a decent rule of thumb on ladder is that if you don't know what terran is opening then assume it's the worst thing. assume cyclones, assume hellions at the same time (wall your natural or at least be generally ready to defend a runby), then assume it could be cloak banshee too. generally this means defensive robo play into some warp prism counter-harass, although i understand phoenix is strong as well
GSL super tournament was full of high level proxy PvT, so check out clips of those series for ideas from pros on how to approach the proxy nightmare

Thank you much. Watched super tournament, as did apparently my terran ladder opponents because I played probably 6/10 PvTs with proxies the same day haha. Just didn't know if there had been any identified gas counts, etc.
Ive switched to SG opener in PvT and its been helpful. Thanks for the tips!

this question probably doesn't fit perfectly in this thread, however, i can't find another place to put it.
any clues as to whether or not GSL 2019 is happening ?

Not really strategy but I think this is where I should ask.
If I buy for example this year warchest for terrans, will I have access to 2018 WCS players portraits?

Been playing a bit recently at around 5.2k mmr - it's really frustrating that people execute poorly-thought-out builds poorly - at what mmr will my opponents be decent?
I'm trying to figure out whether I want to play or not

Are you referrring to yourself or to others? If it's others, then why aren't you winning more and reaching a point where you are on equal footing with others?
If it's yoiurself, then I can actually address your question.
The higher you go, the more your opponent can really capitalize on your mistakes. This means that you almost can never do THE build you wanted to do. You are always being interrupted in small ways by the build the other player wanted to do. This causes delays, flaws, etc.

What happened to Gateway upgrades in PvZ ? I just watched some of the Stats V Serral games and it felt so strange. Stats kept going stargate robo council archives 3 bases in some variations before he ever laid down a forge. Back when i was playing Upgrades were EVERYTHING and now they seem to be completely irrelevant.

Attack upgrades are still relevant in PvZ. The reason it's not the first thing invested into is that it's not a priority. The priority is to get your tech going first, as stargate is the safest way to secure a third at a reasonable time and get crucial scouting info. Second priority is to archon drop to apply pressure and find out if you need to rush storm for hydras or a second robo for roaches. Once that's taken care of, you can get dem juicy attack upgrades.

Are there any in game chat channels or discord channels where I can find people willing to practice? I'm having trouble finding people to practice specific matchups with.

Are protoss shield upgrades useful in any way? What is their actual effect? I've only played about 150 games as protoss but I've never researched shield upgrades.

Not only useful, they're kinda required if you're going to play against better opponents. They work the same way as any armor upgrade, and is just as important. Archons especially is just going to melt without them.

They work like armor upgrades but they affect the shield portion of unit HP instead.
The main reasons that come to mind for you to upgrade them instead of armor would be:
+ Show Spoiler +1; Shield upgrades affect the shields on buildings as well which can add crucial EHP especially against units with weak/fast attacks like marines and zerglings. This includes cannons and shield batteries for your defensive engagements and any building that you wouldn't want to lose to a runby or a drop.
2; Shields regenerate over time and can be healed which is more beneficial for units like blink stalkers and archons which will have opportunity to regenerate their shields and when using shield batteries to restore shields.
3; If you were using a mixed unit comp - there's no such thing as ground shields and air shields, there is only one shield upgrade which affects everything
Armor has advantages as well:
+ Show Spoiler +Shields don't give a base damage reduction but stuff often has 1 base armor which adds to the damage reduction and makes an armor upgrade lead of 1 or 2 upgrades more relatively impactful - reducing damage from 3 to 2 is more important than reducing it from 4 to 3.
Some key units like zealots have much more HP than shields so armor upgrades affect twice as much of their total health pool.
EMP can knock out shields on whole chunks of your army which would leave a player with high shield upgrades and no/low armor upgrades defenseless. This is a pretty bad situation in general but you're extra screwed if you went for like +3 attack, +0 def, +3 shields.
Armor upgrades are 1.5x cheaper than Shield upgrades.

Averaging around 150apm. Is this the reason my game has plateaued in platinum league?

No, although increasing your effective APM (having the right actions where and when you need them) is one avenue for improvement
building more workers in the early-midgame is an easy bet as well

Are there only Terrans right now? 5 out of 5 placements were vs Terran o.O
Finally played some 1v1 again (last time was probably 2 years ago)
