Jobs
  AcrossFiveJulys, Aug 23 2008

Something that happened today reminded me of the first two jobs I worked at, thought I'd share:

My first job was working at Subway as a "sandwich artist." Up to that point, I'd always wanted to work at Subway because I loved their sandwiches (they used to be better 10 years ago). It was Summer between my Junior and Senior year of high school, and I felt that I should get a job. I strolled into Subway and told the manager I'd like to work there, and she basically shrugged her shoulders and said "sure!" I started the next day, worked about 12 hours a week, then the store closed a month later and everyone got laid off. I was like "cool, I don't have to quit when school starts!"

During Senior year of high school, I again was in need of a job. A buddy of mine hooked me up with a job at Togos, another sandwich shop, which he warned was a terrible job and the manager was a retard (my friend had been working there for half a year). He was right... the job did suck. About four months later, we were all told that the store would be closing (LOL AGAIN) within a month. I didn't care very much, since I'd be leaving for college soon. I got sick one day on the job and had to go home and subsequently take off a week of work. The day before I was going to come back, the manager called me and said I didn't need to come in to work the next day because I was fired for "not being good with customers" which was bullshit. I was like wtf...

When I went back a week later to return my uniform and grab my last check, the manager asked if I'd be able to come back and work for the last couple weeks the store was open. I told my dad and he convinced me to go back to earn a little more cash before I go away to college. So I spent an awkward two weeks working at that dump. Still makes me laugh.

I have a confession!
  AcrossFiveJulys, Jul 06 2008

After reading the PURGE 2008 thread and meeting a TL staff in person, I decided that I should let you all in on my history here at TL.

Most of you guys probably don't know me, even though I've been lurking/posting on TL for four years or so. I love this site and everything about it. The SC coverage, the replays, the TLPD, and all of the people here. But, I've been banned... three times.

Once was four years ago where I made a topic that was intended to be funny, but turned out to be extremely stupid and only funny to me and the other person involved. An admin banned me for the topic (rekrul I think? ), but I got unbanned by an admin I knew through a slight hookup. Then another admin banned me again for the same thing and that was it for that account! I won't reveal the thread or my account name, because I don't want to embarass the guy who was involved (an active member here still).

At this point I thought TL was a bunch of assholes. Then a couple months later I made a new account, ArseniC-2. This one is painful to post because what ensued is pretty embarassing to look back on.

I bet everyone remembers Fakesteve's "Tonight I will write or MsPaint anything you want" thread. Great thread and one of the best in TL's archives, imo. Yep, I was the newb trolling the thread who got banned as a result. Here's a summary of what happened.

+ Show Spoiler +

So basically I got tossed around that thread like a box of oreos and ended up getting banned as a result. Oh well, it was funny I guess.

A little bit later (3 years or ago or so), I made this account: AcrossFiveJulys, which is a twist on a band I was listening to at that time, Across Five Aprils. I learned that you have to show a little respect to get respect here at TL. I've had some awesome posts on this account, some that make me look like an idiot, and some that should be purged from the TL database. But I come out of the dark to you all and hope my previous actions can be forgiven. At least I wasn't pretending to be a hot gamer chick for 3 years.

My name is Rob, pleased to meet you.

Songs That Pump Me Up
  AcrossFiveJulys, Jun 29 2008

Cascade by Hyper. Makes me want to program or do something else that's engineering or science related!

Black Metal cover of Iron Maiden's classic Hallowed be thy name, by Cradle of Filth. Makes me want to run around the room. And I follow along with the screaming.
