Interesting point. Since there were literally no witnesses to the destruction of the Marley ship(s) then it could be that they assumed an attack by the first king. Perhaps they decided not to anger him any further and pulled back before their shifter invasion? Also, I feel like everyone is sorely underestimating Marley right now. Please keep in mind that: 1. 20 years ago they already had ~WW2 era technology, meaning that if they don't have nukes right now then they at least have semi-automatic rifles, bomber planes, mortars, mounted machine guns, frigates... you name it. 2. The shifters themselves are already on their way out. The reason Marley wanted to invade Paridis is to prepare for the future where titan powers are irrelevant. 3. Our main heroes are literally bringing knives to a gun fight and their 3d gear is useless against humans. Pretty sure that in the next chapter, they will see Marley ships and planes coming in which will start to bomb the fuck out of the island.
While the Marley did have superior technology, there's no guarantee that they advanced at the same rate our world did. I wouldn't be too quick to assume too much development. I'd wager that they'd be at about the same level now as they were before as I don't think there's actually a narratively plausible way that the islanders would be able to fight back otherwise.
The survey corps do have access to the gun-type manouver gear that Kenny's men used to hunt them down. I'm sure they've manufactured some more to some degree at least. Probably not enough to arm an army but at least enough for the important survey corps characters I'm betting.
Also, this may not be important at all but it doesn't look like the Marley have manouver gear tech. They might have lifted it now since their spies have returned but who knows.

unlikely, we know the warriors were given the tools to create more titans as needed since they titanified a town that one time so most likely they were operating completely on there own and given control of how many titans were running around rather then an unknown amount arrive sporadically

Anyone read the new chapter yet?
Looks like we are somewhere in between World War I and World War II in terms of technology for the mainland. And, it looks like Zeke and Reiner are on their death beds. Shame, I kind of hoped for a grudge match.
I also love how the Marley use the Eldians as expendable military in the trenches, lol. I wonder if they give them titan syrum injections to use in order to zerg rush the enemy as "pure titans" if they get overwhelmed. Kind of sad, thinking how at any moment your commander can tell you to commit sudoku and become a zombie, and if you don't, your friends that do will eat you alive. I love this series.

no way, a pure titan has enough chance of attacking there own troops then enemy troops and the chick had to convince her CO to let her do the suicide run so its not like the eldians are treated as literally expendable there just troops on the front line
is Ymir dead then...? she got her titan form when they were kids so she should be around 13 years

The chick was a warrior candidate which takes a lot of time and money to train.
Also it would be way easier to clean up pure titans than seige a fortified position with machine guns and tanks, imo. Especially with a warrior titan.
EDIT:
Also, in the chapter there appears to be something akin to international law since it was mentioned that it's illegal to kill people in civilian clothing... which is interesting because it implies that the AOT world has had something like a Geneva Convention and perhaps even has a League of Nations of sorts? This could also imply that there have been other World Wars which would cause something like this to come about. It makes me wonder if Marley was the aggressor like Germany in the past or if they play a role similar to the US - a country that was pulled into the war and wound up winning. So many damn reveals and possibilities lol.

where do you get all that? xD
you know, for me, this is before the current time line. This is where all the dipshit haters can fuck off for saying the writer is shit at the story - this chapter is exactly how the writer is able to take the manga to another height by using all the developed plot devices.
I hope i am right here lol:
+ Show Spoiler +In current timeline we know there are 3 factions: Bertolt, Annie (and Reiner) = this is unknown faction X Marley = the outside world's empire Paradis = Eldians isolated island
#91 is the event happened before current time line, Marley is fighting an unknown faction (X, or related to X) by using eldians soldiers. And i bet among those young kids are actually bertolt or reiner or people related to them. It is mentioned that colosus titan and female titan have been 'lost' to the enemy (ie the X). So all adds up, those kids in #91 survived and joined X, which later became colosus and female titans.
Otherwise, i would be baffled at what is the point of having the kid 'lost memory' at the start of this chapter. That kid must have become the coordinate (attack titan) later, attack titan users can share memories across the past, present, and future. See my last post (last 2 posts i cant remember now).
otherwise, if that is reiner on the plane (looks older), then this happens after #90 then i dont know what to make of it goddamn it.
|
They said the war started 4 years ago after they lost the female and colossal titans. This happens after everything. Also that's Reiner with a beard.
|
i think i saw this in an m night shyamalan movie once
|
soo... why did reiner change his name to gllard or w/e
or was the titan in the last panel not reiner? if so what is it? oh was it the "jaw" titan?
meh... be more creative

trench was literally full of warrior candidates, and at least one warrior, eldians go to war the ones who distinguish themselves get a titan

okay im confused as hell, i thought i was kinda getting all the bloodlines the betrays the history but than kurger from the past mentions mikasa and armin??? er...wtf. Like everything before that was kinda...still within the fiction of that universe even with the serums makes the titans rather than "god" or the "devil" but time travel seems to be way out of it.
|
Not complaining, but I caught up after a year from SnK, and this feels like that one M. Night Shyamalan movie haha.

Bomb ass chapter. Confirms the theory of Marley using the pure titans as shock troops. Looks like they had them partially transformed? The people looked like they were all lobotomized and then Zeke's yell completed their transformation? Interesting.
Also, lol, if Reiner survives another death I think that will be like the 5th time.
|
|
still think this is the past rather than future lol, goddamn it writer, what are you selling?
edit: i read it again, i am pretty sure it is talking about the past of the rayner's faction, because in the end of the chapter they said they need the coordination. the user of armor titan is named goddamn Raynar (so one of the kids is the Raynar that we know later).

Don't know about you guys but this is pretty clear to me that the current incident is happening 3-4 years after the operation to retake Wall Maria. Because Marley failed to retrive the Progenitor Titan and its coordinate ability, losing Collosus and Female Titan in the process, the Middle East country felt that their power declined and started a war with Marley to challenge their dominance. Zeke and some Eldians said just that. Also Reiner has memories of the time he was a solider on the wall. Even though Marley won the war, they still had to spend 4 years to do so and their Titans are not as effective and dominant as they were. So it's essential to start going after the Progenitor Titan again because its powers are some of the most broken shit I've ever seen and Marley wants to utilize that power (even though I don't think they are in control of any Eldian royal bloodline?)

they actually dont give a fuck about the titans as much as the resources on the island, mainly the oil and shit that can help catipult there tech

Interesting how Zeke never revealed that he has the King's blood. Perhaps he isn't 100% loyal to Marley? Maybe he betrayed Grisha because he knew his dad's plan was doomed to fail and wanted to save the rest of his family? Who knows.
Also I think I finally understand what the coordinate is. It's not a special mutation that lets you control all titans. The royal blood is what lets you do that. The coordinate is what links you to all other titans. It's like a hive mind type of thing.

I feel like I need to let a couple of chapters build up before I go back to reading to get a better idea of what is happening now
