Wonder Woman - 4/5 Not as good as reviews made it out to be, but it certainly is a movie worth watching considering the bullshit DC has put out so far. Directing and acting were great, however the last 15-20 minutes were a bit disappointing (and by that I mean the fight, I thought the CGI was kind of dull). Still a good movie on par with Marvel movies, but I wouldn't rate it higher than the Batman trilogy. Before I Fall 3/5 Decent drama, perhaps a bit over the top (perhaps because its aimed at younger audiences), but the message it tries to convey is something that resonated with me. Zoey Deutch, which was the main lead impressed me a lot, such an amazing young actress. Gifted 5/5 Easily one of the best drama/comedy I've seen in recent times. This movie has it all, acting, script, directing, you name it. Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace put out stellar performances and their chemistry is superb. Great twist at the end too.

It made the voice and armor look like comic relief

the axed finger scene definitely delivers. edit: Im also going to see Homecoming tonight as well. Definitely looking forward to this one. Also feels odd to watch two movies at the same day whose name's contain "house" and "home", heh...

Most formulaic, cookie cutter yawn inducing dreck I've probably ever seen. Maybe paired with Kong Skull Island. I'm just so, so sick of super hero movies at this point. I hope 1 or 2 may be able to surprise me, but I doubt it at this point. Or I've just become too cynical to find + Show Spoiler + "believing in love" is an actually good line or way to make her find resolve Of course one can start to expect for storlyline and dialogue to drop hard if ~5 movies in this genre need to be pooped out every year so they can grab their big buxxx. Small rant. + Show Spoiler + Every scene was dull, long, boring. I couldn't connect with the characters AT ALL, they were so one dimensional. Why was the Scottish guy in there? Comic relief? Give me a break. This movie almost came to the point of becoming satirical, it should've accepted how it actually was: a fucking joke Ares, are you fucking kidding me? He's just going to look the same like some average English bloke in office? The God of War was truly a failure. Aren't Gods supposed to belong to the epic part of culture? The only redeeming quality of this movie was the lead, which was stunning to look at. Literally the thing they tried to force into people (female empowerment, although it wasn't too much imo), was completely lost because this woman is such eye candy and several shots completely highlight her looks. This movie was SO BAD I consider it as a light soft porn version. What a disaster. If people actually find this good, I need to start finding a way to getting the hell off this planet, because idiocracy is coming. Or perhaps I can find a way to become a brain in a vat for perpetual disconnect. This movie actually makes me feel there's not a lot of hope left for humanity. Hey, why don't we rape Greek mythology and human intellect AND romanticize the atrocities of WW I and make humans completely one dimensional creatures? Oh, and while we're at it, let's put in some bad sexual innuendo's, cheap emotional hooks, bad and horribly timed slow motion and the probably the most ill contrived cathartic moment in history. Fuck this movie with a big fat F.

Fireworks + Show Spoiler + Takeshi Kitano (Beat Takeshi) film. His acting is wonderful, as always. I don't care that he always seems to play the same character - like Anthony Hopkins, he's so good at it that it doesn't matter. The plot is well-written but it doesn't always tell you explicitly what is going on (i.e. why certain decisions are made). Light on exposition and dialogue (a feature of Asian movies, I think). You need to watch and fit some of the pieces together. Pay attention to body language and enjoy the calm pacing. The Blackcoat's Daughter + Show Spoiler + Don't watch this movie if you like your horror covered in blood from start to finish. It is a slow burn with a small cast of characters. Not bad, not great. Fun to watch in bed with the lights off. Shin Godzilla + Show Spoiler + Hideaki Anno (of Evangelion fame) wrote and directed this latest Godzilla movie. I think it is the best Godzilla movie. Godzilla has much less screen time than we have come to expect. Instead, Anno focuses on the task force within the Japanese government that has to figure out how to deal with Godzilla. International politics also comes into play. Ticking clock plot. Human innovation vs. existential threat. The later scenes with Godzilla are beautiful and terrifying. My Cousin Rachel + Show Spoiler + Rachel Weisz was perfect for this role. If you don't already know the story, skip the trailer (you should always skip trailers but especially in this case, imo). Ambient music, and pretty much the entire movie is dialogue - one of those movies that is clearly adapted from a novel. Beautiful costumes. Mystery/Thriller plot. Paris, Texas + Show Spoiler + Paris, Texas is as good as they say. I'm not sure what to write about this movie. It held my interest by introducing interpersonal mysteries and slowing revealing information about the characters. Charming, playful, and often somber. Stalker + Show Spoiler + I watched Stalker for the second time a couple of days ago. It was my first time watching a Tarkovsky movie in a theater. It was a small theater - hot, sweaty, and accompanied by six popcorn munchers; one of them sat right next to me. All in all, a good time. And I now have a crush on the theater owner. Stalker is a great movie, but it asks for your full attention, and you do need a bit of patience. Difficult if you watch it on your computer. Running time 2h 43m. Long stretches of silence where, if you don't appreciate the underlying tension, "nothing happens." A Dark Song + Show Spoiler + The movie is about two people alone in a grand old house in the middle of nowhere (a beautifully scenic nowhere) in Wales. One of them is a young woman who recently lost her son. The other is an experienced specialist in the occult. It held my interest the whole way through. It is well-made, and I especially liked the sound design, pacing, and acting. But the aesthetic of occult rituals (symbols, rites, spiritual journeys, and whatnot) has always interested me.

I guess in today's PC gRRRLLL power environment it would be going against popular sentiment and "anti-woman" to say it was a shit movie. Mother doesn't want daughter to become a warrior and wants to protect her from the world, but daughter is rebellious and wants to go her own way? Check. Man needs woman to save him to ensure that women can do anything? Check. Man who happens to be object of female lead's attraction happens to have a large penis and a joke is made about it? Check. Awkward romance scene where sleeping together is implied but superhero doesn't get it so it's supposed to be funny? Check. Final boss expecting for whatever reason that the main character will join him, otherwise die? Check. "Love" is what will save the world? Check. So garbage on so many levels.

Baby Driver I don't really know what's all the fuss about. It was watchable but not spectacular in any particular way. Kind of a worse version of Drive.

It was pretty good in the first half, and the second half was very good. You're right, though, that it seemed like a cross between Drive and an escapist young adult movie.

I highly question the mindset of someone who knowingly pays to go into a comic book movie and comes out complaining about cliches.
