After seeing Day9's call to arms about making E-Sports happen instead of waiting for it to happen i felt inspired.
What better way than to start this campaign by letting the twitter community know just how much E-Sports means to us by voting Day9 as the shorty award winner in the gaming category.
I nominate @day9tv for a Shorty Award in #gaming because his efforts to E-Sports are inspirational
or something along those lines, lets get E-Sports big and make it happen not wait for it!
EDIT: Just saw this when reading about the competition :
Voters must be active Twitter users prior to the start of the competition. Votes originating from new Twitter accounts or accounts used mainly for Shorty Awards voting will automatically be disqualified and will not count toward the rankings
Unfortuantely unless you have a twitter account from before you saw this thread i dont think you will be able to contribute! so... rally your twitter friends!
I just submitted my vote, but my entry didn't show up on the list. That had me confused for a moment, so I looked up the rules page, and found some stipulations that might be relevant:
Voters must be active Twitter users prior to the start of the competition. Votes originating from new Twitter accounts or accounts used mainly for Shorty Awards voting will automatically be disqualified and will not count toward the rankings
A tweet that does not give a reason for the nomination will not be counted
Wow, SeaNanners, Toby and TotalBiscuit in the Top 10. I feel disgusted that such shitty people can be so high up. Oh well, I guess if you're popular you can just get your legion of YouTube droolers to vote for you, right?

What's wrong with TotalBiscuit? He's a decent SC2 commentator and he does a lot for the WoW community. He isn't the total baller that is Day9 but a top 10 spot for him is quite justified imo.

Well, he's alright, but people are more deserving. Tasteless, for example. I just hate his World of Warcraft stuff really, because World of Warcraft is now mediocre as fuck.
I also dislike his 'cynical' persona. A lot of things he says aren't cynical, but more it's just being a total arsehole that whines a lot. If he dropped that dumb shit and World of Warcraft, I would like him a lot more.
Guys, making new accounts wont work, it check to see if its a newly made account and if so, those will not count. So unless you already had a twitter account, dont bother to make a new one for this.
Just voted. I am amazed that day[9] only has like 500 votes. Seems like it should be higher but I suppose a lot of people don't have active twitter accounts.

You're a classy individual.
And a reminder to folks, registering a new account doesn't work, says so in the rules, they detect new joiners and disqualify those votes automatically.

That guy can go trip on a stick. TotalBiscuit, never had heard of you before the Reddit invitational and I have to say, you're now one of my favorite casters. I subscribed to your youtube channel and checked out some of your works and I'm really impressed, you must stay really busy. It is pathetic for anyone to question your position in the polls, you do a lot for the community even if it is not only our own. Thank you.
Dude, seriously TotalBiscuit should easily earn someone's vote if they just sat down and watched him. He works so fucking hard: volunteering to cover a variety of different events, even donating to prize pools.

TotalBiscuit fightiiiiing~~!!!
That's what happens when you set an example Sean, those of us who look up to you follow it.
i even made a twitter account to do this and I H8 TWiTTER!! thats how much I <3 day9
If you guys look at the rules for winning, its really not that much of a popularity contest since there are judges who decides everything as well. Day9 definitely is going to win this for sure

Dude, where's your manners? Just because they're not particulary involved with only the starcraft/eSport scene doesn't make them unworthy for an award does it? I don't follow any of the people you mentioned but you don't have to trash them because you don't like them.
On January 21 2011 09:22 tholyc wrote: Meh, SeaNanners is actually one of the "better" CoD/FPS commentators, but imho Day9 still deserves this award a bajillion times more..
Hadnt heard anything about him before this but he seems like a really cool and positive guy. Atleast the #1 award doesnt go to some random CoD caster with terrible english vocabulary
SeaNanners is a pretty funny guy, but Day[9] is superior in pretty much every aspect (humor, passion, amount of content). I think what really speaks to the quality of Day[9]'s work is that despite having 1/5th the amount of subscribers on youtube, the proportion of votes he has far exceeds that. People that watch Day[9] care more and that's all that should really matter.
Is that Seananners at the top? I remember watching some MW2 videos of his way back when it was popular. He was pretty entertaining guy so no shame losing to him sean.
It is so sad, everything that Sean has done for us, and he asks for a simple thing such as vote for him on the Shorty Awards, and we can not come through for him. Come on guys we can make this happen for him,
EDIT: the final judges base their decisions on what we type when we vote... so please put something nice and try to restrain from saying "I vote for day9tv because day9 made me do it!"
Seananners has about 450,000 subscribers. He is more popular and more well-known than Day9, hell, he's got more subs than Husky, but he's part of a different community of course. Relax though, it's the Top 6 that get into the finals, then it's down to panel judging. Day9 will get into the finals guaranteed at this point.
However, it bares repeating, making new accounts and voting doesn't help. Unless the account was active before the nominations started, their script automatically ignores the vote.

Yeah... I have account that I never use, posted like 4 things total on it and had it for a couple of months, so I guess you have to active on it, which makes it even harder. Didn't get my vote counted
You can't make a twitter account , you have to have an existing twitter account- and i've noticed that some people don't actually say why they voted for him- which in the rules say twitter staff won't count. You have to say WHY you voted for him.
***A tweet that does not give a reason for the nomination will not be counted
***The nomination must be relevant to the category

Not necessarily true. During the Jinro vs IdrA match in the recent GSL Ro8, #Jinro was in the top 10 trending words on Twitter during and after the game. I'm pretty sure it takes a lot of people typing about Jinro and Starcraft 2 in general to get the top 10 on a site like Twitter.
We just need to get those Starcraft 2 users to throw their support behind Day[9], fairly good chance some of them don't even know about the shorty awards. Or at least I hope that is the case! :D
If you have a twitter, make sure you let your followers know that THEY need to also nominate Day[9] for a shorty award. Sure, when you nominate for a shorty award you use your twitter account, but that isn't telling/asking your followers to do the same thing!
Day9 was way ahead for a while then the machima guy jumps ahead by like 1000. They got a really good following to get him ahead in less than a week. Considering that day9 pulls in more viewers in one night than the other guy has total votes you would think day9 could garner up enough support to move ahead.
The Shorty awards page has day9 listed as Sean Plott, and the picture of him looks like it was taken in his 'stoned surfer' phase. Maybe he's losing votes because people don't recognise the name or face?

Real fans would recognize that pic instantly + for sure know his RL name.
Come on show the FPS kids what real e-sports is all about! Esports in the west would be nothing if Sir Sean Plott were not here to protect it. Everyone shall know that RTS fanboyism is far superior to the mindless following of the FPS. Vote now, and free hat.

Yes I agree this could be hurting his vote count, it should at least say Sean "Day[9]" Plott for his name. This picture is certainly hard to recognize if you have not seen it associated with him before.
We're slowly inching up, keep it up guys! The TL community should have no problem getting Sean in 1st, even though the top 6 get nominated.
Remember that you can only vote with an active twitter account, and be sure to make your reason as awesome and genuine as possible; the way they choose who deserves the award is through reading the reasons that people provide in their tweets! (iirc)

I nominate @day9tv for a Shorty Award in #gaming because he makes me wet.
I nominate @day9tv for a Shorty Award in #gaming because of Day [J]
It's been said multiple times before, the contest wants serious reasons for why you're nominating him or the vote may not count. That means taking more than 10 seconds to type the first stupid thing that pops into your head before clicking "submit" and closing the browser.
Lets be a bit more mature about this. We're representing the Day[9] viewership here, not 4chan.
I suppose I should be thankful for any vote, but since they're actually taking into account the content of the votes themselves, seems like something to think about.
This should be getting more attention It would be pretty amazing if somebody from the writing team could feature an article on the homepage relating to this. It's obviously Sean deserves it considering the effort he puts forth in relation to the community.

Make sure you provide a genuine reason why you love Sean guys; they way to decide on who wins from the top 6 nominees is by reading the reasons that the voters had in their tweets. While the inside jokes are fun and easy, it would detriment Sean's chances of winning because the judges don't know those jokes. Take the extra 30 seconds to come up with something substantial!
atm he has 1k votes less than the first place (i have no idea who that is). if he only gets his live viewers (3-4k) then he can get the double amount of votes than the first place.
Voted.. I looked at the list and Day[9] deserves this award more than all other people combined.
EDIT: Yeah, i looked at the rules as well. We should write real reasons, not some "seananigans" like "day[j]" or "makes me wet" (i had to change my reason from "I'm a firebat on the north pole without him" just because of that)
Make sure you nominate day9tv - don't nominate day9, it's some random chinese? (i think I identified the language correctly?) person with 2 posts ever.
Edit: Man, I was going to sign up for twitter for this, but someone who has 0 posts/0 followed/0 followers has my username >:| Really now.
* Anyone with a valid, active, and public Twitter account can nominate any Twitter user for a Shorty Award in any category * Nominees are encouraged to take the Shorty Interview to help both voters and members of the Academy get to know them * The six users with the highest rank in each official category at the end of the nomination period become finalists * In case of a tie, all of the nominees who tied will be included as finalists * Nominations run through the end of January 2011
Judging
* Members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences will carefully review the finalists' tweets and Shorty Interview answers (if any) and fill out an anonymous survey with their choices for winners. Academy members are not allowed to vote on categories in which they are finalists or have conflicts of interest * To determine the winner in each category, the Academy will combine their own judgment with the outcome of the popular vote
Like who uses twitter everyday seriously. I just stalk famous ppl like everyone else. I assume the majority of ppl who follow Day9 on twitter are the same.
I don't agree with the voting system tbh. Not everyone tweets daily. Its kinda like talking to myself if I tweet something not directed at anyone..
Edit: when I finally learn korean maybe i'll send a daily msg to JD or something lol.
in February, the nominees will be narrowed down to six finalists in each category. Winners will be determined by a combination of popular vote and by the members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences. An awards ceremony, complete with 140-character acceptance speeches, will be held in March in New York City.

Hm, wonder if he has to contact them for the interview or vise-verse. That's kind of bias if they pick who gets interviewed.

There's a link on the website to take the interview, anyone can do it.
Disappointing that he's a steady 500 below the FPS guy. We need more TLers to vote :d Make e-sports happen damn it! We should try to keep the thread bumped up so that people see it.

Have voted five times now but It seems my votes doesn't count. Or at least I can't see my votes (It is an old account so don't know what is wrong). Anyway, go Day9 !!
I don't have a twitter account but already got 3 people to vote... Guys if you don't have an account just take 5 minutes and ask some of you MSN or w/e contacts to vote.
My friend sells health insurance and has like 20 twitter accounts in order to increase his organic hits on his website. I am going to get him to vote with all of them :D
There are thousands of TL community members that stroll through this website each day. that dude in first has....2700ish votes? Just the TL community alone can beat him. But what we really need to do is have every person get 3 friends with twitter accounts to vote. even if they dont know squat about starcraft. 2000 TL members get 3 friends that'll be 8000 votes total and we'll smash this dude.

i don't understand, he has 20.000 fucking followers, are all of them either A) new accounts who can't vote, B) people missed his tweet about or C) don't give a fuck ?
Come on, we can do it! Everybody get their friends/other gaming sites to vote for day9. Did somebody post this on gg.net allready? (Have no account there, otherwise I would.) TL must not lose!
Unfortunately, my vote doesn't count, as I had no account prior to the start of the contest. However, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for Day[J]. The number of votes he got (2,4K) would be sufficient to win in many other categories..
done!:D I also tried to convince some ppl not related to StarCraft to vote for Day[9]. Come on, can't be that difficult to convince some hundred twitter acc to vote?!
I voted but I don't think it was counted. My account is over year and a half old but only had 2 tweets on it before hand...
Damn it all.
Day[9] fans have norrowed the gap in terms of votes. I'm hopeful at the end of the day the Judges will go with Day[9], I want to see him put out the word on gaming a lot more and show the passion that can be involed with playing great video games at competitive level.
Why wait for esports to happen. Most of us should be all grown men now and able to see its potential. So lets all gather up and invest together in making eSport worldly recognized. Just that I don't want to be the one organizing it ~
Hey, it worked for that whole SC2 beating out every game in the G4 showdown thingy...
The problem with that is SeaNanners has around 140k more youtube subscribers than husky, and has just put up a second video asking for people to vote for him.
Day is guaranteed a spot in the final 6 anyway, and even though i'd love to see him win, losing to seananners wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
And I believe the voting is open till the end of this month.
The reason why seananners is winning is because of all the little machinima fanboys that he has. Think of the G4 showdown with the halo fanboys, and then add all the call of duty fanboys to that number too.
wow he is so close to regaining the lead again? when does the contest end? TL should really give it a spotlight for even just half a day, that should be sufficient to push him back up
lol Day9 looks so weird in the pic at the award site. guess I'm to used to seeing him with glasses or something. voted, hope you win Day9, you deserve it
SeaNanners is going to be tough to beat. Half of the problem is that starcraft 2 loses in a popularity contest with call of duty. The other half is that SeaNanners is genuinely beloved in that community. If the quality of the two candidates were judged properly then day9 would easily lead the way but come on, in this popularity contest it's going to be quantity prevailing over quality.
Sad as it is, I don't see Sean winning against a guy with 500K youtube subscribers. There was a time he was pulling ahead, but all the other guy had to do was just make another promo video and most likely sealed the deal.
Yeah. Put this on front page. I don't know how the mods think. But this is for the starcraft community, also gaming too. Sean deserves this than that guy who just put a promo and get votes
The six users with the highest rank in each official category at the end of the nomination period become finalists.
There is no chance Day9 will not get nominated as a finalist. As for getting picked as the winner,

There's like 15% voting difference between Seananners and Day9 with 3rd place not even coming close (sorry TB, you're still awesome) so it's pretty much going to be who the Academy thinks is the most deserving tweeter. And if I understand the purpose of Twitter at all, it means the person who is most prolific with banal tweets will win.
I really think that any new twitter votes could really afford to bump up the quality of the of the blurb on the off chance they actually read some of them. Because logically, Day9 has much better selling features. Day9's been doing this sort of thing for much longer- podcasts etc. (Vs seamanner who only starting a year ago. Day9's quality of strategy analysis is on an entirely other level than this fellow as well. Either of those point would be much better than Day9 is teh awesome.
Players of all genres - unite! Vote for Day[9] on shortyawards+com! Only 2 DAYS LEFT and we need <300 votes! Sean Plott made almost 250 dailies, he is teaching and entertaining us for over 250 hours, can you give 5 minuts and vote for him? If you can't - cause you need active twitter account - trust me, I checked rules, double time. Find at least one person among your friends who has twitter and make them vote! Do it, or Day[9] will lose his Whole Fucking Base!
It's funny that machinima + black ops crappy videos of some guy running around doing little can get that many subs and more votes than Day9? While i have been watching seananners for a long time together with hutch and other cod guys, i've been following sc for far longer, and the ammount of content all the major cod guys put together doesn't even come close to how much day 9 has offered(maybe if you also put wingsofredemption they will have more actual video time however 1 day9 daily offers so much advice all their videos wouldn't even be able to muster up enough cod tips).

Ermm, yeah they really have said bad things about Seananners, all over the place. Ever been in Day9's chat when he plugs the awards? My god, plus in this very thread we have shitting on the guy. Hardly reasonable or mature on our part.

I just scrolled through 5 pages of this thread, the worst thing i found was "some CoD guy".
There is nothing immature about cheering for the guy you want to win.
But really all seannaners does it work for machinima and makes videos. Day9 doesnt work for anyone, has an hour long show every day, travels around the world promoting esports. There is absolutely no doubt who deserves this more.
Also, day9 has like 20k+ followers, so why so little votes? What are people doing? :S

Seananners has almost 70k followers, so in that respect we should be happy it's as close as it is ><

Haha TB you're absolutely right. You can't call CoD fans whiny little children whilst at the same time being one yourself. Seananners is alright and he might win. No point getting pissy about it; Starcraft just isn't all that popular at the moment.
Apparently if we ever make ill reference to any youtube celeb whom balls Biscuit has a taste for we get smacked in the face with the white knight treatment. It's like he is the keybaord muscle for their youtube posse, acts getting old though.
But that's not what this thread is about (but apparently this page, 16, is). It's a shame how many hours of quality content day9 has put out compared to this CoD guy who is winning this award by sitting in his living room uploading vids while our hero travels to distant lands to give us the best gaming content.

More like people who don't create anything worthwhile have this annoying tendency of taking dumps on people that do. You for instance have a penchant for it as we've seen in the past, that and being a grade-A waste of space. In the whole month you've been registered here you've said nothing of worth. So yes, if I'm pissing people like you off, I'm doing something very right.
Easier to hate than to create.
On a more positive note I'll pimp Day9's voting at the end of today's videos for a final push.

200 to go, we can do this (screw you seananners <3)
Just put it my vote. It would be a huge symbolic victory for Starcraft and eSports if Day9 wins. It's down to around 200 votes, so please take the time to go vote.
Day[9] should do the "Shorty Interview" since the Rules state the following:
Nominees are encouraged to take the Shorty Interview to help both voters and members of the Academy get to know them
Members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences will carefully review the finalists' tweets and Shorty Interview answers (if any) and fill out an anonymous survey with their choices for winners.
It could only help his chances. Hope he reads this!

did day9 do an interview?
He still doesn't seem to have done the interview. I've sent him countless tweets and a PM here on TL to try and get him to do it but I assume he's not seeing them :<
I've messaged everyone I know that is even remotely tech savvy. I've probably recruited about 10 extra votes this way. If everyone did this, Day9 would crush that random guy i've never heard of.
could people during tonight's daily notify day9 in the streamchat, or the admins of the streamchat, that day9 should do that interview? maybe he'll find out about it then and he'll have a much better chance at winning

Indeed, it would be sick if sean got first place, when does it end?
In 10 days on February 11th the voting closes. Then a winner is chosen by a pannel the top 6 from each category. The pannel uses an interview by each candidate to help them decide. Last time I checked Day9 hasn't submitted one yet. I'm sure he knows, so he's probably working on one.
I just noticed something on http://rtacademy.org/ - the panel that choses the final award winners.
There are some pretty famous people on the panel, inc MC Hammer, Alyssa Milano, the founder of Wikipedia etc.
Interestingly one of the co founders of blip.tv is on the panel, considering when you search blip.tv you Day's archives are in the top 10 results, we can probably guess who she's going to vote for :D
I have posted about this on my facebook/twitter several times and mention it in videos here and there. Hoping to get Day9, Totalbiscuit, and myself into the top 6 . (Although I didnt hear about this until a little bit too late hahaha)

GL Sean! ♥
Alright, I just voted for ya Husky. Would be wonderbar to have you all three in top6 indeed.
Does anyone know why Day9 hasn't done the interview yet? It's a pretty critical part of the process and I can't see how he can possibly win without it.

Right now Sean is winning by 48 votes! I'm so happy to see him pulling ahead

Hope we don't get too many of these, they are artifically inflating his votes. If we have alot, Day9 may actually not be #1 as they will be discounted...
Voters must be active Twitter users prior to the start of the competition. Votes originating from new Twitter accounts or accounts used mainly for Shorty Awards voting will automatically be disqualified and will not count toward the rankings
Although I don't have a twitter, and there would be no reason for me to make on for this competition since my vote wouldn't count, I'm getting as many of my twitter using friends to vote in order to make up for myself.
No, people who are just signing up to twitter to vote don't have thier votes counted. You have to be on Twitter for a certain amount of time for the vote to count.

I totally forgot I had a Twitter account until I saw this some weeks ago. I made one ages ago, never used it (just wanted to see what this Twitter thing was) and still had Firefox remembering username and password.
Probably the first and last useful thing I did with it, but it's nice to see that I managed to support Day9 and that in the meantime, he's actually taken the lead in the poll.

Well, I thought you were saying that there were a lot of people signing up to twitter just to vote for Day9, so I said the vote doesn't really count if you just signed on to twitter, you need to have been a twitter member for a while for your vote to count.
From the shorty award rules;

I cant help but think 4,000 votes is not very much for such a huge community. although i am one of those people who simply made a twitter account to vote for him which i didnt know at the time would not count.

I think this is less about the biggest community, and more about which community that have more members using twitter ^^ I honestly don't see the point with twitter =/
Adam Montoyas videos are sometimes heavily reminicent of South Park Stan´s "I learned something today", with the FPS in the background. I can not listen to it without Stan popping up in my head every few seconds. Have anyone else experienced this?
Oh shoot. Nanners is catching back. It's so weird about these voting things. Few days ago, he always had like constantly 300 more than Sean, day through day. And suddenly he stopped at 3k5 and now suddenly got 3k8. Don't know if there's anything fishy here.
Anyways, keep up the spreading words. Let day9 win this!! Ftw!

Yeah I saw he just had a burst of votes too. Turns out he's just made another video asking people to vote for him.
And after watching his most recent video, I have to say the first thing I thought of was Kairo's comment above lol. (It's about his first girlfriend.)

Very much this. The only reason why I could vote was there was some twitter contest way back in Beta to get a Beta key. Got twitter for that and didn't ever go back until now. (Got my beta key another way.) Really never understood the attraction to twitter.
If Husky makes some plug for himself and Day[9] (a video like he did with baneling for charity), it could be efficient. There are 3 times more followers for seaneneneners(ers) than for Day[9]. He can't win the battle alone.
Making a new account won't help, it doesn't count. You need existing accounts to vote. Tell your friends with twitter to vote, Sean really deserves to win (even though I love SeaNanners.)
-_- The other foreign sites are probably small and most likely don't have Twitter.
In case you guys are wondering about Adam's (Sea Nanners) voting spike, he released a new video today (yes I actually do watch his videos, because I R a 12 year ol COD fan), currently at 4K views and expect it to go up and bring in at least +300 votes for him. Ultimately, I'd say if you guys want Day9 on top you might want to do that fast, as in before next week when he releases a new video. If he keeps asking people to vote for him on Day9 daily, he should catch up.
It's my understanding that there is no difference between coming in first and coming in 6th. Isn't there a panel that decides who wins the award from the top 6 nominated?
Edit: It seems I was partially correct. The top 6 do become finalists, but it seems the judging panel does take the votes into account as well. But I would think, as long as Day9 remains close in the vote, it won't matter whether he's first or second. It will come down to who they feel is more deserving.
"To determine the winner in each category, the Academy will combine their own judgment with the outcome of the popular vote"
SeaNanners is funny and I like him, but he's not really do anything. Day9 is actually doing shit to advance eSports. He should beat SeaNanners if it comes down to judges. :D
Day9 really deserves it for being the biggest baller around. The Seananners fans are rather hostile though just reading through youtube comments, calling Day a "Starcraft fag." Such animosity between gamers makes me sad inside.
Made a twitter account just to vote. Please support Sean for the sake of e-sports, guys. This 'Adam' made another video today and all of his Black Ops fanboys are coming out in swarms and voting again.

The final day - Vote ends super close - Judges have to make final decision - Go to Seananner's Youtube account, see his front-page video: Self promotion for Shorty Awards - Go to Day9's Youtube account, see his front-page video: Day9 Daily # 100 - Watch the whole thing - Cry - Day9 victory - ?????? - Esports profit

It says I voted when I went to vote, but nothing is appearing on his page from me. odd. I tried Maybe they didn't accept my vote because I don't use twitter. I've had the account for a long time though. Day9 must win. It would be sad if the only reason he lost is because the starcraft community doesn't use twitter.
It really bothers me that SeaNanners has any chance whatsoever of winning.
Objectively speaking Day9 contributes infinitely more to the gaming community than this other guy has. Subjectively he's charismatic, hardworking, and funny.
I'd even go so far as to say SeaNanners should feel guilty for continuing to plug himself. I'm sure he's looked at his competition, and he must know how much more deserving day9 is. I think it pretty selfish to continue plugging himself despite that.
SeaNanner's a socially awkward penguin with a crappy webcam and he's really good at the most popular video game out there. Does he really believe he deserves recognition for that?
He was No.1 yesterday but I don't know why in an hour or so at night (GMT+1) there was suddenly a flood of votes for SeaNanners comming in and now Day9 fell back to No.2

Don't be so quick to shoot Nanners down. Dude play's COD. Do you know how difficult and tactically rich those games are? Running around yelling 'Hurr, durr grenade!' is harder than it looks. More seriously, I just hope the judges look into both contenders objectively and examine their accomplishments. And god I hope they watch daily 100.

Yea i hope they dont just look at the numbers if it's really close. Watching daily 100 would seal the deal for sure.
It doesnt make any sense how Day9 only has like 4000 votes though. This thread has like 55k views, and day has like 23k twitter followers, so why only 4k votes :S Strange...

hahahah no, husky has no chance. Day 9's contributions to our community blows his banelings song out the water.
Help Day[9]! He is less than 100 votes from number 1 spot, and the current number 1 spot (even if he is also a really nice guy like Sean) is a Call of Duty player!
If we let him win, we let the terrorists win!
If you have an already active twitter account go vote! (New ones don't count)
I have already gotten everyone i know who has a twitter account to vote for Day9, but Day9 is still slightly behind in second place .
I think we all know that Day9 is the most deserving of the award so I implore everyone who have a twitter account to please vote for day9tv. As long as the vote is too close, victory is not assured. We do not really know how the judging will be done so everyone, lets vote for Day9.

I don't imagine the judges will take the time to watch Daily #100. They're really incredibly busy people. A far more simple means of judging seems to take place:
"Judging
Members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences will carefully review the finalists' tweets and Shorty Interview answers (if any) and fill out an anonymous survey with their choices for winners. Academy members are not allowed to vote on categories in which they are finalists or have conflicts of interest
To determine the winner in each category, the Academy will combine their own judgment with the outcome of the popular vote"

Academy members are not allowed to vote on categories in which they are finalists or have conflicts of interest
According to this, there is no reason to even vote for him anymore. He is already in the top 6, and is nominated. The people who actually pick him are not internet people, right?
Sort of like US voting system, we don't really actually vote for the president, just for others to vote for us :/
Is there any way they will check out Day[9]'s Day[9] Daily #100 ? I feel like if a judge were to watch this specific daily all the way through there would be no way that he could lose.
Although I do feel like any TL'ers would be biased in saying this, I still feel Day[9] is much more deserving of a Shorty Award than a random youtuber who plugs himself on his home video where he just shoots people on Black-Ops.
P.S. - Vote! Would love to see him in first place no matter how meaningless placement is. :D
No. It's strictly a twitter based award. They will check their votes and they will get points based on their amount of votes and also based on how active their voters twitter are. Their tweets (current ones) will also be evaluated from what I understand.

If you want to do that, just put this:
I nominate @day9tv for a Shorty Award in #gaming because of this inspirational video: http://bit.ly/aFqrGT
Day[9] has it in the bag anyway, even if that other guy keeps on top due to his legion of mouth-breathing CoD fans. Nobody in the top 6 contributes as much to the gaming community as he does. TB probably comes in second for all the work he puts into WoW, plus his Starcraft 2 stuff.
I may be wrong, but I'm confident that Day will still win the thing overall.
On February 05 2011 11:24 imbs wrote: award doesnt seem very substantial to be honest. im honestly wondering why there is so much hype about it?
Because Day9 needs to win everything he participates in, no matter the lack of substantiality (Is that a word?)
I believe the word is substance, my good man. And yeah, Day( just puts way more time and effort that that Seananners guy, even a non-biased person would realise that.
Haha click on view nominations, the nomination texts for day9 are all like "because his efforts to E-Sports are inspirational." or "he is my favorite comedian, music critic, life coach and game analyst. "
The nominations for Seananners (who is basically yet another Call of Duty youtuber) are more like "he pwn noobs."he very awesome"
Guess which community is propably more educated on average

So true, on Adam's first page:
I voted for Adam Montoya because: "I....yeah...." "He has a beard" "His name is Seannanners" "He told me to" "..."
Although some of the Day9 ones are really aggravating me "Day9 made me do it" - I really hope that they get that reference "Uniden" - I really hope they get that reference
PLEASE give good reasons for Day9, not just "he's the man"
The reason that it is so important that Sean wins is not just for the sake of us all seeing our fav commentator and streamer win something. It's for the greater good of eSports in general. Even if you don't watch the daily religiously, vote for Day9. A vote for Sean is a vote for eSports. The shorty awards do get some media coverage as well, so thats a really good thing.
We (you) can't wait for eSports to happen in the mainstream, you have to proactively make it happen. Voting is one easy way for a person to help the cause.

Lol, he really is running for EPresident of Esports.
It's impossible to keep up with a guy who has ½ a million 15 year olds ready to obey his every command. Whenever Day9 gets ahead, Seananners will just make another video and get more people to vote.
Actually the smartest thing to do, would be for everyone to save their vote for the very last day, then all just vote, putting day9 in first place. That way, our CoD friend wont have the time to order his army to vote for him, and Day9 wins.

One can not outsmart SC2 community. o.o
I have no Twitter account. And getting one now won't allow me to vote. Eh...
The judges actually do look at the reasons you put down for why you vote and weigh them, so putting "I nominate @day9tv for a Shorty Award in #gaming because SeaNanners is a faggot" down as a reason is probably not a good idea. (Yeah, some people have done this)
It would be great if we could somehow consolidate all the votes in the SC2 community. I mean, no offence to the others running, but Day[9] is the only one who stands a chance at this point. Maybe Husky, HD, Tastosis, etc. could help Day[9] out?

If that's true, SeaNanners basically has no votes. What I see from skimming the first page:
"I nominate @SeaNanners for a Shorty Award in #gaming because... HE'S SEANANNERS, THAT IS ALL."
"I nominate @SeaNanners for a Shorty Award in #gaming because... he oozes Awsum Sauce"
"I nominate @SeaNanners for a Shorty Award in #gaming because... he is epic at Black Ops ."
"I nominate @SeaNanners for a Shorty Award in #gaming"

You can vote for as many people as you want, that's why Husky is telling his viewers to vote for day9, totalbiscuit, and himself.

You ugys all realize this will be picked by the twittwe people at the end? I think even if Day wins the vote, another person will win it, my bet is on total biscuit.
wow, after learning about SeaNanner from the Shorty Award, i figured he was alright guy...
But seriously,
he's just begging his viewers for vote, and begging isn't even an exaggeration. Followed by a sappy story about his first girlfriend trying to garner sympathy..

I watch Seananners' videos about as much as I do Day9's dailies. What can I say, I'm pretty boss at Black Ops.
That said, I don't think you're interpreting the video too well. All of Seananners' videos are just like this one, where he just makes small talk while he plays the game. The sappy girlfriend talk is just one of the many random topics that he talks about as he plays the game so I don't think he's trying to garner any more sympathy than usual. He's trying to relate to his viewers just like Day9 does.
I voted for Day9 just like everyone else in this thread, but I don't think it's fair that people are bagging on Senanners for reasons like "Durr cuz it's Black Ops" or about the content of his videos.
Shooters aren't like RTS, you can't comment or critique about the flaws or skills of a player who plays a shooter besides pointing out the obvious. That's why there is no in-depth analysis for Black Ops.
seen some videos of that other kid and the video follows the same simple pattern - beg for the vote and tell an emotinal story or tell an emotional story beg for the vote. But yeah everyone does this kinda - even day9 asks people to vote for him but not as often and not as annoying than that other kid. I wish i had a twitter account so i could vote for day9, but actually iam pretty happy that i wasnt sucked into the whole facebook/twitter/soical network bullshit.
The community is invited to nominate Twitter users for excellence over the past year. Each award recognizes each content creator's entire body of work, not just an individual tweet. Nominations are made by sending a tweet, whether it's through this site or on Twitter.
In February, the nominees will be narrowed down to six finalists in each category. Winners will be determined by a combination of popular vote and by the members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences. The awards ceremony, complete with 140-character acceptance speeches, will be held March 28, 2011 at the Times Center in New York City.
Turns out Day9 won't really need more votes, just a close race and then I think they'll pick him over Seananners (just mention daily #100 in your voting reasons so they look at that)
Made a twitter account just to vote, but my tweet doesn't appear on the "latest tweets" section on day9's shortyawards page, so I assume it auto-identified that my twitter account is new so it ignores it completely?
I voted mainly to include http://bit.ly/aFqrGT (day9 daily #100) into my post knowing that my vote wouldn't be physically counted, but I guess they won't see the text either.
People who still haven't voted but had their twitter accounts for a longer while should try to include that day9 daily #100 link into their tweet along with mentioning that it's an autobiography, to make them more likely to view it and actually watch it despite seeing its length. If they do watch that video, Day9 has this won, surely.
i really can't believe so many people use twitter...i mean i'm like a total alien to all of you tweeters. i literally do not know anyone who uses twitter, and if my friend told me to check out his tweets i'd ridicule him for succumbing to it; i mean, who really wants to know everything about your life? day9 stalkers perhaps, but still for the everyday man twitter seems very unappealing. And yea im sure the SC2 community uses twitter more than the everyday man would, but still I just dont think the Shorty Awards are a fair representation of what most people think. In fact I think it is a rather poor representation. Anyone else with these thoughts? I wish I could vote for Day9 in some other way (a poll that limits 1 vote per IP address perhaps?), but alas i cannot because i simply choose not to publish what i am doing/thinking for the public to know. If I decide to publish my thoughts, I do not want to waste someone's time and would like to find some sort of knowledge, whether it be metaphysical (what is real) or ethical (how to live in light of what is real). And twitter just utterly fails to relay anything meaningful. And lets not even think of the marketing gold that twitter (not to mention Google!) uses for their own benefits, that would just be too subversive and attract unwanted attention. :D
I really like to have a twitter account so that I know when IdrA is streaming, when Artosis posts new videos and so I can see some funny Sean Plott tweets.
Go Go Day9! day9 is bringing intellect and thinking to gaming, whereas adam montoya is behind things like "machinimasports." Adam's keeping it "gaming" and day9 is making it legit
Like it was stated before, if you know anyone who hasn't voted. Beg them to include http://bit.ly/aFqrGT in their nomination tweet.
If any of the judges sees this specific daily (100), and more importantly sees what gaming means to Sean and his followers he will win without a doubt.
-- Also DO NOT make a nomination such as: "I nominate @day9tv because... Seananners is a fag" This will only deter the judges who are viewing the nominations, from taking Day[9] and his followers seriously and will decrease his chances substantially of winning.
If the judges end up seeing daily 100, they won't even need to look any further. Hell, they don't even need to watch the entirety of it. Every single time I've watched the last 5 minutes of that daily, I've gotten teary eyed. Seananners doesn't even have anything close to that amazing.
I had to track down my old twitter account, but I made sure to vote. I used to be a big Seananners fan, but he's incomparable to Day[9]. It's like Big Time Rush taking on Jimmy Hendrix. They might have more modern fans, but the reality is pretty clear for anyone with a truly unbiased opinion.
They probably won't look at his Daily#100 or base their pick on that because again, it's strictly a twitter based award. They will look at the total votes, the voters activity on twitter and the nominees tweets (most recent), as in what they tweet, if they communicate with other and etc. If they would look at content or back story of each nominee, then probably anyone who is a cancer survivor or served in the military in Iraq has a chance of winning or people who produce educational content over entertainment would win, which is not what this is really about.
-- Also DO NOT make a nomination such as: "I nominate @day9tv because... Seananners is a fag" This will only deter the judges who are viewing the nominations, from taking Day[9] and his followers seriously and will decrease his chances substantially of winning.
This isn't making fun of him, but if nominations like that lower your chances of winning, Seananners can't possibly win.... About 1/3 of his nominations are less than 5 words and include the word, "awesome." The rest are indescriptive and just say that he should.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Day9 actually wants to win this then he'll get on his ass and spend 5 minutes to fill out the rest of the Shorty Interview. Of the Top 6 who will get looked at by the panel, TotalBiscuit looks like the only one who deserves to win. Despite the fact that he has like less than 20% of the votes of the two ahead of him in votes, TB actually filled out the entire Shorty Interview. There are 30 questions. Day9 did 5, Seananners and The Sims 3 both did 10, Husky did none and Extra Credit did 3. Not only did TB do all of the questions, he also managed to make the answers humorous, honest and insightful.
I seriously can't understand why people would put so much effort into getting votes but not put forth the infinitesimal amount of effort required to look at the rules, see what it takes to win and fill out the friggin interview.

Actually, even if already voted, you can retweet your vote. The system only counts the latest one. Vote again and plug the video.
Then as many people as possible should retweet their vote, including that 100th daily link into it.
And we need to inform Day9 somehow that he should answer the other 25 questions for the Shorty interview, but I guess he can't really be contacted through twitter/PM through TL as he probably gets hundreds of tweets/PMs per day already.

And why don't you read a post before responding to it? Why in the world would The Shorty Awards offer 30 interview questions if they only wanted 5 of them answered? Obviously quantity of answers isn't the only deciding factor, but this isn't a one or the other situation. There is no reason why Day9 can't satisfactorily answer 30 questions when he already did 5. As is known to everyone who has read the rules, the top 6 get looked at by a panel of judges. As of now, TotalBiscuit is in the top 6 and his Shorty Interview completely blows the competition out of the water because, like I said, he managed to provide quality answers to every question.
I love a Day9 circlejerk as much as the next guy and I know the interview isn't the only deciding factor but why wouldn't Day9 want to give himself every edge he can? It makes absolutely no sense. If you can take off your fanboi goggles, step back from the situation and objectively look at it, then you will realize Day9 is not acting in his best interest here.
Plenty of comments for Day9 are lame as well, what are you talking about?
"Because I'm watching mad Queens and it's hilarious" "because I transition into losing my entire fkin base against Uniden" "Because of uniden FIGHHTTINGG!!"
Oh look, a bunch of injokes that the judges won't understand at all. Not helpful.
LOL Good luck. Adam AKA SeaNanners released another video today and to make competition even more stiff, he's going to be streaming MineCraft with Notch (Creator of MineCraft) on Friday which is when voting ends. So definitely expect a lot of votes to come in for him that day.
I'd vote for Day if I could still register for Twitter to vote but the Shorty Awards made the awful decision to not allow new Twitter accounts to vote.
I'm almost certain Twitter is pissed about that given that a lot of what these tournaments are is a massive sign-up drive for Twitter, or at least that is my theory.

Only 70 votes away now, hopefully we can re-take the lead close to the end of voting so seananners doesn't have time to make another video crying about the awards again.
I personally asked everyone on my facebook, old myspace, and some diablo 2 open ladder sites I used to visit alot back in the day to please vote. I even got on my brothers facebook and asked all his friends lol.
I plugged Day9 on the Heroes of Newerth forums, unfortunately, a lot of people there did vote for Seananners. I told them that to make up for that, you have to vote for Day9, TB and Husky. Plugging stuff is fun.
Lol it only counts 1 of your votes. Also it doesn't really matter what spot in the rankin he gets because the top 6 will make it to the finals and the winner determined by a jury. But sure, it's about honor so we gotta make him #1 nontheless^^

I advice everyone that vote to put something meaningfull in the reason you choose Day9. For example "because Day9 helped me improve my play", "because Day9 is relentless to spread the word about E-Sports". Something along this. If think that a really good reason will make the vote even more valid.
You have celebrity awards that have huge numbers like 2800 votes, politics #1 is at 500, then gaming is at 4500... And gaming nerds try to act like they hate on twitter...

The Shorty Awards honor the best people and organizations on Twitter and social media.
This can include things like ustream, bliptv, youtube, audio podcasts, and etc. It is not limited to strictly twitter content. Yeah the person or organization has to have a twitter account and be actively using it in a meaningful way, but that is not all the reward is for. The Streamy Awards, granted is aimed more at the above listed things, but in my view the Shorty Awards acknowledge all that as well to a degree.

As been mentioned several times before on their site and in this thread. Votes from newly registered accounts, or accounts made purely for shortyawards, don't get counted.
It seems to be bugged, it shows day9 in first place even though Adam Montoya has 12 more votes. Does this means that they are already taking into account if the votes are valid (have a reason after the because)?
When computing rank, votes are automatically weighted based on an algorithm. Votes from real, active Twitter users are assigned higher values. Votes from irregular accounts are assigned low values. The Shorty Awards team also performs human reviews of the votes and a final vote audit occurs after each voting round ends. "Irregular" accounts include ones that use bots, scripts, issue repetitive automatic votes, appear to have been created specifically for Shorty Awards voting, or exhibit other behavior that violates the spirit of the awards. We encourage users to report any suspicious activity to info@shortyawards.com.
I assume that's why we've seen day9 ahead a few times even though he doesn't quite have as many votes.

Lets just hope half a million youtube subs can't buy him an award he doesn't deserve, this one is on the judges to do their homework.
Seananners only has a 100 vote lead after making another video. I think he is running out of steam. So here's plan B.
We do it the Obama way, if you guys don't have twitter accounts, you're going go pester your parents, your cousins, your friends, your teachers and everyone else you know about it. Don't go from door to door in your neighbourhood, that might get you into trouble. But get everyone else to tweet! And tell them about why Day9 is good. Even if he doesn't get the award, you'll be helping esports.
Checklist:

And last, but definitely not least, post it on your facebook status. Everybody vote for Day9 for shorty awards: http://shortyawards.com/day9tv
It really doesn't matter who comes out on top of this popular vote. If the shorty awards people do their research right and actually compare what the two do for their repective communities as well as the gaming scene as a whole, I've no doubt they will pick Sean as the winner. Plus, if they do watch daily #100, they won't have a choice

I think it really does matter. I doubt the judges will do much digging to see who should win. The thing weighed most heavily will certainly be votes. A gap of 100+ would make day[9] very unlikely to win.
I have done everything I can think of including the things Ghanburighan mentioned, I even hijacked my brothers facebook and 2 of my friends, Totalbiscuit has been plugging Day9 on his youtube videos as well as husky and Psy.
It would help if TL could front page this or spotlight or something, anything to get the full attention of everyone on TeamLiquid. Also we could start a new campaign over on reddit? We need ideas and we need to act fast.
We have no idea how the judges will go about voting for this, they may pick whoever is #1 in nominations or they might actually do some research. To be on the safe side we need Day9 at #1. The though that seananners could actually win an award for GAMING over Day9 (PcGamer's Gamer of the Year) really makes me sick.

Yes. TL really needs to spot light this. I'm not sure how I would even get here normally, I had to use the search function to find it, long after it was made. It should at least be moved to SC2 or general or something.

I don't think ~100 votes will matter that much when total votes are around 5000 for each. Then again, they seem to have an algorithm for combining popular votes and judges votes so who knows how significant that lead will be.
Everyone please vote there is only ONE DAY LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!
he is down by more than 100votes PLEASE PLEASE GO TO YOUR FACEBOOK AND UPDATE YOUR STATUS AND TELL EVERYONE TO VOTE FOR HIM. HACK YOUR FRIENDS ACCOUNT AND TELL ALL HIS FRIENDS TO VOTE DAY9!!!!!!!!

Maybe someone could PM a mod or admin?
I messaged Chill but I'm just a newbie here don't expect any results. Spotlight and/or front page please any mods/admins that read this? We have very little time.
If you didn't need to have a twitter account that was already active, I think this would not have been a competition at all. Either way, I am pretty sure who has the most votes does not automatically win, and we all know Day9 deserves it the most.

Well we are going to lose the "popular" vote, but it will be up to the judges to decide the winner out of the top 6.
I've looked at the judges and they all seem to be intelligent successful people (mostly) do you think Alyssa Milano is a starcraft fan LMAO. I also noticed one of the judges is the Co-founder of Blip.tv (somewhere day9 is very well known) lets hope for humanity to prevail, although it has let me down more times than I can remember.
Good luck Day9, hope you win, we tried our best and you deserve it win or lose just knowing that is a great thing in itself.
I just don't understand how Seananners can be nr 1, his videos are so boring and I just don't see his appeal :/
I have subscribe to seananners, and he's just a very nice guy, but he in no way deserves to win over Day9, just look at the little title that seananners has and compare it to Day9's
I am baffled. It's like every corporate shtick asks for you to use Twitter or Facebook. As if I'm not stuck up enough. No, I refuse to use such egotistical, corporate stalker-like hoopla just to vote for Sean. I really hope they find another way to legitimatize such contests.
I'm kind of surprised how few actually voted O.o Considering there can be like 12k on day9s LIVE daily events, that are broadcasted at 4 in the morning in Europe =/ So sad

seriously this section is underviewed and a thread that was started in SC2 general tonight got closed.
This guy has been a hero of the community for what? almost a decade? Absolutely no one has given so much back and yet so rarely asked for anything in return. No one has the passion for e-sports that Sean does - yet without that passion tl as we know it would not exist.
Its unfathomable that even though day[9] has said he wants this award Sooooo badly and is so close to achieving it that this hasn't been spotlighted, and that a thread which could be viewed more widely at the crucial moment has been shut down. I'm actually shocked.

A decade? Oh boy. All the craze started with his commentary on the Chill versus Combat-Ex series and then came the dailies. People always wanted more. I couldn't believe how amped up he was to be casting those games between Chill and Combat-Ex. Honestly I thought Sean was high as a kite because I've never heard or seen him so psyched out for a match. Then again most guys from the BW community absolutely hated Combat-Ex and everything he stood for at that time, so I guess it should come as no surprise.
Sean's always been a great guy though. I've known him for a really long time and I must say he was always the life of the party. His contributions are nothing short of extraordinary; although, I do have beef with some of his expressions/sayings like 'blunder' have spread like a wildfire. o;

Here's to Day[9]. SC would not be as awesome without you.
Finalists for this category will be announced on Tuesday, February 15 while we audit the votes.
The Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences will use a combination of criteria to select the winner from among the finalists, including the number of votes, the reasons given in nominations, answers to the Shorty Interview (which you can still take here) and the content of the finalists' tweets.
This is good news for us for many reasons, just read the reasons on nanners nominations. The Audit also means they will weed out accounts made just for voting ect. and by judging from what I have read on seananners channel there are alot of these, also people voting multiple times on multiple accounts so his numbers are more than likely greatly inflated.
EDIT: Also it seems you can endorse him now (You can still submit a tweet to show your support of anyone, but it won't count toward the rankings.) Just mention the daily #100 or his dedication to e-sports and please don't just put because HE IS TEH AWESOME! Leave that for seananners fans.

All the judges really have to do is watch daily 100.
But I will admit its frustrating to see this CoD youtube caster get the #1 spot. All the guy did was take advantage of a mainstream title and milk it for his own profit. It blows my mind that he thinks he deserves this award.

Indeed! If he really thinks he deserves the award more than day9, he is very arrogant imo. I've been following both for a while and this is almost rediculous to compare both.
This might be bad for gaming reputation to promote a game that isn't even eSports.

I think you missed the point.
Yeah sure, we all like Day[9] here but don't be so snobbish about his competitor in the popularity contest just because he casts a mainstream title?
" All the guy did was take advantage of a mainstream title and milk it for his own profit."? Really? Because casting a mainstream game means you're taking advantage of it, as we all know(!) and casting games free of charge, man, what a moneywhore.
EDIT: I think I should stay on topic rather than start an argument, so fingers crossed for Day[9]. Even if I think his dailies go on for far too long, I can't deny how much he has done for StarCraft.
This award is about the use of real-time and social media (like Twitter). They award people who utilize these tools cleverly and produce content while integrating it with said social media.
This is NOT an award about whose merits for gaming are greater.

You obviously don't know much about youtube. This guy is making hundreds of dollars for every video he uploads just from ad revenue. Someone with 500k+ subscribers can make well over 100k a year if he consistently puts up videos. Which isn't hard when your frapsing yourself play a video game.
More importantly, what has this guy done besides upload videos to youtube? Day9 has attended and casted countless tournaments, organized the king of the beta tourny, and is involved in numerous e-sports projects (most of which are not announced). When it comes to the development of the gaming community and "social media", I don't see how Seananners can say with a straight face that he has contributed more.

What other CoD caster have you seen that has anywhere near as many votes? 0.o he's obviously doing well and people like and enjoy watching him. I do agree that Day[9] deserves it but theres no point in getting mad over it.
And he has contributed alot, seriously, he has a hell of alot of videos 193 on his account and more on machinima. just because you(i'm assuming)don't like cod, doesnt mean that he hasn't put a lot of effort into it.... and are you seriously suggesting that he started making videos thinking that he would make enough money to live on? really? hmm...
even so..... Day[9] KHHHHHHHWAAIAAIIIIIIIITITTTTTINGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At the end of the day, given that I only watch day9, whoever puts more effort for the community really deserves this award. In day9's case, I personally feel that he tries to help the community while trying to entertain us at the same time, and it's not a show where he only shows himself winning or losing.

I'm not asking how many videos he's uploaded nor do I care if he knew how profitable it would be. I can list off at least 10 other casters that have uploaded just as many videos and are also doing well for themselves.
What I am asking is what separates this one youtube caster from all the others. What has he done to promote gaming other than upload clips of himself playing.
Next time please address my points instead of responding with an elongated version of "you mad bro?".
Ok, lets rampage the next vote thing in order to get our beloved Day9 on top, I want to hear his speech on esport and gaming in front of other celebrities ^^.
Guys remember now that nominations are done, you should 'endorse' day9 now. Basically, vote again >.>
Make sure to make what you say count. It's fun to put the jokes in, but if they actually read a few of the posts, if they're met with heartful words, it may help.
I put: I endorse @day9tv in the Shorty category #gaming because he inspires me to be proud of things I love
Any information on when the winner will be announced? I couldn't find any information on that apart from the mentioning of a Shorty Awards Ceremony, but that is not until March 28.

Well that's lame...so is CoD. Minecraft is cool, but what is there to talk about in Minecraft? "Hey, this guy is putting this block on another block, Oh!!! It's a sprite from Final Fantasy 1! It should be completed in a couple hours! This is so intense!"

No, because Day[9] actually talks about the game he's playing. Seananners talks about utter shite while there is a video in the background of him going 41-1 on CoD (which anyone can do btw). When I played CoD, I used to watch other youtubers, but not seananners because I find him extremely annoying.
Don't we already know who won the gaming category because preliminary results showed Machinima winning? It wasn't close so unless Day9 got a sudden surge of votes at the end he should have lost, though that was a long time ago when I checked on the results.

Nah, winner is picked from the top 6 of the votes. For example the winner in humor was 3rd in votes, fashion was 5th etc.

I facepalmed when I heard Adam Montoya, and then facepalmed even more with the stupid minecraft video...
I've watched plenty of Seananners video's and of course a ton of Day9's videos, and I'm pretty sure that the judges don't exist. Seananners winning "Gaming" doesn't make any sense. I suppose this all isn't that big of a deal because nobody really cares, but it does make me a little sad in side to see someone so deserving of something not get it.

Agreed. Seananners isn't exactly traveling the world to commentate tournaments and I doubt he does daily streams that hit 10k viewers.
Edit: Hell, YouTube put Day[9] in their top 10 for people who might hit $100,000 a year with YouTube soon. Day[9], not Seananners.
Is anyone really surprised? I very much doubt they put any effort into judging the Gaming category and simply went off of vote/twitter followers count.
Adam just doesn't have the superstar personality that Sean has. He's kind of funny, but in an awkward this gets old fast sort of way. Day9 on the other hand could be a fucking comedy superstar if he wanted to. Obviously this has nothing to do with gaming, lol, but I bet Sean would have at least given the audience a laugh.

You're right, obviously. But if they read the votes like they said they would, they would have seen that 90% of seananners voters reason was "because seananners told me too."

2011 is the year of esports ANYWAYS :D :D :D
And besides, it's monday!
I don't see a funday monday on the calendar though. Glad to see Day9 isn't upset, not like I would expect him to be.

We love you, day9. What you have done for esports is colossal. Keep it up!
Even tho Ive followed the seabannana man for a really long time, i would agree with the consensus that Day9 is so much more deserving, what exactly do Adam do? He plays a game, against public players usually 13-15 year old kids, who are relatively new to the game, and quite easy to dominate, he then slaps it into vegas, starts recording himself talking about his life, or something else not related to the game, not really giving out tips, or teaching anything.
Now, Blops is a competitive game, its gonna be on the MLG tour, and if there was a day9 of the blops community that did what day9 does, ie, travelling the world commentating, promoting esports, being a baller, producing content that takes HOURS and HOURS of work, instead of what nanner does wich i can put together in around 15 minutes, and then add 45minutes for the rendering and uploading to youtube i might agree that the person would also be deserving.
Day9 has been doing this for quite some time, the only thing that makes seananners special is he jumped on the right bandwagons, codmw2 when it was new and exciting and he jumped in on minecraft just as it exploded. Oh well, i hope you win next year Sean, you are definitely getting my vote again next year, no matter what.

Are you joking good sir? Because when it comes to Artosis vs Day9 on who's doing more... who really cares? They're both putting their heart and soul into it.
rawrrrrr this is stupid! almost as stupid as me thinking each twitter account could vote as many times as they wanted, so I voted at least 70 times before I found out that only one counts.

yeah, thats true, actually all casters/players pour their heart out into making E-sports happen, because seriously, look, all of these guys try their hardest to play sc2/other competitive games and try to make Esports into something more mainstream.. not just on the internets =)

seriously though, why do you need to take basically a fan thread and turn it into a mud throwing competition
Because forums are about discussion. This might as well be twitter if all we do is post about how much we love everybody. If there is criticism, I will post it. I won't hold back because of what he's done for the community.

Neither is being a hivemind to a person who commentates a game he isn't even good at. He was good at broodwar and that's when I liked him. Now he is just teaching the masses how to be competent. He is now an HDStarcraft or a Husky. He is not special. Artosis, however, knows his shit and he gets that information out.

Are you kidding me? I've learned FAR more from Day9 about Starcraft 2 than HD or Husky combined. HD and Husky are only commentators. Day9 is a commentator AND he teaches people throughout the week with his dailies.
why are you guys bickering over who's "better" than the other? all 4 of them are great personalities that are doing their best to raise the profile of sc2. if you actually listen to any of them, they hate it when people make these obnoxious and pointless comparisons.

He's taught common knowledge to the masses. That is what HD and husky do, and all of the other casters that aren't really good at what they do. There has been a single daily since he started doing sc2 that I learned anything from, and that was the 2v2 one because I am not a 2v2 player. Day9 knows next to nothing about sc2 compared to what he knew about brood war.
He shouldn't be praised as the best of anything he does because he is just Husky or HD with a different voice and a bit more analysis. In this regard, Artosis is the better caster. He is the better player. Why isn't he getting nominated for this award?
Adam just doesn't have the superstar personality that Sean has. He's kind of funny, but in an awkward this gets old fast sort of way
Holy shit. Is this true or what?
Seriously I've been watching a great many of his videos and I almost fell asleep several times. His humor seems like its stuck in this preteen funk, existing somewhere between immature and downright flat/boring. What exactly does he do that advances awareness in his neck of the woods?
All I've seen is video after video of uninspired, flat commentary with almost zero voice inflection and as a previous poster said, offering nothing of value with regards to tips/strategies for improving at the game.
Everything is exactly the same, and nine times out of ten it seems like he's playing on random public servers against people who have no clue what they're doing.
Perhaps its the nature of MW2 in general that the lack of depth in the game itself causes the material produced to lack depth as well. I just feel that with the amount of youtube hits the guy gets, he could be producing much higher quality content. But his viewers are his viewers, if thats the kind of content that gets him popularity, kudos to him.
I just don't see how any of the above compares to the amount of intellectual complexity, thoughtfulness, and planning Day[9] pours into each and every single daily, even when he may not feel like it or is pressured by the rigors of Graduate school.
Call me insane. I'm probably biased, and should follow Day's example of good sportsmanship, but I still think he got robbed by people who didn't do their research.

Artosis didn't even try to get nominated. I'm pretty sure you have to try to be nominated to be considered.
And what's with your repeating of "teaching the masses" over and over? There's a reason so many people recommend his dailies. Yes, maybe the dailies didn't teach much to some amazing old pro like you, but tons of people have learned and benefited from them. You can't speak for them. Oh, the way you imply that he only knows as much as HD or Husky is hilarious.

Day9 gets almost 7000 viewers per daily he does. Not to mention the thousands of views his VODs get. Whether Artosis is a better player or not is not an argument for a Shorty Award.
To be fair guys SeaNanners is a great guy and he's almost unique in the FPS community. We all know that day9 is a god amongst men () but SeaNanners is at least a man among chimps.

Just because you are so damn good at this game and know all there is to know does not mean the rest of us can't gain some worth out of a Day9 Daily; Day9s knowledge and casting ability far surpasses HD and Husky. But that is just my opinion. What Day9 does in his dailies is far more valuable than simply "casting" a game. If you can't see that, then it is obviously not for you - and trying to argue he is nothing special in a thread dedicated to him winning an award is a little bit ridiculous..
In terms of doing stuff for the community; Day9 literally flies across countries while doing a thesis at college to give to the SC2 community. His dailies cater to THOUSANDS upon thousands of viewers.. Can you imagine what he can accomplish once he is finished studying!? Anyway; there is always one..

Hey RoieTRS. Please lean back from your screen, take a deep breath as you read the title of this thread. Think about the beach on a sunny day, your feet in the warm sand, the sea breeze caressing you, and the sound of the waves crashing onto shore rocks you to sleep. You are getting sleepy. You don't want to post here anymore. You've posted enough on tl today. You are getting very sleepy. It's been a long day. Goodnight RoieTRS

You tried to argue that: "Artosis does the most by a long shot" then you go on to criticize Day[9]'s dailies, and the fact that he teaches people the basics in Starcraft. What may seem like common sense to you could be seen as completely foreign to a Starcraft newbie. All HD and Husky do is play by play commentary, but Day[9] actually analyzes the games and breaks them down for those less competent in Starcraft. He informs the Starcraft newbies how to to and execute stable solid play; teaches them that it's a good thing. He even sets up community activities like funday monday, and team monobattles (which are a blast if you haven't tried them); encouraging people to think outside the box and be more creative. Not to mention outside of his dailies he flies to almost every freaking major event to cast it, FOR FREE.
I love both artosis and Day[9], the "casting-Archon" does a wonderful job commentating the GSL and I think they are the best casting pair. Artosis does a great job analizing while Nick makes "Tasteful" jokes and creates hilarious back-story for the critters on the map (wouldn't have it any other way). That being said Artosis also does interviews and game analysis, both of which are quite good. The content Both day and artosis produce is good, but Day[9] just makes more content. Content that helps a wider range of people; this is why I beleive he is more fit for the shorty awards then Artosis (but not by a long shot).
Day[9] was very competent in SC:BW. Although he doesn't play professionally anymore; he still spends a lot of time analyzing games (his dailies), casting all of those events, and being around good players (form the events he goes to); unless he took a sudden and hard bash to the head, his brain is the same one that understood SC:BW on such an deep level, why couldn't that same brain understand Starcraft II?
I think your are being rash in your judgments of Sean, and to be totally honest--quite unfair about it. Sadly, that Seananners guy took the Shorty award anyway
Wait, how does he know that Day [9] isn't very good at Starcraft 2? Because he shows content that a lot of people appreciate and thus that is the extent of his knowledge?
Is this a joke? Is this whole thread a joke? Artosis does the most by a long shot - a LONG shot...
seriously though, why do you need to take basically a fan thread and turn it into a mud throwing competition
Because forums are about discussion. This might as well be twitter if all we do is post about how much we love everybody. If there is criticism, I will post it. I won't hold back because of what he's done for the community.
'OMG Artosis is way better' does not constitute discussion.
If I recall pros sometimes get advice from day9. I'm pretty sure huk does at least.

Classic Day9....
It's a shame that Day didn't win. I think it's pretty clear he deserved it and the only reason why he didn't win is because the Judges and the gaming community at large doesn't yet understand the significant of what Starcraft 2 is becoming. It just means there is more work to do in 2011!

He isn't immune to critisism because he does a lot for the community. Defend him for things he does right, not things he can't do because he is too busy with school.
In no way is he immune to criticism; but what does he do badly? Criticise him please? But no matter what your criticisms are there are 10,000 people per day that would disagree with you.. Making you the vocal minority.
My criticism is that he is teaching what is common sense to any competent sc2 player which is not what he did in scbw. The reason he is like that is because he isn't that good at sc2. Artosis is better. also I'd disagree with being the vocal minority because trash like hiveminding day9 is all that is posted in this site anymore.
Why are you posting this crap in this thread? L2commonsense

Some Call of Duty / Minecrafter (and others) commentator. I still say Day9 should've won! Arg.
It's utter stupidity as Adam Montaya does not even commentate about the game itself but rather about his daily lives and his life philosophies.
The shorty award's judge panel does not have a single person who actually has any knowledge about gaming at all. I saw this coming as Day9's main base is Blip.tv, not youtube. They likely just logged to youtube, compared the view rate, clicked the highest viewed videos and that's it.
Oh well, whatever. It's not like Shorty Award is prestigious. How many years has Twitter been popular for?
Sean, in our hearts, you will always be #1!
Next year, we should begin the campaign ahead of time, as Shorty Award only register pre-made accounts.
This is retarded tbh. Let's make Minecraft/CoD videos and get an award. 4 out of the top 6 deserved it more than him, with Day9 on top of course. And WTF was that acceptance video?
Btw, the Gaming award starts at 1:22:40 on the VOD in case you're wondering.

I watched about 20 minutes of the award ceremony and seeing the stream of self involved people tweeting to the right made me want to gouge my eyes out. I can't imagine a group of people whose opinion means less than theirs.
Sorry you lost, Day9, but the Shorty Awards and everything involved really is a pointless endeavor and nothing you do, even the Funday Mondays, is pointless.

He doesn't have the time. The Daily, casting events, and school are his priorities, and I think it's taking away from his sheer playing time to get the experience necessary to have the same insight he did in BW. Of course he still is one of the best because no one else seemingly has the time to match him either. Artosis does what he does because of the huge amount of hours he puts it when we don't see him; his stable job with relatively low time commitment helps that.
But no one could do a full time Masters programme, have community involvement as much as he does, have a life, AND play to a progamer level in this game.
Hopefully when he graduates he will have the time to get that experience again.
Once I read up on how they chose winners I decided to not go or even look into who ended up winning. Sean should have won it for sure, I just wanted to break into top 8 for fun.
It really is a big joke. I expect there to be a real internet awards within the next 3-5 years, and thats when people who deserve it will dominate.

At least the starcraft community has no problem gouging who their heroes are!

I just wish they got a forum where we can complain at.
Alas, the judge panel does not even care about community opinion, much less set up a forum where they may have to spend their invaluable time listening to them.
I swear they just go to youtube and compare the view count or something.

Wait, how exactly did they choose the winners?
I'm guessing they just look at the nominee's twitter and interview with some random background checks...? Not exactly sure and the site dosen't say much.

Last year at Blizzcon, every time there was a lull in commentary between the countdown and the game start, my friends and I would shout "BEAR SEMEN."

Accepting your premise that he is not good, and only teaches what you view as common sense to the masses... I'm having a difficult time following how you come to the conclusion that he shouldn't win the shorty award. Because I'd imagine a player teaching basic things to noobs would be just about exactly what they'd be looking for in a person to give the award to.
If you look at general trends among who are praised or awarded for things they do out in the world, you're most likely going to find it is people who are helping the masses, or the average person. For example, a prominent musical director who begins a program to help teach music to young students is much more likely to be praised with an award than a prominent musical director who teaches advanced musical lessons to the already elite.
You make a correct statement at the end with Artosis deserving to be nominated, but that does not give any more validity to your overall point you were making.
The awards ridiculous ambiguity makes the whole argument over this seem kind of pointless, though . Hopefully they'll make their purpose more clear in the future.

I'm pretty sure he isn't.
Day9 is at a top 200 NA level, but he didn't have the time to ladder that much since he had his school work.
How do you know?
I think it's a pretty fair assumption to say that he isn't a total scrub, but we know nothing of his current skill level. Last time I saw him play was the game vs tasteless where he did a retarded mistake, think it was back in beta or something and since then I'v never seen him play a real game even though I'v watched a lot of his content.
Anyways, just seems like wild guessing when saying he's a top 200 NA player and you just make it look like it's a widely known fact.

Several people who know his smurf accounts have confirmed that Day9 plays at a high masters level.
The guy was good at BW so he must have godly mechanics, and it's pretty clear that he has a good understanding of the game strategically.
If you really want view on Day9's insight and how much he knows the game, I recommend this week's SotG where he doesn't have to follow his D9D mindset of presenting broad, simple, but important ideas of RTS games.
The only reason why I think they would have chosen SeaNanners is because of the tweeting aspect of the competition. I mean, after all...it's about what's done through Twitter..interacting with the community, giving insider looks, etc.
In terms of making esports grow though, Day9 is DEFINITELY more deserving.

Naw, some guy called seananners won. I watched a little of the dude and I guess he's good at the game, but mostly he talks about random stuff. But in the meantime, Day9 has been on Forbes 30 Under 30, so guess he wins anyways.
Maybe all those late registry Twitter accounts will help out? Last time we had a mass of people joining in, but they were discounting votes from recently made Twitter accounts. So maybe those year old twitter accounts will come in handy.

He's a video blogger, who just so happens to put some random Call of Duty gameplay in the background, that's all. And that's exactly what the other hundreds of CoD YouTube heroes do, talk about unrelated shit and label it as 'gaming'.
