Afreeca has done a ton in the past year to improve their global performance. They almost need to re-reach out to the international scene. Regarding commercial viability, you can dual stream using iostream with very little performance hit. Therefore you stream on all platforms. So you dont have to turn off twitch to use Afreeca, there are free and very easy options for doing both. The reps always tell me if global viewers would send in feedback comments it would put pressure on the developers to improve global Afreeca.
Very good to know. Thanks for the post!

Finally, I have a long history with AfreecaTV and the most important thing to them is feedback. The reps always tell me if global viewers would send in feedback comments it would put pressure on the developers to improve global Afreeca. Twitch Partners do have an exclusivity agreement, and more people around the globe have (bigger) issues streaming and/or watching Afreeca compared to Twitch. On top of that, people who don't regularly watch Afreeca are not very keen on using Afreeca for many reasons, one of them being its usability + Show Spoiler +rudimentary things like clicking a link and having a new tab/window open which sites just don't do except for Afreeca, more complex things like site navigation being so poor that even I have to put in a lot of effort to avoid getting lost or find specific things , another big one is schedule/timezones of people around the world compared to streams on Afreeca. Broadcasters in the west do need to try harder to live off or even slightly supplement themselves from Afreeca streams compared to Twitch, and, even if they try hard to make it work, there are still things that are out of their control.
As much as I like what Afreeca does for StarCraft, and as much as I wish Twitch/Amazon would create and promote events for more esports besides the most popular ones, it is what it is. Unless Afreeca changes a lot this year, I don't see the majority of the StarCraft players and broadcasters and viewerbases moving to Afreeca. Even if Afreeca does do a lot more this year, they would still need to have a lot of players/broadcasters end their Twitch partnerships and start regularly streaming on the platform, which probably wouldn't happen unless Twitch does something bad for the SC2 broadcasters and Afreeca does something like give SC2 broadcasters a decent sponsorship or suddenly starts making really, really inticing deals for broadcasters moving there from other platforms...
I guess to put into just a few words, Twitch has a ton of "global discoverability" (is that a term?) for StarCraft and, well, everything on the site that Afreeca just doesn't have now and isn't likely to have any time soon unless a ton goes poorly for Twitch and a much greater ton goes well for Afreeca. Afreeca still offers quite a lot of risk where Twitch offers a lot of safety.

I am streaming (on the rarest of occasions) via the twitch center/server in Prague. I doubt Afreeca has a server there. But still - good to know they made some changes/upgrades. I would try it if I were into streaming

It's 2:00 PM though. Does that qualify as "morning" for Afreeca?
Maybe they just pushed the schedule back this year.
