Is this a joke? Is this whole thread a joke? Artosis does the most by a long shot - a LONG shot... seriously though, why do you need to take basically a fan thread and turn it into a mud throwing competition Because forums are about discussion. This might as well be twitter if all we do is post about how much we love everybody. If there is criticism, I will post it. I won't hold back because of what he's done for the community. 'OMG Artosis is way better' does not constitute discussion. Neither is being a hivemind to a person who commentates a game he isn't even good at. He was good at broodwar and that's when I liked him. Now he is just teaching the masses how to be competent. He is now an HDStarcraft or a Husky. He is not special. Artosis, however, knows his shit and he gets that information out. Are you kidding me? I've learned FAR more from Day9 about Starcraft 2 than HD or Husky combined. HD and Husky are only commentators. Day9 is a commentator AND he teaches people throughout the week with his dailies. He's taught common knowledge to the masses. That is what HD and husky do, and all of the other casters that aren't really good at what they do. There has been a single daily since he started doing sc2 that I learned anything from, and that was the 2v2 one because I am not a 2v2 player. Day9 knows next to nothing about sc2 compared to what he knew about brood war. He shouldn't be praised as the best of anything he does because he is just Husky or HD with a different voice and a bit more analysis. In this regard, Artosis is the better caster. He is the better player. Why isn't he getting nominated for this award? Accepting your premise that he is not good, and only teaches what you view as common sense to the masses... I'm having a difficult time following how you come to the conclusion that he shouldn't win the shorty award. Because I'd imagine a player teaching basic things to noobs would be just about exactly what they'd be looking for in a person to give the award to.
If you look at general trends among who are praised or awarded for things they do out in the world, you're most likely going to find it is people who are helping the masses, or the average person. For example, a prominent musical director who begins a program to help teach music to young students is much more likely to be praised with an award than a prominent musical director who teaches advanced musical lessons to the already elite.
You make a correct statement at the end with Artosis deserving to be nominated, but that does not give any more validity to your overall point you were making.
The awards ridiculous ambiguity makes the whole argument over this seem kind of pointless, though . Hopefully they'll make their purpose more clear in the future.

Day9 is at a top 200 NA level, but he didn't have the time to ladder that much since he had his school work.

I think it's a pretty fair assumption to say that he isn't a total scrub, but we know nothing of his current skill level. Last time I saw him play was the game vs tasteless where he did a retarded mistake, think it was back in beta or something and since then I'v never seen him play a real game even though I'v watched a lot of his content.
Anyways, just seems like wild guessing when saying he's a top 200 NA player and you just make it look like it's a widely known fact.

Several people who know his smurf accounts have confirmed that Day9 plays at a high masters level.
The guy was good at BW so he must have godly mechanics, and it's pretty clear that he has a good understanding of the game strategically.

If you really want view on Day9's insight and how much he knows the game, I recommend this week's SotG where he doesn't have to follow his D9D mindset of presenting broad, simple, but important ideas of RTS games.

Goddamnit seananners. No one likes you.
|
The only reason why I think they would have chosen SeaNanners is because of the tweeting aspect of the competition. I mean, after all...it's about what's done through Twitter..interacting with the community, giving insider looks, etc.
In terms of making esports grow though, Day9 is DEFINITELY more deserving.

who cares what his ranking lvl is when he gives us such good advice and information...srsly...

Ha, got my vote in again. Go Sean!

Naw, some guy called seananners won. I watched a little of the dude and I guess he's good at the game, but mostly he talks about random stuff. But in the meantime, Day9 has been on Forbes 30 Under 30, so guess he wins anyways.
Maybe all those late registry Twitter accounts will help out? Last time we had a mass of people joining in, but they were discounting votes from recently made Twitter accounts. So maybe those year old twitter accounts will come in handy.

He's a video blogger, who just so happens to put some random Call of Duty gameplay in the background, that's all. And that's exactly what the other hundreds of CoD YouTube heroes do, talk about unrelated shit and label it as 'gaming'.
