How will you ever break most posts in a week record now? :<
|
|
wtf...were you trying to set a record for nail length or something??
I've heard this is an issue for people who don't trim their nails for a long time...capillaries begin to grow in them...so it becomes troublesome if the nails are freely grown for too long. :X
I don't know about your case, though...lol.

White pus keeps appearing. Now it looks like blood and water mixed.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough, I meant the sides of the fingernail.
And I'm doing the Hwaseung vs KTF translations, it's such a pain (to type).

Hey.. dude! If you got something like this: (paronychia)
Go and see a doctor, because you need a surgery. Its not as bad as it sounds ,but if you leave it and you think it will heal all for itself, its wrong! I had it 2 times in my life, because I cutted my nails wrong.. (I had it at my toe though). The doctor will cut your nail and remove the part of the nail which is in the flesh and it can't happen anymore, never again.
-_-; I hope I'm not scaring you, because the surgery isn't bad.. it hurts much more to leave it like it is.
|
Apply neosporin and a gauze pad, keep it covered except when you bathe to prevent possible infection. From the sound of it your nail became ingrown, so you should look out for infection. In the meantime, do the first step.

I used soju to disinfect it
The fingernail grew into the sides and pushed into the skin, I cut it off, and it still hurts
|
ooohh...that sucks balls. You should bandage it up...and stop typing. You're only gonna make it worse by aggravating it, haha.
|
holy crap that sounds painful. i had something like that on my toe like when i was a kid. my mom slashed the hell out of it haha and it never grew back like that again. yeah agreed with PH, stop typing, let it heal

What you describe "Fingernail growing into the sides and pushing the skin" is exactly what I posted. Trust me, see a doctor. It will grow in the flesh again because you can't cut it properly I guess. (when it already grew into the flesh once that is..)
Could also look like this..

I think I used to get that on my toes, but that was with poorly cut nails and a lot of running so that the pressure actually allowed the nails to sink in I think. It is a major pain to deal with, though I didn't have to go to the doctor for it. Like some people mentioned, disinfectant is an obvious concern, which you seem to have taken care of. I had no idea that you could get it on your finger nails though.
Also, what I ended up doing that helped was letting the nail grow past my toes, that way the corners of the nail is actually beyond the flesh, so it can't become ingrown. Maybe if you don't cut your nails in too much it'd have similar effects? Good luck with that though, hope it stops hurting soon.

Yes dude! Thats exactly what I'm talking about. You probably still have a part of the nail in the flesh. Thats why its swollen. It won't go away from soju. The doctor will cut the flesh , the nail and stitch it..

Problem is I don't know if it's removed, and this is not my first time. Other times I just cut a whole chunk out, and it bleeds like mad. After a week or so it recovers though, so it's fine with me.

Try bathing it in some warm water (or even camomile tea if you can find it.) - I've had an ingrown tow nail in the past so I totally sympathise with you - it hurts like hell and is annoying too! Also Aloe vera is very soothing (once things such as this have healed a little and aren't so raw.)

It's terrible to say it, but my Mum used to bathe our cat's eyes with swabs coated in camomile tea if they got infected. She said it's really soothing and works for a lot of things. It's amazing how healing tea can be in different respects. (Shame I hate proper green tea -_- )

I've had that once on one of my toes, like fanatacist says it's just an ingrown nail. You don't always need surgery, mostly you just apply a bandage with some product on it (it was something bordeaux/red for me) and it'll heal. Surgery is only necessary when it becomes really bad. Edit: and I also had to bathe it in some warm water with desinfectant stuff in it, that was the fun part. ^_^

It's quite a lot for TL.net. One of my friends even tried to talk me into a bet that admins are actually increasing your post count since it's going up so fast.
Also, try bathing your finger in warm water and keep a soaked bandage if it starts to swell. Try to keep the place clean and keep to pressure applied on the finger to the minimum.
Hope you'll be better soon.

I'd say go to the doctors and get it checked. Your finger is infected you'll need some antibiotic for it.

I had to have about 1/3rd my toenail removed on my left big toe because of this. The removal was a little unpleasant, but not soooo bad.
The toe infection area was the absolute worst, any sort of pressure on my toe hurt so much
there is a good chance it has to do with not cutting my nails properly. I didn't keep up with them so well.

When I was a kid, we used to have a swing set in our back yard. On one side of the swing set, we had one of those two person swings where you face each other. It was similar to the thing on the left in this picture: + Show Spoiler +
Except there was one key difference; where the one in the picture has no moving parts at the top, ours had 2 separate poles connecting to the top with a gear like fixture connecting them. When the swing set was designed, the little gear was covered by a guard. However, in the years that we had owned the set, the guard had fallen off.
No big deal, until one day my cousin dared me to stick my thumb in the little gear, and I for some reason listened to him. All I remember after that is being rushed to the hospital with my aunt holding my hand in a bowl full of ice, and now I have a gnarly under-the-nail scar to show for it.
Edit: Still have the nail though.

I remembered it as Tetanus too, but googling it gave me this "Tetanus, also called lockjaw, is a medical condition characterized by a prolonged contraction of skeletal muscle fibers." so I thought I was wrong lol
For tetanus, you can get a vaccine at a young age right? So did you get infected?
|
As far as I remember there were no tetanus shots or anything when I got to the hospital, but it was a loooong time ago. I was probably up to date on my immunizations anyways though.
Tetanus is a serious illness caused by tetanus bacteria. The bacteria live in soil, saliva, dust and manure. The bacteria usually enter the body through a deep cut, like those you might get from cutting yourself with a knife or stepping on a nail.
The infection causes painful tightening of the muscles, usually all over the body. It can lead to "locking" of the jaw, which makes it impossible to open your mouth or swallow. If this happens, you could die of suffocation.
If you get tetanus, there is usually a long course of treatment. The tetanus vaccine can prevent tetanus but its protection does not last forever. Adults should get a tetanus shot, or booster, every 10 years. If you get a bad cut or burn, see your doctor--you may need a booster.
