On a small note, I loved Trunks' crazy power-up that saw him go up against both Zamasu and Black but alas, it's complete bullshit for him to go from being so weak to keep up with two beings that even Goku/Vegeta had a hard time competing against.

Sure, the mystery of who Black is and eventually leading up to the revelation plus future Trunks being back was all cool and the fighting wasn't bad. However, the vegito bit and then the fusion to make that being who somehow became the universe after dying, wtf? It was a major turnoff. Aka, the last I dunno, 10 episodes destroyed the whole arc for me. Hard to recommend it when it ends so terribly (I don't mind if no one else was revived on earth fyi). Yeah the ending of the black arc was so bad. The episode after Vegeta was beating Black was when it went downhill imo. I disliked Trunks powerup, I would have preferred him and Vegeta did another training session in the time chamber and then he got a nice boost from that. But alas that isn't what happened.

Mystic Gohan was much, much stronger than Goku during the Buu saga. It makes sense that Goku would go blue to push back mystic Gohan.

I think the most glaring thing wrong with this episode was Roshi's perversion. It hasn't aged well with regards to the fact that stuff of that nature is just more taboo nowadays. But it also just hasn't aged well by itself. It felt overdone and poorly down this episode. It went on too long and it was just kinda of weird. It "killed my buzz" while watching. One thing I did like: The re-inclusion of the idea that being punched by someone significantly weaker than you is equivalent to nothing happening at all. The same dynamic as Cell vs Krillin was seen in Roshi vir Yurin. This is interesting they seem to have disregarded it in Gohan vs Krillin recently. But there are a few things about Gohan vs Krillin that change the dynamic. In Krillin vs Gohan, Gohan is knocked off balance. Goku has been hurt by Chichi and others who are much weaker than him despite the fact that he is much stronger when he is knocked off balance or surprised, so that's different because Roshi and Cell were both aware of the pending attacks. Even though Cell and Roshi do not adapt to the attacks (they blatantly get punched straight in the face, for example), they take no damage. So even though they are hit in the same way. awareness of it coming makes a big difference. So that can kind of justify Gohan vs Krillin (thrown off balance)while still allowing extreme power difference to make a fight like Roshi vs Yurin. What makes Roshi totally worth keeping around: Student and master Kamehameha composed of Goku and Roshi would be "nerd chill" inducing. Gohan using a special beam cannon would also be amazing.'' Tenshinhan: Notably weak and basically reinforces the idea that he's among the weakest. All of his moments of strength were only as diversions and it feels like he's on a Krillin kind of level much more than a Piccolo level. As for strength going into this, I think we can finally rank: 0. Arale 1. Blue Goku 2. Blue Vegeta 3. Mystic Gohan 4. Buu 5. Piccolo 6. Android 17 7. Android 18 8. Tenshinhan 9. Roshi 10. Krillin Edit: updated my rankings

I had interpreted the episode as both were holding back and Goku's ultimate power is likely significantly higher than that. Piccolo was ahead of 17 during the android saga and had continued to train since then. On May 08 2017 01:30 BigFan wrote: I would say Tenshinhan is stronger than Krillin. He at least stood up to Buu and has been training since while Krillin couldn't, gave up on martial arts and only came back into it recently. This recent episode was kinda terrible imo. Once again, they severely overplayed another character's strength. I rolled my eyes when I heard Goku say that Roshi has been training in secret and this is his power lol. Yeah, I agree and updated my ranking. Also agree with your thoughts on the episode. I am choosing to believe that Roshi has been exposed to a lot of advanced techniques after how many times he's fought alongside and watched Goku etc. He could have also been training and likely got much stronger, but I am thinking he's not anything impressive to Goku, just impressively improved.

With 17's advantage being his limitless energy.

Android 16 cited Piccolo as being as high of energy as 17, but Piccolo was holding back during that time so that Cell would tell Piccolo who/what he was. So Piccolo was actually some amount of stronger, likely much more, than 17 at that time since he was comfortable letting himself be grabbed and had his arm extracted. That's my read on it at least. Edit: Updated my list above to reflect S-tier.

I don't think Picollo was stronger than 17 at all, if he was the fight wouldn't have been so close (favoring 17 due to his limitless energy).

Wasn't Piccolo even actually trying to kill 17 to deny Cell perfection?

Piccolo tried to conceal his power as much as possible to avoid Cell finding out where the androids were so I think he looked less powerful than he was.

It's not like he could have concealed that much. He still had to put out enough to fight on par with full power 17, which I believe the only reason he did that was to kill them to make sure Cell doesn't get to his Perfect form. And when Cell arrived, despite no longer having any potential reason to hold back, Piccolo was totally outclassed.
