Great idea, and if anyone deserves it it's the admins, but with how a lot of people just got an 'invite a friend' key and how many admins already had keys, i doubt any of them will be left wanting
edit: according to other posts however i may be wrong :O.

blizz realeased a bunch of keys to people that already have the beta with the intent for them to "invite-a-friend" so essentially... they gave a shitload of keys to people already in the beta hoping they would give them to friends.
So I am going to give mine to a deservant TL.net admin, they do a lot of work to keep the site running properly and I dont need 2 keys.. and I dont need $150 so badly that I cant help out the community with it instread
Have a heart and give it to that guy who got like 5th in the cake contest and hasn't got his key yet. I forget his name but every post I see of his is pretty sad, he's like But.... but... I baked a cake for you guys!!!
Yeah. When's the last time Chill baked a starcraft cake.

Which makes no fucking sense, why not give them to people who don't have them, who check their email every hour of every day. Why not give them to the people that kneel over their beds every night in prayer that tomorrow, they may get that fateful email from a blizzard address. I think I'm just going to resign myself to the fact that I will have to wait for the release...

Because if a shitload of work wasnt put into this site everyday we all wouldn't be here. They commentate games and set up streams and get rid of the trolls and make cool events for us to watch like TSL, and we dont pay a penny to them for any of this.
So for once, One of them is going to get something in return.

You don't get it? All Broodwar sites get say 5-12 keys from Blizzard. Now with the "Invite a friend wave" the number doubles. TL.net can provide keys to their stuff members on their own.
Do you also donate money to Burger King when you had a delicious burger o_O

No where in his post does it imply that he is upset that he doesn't have a beta key. He is commentating on your inability to understand the fact that most TL admins probably either have a Beta key or have a good reason for not having one. But again, I just have to say that I am speculating and using common sense. You should probably read the post twice before clicking the reply button lol

i dont care who you give it to, and i think a star member is a great idea.
i just want to clear up any misconceptions that blizzard took care of all the staff. tl got the same number of keys as a fansite that is less than a year old, and we got some for contests that we gave away to members.
the majority of staff in the beta got theirs by buying a blizzcon ticket like everyone else. to the guy making the burger king analogy, if tl charged you for something your example might work, but tl is more like a guy throwing a free bbq for everyone on the block. you might kick in to help cover the ribs.

Well pachi said both sonuvbob and zxk3 didnt have one and that zxk3 really wanted one. So its up to them, if they wana share it thats up to them or if they want to otherwise I'm going to think of a fun little contest for them to compete for it. Something silly and quick no idea what it is yet, depends on them.

This is a really awesome idea. I support that all staff/star should get a key before I do. Of course, making them do silly things is win-win. =) This blog needs bumping because many people are under the misconception that all TL.net staff and contributors have keys, whereas they actually gave a few out for contests instead of hoarding it for themself. (correct me if i am wrong on this point).

We were not allowed to hoard them for ourselves. I guess we could have rigged it that way but our instructions were to give them away.
It is funny that we got the same number of keys as scsuperfriends.com, but in general our staff have them via blizzcon or other connections. Especially now that the friend invites are out things should be ok. I like the ideas of giving to star members because they often do behind the scene stuff like streaming etc.

But whoever gets it, it is a generous thing. So
I changed the format of the key distribution actually BECAUSE I found out that l10f is the translator of hyungjun becomes a progamer.. I cant get enough of that show, and because of his efforts on it. All the star members can thank l10f for his translations for getting them entry to the contest,

Heya, I also got this invite-a-friend mail from Blizzard, so if there's any european admin or star member still missing SC2 beta, shoot me a pm.
I don't really have any RL friends that actually deserve the beta key or that doesn't already have it so i figured i'd give it someone who'd actually use it well.

In case it matters, just want to throw out there that SonuvBob totally deserves a beta key. He's a super contributor even though you don't see most of the stuff he does. Oh, and his bans are hilarious.

Hey, if this ends in l10f getting a key, make sure you wait til he translated all episodes of "hyungjoon becomes a progamer" before you give him the key. Otherwise we wont see another episode in the next 1-2 month

I think it is impossible to move threads from blogs to other parts of the forum for some reason.
Not to mention he could just make a new thread with the actual contest information after using his blog as the brainstorming thread. However, I think it's silly for him to make a contest for staff members to enter for just giving his key away.

If you get the currently registered users to "ok" this Im fine with it, But ideally, people without keys play for themselves. if the other dont have an issue with it I dont mind. Send some pms, its up to them.
I don't have a problem with it. I would like for Kentor to play for himself, but it doesn't bother me all that much. As long as you're playing for him and not yourself, I guess it's fine with me.
Well seeing as sonuvbob has declined participation in this due to his retirement as a bw player. I'll allow Tops entry for kentor. Since sonuvbob was one of the people with a reserved spot I am giving him the option to refer anyone he thinks deservant of a spot based on tl.net contribution to take his place. So T.O.P I'll add you to the bracket.
I don't think playing SC is the best. It is simple that the highest ranked player will probably win, and it is unlikely to have two people who are so closely ranked that it will be a good and entertaining match. UMS is the way to go!
On March 19 2010 12:32 randomKo_Orean wrote: can i play?
You really dont have a key?? If you don't I would say the hello-goodbye tournament is more than enough contribution to TL to get you a spot in this tourney.

I thought so too, especially since apparently more ppl are contributing their keys. What I propose is a dinosaur comics format. (www.qwantz.com/ ) where they fill in the blanks and we vote on them. (I was going to go with made-up Hyungjoon subtitles by the contestants, but that may be too much work.)
OK! So do to popular demand to doing something other than playing starcraft to win the beta key I have come up with an idea!
There will be no more contest changes. This is the final competition, I will update the OP right after this post!
You will play online pinball to win the key, highest score... gets it You will play pinball using this site: http://www.onlinepinball.net/htm/games/themepark.htm Rules will be listed in the OP, I will be sending you all PM's to confirm you understand.
I just got an email to invite one of my friends to the SCII beta... Would like to give it to a mod/huge contributor to tl.net Just send me a PM and ill redirect the email. Ill check my inbox tomorrow or so!
EDIT: Ill just make a blog about it, wanted to write some other stuff to

Why dont you do me a favor and wait until after the competition and then just give it to whoever gets second place instead of just getting 1 person to not play?
haha this is great! pinball deathmatch! remember you guys have until midnight tomorrow to get your highest score. I will print screen of the highscores list and post it into the op and congratulate the winner!

Haha, same. I think if you hit the little things on the sides, they might activate point multipliers, but I'm not sure yet. The only thing I'm 100% sure about is that if you hit it into the little hole in the upper right, you get a new ball.
I quit shortly after I couldn't get anywhere near my score on the first try.
I've more or less given up. After breaking 100000 on my second game, I couldn't break like 50k in the rest of my games. Played like 5 more times afterwards and didn't quite get the mechanics of the game other than "Pray that luck is on your side and hit those flippers"

I lol'd so hard after reading this, you know I played for like a few hours last night and I couldn't break 40K... I have no clue how some of you got 90k+ thats ridiculous. Well whatever the situation you guys still have until 9 hours to get a better score. If the winner is online when midnight hits I'll give the winner the key tonight.

Well I'm done with it, wasn't shooting for a key anyway. I get the feeling the game's not finished and all the 2x3x4x and flashy arrows are just for show, which makes it pretty boring. =/

The ice cream thing also resets all the targets and safety net thingies that keep the ball from going down the far right/left sides. If you hit all 3 orange targets or both blue ones on the right it makes a sound, but doesn't seem to do much else (edit: orange ones give you points when you get all 3). Beyond that.. no idea.
Sometimes the clown thing gives me points, sometimes it doesn't. Seems like the best source of points is the 200s at the very top. =/
edit: rofl, just shot the ball up the top left ramp and it just went straight through the wall instead of around the curve
edit2: I "tied" Roffles using halfassed wizardry. :p Was just curious if the hash was based purely on the score; seems it is!
