But apparently the canadien hockey federation ask the hockey announcer in Pyeongchang, himself a French-Canadian which is kind of weird but whatever, to intentionally mispronounce the names of French-Canadians players names to make them sound like english names. I hope they lose to freaking Germany

Well there's a whole conversation to have about canadian federalism and french-english relation here. But it's probably not the place, so lets just say they tought the guy should say their names the way they would say them.

Really really bad performance in the later half of this game They probably deserved the lost, but saying the goalie carried them to the final is a bit much, I mean they won the semi 5-0, with like 15 shot allowed

Had USA lost on February 24 and USSR won on February 24th the USSR would've taken the gold in 1980.

I stole that from the ESPN stats & info twitter and there was some confusion and corrections in the comments there as well. Looking at that final group (America, SU, Finland, Sweden), I see what you're saying, and where I went wrong with the dates.

the "miracle on ice" story is usually told in a way that leaves the impression USA won the gold over USSR during their game against each other. details often get in the way of good drama
