I'm writing this because I believe that I do owe everyone in the community some sort of an apology. I would like to apologize for the following things.
1) Apology regarding my poor choice of words in my description of Brood War 2) Apology to everyone in the community for creating such a drama 3) Apology to everyone who had ever supported me for whatever reason 4) Apology because I am going to be selfish.
First, let me apologize to the e-Sports community as a whole. I did not intend to imply that such games did not meet the ideal that is e-Sports, that is, a pure form of competitive gaming made up of passion and hard work of thousands of gamers, staff, and the community. I apologize for those remarks, and frankly, I wish I had chosen my words quite a bit better, and as some people have pointed it out, I should have used "spectator sport" as a replacement. I do apologize for my terrible misuse of the word, and the confusion it has caused and causing many of you to respond to such nonsense. I specifically would like to apologize to djwheat and Slasher specifically.
One thing I'd like to clear up is that I didn't write the original reddit post to try and piss anyone off. I know that there exists a comment on IRC from the TL Staff Channel that suggests otherwise but if the person had read the comments that came afterwards they'd have realized I made the comment simply because of what had happened (IE: My poor choice of words created a lot of backlash) not because I stirred something up on purpose. That's one thing that I really want to clear that specifically.
Secondly, I would like to apologize to the community for creating such a drama. This is something that I can't really say "I did not intend to do", because frankly when I get that emotional I have no idea what I'm trying to accomplish nor what I even want. It's a flaw that I always had, something that I have struggled in the past, not just within this community, but in others too. In addition I would like to specifically apologize to Hot_Bid and Kennigit who put up with quite a bit of my shit over the time I've been at TeamLiquid. They're pretty amazing people. I'd also like to apologize to Lee and Adam from MLG for putting up with my bullshit in the nicest way possible. You guys are really awesome, and you guys honestly deserve someone better.
Thirdly, I'd like to apologize to anyone who ever supported me. I want to say thank you, but at this point, I feel bad enough that I don't think I can even say that.
I've been meaning to leave the community for a long time now. I've talked with a few people prior to MLG Orlando and they knew that MLG Orlando would be my last event. I'm sure this had affected quite a bit of how I did during the event, so I'd also like to specifically apologize to the MLG staff in addition.
There are two reasons why I had decided to stop. One is that, throughout all of these events, I've seen al ot of negative things come out of me and slowly overtaken me. I remember someone tweeted me saying that I was turning a bit more negative about a month and a half ago. I started to get quite whiny and I'm sorry that everyone had to put up with that. There are quite a number of other bad traits that I've noticed out of myself during the events, and I personally felt as if that I needed to improve quite a bit as a person before I could ever consider doing something like this again. I'm not the best person in the world. I've always been quite negative, and I'm sure everyone noticed that I'm definitely not confident in myself. Hot_Bid jokingly calls a lot of the things I say "humble brags" but that's something I never noticed until he repeatedly called me out on it. Same with all of these things you guys labelled as "attention seeking behavior" -- I'm finally willing to admit that you guys are probably right regarding that and I just simply do not realize it. In the end, I'm not a mentally healthy enough person to handle things like this in the long run, and I recognized that. This is why I responded in the the way I had done, I think I was just looking for an exit at this point.
I think this is why I let all the negative backlash get to me. At least I believe that I've done quite a bit of service to the community, and so when people started attacking me and my contributions even as a simple backlash to my poorly written article, I got quite frustrated.
While it was demotivating, I was wrong to be demotivated. After all, the only reason I joined the scene was because I believe there was a lot of content out there that I thought the foreign community could enjoy. I was being quite petty, because I was ignoring all the people who did appreciate what I did and essentially catering to the vocal minority.
And so, I apologize.
And to everyone who sent me PMs on TeamLiquid, or left really awesome advice on my emo-drama-queen blog -- thank you very much. I really appreciated your kind words and the wise advice many of you guys have given. I especially want to thank Tyler for his posts in the thread.
Lastly, I'd like to apologize, because I'm going to be very selfish. I haven't explained to you my second reason, and that reason is that I had decided I was going to concentrate more on what I currently do in academia. There's an asian idiom that goes something like "You can't chase after two rabbits at once". The point is that e-Sports is something that is extremely distracting, at least at the level that I have took it in. There is no way I can handle both at once and make a real difference in either. Sadly, while there are a lot of things I'd like to do in e-Sports, there's a lot more I'd like to accomplish in terms of academic research (surely, of course, quite a bit of my research will be e-Sports related).
I'm also being selfish because I'd like to concentrate on myself for the first time in my life. You know those people who always lack the self confidence to ever properly take care of themselves? I'm one of those people. I've always been attracted to online communities and finding ways to help out these communities, but given my personality flaws, it's something that I know that it is not sustainable. I want to take the time to concentrate on myself and improving myself so that if I ever do come back to a group setting, I'd be able to contribute without being a pain in the ass (just ask Hot_Bid).
Once again, I'm sorry. I want to thank every single one of you, even those who may have disapproved of me. Given the amount of bullshit this has caused, I'll make sure to have learned something from it so that it wasn't a complete waste of your time.
Thank you.
PS: A major apology to the banlings. Holy crap, those are a lot of reports D:
Nothing to forgive in my opinion. Go forth and create, I'll miss you at MLGs, but I'll miss your various translations of random shit more, someone has to fill that role. Thanks man <3
Glad you took a second look at the situation and responded very well to some of the communities reactions. Still hate to see a valuable member of the community go though =(
Awesome of you to apologize/accept responsibility/end on a good note. Best of luck to you man. As I said previously I have always enjoyed the translations and content you have provided to the Starcraft community. You will be missed by many and I am sure we will be very happy should you decide to return <3
I'll quote Homer S. here: "The war is over and the future won. The past never had a chance, man." Good luck with chasing the academic rabbit, I'll cheer for you <3
Cool that we can finally put all this drama shit behind us- Milkis, you are forgiven (not that I personally think there's anything to forgive) and I hope both you and us as a community learned something from this. GLGL in life/whatever that other pursuit is, we'll miss you.
Sad to see the standard internet blow things out of proportion and overreact to everything caused such a stress on you. Its people like you that make this community great so good luck on everything you do and I wish you the best.
Once there was a BW fan named Milkis who never did anything exciting or had any adventures whatsoever. Then one day, he found the ring of power (internet fame). At first he resisted its temptations, but then he found many ways to wield it, he could influence opinions, go to MLGs for free as a translator, meet progamers, and have people follow him on twitter and tumblr. But the other hobbits were beginning to notice he was acting strangely, he was stating his opinions as if they were facts, and not caring who got in his way.
Milkis decided he needed a holiday. A very long holiday. And he didn't expect he should return.
Milkis stood in front of the hobbits, gave a speech, and told them that this was the end. He was going now. And so he put on the ring and disappeared from the hobbits forever, except for TL, his much-loved nephew. He apologized to TL for being very selfish, and hopes that TL will visit him at Rivendell one day.
An attention seeker writing an apology after saying he is leaving? WTF this is the same crap that high school girls do... they delete their myspace or facebook then remake it a day later... grow up. Just leave, dont come back or look back move on. Also you created no drama because no one cared.

Would of preferred if you didnt do this writeup, just causing even more drama. We all knew you were going to be sorry and regret how you acted or what you said.
Good luck in whatever you choose to pursue, a drama i would happy to receive is your comeback. Hopefully it comes at the right time for us, and you.

I think milkis think that the community at least deserve to hear out what actually happened
Love you Milkis <3 (That day you wrote that goodbye blog I went and got some Milkis for the first time because I thought this was the only Milkis I'd ever get again )
That's what I call manning up. You did the first step, and you know you've got a long way to go; but the journey began with that step. May your choices vindicate you in the end.

Good luck, mate. I can only hope to have a better depiction of fan art for you when you choose to return (if you remember than crappy piece anyway >-<'' ).
no. goddamit. someone does something fucking stupid after being a douchebag for a long time and writes an apology that takes 5 minutes and means nothing. hes still a douchebag. dont be nice to him.
Yo Milkis, I stayed out of the other thread but I'm coming here to say that although you've shown bouts of extreme immaturity, the fact that you can come out like this and candidly admit to your own personality flaws publicly shows me that you're actually much more mature than I gave you credit for.
There's no shame in taking some time and space to improve yourself. Be honest with yourself, know your faults, listen to the criticisms of the ones you hold close, ignore the haters, and move forward positively. The things you've done for this community were not for naught nor will they be forgotten. Much thanks for everything and I sincerely wish you the best of luck.
Good luck with whatever you do man. I hope you somewhat stay with the community or at least come back after a while. I really do love reading your tweets and translations. Without you I feel the Koreans are so very far away

Takes a lot of testicular fortitude to do what you just did. As much as I disagree with how you originally handled the situation, there's no saying that you're a bad person or that you don't deserve forgiveness. You did what very few people here could honestly say they'd do in your position.
So good job, amigo. Keep fighting the good fight. Next time, though? Haters gonna hate. Don't let it bring you down, because in the end, we're (almost) all just faceless usernames and our opinions are as dust in the wind.
Yup. It takes a lot of guts to spill your own to the whole world and to admit your missteps even though you weren't completely wrong and others were to blame as well. A very respectable way to go, I hope you find your path and succeed wherever you go.
Fixing yourself before fixing the other things in your life is always a good choice. I respect this decision of yours, Milkis. Your translations have inspired me to work on being a translator myself.
Suppose this works out best for everyone if the reports of how you've been at recent events are to be believed; hope you got something out of your time in Esports. Thanks for the nice things you did and fuck you for the bad ^_^
I think all of TL might be bipolar with the crazy flips in attitude overnight.

Don't you think it's a little presumptuous to make statements like that? I mean, maybe you know Milkis incredibly well or something, but I'm going to take his apology at face value because I believe he deserves that. You sound like you know he doesn't mean it, and I'm curious as to how you could know that.
As I have posted in the other thread, I had a very negative impression of Milkis after seeing him in MLG Orlando and it got even worse after seeing his reactions in the reddit + goodbye incident. I always thought he had a bad attitude and was a bit too immature.
When I first saw this blog, I thought "here we go again, more attention whoring." I was looking forward to ripping apart his post and have it further cementing my distaste for him. However, to my surprise this apology letter changed my perception completely. The entire letter seemed heart felt and he was able to really take responsibility for what he has done. To publicly admit your faults and flaws like this is not an easy task and you proved that you have really manned up to your problems.
You have just converted me to a fan and I sincerely wish you all the best in the future.

Idra was an exploited low-tier progamer under Korean management for two years, I wouldn't particularly blame him if he was extremely cynical about the things people say and took nothing at face value.
Uhh... I don't understand why you should be the one apologizing. Just because you stated your opinion and backed it up with your your own rationale doesn't mean you are wrong, intellectually or morally. The opposition that djWheat and Slasher took was one of a passionate regard for the game, and the only thing I think you did wrong was take their position personally. You're an awesome translator.

This is a very graceful follow up post. When I read the last one, I was worried that you would no longer take joy within any part of the community. This at least gives me hope that you can still cheer from behind a computer monitor at the sight of a game 7 in the GSL finals... if it ever happens again. :D

You don't seem to have a point here. You're using alleged (and very spotty) prior actions to show conformity therewith in order to convince people... what? Your implied point seems to be that people shouldn't accept his apology.
This is the kind of flame I don't expect from professionals.

Didn't say I forgave him. What he did was hypocritical and inexcusable. Apologizing won't change the things that were said.
I won't hold a grudge either. I wish him the best in school, but he gets no sympathy from me for his actions.

I just remembered that Milkis was one of the few people who made a bona fide attempt to answer a stats question I posed - wow, months ago now. So I totally understand that whole SC2-is-distracting thing. Don't worry, the analysis is coming...just after...a few...more...games...
It sounds like you're off to graduate school. Or pursuing a career in research? It means you won't have time to do all this extra work, but you can still hang out and play SC2 with us. ;-)
tbh the reddit post wasnt very bad and id say the ones overreacting were those that responded negatively to it. while everyones entitled to their opinion i guess the minority is those that can politely point out that they disagree while respecting your personal opinion. anyway i hope you do at least stick around TL and the e-sport community at least every once in a while good luck with chasing that rabbit

Fuck the haters, you shouldn't have to apologize for shit. You spoke the truth and people get mad cause they can't handle the truth? Start denigrating all your work cause people disagree? Eff that, the sc2 community doesn't deserve you. Go off and do your own thing cause that's what matters first.

That's EGIdrA. He is in a position to have met Milkis personally many times and I'm sure his opinion is based on knowing what he's talking about.
I know who IdrA is. Regardless of who he is, his comment was just insulting.
Ah, I see. While I agree, he probably doesn't care.
I'm fully aware of that as well. But I'm stating my opinion just like he's stating his

Smart move to come back to amend the bridges he burnt. Good move on being honest on where you fucked up instead of making excuses, manning up where it counts. Hopefully you can come back later when your perspective have gotten wider and the Korea is the best mentality out.
Also loling at Idra's comment and people finding a video where he apologized.

Don't you think it's a little presumptuous to make statements like that? I mean, maybe you know Milkis incredibly well or something, but I'm going to take his apology at face value because I believe he deserves that. You sound like you know he doesn't mean it, and I'm curious as to how you could know that.
Idra was an exploited low-tier progamer under Korean management for two years, I wouldn't particularly blame him if he was extremely cynical about the things people say and took nothing at face value.

My biggest problem is that you still think your opinion about Broodwar is valid. You're still an elitist douche about it, and being able to ADMIT to being elitist doesn't make it any better.
When you apologize only for your "choice of words" even though those words perfectly conveyed how you actually feel, you're just being patronizing.
This feels very much like "too little, too late" and presents itself as very insincere. :\ Not gonna flame, I just really feel like this was a sort of attempt to save face and gain pity from the community.
Although i was disappointed in your previous post, i'm glad it has lead to some positive growth, could be an important thing for you that stays for the rest of your life. Here's hoping that it will . Good luck in your future, and your pursuit for happiness.

Your only post is hate directed towards someone who spent hours of his time doing free translations for you?
I don't care even if he wrote he approves of stealing candy from children, he contributed more to this scene than you or I ever will. Someone writes something, other people disagree, discussion ensues, afterwards just make up your own mind on where you stand.
I really don't know why people are so pissed about his opinion.
Everyone makes mistakes. We're humans, we're not perfect or robots. Our emotions sometimes takes the best out of us. We can be having the life of our time or feel like total shit, as if we were in an abyss of depression. The emotional rage can sometimes shallow us whole and take over us. We've all at one point been enraged, say or do something that hurts the ones we love or care for. I'm glad that you saw through the drama and came forth with a composed conclusion, despite how much it hurts to hear that you will have to leave. I'm also sorry that there are people who dislike/hate you... there will always be someone who wants to drag you down.
I would like to thank you for your contribution to the community. I always loved the insight you had at MLG and the many translations you've done for us. I normally don't write long posts on Team Liquid because I figure its pointless to post when there's so many more active posters and I can't keep track whether someone responded to me or not, but since you will be leaving and I admire your work I will make this post a little longer than I usually post (which honestly, its like less than a paragraph most of the time or one liners).
Whatever. My pointless rant is over. Now go chase the rabbit you wanted to chase.
I never thought your original statement required the shitstorm it got, and I don't think you should be redeemed such as is happening right now. It's blown waaay out of proportion, and frankly, apologizing like this is, in my eyes, only even more attention seeking. If truly you cared, you'd have had the brains not to post the original "I'm leaving", and the fact that you post an "apology" after such a short time, well ... I'm sorry Milkis, but I don't feel like I can trust you anymore. Throughout the past days you have shown so many different sides of yourself, and YES, that does happen, but we're all human, and you're not a "special case" or anything. As such I'm gonna treat you like I would every other person.
Milkis, I'm sad you're gonna be gone. But given your recent behavior, I feel it's clearly for the best. Sadly I'm more happy with you not being a part of this community right now (sorry for sounding so douchy). Sure, MAYBE if you resolve your problems you'll come back, but I honestly don't hope so. You had a great chance, and you really managed to screw it up. I honestly don't think it'll go better "next time". So both for you and for "E-Sports", I hope you stay gone, and I wish you a happy life.

Milkis, you're a fucking legend to us. Get your shit in order in your own life and come back to us when you feel right, and not a minute before. There'll always be haters, but for every one of them, there will be another who will appreciate your effort!
We met in Columbus face to face and I was happy to see a guy making a name for himself as a first rate translator with some influence in the scene. Sorry to see you go. Hope that things work out.

someones contribution to the community shouldn't mean you have to blindly like his opinions though. People disagree'd with his opinions, he can argue back all he wants. I feel like his ego is just really big and he was absolutely shocked when a lot of people flamed him that he emo quit the community. Not trying to flame because i still really appreciate his translations, but quitting because of all this AND handling it like such an attention whore speaks much more to me about his character than all of his contributions.

Anyway, my opinion on milkis has changed 0% since the last thread. whatever. this will all blow over in a week or so.
you will find haters nomatter what you do in life they are everywhere not just in online communitys... i think u expect to much from these dumb people and dont ennjoy what you get from the fans who learned to love your input u do for the community. dont be such a whiner. pls dont stop!
I think that last blog exploded in views and general interest faster than any other blog for a long while, even without getting spotlighted.
Good job! You did... uh, something at least. Maybe we will get John at more MLG's now? Nah, he would be swarmed by fangirls (and boys) in heat asking him to autograph all sorts of inappropriate things.
Hey Milkis best of luck on chasing those rabbits o.O. Don't go to far down the rabbit hole and thanks for all the translations for SC2 and especially BW.
I know you did a lot of translations which is awesome. Although I never pay much attention to SC2, I can definitely appreciate the amount of effort it must of taken to go to all those events while going through school. This is coming from a guy who goes from 60+posts a week to 3 posts while school is in session.

Regardless of all the shitstorm you created, you helped massively on bridging the gap between foreign fans and Korean pro/netizens.
I enjoy reading every post MLG writeups you did (though admittedly the best one was the Columbus blog) as well as all the twitter translations for all the Korean pros.
Good luck in your studies anyway and hope you keep in touch of sc2 (being involved or not).

I still think it's absurd to apologize for something as mild and harmless as what he said, especially after being bullied into it. In this case at least he should've just gone with the Idra approach to "community criticism".

Have i got this right because I somehow missed this:
1: Milkys said that SC/BW is the only "true" E-Sport which is factually wrong ( but you could argue that SC/BW is way more deserving to be an E-Sport than SC2/every other RTS, only morons would try to rip your head off for that )
2: INTERNET RAGES!!!
3: Milkys whines about him being him and quits doing SC related stuff?
4: INTERNET IS CRYING.
Conclusion would be that the Internet is filled with drama seeking retards?

Regarding the reddit article: That thing was more of a history lecture than anything else. Milkis just listed things that happened during BW and went on to say that those things are what makes an esport. But mostly it was just a history lesson. It was only in the very beginning and end of the article that he spoused opinions about BW vs other games. The most drastical thing he wrote in that whole article was "IMO, it [BW] is the only eSport."
It all boils down to labeling, which is nearly futile to have a discussion about. It's better to just agree to disagree and clarify definitions when debating. Despite of what djWheat thinks, Milkis didn't shit on other games. He just said that he wouldnt label them as esports, and he explained why. He didn't take anything away from the games or the players playing them. He didn't take away anything from their hard work or the fans or nothing. In the reddit thread djWheat said that Milkis said "fuck you" to a whole bunch of people, which is simply not true. Denying an activity a certain label is not the same as flipping the bird to the people excercising said activity. It's not even a subjective matter.
zlasher accused Milkis of overdramatizing the whole thing, which is weird becuase the article was very calmy written and did nothing to actively stirr anything up. It was simply his opinion, very calmy and friendly put. If anyone in the reddit thread is stirring up drama its djWheat. Just read his post. (Yes, i know zlasher accused Milkis of drama-ing prior to djWheat's post.)
The other reactions to the reddit article are equally hilarious. Holy shit is the butthurt flowing through this community. Is everyone here twelve years old? Within the first responses to the article people were already talking about completely offtopic stuff, like Milkis' translations and wether or not he's fluent in this or that language. By the way, why didn't you assholes bring that up before Milkis was an easy target? (maybe you did, sorry IF you did, I'm not active in this community). Milkis was also accused of inserting biased commentary in his translations and that he therefore didn't do his job. Fair enough, but, as milkis stated in his "Good Bye" thread (more on this later), he never wanted to do it. He did it only becuase it was excpected from him.
Regarding the Good Bye thread: So, Milkis opens the thread by apologizing for his wording of his opinion(s) in the reddit article... Wow, you guys must have been hard on him, because that was one of he most carefully, friendly stating of opinions I've ever read. He then explains the reasons why he's leaving this community, which are 1) people were attacking him personally for his opinions on what makes an esport. 2) That suddenly everything he's done for this community has sucked, 3) it's exhausting work to translate and do what he did, 4) reasons 1,2 and 3 discouraged him from doing anything else for the community. You basically bullied someone off the internet.
In the responses to this people were just namecalling and strawmanning milkis, calling him a pussy/crybaby instead of dealing with what he actually said. I think I really despise this community.
Edit: I haven't read the OP, but this whole apology shit seems very undeserved.

What the hell?
In any case, Milkis's translations conferred a great service upon the TL community, one for which we should all be grateful. His opinings did not confer this same service. His services, however, outweigh this, and while his passive-aggressive departure and mis-appropriation of his translator ethos has possibly stained his image, we ought not forget the glimpses he gave us to the Korean press.
I attempted to make this as neutral an evaluation as possible. Perhaps unduly positive, but I think we should err on the side of favorability.

Good luck my friend. We will miss you. I sort of feel that you shouldn't apologize for leaving. It is your right to do what you want. Go and accomplish your dreams. <3
I am no TL veteran so I don't know everything you've done for the community. I do know you've done many translations and have contributed to much exclusive content on TL. Because I don't really know that much about you it might be unfair to say it, but I do agree that the few posts that I have read from you often come off as a bit negative and condescending. Obviously from this blog you are not a condescending person. It's hard to stay positive with some much drama in the SC community these days so don't take it so hard on yourself. Sometimes a break is a good thing. I think you are making the correct decision and thanks for all you've done!

I don't know how I got to this point, but I have to agree with IdrA. I drove 12 hours to Orlando simply to try to get signatures from the old BW legends that I knew would be there (July & Boxer).
I approached July literally four times at the event (when he bothered to come out from the back or the stage area at all) and he was constantly with Milkis. I was told not now, later in the event the first three times. The last time was after his elimination match when I saw him sign two shirts before Milkis came over to him. Once Milkis was there, I held up my pen and Milkis said "No, he won't sign now he's upset after losing you understand?" without even talking to July at all. (I was next to July the entire time)
Thankfully Boxer and Jessica held signings several times on their own, so I do have a sweet Boxer sig. I understand that Milkis has to keep these guys on a tight schedule, but man I won't ever get to meet July again. Freaking made me really mad at the time.

At least this "douchebag" has the decency to admit and apologize when he's been a "douchebag".

Definitely. From what I've heard, IdrA is the nicest guy ever to his fans who meet him in person.

This really isn't much of an issue. The guy needs to grow up and understand that since he has become a community figure, the content or opinions that he puts out are going to be judged. If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Meh, no surprises here, most people in the other thread called it from the get go. Like i said last time, i appreciate the work and effort but don't let your ego get out of control. Imagine if yakii acted like this whenever someone whined because they couldn't watch the latest VOD 1sec after it aired.

Not exactly the way that I would have phrased it, but it seems Milkis was being that chick who just all of a sudden starts to treat you like shit because she wants you to dump her so she can be the victim.
Didn't work, and I'm glad he manned up and admitted it, but it doesn't paint a good picture of him in my mind.
passive aggressiveness is the most annoying thing ever
The amount of attention seeking here is ridiculous, just leave if you want to leave. I agree with idra writing an apology blog doesnt mean anything, if you are sorry for the drama whoring and stuff just stop posting blogs and do your own thing.
so first u do a pretty poor job translating(let's be honest here) and somehow get a lot of fans and support for it but ofc, just like everything else, there are a few haters and then you posted some blog on reddit that nobody really cares about: you said your opinion, they said theirs. and that was the end of it. but for some reason you got more offended by their opinion than they did of yours. then cried about the well deserved responses, and said u were gonna leave forever or something then u posted some 5 minute apology on... basically nothing... and what boggles my mind the most is how u say u dont want attention, but then constantly brag about how you're with drg and other pros, just saying theres the sparknotes for u sadistx

Whats wrong with apologizing to people though...if he made a mistake he should be allowed to say sorry. You could view it as attention seeking, but what's that really based on? According to you there would be no way for him to apologize because anything he says would attract attention, which is kind of silly
Hypersensitivity is an unfortunate by-product of passion- I dont know you at all Milkis, but there's always been a deer caught in headlights feel to your involvement with SC2. A break is definitely in order but I hope over time you learn not to take yourself too seriously and just start taking healthy credit for all the joy you've brought people. Being humble is great, but when you find yourself checking your emotions all the time to maintain a public persona you end up building up a lot of latent anger whilst wallowing in your own self-pity.
So stop saying sorry and listing grovelling apologies and just do whatever you need to do. At the end of the day, people don't go to bed thinking "Milkis is a douche" nor do they wake up and think "Milkis, what a hero."

Dude if you are going to flame out and leave then don't keep making drama threads. This is literally the worst possible way to go out.
Have you ever seen a low-league zerg who can't make up their mind about whether they should engage or run away? And they run their zerglings and mutas back and forth while the marines get free shots? And in the end they should have just done one thing or the other but due to the indecision everything was made much worse? That's you right now. You are those zerglings running in circles in front of marines.

MLG pays him. I'm not aware of who on TL is paid and unpaid.
Good on you Milkis, shows a lotta maturity to apologize like this. I wish you all the best in your academic career, although I'll miss your contributions to SC none the less!
Thanks for all of your contributions, Milkis. Hope to see you back soon. Also, don't take yourself so seriously, man. You will be such a happier person. (I know this is cliche and stuff but I really do mean it)
It saddends me that this arrogant kid gets all the attention and support from TL'ers instead of many people that are behind the scenes who have contributed to the community WAY more than him for basically free. What have this kid done for the community to create such drama? Translated in a couple of MLG's? BFD...
I must be completely out of the loop on TL drama because it took me a bunch of searching to figure out what this was about; I didn't even recognize your name. I read some of your translations so thanks for those! Volunteer work is respectable and I hope you realize that it's very much appreciated.
Good luck with whatever you do and hope you come back sometime.
He's a total asshole IMO. There are plenty of elitists who call a BW better than SC2, which it isn't (evident based on the E-Sports scene). They don't, however, take a shit all over the community then come back to cry about it like a little bitch because everyone hates them.
You have two choices, either A) Don't be a douche in the first place or B) If you are a douche, accept it, don't do what you did and say something stupid then apologize, no one gives a fuck about your reasons or apology you did something stupid as hell, said something terribly wrong, and this is what you get.
Further, what qualifies you to decide which is better, YOURE A FUCKING TRANSLATOR, you probably suck dick at Starcraft, so for you to make a decision between the two holds no ground a diamond league player on any ladder has more ground than you, IdrA by a long shot has more credit than you towards that decision.
Brood War players need to pull their head out of their ass and understand that their game doesn't hold E-Sports value anymore, if you want your genre to continue get on board and start getting with the times your nostalgia is ridiculous. Milkis you should take that advice, but first, get the fuck out of the scene.
People are criticizing him for immediately apologizing, but they'd do the same if he waited + Show Spoiler +
He's admitting mistakes and taking a break from the community to try and gain some maturity. I respect that decision and wish him luck. Growing up is hard.

This, and idra's statements feel rather true to me. This apology reeks of someone who refuses to believe their actions have consequences, and will avoid them whenever possible. I do hope you mean to do better, but I think you'd best start by learning to learn of situations and base your opinions on facts, rather than crazy emotions and nostalgic bias or cultural favoritism.
Your volunteering as a translator was a good act, but doing something good does not excuse doing something despicable and ignorant. Most insults have basis in true, valid criticism. They might not be as apparently damaging when you no longer have thousands of eyes looking at you, but they are seen as strongly negative for a reason. Take care to look at them honestly and fix them as soon as you are able. "Humble Brags" can be as damaging in personal relations and friendships as any other significant flaw.
Just Saying, I'm sorry but, I don't mean to be/sound/etc. mean nothing, and you only seem more craven and less respectable when using them.
I hope you can improve and return sometime, and this shows you are at least aware of some problems, but I hope you do something to actually improve upon them, rather than flee and attempt to avoid blame, as it seems you continue to do even now.

This is cool, but then this:
The point is that e-Sports is something that is extremely distracting, at least at the level that I have took it in.
Couldn't you just dial back your involvement instead of getting all dramatic and saying you'll quit the scene forever? SC2 is a spectator sport and producing and facilitating content isn't for everybody, of course. Translate something if you've got the free time and think it'd be fun to share, or don't if you don't want to or don't have the time. No need to go and get a job with MLG herding Koreans everywhere. Remove the obligations that inflated your ego and SC is still a pretty cool scene to follow. Maybe chew some Stride gum to bring down the ego as well :D.
I hope this whole thing teaches everybody to never make threads titled "Good Bye" or "An Apology" ever again though -_-.
I have changed my opinion of Milkis, I think it's very commendable for someone to want to concentrate on themselves and their own development, putting themselves first for once.
Live life without regret and do what you love doing,

I don't ever remember Idra jumping through hoops to convince the community of his opinions and then apologize for them. He at least keeps it 100 all the time, so its quite easy to see where he stands.
As far as this blog goes, if another doesn't follow for at least a week it will be much more convincing than batting for both teams and apologizing to the community about it. Good luck on future endeavors.
As far as apologizing goes, its more so a verb not a wall of text or a feeling. It isn't something that you have to name brand milkis and show to the community. It is an action that you take without expecting a medal of honor. Altruistic Apology.

The amount Milkis has DONE for this community completely outweighs any damage he's supposedly caused. What did he even do anyway? Piss some people off, boo hoo. It's not like he made sponsors leave. He didn't hurt your sanctimonious e-sports. You can call the apology insincere if you believe it, but hurting e-sports, lol. You're elevating the situation and being melodramatic for no reason.
Milkis, your behavior the last couple of days has been detrimental to the community. We have had many outbursts from you to try and seek out attention, but you need to realize, we all have these problems. Don't let these last couple of days hit you too hard, we've all been upset at one point in our lives. I'm not concerned with the people around you being dicks, I'm concerned with you being a dick to yourself. If you must concentrate on your studies, and "chase that rabbit" go forward, but just remember we will always remember you for all the good things you have done to our community in bridging the language barriers between the foreign fans and the koreans. So please, don't let this hit you too hard, we all want attention, and we all have personal problems that we have to deal with, I'm sure none of us have any right to judge you about your emotional maturity, because none of us are perfect.

How can you be so single-minded and believe because someone does something "good" means that everyone will enjoy it. You can't possibly believe that because someone has done some good at some point in their lives they can be relinquished of all bad things they've done. If it was like this then so many people who are in jail would not be in jail.

Gotta agree with the Grack.
Fuck anyone who's name ends in milkis
Holding a grudge over something dumb is pretty much a spoiled 16-year old high school girl thing to do. There are man rules, and one of them is men never hold grudges.
I'm gonna have to give both of you a man-warning for breaking the rule. Let this be a learning experience for you two. You're welcome.
People need to stop trying to make big deals out of everything, especially mistakes.
Never holding a grudge is not a rule of man. If my friend decides to fuck my girl because we're having issues or whatever, he's going to be blacklisted for life. I don't give a shit if he says sorry or buys me a car. He showed his true character, I would hold a grudge for life. Does that make me less of a man?
What Milkis did was childish and immature, he showed his true character when he broke down because the internet teased him. People judged him and that's that. Forgiveness is overrated. If you want to continue to support him that's fine and dandy, just don't expect others to follow suit.

Some sort of an apology? Nah man, u don't need to do anything you don't really want. You made a post and created so much drama. That's the kinda stuff you really think about before posting, not after. You let your emotions get the best of you and did something to hurt e-sports. And now you believe you owe us "some sort of an apology"? No thx. I'm with IdrA on this one..
He HURT e-sports? Rofl. Okay. I must hurt E-Sports just by breathing then.
Actually in a way he has been hurting e-sports at least sc2. Do you think if a sponsor that is deeply connected within the sc2 scene does not read TL? Lets say a sponsor reads all this Milkis drama and decided they don't want to sponsor sc2 events anymore because sc2's premier korean translator was very emotional and sprung up some hate. Sponsors don't want to sponsor a game whose top people are unprofessional.
i dont see why the dude is apologizing. he thinks bw is awesome and sc2 sucks, who cares? so a bunch of angry nerds cried over it and criticized him, sounds like he's being oversensitive. why do their negative opinions matter. he should take a page out of idra's book and not give a fuck. this just seems like he's desperately seeking more attention.

so who's this idra guy; I heard he's pretty good at the game
THERES JUST SOME SHIT IN YOUR POST I GOTTA DEAL WITH.
I'm writing this because I believe that
BRO THERE'S TWO INDEPENDENT CLAUSES HERE. YOU HAVE TO USE A COMMA IN CONJUNCTION WITH YOUR CONJUNCTION.
I specifically would like to apologize to djwheat and Slasher specifically.
You're better than this, man.
know that there exists a comment on IRC from the TL Staff Channel that suggests otherwise but if the person had read the comments that came afterwards they'd have realized I made the comment simply because of what had happened (IE: My poor choice of words created a lot of backlash) not because I stirred something up on purpose.
HOLY SHIT, BREAK THIS SHIT UP
That's one thing that I really want to clear that specifically.
I KNOW YOU'RE EMOTIONAL BUT COME ON
for creating such a drama.
This is fine, but I feel that "such drama" would be more idiomatic. I admit that I can only represent American English.
I have no idea what I'm trying to accomplish nor what I even want
The combination of "nor" and "even" is kind of awkward here; I feel that you should avoid unbalancing a nor construction with a superlative.
It's a flaw that I always had
"It's a flaw I have always had"
slowly overtaken me.
overtake
AND SO ON. I KNOW ITS EMOTIONAL BUT EDITING SHOULD BE IN YOUR BLOOD. PEACE AND LOVE MILKIS!!!!!
oh also this has been annoying for a lot of people who are actually contributing to the community, like tl banlings and djwheat and all the people who had to actually deal with this drama, but if you're just spectating this shitshow then complaining... you could've, yknow, ignored it? if you hated the drama but didn't ignore it, you should consider this a lesson! cuz god knows there's always gonna be drama.
also theres people like kennigit who live on this shit

The only thing I really knew about milkis was he translated the story of when MC chased down some pick pocket and ever since that moment I loved milkis, Whether or not you hate the sc2 scene and hate starcraft 2, I still love you and thanks for all the translation you have ever done, good luck in your life...

ive never apologized for anything so im pretty sure its ok
rofl what a fucking child...... never apologized. You must have a lot of friends

Oh hush, what are you, the personality police?
Ontopic, at least you realised your foolish act Milkis, took a bunch of hate to get an apology lol
I've never really used reddit and just searching for this so-called article is proving to be difficult. Don't see it linked anywhere in this thread either. HM!
Okay, so let me get this straight. People pounced on Milkis because of his poor choice of words: "BW is the only real eSport." Give me a break. People say silly stuff all the time. Just got to deal with it. If you say you couldn't careless what people think then it's best to stop writing off on it.
That's how people live and learn man. You don't need to address it in a blog or issue an apology. It was tongue in cheek. BW will always be in your blood and if that feeling is every recreated again it's by fluke.

Don't you think it's a little presumptuous to make statements like that? I mean, maybe you know Milkis incredibly well or something, but I'm going to take his apology at face value because I believe he deserves that. You sound like you know he doesn't mean it, and I'm curious as to how you could know that.
who gives a crap if he means it or not just because you say "o sry my bad had a PMS moment" doesnt excuse you from your actions. this apology means nothing prove that you actually regret what you wrote and make up for it dont make up some BS apology hoping the community will go back to worshiping you. (which is undeserving in the first place)
Milkis I am really sadden that people turn back on you for just an opinion you had over a game , it's like saying my wife is beautiful and the others are not . People than disagree with you , Than started attacking you from all side and that to me is unacceptable . Still we bw fans will always miss you T_T come back please when everything is settle.

Its comments like this that I find bothersome. Milkis owes you guys absolutely nothing. I think as a whole our community is quite possibly the most defensive group of people I've ever seen in my entire life. This is nothing more than another Elephant in the Room article and you guys need to take it with a grain of salt.
As for your spiel about apologies. Yeah, I take those with a grain of salt too especially when it comes over the internet. You truly have no clue if they are genuine/sincere, etc. Bullshit or not, I think you guys have to JLIG.
Milkis needs a rest, which is fine. This community isn't going anywhere. He can come back whenever he wants and perhaps he'll work on smoothing out those ticks he has as a person. You got to be comfortable in one's skin and he obviously isn't.
No matter what you may have said, it doesn't erase the fact that you've put so much heart and soul and so many countless hours into the work you've done for us. You've been an invaluable resource to the community the day you joined, and you stepped up when others wouldn't.
So be selfish. Why shouldn't you be - you've earned at least that much. I hope that you'll be able to get plenty or rest and time to reflect. When (and if) you decide to come back, I hope you know there are many of us who will still support you.

I agree with some of your points in the way that this really doesnt matter at all but then why does he feel the need to make his disappearance a grand story then his triumph return. As a community the players/commentators/translators/everyone doesnt owe us anything but when you address the community he should be prepared to take the negative feedback and stop being so power hungry.

This exactly. Milkis deserves no respect, the guy is uneducated and idiotic for throwing out posts without even thinking about the repercussions...
On November 02 2011 10:03 StarStruck wrote: Did I miss something? o_O;;
Now I'm going to have to search for it.
I found it here. Apparently Milkis wrote something that put BW as the only esport, neglecting FPS and such, then djWHEAT and Slasher responded as they care about FPS, and it became an online massacre, with everyone posting bad things against Milkis and his work. (which is obviously irrelevant ad hominem)
The way I see it - none of this is so important, and he shouldn't worry about it. But in Korea due to the strict Internet regulations, people take stuff over the Internet very seriously. Milkis will be missed now, hope he changes his mind.

Why are you attacking him from his personal point of view of what is GREATNESS to him and just because he doesn't agree that Sc2 or any " insert your name esport game " is the best in the world . Warrant him to be called and uneducated ,idiot ? .Why are you doing these ? just because you can ride the majority wave of opinion ? .

This isn't based on one single post. He has made several posts (blogs etc) before this one with the same idiocy and lack of forward thinking. I do not follow majority waves of opinion, I speak my mind regularly even if it is not liked by the majority. I've been a part of several competitive gaming communities and post my mind a lot when people do stupid things.
The white knighting is ridiculous though, he made a TERRIBLE mistake and needs to live with that. He knew when he posted that he would get a tremendous amount of backlash. That is, if he wrote the entire article himself.
This for me is on the same level of the Stephano contract situation. I still have not changed my mind on that situation even with all of this "information" that was supposed to help stephano's case.

Some people deal with criticism better than others.
Nature of the beast. The parallels between Kelly and Milkis, Milkis is baffling, no? Ha.
People can be such internet drama queens. I say let them get it out of their system and someday they'll look back on it and think about how foolish they used to be. =D

I have seen many times how someone could screw it really hard, this is one of them. I hope Milkis could get his main rabbit, since this one is almost lost. Then probably he would realize this was the main rabbit, but w/e.
who cares THIS MUCH about someone's opinion on a videogame (or a sport, a song, etc)? jesus christ chill out and get some perspective. mob rage over stupid shit never ceases to amaze me
I'm also being selfish because I'd like to concentrate on myself for the first time in my life.
밀키스 굿바이 그동안 수고가 많았네 용서하마
Selfish =/= Acting in your self interest. It's pretty important to realize what the difference is.
If that's what you need to do that's cool but to say it's the first time in your life? I sincerely feel bad for you and wish you the best in your personal development.
As Ghostclaw says on page 1, that would be life. Glad to hear the amount of self awareness you have- that's always the first step in being more comfortable with yourself, but its not the last step. We're all flawed.
Hope that you come back to contribute more awesome when you feel that you're ready-- the fact that there was drama and the fact that being over emotional causes backlash doesn't negate the contributions you've made, and I hope you realize that.
Okay, I read through now, I still stand by my first post!
And lol, I'm 100% like you in the aspect of never taking care of myself, actually I'm maybe the most stupid person I know in that area lol.
I just re-arrange the detail when things happen, and I keep re-arranging until it doesn't work anymore.
For instance, I got up a rotten tooth at the back once, a wisdom tooth. And if I ever touched it with something I'd scream!! (Not literally, but it hurt a lot).
So I just stopped eating from the left side of my mouth, after awhile this worked, like 6 months to a year. Then it got so bad, that just a small crumb would send pulses of pain through my body.
Np, I just changed to soups.
This worked for awhile too, then if I ever closed my mouth fast or accidently, subconciously had my tongue rub on to it, I almost collapsed. So then I went to the doctor and he pulled it out and I was fine, yay xD
I find it deeply depressing that people in this community could show so much hate towards one person, its very very sad. He made a mistake yes (he may of made several - who cares) and he apologised - what more would you like him to do? stand around doing a dance to your exact requirements?
I also find it particular frustrating that Idra of all people (hardly a great track record there!) has the tenacity to be getting his knickers in even more of a twist over this....pure lol worthy.
