The subject of this thread is not a license to roll out your inaccurate, misinformed, poorly conceived, tired, and downright offensive theories about race relations.

Any body who bms should have no right to say anything. We all bm and when we get angry we forget who we are or what we represent. It happens to everybody.
I've never liked orb. I refuse to watch events when he commentates them. He's just not a cool guy. The fact that he uses obscene language could make him worse, the fact that he refuses to admit he uses obscene language makes him stupid. Regardless, it doesn't affect me because I don't like him.

It's not ok for anyone to use racist slang's despite how common it is...
Shame on you for generalizing a whole group of people based based on the vocal minority who (somehow) think this sort of behavior is ok. I assure you though there are many more white americans who do not approve of this than do. I'm sure those in defense of these actions (not on whether this was orb or not) probably act in a similar way and, even though they know it's immature and bigoted, it reenforces that other people do it too so it's normal and fine when it really isn't it.
I don't know why people even BM on ladder. I mean I play a lot and I get very angry sometimes too. But then I leave the game with a "gg" and smoke my cigarette, check the replay and know that it was my own stupidity to lose that game and not something I should blame my opponent for. Seeing so much BM (from my opponents, in the Awesome/Confusing BM Thread and also from people like Orb) makes me wonder if I am the minority in that case. In my opinion it's just very childish to offend or insult other people, especially when you lost because of your own faults.
As much as I disagree with this comment, I'm just going to add this as an fyi. This was the song he was referring to in his last sentence (VERY NSFW)
Furthermore, I don't think "nigga" or "nigger" or any sort of racist expletive is acceptable. I mean come on, TL and SCReddit basically got Katu fired for poking fun at a stream cheater.... It would be hypocrisy if they just let this Orb shit slide.
Saying "gay" as a negative doesn't make you a homophobe any more than it makes you a sociopath. Gay also means happy, so if you call something gay negatively it doesn't mean you hate happiness. And if you call someone a nigger (especially someone whose race you can't possibly know) it doesn't mean you hate black people. .
"Um....you guys as a white person this doesn't hurt MY feelings therefore it isn't a problem!"
This is literally your argument.
I'm not white, so now you're a racist for assuming my behaviour made me white.
You see how stupid this is?
That is not "literally" my argument. My argument is that people need to care less about the particular words used and more about the context and situation because that's all that matters- after all, it's nearly impossible to find a rap song without that very word in it, even if its a non-black rapper - this is because context matters above all.

He's a "professional" commentator, if you want the e-sports scene to be taken at least SOMEWHAT seriously from the rest of the world, there needs to be a higher standard than this (this, also referring to the countless people in this thread saying who cares).
If he was some no-name on ladder, then yeah I wouldn't care.. but guess what? He isn't some no-name. He is, like it or a not, a representative of OUR community because of the viewers he gets. So an example needs to be set by EG, or whoever, so that it doesn't continue and our community improves. That said, let the guy continue commentating.
What the fuck? Hip-pop and rap are so much bigger then eSports and use the word all the time, your logic is fail.
My logic is fail? You realize that NO "white" singers or rappers (orb is white) say the N word. Guess why? They're professional and know that if you're white and you use the N word all the time, it's racist.
again for the derps that read this and will rage, I'm not saying a huge deal should be made. but he is a representative of our community and to say it doesn't matter is also very insensitive and doesn't look good.
CLASSIC CASE OF REVERSE RACISM Nice double standards brohan.
Reverse Racism doesn't exist. Racism marginalizes a minority. It is by definition impossible to marginalize the majority.
What.
Firstly, this is patently wrong. If someone does something to someone based on their race (generally referred to as discrimination), then it's racism. If I give jobs to black people, but refuse to give jobs to Hispanics, that's racism. If I beat up a Chinese kid because he's Chinese, that's racism. Majority/minority dynamics do not enter into it.
Even if you were only referring to institutional racism, then it doesn't matter who is the majority or minority. If an institution is complicit, then they are involved in oppression.

It's childish like hell still... He is so stiupid:D
The fact that you think the term "gay" can be used to describe something you don't like is inherently homophobic.
no it's not what the fuck.
This is a real problem, the internet all of a sudden became super uptight and politcally correct.
News flash, people make their own defintions for words all the time. We use rape and gay and fuck and whatever else in a totally different context within gaming compared to the outside world.
Saying "gay" as a negative doesn't make you a homophobe any more than it makes you a sociopath. Gay also means happy, so if you call something gay negatively it doesn't mean you hate happiness. Sorry this isnt 1950, popular culture changes the definition of words very quickly and if you get hung up on one meaning from one time period, you have to be sensitive to a LOT more words than just nigger and faggot.
This isn't 1950? Because your post sure seems like it is. It's amazing that people think context is the magical tabula rasa for a word. Hint: it's not
Uh, okay, so we just have magic blacklisted words than always offend people now? Alright, well, I'm going on a witch hunt then. Anyone who has said the word "Nazi", I will campaign against. Anyone who has said "Faggot", I'm making them lose their job. "Jew" or "Nigger"? Fuck yeah, I'm getting you fired. "Rape" offends me regardless of context too, so that's out. Gay in any context, absolutely out of the question. "Hell" or "Damn" should not ever be present in any cast or stream either, they are curse words after all.
Where do you draw the line? or do you just draw the line at "nigger" because that's the only offensive word in the world by your arbitrary standard?
I draw the line at those derogatory words you used that aren't choices. It's a choice to be a Nazi so that's trite but fair game. Damn or Hell don't refer to any specific group of people so they aren't even comparable.
All the other words you listed are off limits...is that really a revelation/surprise for you?

It isn't about ruining his life its about sending a message that this community will not stand for racism or homophobia. We will not tolerate it.
Using the word "faggot" is not homophobia, it's just an unfortunate result of society developing in a way that made this word into a popular insult
You're wrong. You might not be homophobic, but you're at least ignorant.
Edit: Misinterpreted your point.
I said using the word faggot doesn't make you automatically homophobic. You tell me I'm wrong. Then you tell me it doesn't necessarily mean you're homophobic. You're not making much sense

Klondi lol Racism can go any way, doesn't matter if it's minority or majority, it's judging someone on their race/colour of skin.
And for some reason racism always seems to affect minorities and never seems to bother majorities. That might have SOMETHING to do with the fact that if a minority runs around screaming about the majority is bad they...get put in jail. But the majority faces no such consequences.
So sure, you can theoretically say that racism can run both ways, but in reality it doesn't.
