the more important aspect of food and working out is eating RIGHT after working out. You should eat something, at least like an apple or banana. Then have a good high protein meal/protein shake within 45 minutes of finishing your workout to maximize muscle building potential edit: 2-3 hours is a long time to wait, what do you consider a healthy meal at home that would take so long to digest before being able to comfortably work out?

I usually eat breakfast (7 am?) then lunch (12/1 pm) and hit the gym at 5 pm. I eat dinner when I get back at about 8 pm.

eating a very light meal "before" (like 1 hour before) is good as long as you take protein after the workout (immediately). Everyone works out from time to time when they are tired/not in a condition to workout. BUt making THAT the scheduled time to workout is a bad idea.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_Value look at the values of the stuff there, whey protein is needed basically if you wanna take it seriously, other than that eggs/beef/fish are good ideas. If you don't get protein right after ur workout (20 minutes or so i believe) then a lot of the potential for muscle growth is lost

Sure it does.. but the general recommendation is 6-8 small meals a day and from personal preference I can tell you that working out with a full stomach sucks. So I just don't risk it.. light meal or not.

Actually, the best time to work out is first thing in the morning, but that can be difficult.

I dont want to start using protein cans or whatever they are selling out there. It is tough. I know a lot of people don't like to workout late at night but that is when I do it. That way I get home from class, feed myself and have time to relax before going to the gym. Good protein food is chicken breast, tuna, peanut butter or beef. In that order imo. But if you can, getting a container of whey protein IS the best thing to do. I usually take in around 60 grams of protein a day.

I don't feel tired when i don't eat. I just mentioned it because you need to eat protein to develop muscles. btw. i doubt you won me ZvZ....i never play zerg My life for Aiur, entaro adun.

If it isn't, I would say bring a big snack to work, eat it an hour before work is over, and then go work out. INC you only take in 60g of protein? How tall are you? I would have imagined that you eat much more than that.

My biggest problem about exercising is that after i start relaxing at home i never wanna go hit the gym. Last time we tried going to the gym we quit after a week or so, that's why i think that instead of going there at like 7pm we can go at 3pm so that we actually continue to go on a regular basis. When i actually have acquired the right ideology and start liking going to the gym and start losing some weight, i might as well go there after a good protein meal in order to build some muscle. I think the practical solution is the better one atm. Btw incontrol how did you start going to the gym a lot? Did you like it right of the bat or did it take some time to like it and start going regularly? In other words will we be able to be going there regularly without it looking like a big pain in the ass?

Yeah I've said it before.. the dietary aspect of my training is by far the worst cannot afford all the good food I would need and 60g of protein is "ok" but not great >_<

For a beginner, I just wanna throw this out there: you are trying to lose some fat and get fit. So don't just do some strength based workout and stop. Make your workout long. Make yourself sweat a TON. Make yourself absolutely exhausted when you are done. If you do this, and keep doing it for a while, you will grow to love it. I guarrantee it :D

It just felt like it was ment for me Do you have proper program to guide your training or do you just bounce around the gym and do what you feel like doing? I would also suggest to eat a small meal like tuna and rice ~1hr before leaving work and then hitting the gym straight from work. Eating right is important even though you guys just want to lose weight and you won't become bodybuilders just by eating some extra protein

I feel that you have so much more to give, because your body is kinda "warmed up" If I went home and ate, chilled for a few hours, it was fucking horrible to work out.. I felt tired and not motivated. Im sure this differs from person to person, but I stongly reccommend working out right after you're finished at work, then eat loads when you get home. Edit: Ok, if you wanna lose weight, things might be different, but avoid heavy meals before you sleep..its probably better to work out after eating if youre gonna lose weight when I think about it.

That's definitely right. If your goal is losing fat, that's best achieved by cardio workout - simplest thing is running. I recently started hitting the gym myself with a friend that knows his stuff, and helps me out - I just want to wish luck to the both of you

I think you could focus on lifting weights at the gym and do running outside of your gym time because lifting burns calories aswell and running outside is more fun. Could help with your motivation issues. And get more specified program for the lifting. It's easier to follow a program than just bounce around when you are just starting and when you know what you are doing I think you can enjoy it more.
