When you win when you cheese do you think: "I outskilled and outplayed my opponent?" Why does cheese exist in some RTS games? If cheese was removed from SC2 would you miss it? I think Serral illustrated perfectly that he outskilled and outplayed Has. I hope Has can be become a more complete player and not rely on the BS design of P (I main P btw) and sc2 that allows lame, lazy, cheap ways to win.

Invent cheese strategy is wise, but copy is not.

But I still think macro need intelligence more. Art like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That said: SC2 is not designed to be a sandbox game that allows all styles to be viable, it is intentional that some styles are viable as winning strategies and some are not. Blizzard has the authority to choose what is viable and what is not, see those destructible debris at the bottom of the ramp, they are there for a reason, Bilzzard chose to not allow a cheese strategy to be viable. More decisions like this are needed IMO.

But I still think macro need intelligence more. I think it takes a lot more work to come up and get good at a cheesing. Serral essentially knew what Has was going to do, and there were some really close games. So to still have success when your opponent knows what you're going to do is incredibly impressive. It is like kickboxing with someone who has practiced a certain kick 100,000 times, and is known to throw said kick better than anyone in the world. It may not matter who you practice against before the match, no one will be as good your opponent, and he can find a way to sneak that kick in. To cheese in Starcraft, you need to gain some kind of informational advantage over your opponents, which is really difficult at the top. Then you have to refine a build order to ensure it exploits something. Then you use it until the meta makes it unusable and you have to invent another. It is a lot of work.

I don't believe it is possible to design a "traditional" RTS game in the vein of SC or AoE or C&C where the aim is to destroy your opponent, where "cheese" or rush strategies are not viable. If you did, that would mean either very weak aggressive options or very strong defender's advantage, to the point where every match would be a multihour turtlefest. The only way to do it in a game where defensive options vastly outperform aggressive ones would be a non-traditional win condition, like artifact/relic victory in AoE, or king of the hill ruleset, etc. Not the game we're used to that's about crushing the enemy's army and then their base to secure a victory.

i know it's not very "refined," but these kind of rapid-fire, short cuts is EXACTLY what I want from a highlight package.

Well, if you watched the quarterfinals, you'd know Has beat Nerchio WITHOUT A SINGLE cannon rush. To me, Has eliminating both Nerchio and Showtime was awesome, since when those two meet each other it's usually an hour-long max-supply tug-of-war mind-numbing 'great mechanics' snoozefest. Thanks to Has it was actually exciting. I hope to see more of him stomping nerds
