Most simple thing you can do if you want them to stop bugging your harbours is just placing like 1-2 ships every 5 or so coast provinces and pirates wont come anymore. That's at least how it worked for me with Britain and my pirateproblems in Africa Sounds like IRL EU ^^
haha yeah pretty much but I have yet to conquer Somalia ^^
Right now I am in year 1550 and basically control Normandy, UK and subsahara africa except for Somalia and right now I am starting some colonies in Cuba
But my problem right now is that my previous King did not leave a heir because 1 year before my king died his heir also died.
So now I got a new King but he has 20 legitimacy which basically leaves all my provinces rebelling whenever they can.
Lucky for me though is that I am allied to France so I am not really in any major war right now except some punishment expeditions along North americas coastlines
can some of the experts give me advice?
Should I just change my form of government to get rid of the bad legitimacy or should I sit it out and wait?

PIRATES.
I find them completely game-ruining and tried to edit them out (changed their culture to new_world, set naval tech to 1.111 as suggested by some guides), however, they keep fucking spawning.
I overwrote my current safegame with the PIR= part of one before they spawned (+the edits to new_world/tech level) and this removes all current ships from the game, however, after 24 days they show up again.
I don't want to debate if it's good or not to remove them, I just want them gone since I think it's a horrible "feature".
Any ideas?
(Current 5.1 beta patch) How are pirates an issue? I just let my ships out of harbor and set them to Patrol my coastline and I never have an issue, ever. It's like three buttons you have to press. Perhaps it gets worse later on in the game when you got to deal with Colonies in South/North America and Europe, but from my European/African campaigns I've never had an issue ever. Basicly I have so much ground to cover that when I'm going to war vs England I have to decide between all ports being blocked or them raping my entire fleet one by one. :S You used to be able to simply remove them from savegames, but I can't get it to work. None of the pirate mods that used to make them awesome threats instead of annoying flies seem to work for the current patch either. QQ.
...you know your ships don't have to come out of port to block pirates, right?
Edit: Unless you're playing pre-Heir to the Throne, I THINK they also don't have to come out of port in 3.2 In Nomine

Hamachi just puts you on LAN. I had to dowload the game illegally because I don't have interwebs cash right now. If we connect on Hamachi we can play the game as if it was LAN. It shouldn't cut you off from the interwebz O_O

So I'm in the EU3 channel. My name's Adrian, and you should probably see me in there, but I don't see anyone online, even though another person just joined the channel. Any tips on settings and whatnot that there might have to be changed?

I'm in here (in the hamachi), but my chronicles is run on steam so it's still version 5.0, is there any way I can update this to 5.1 with steam?
edit: we have two on hamachi right now about to start a game if anyone else wants to join

I have gotten much better at understanding the game now, ive done alot ofreading but heres question that i dont seem to find an answer too anywhere...
1-WHAT happens when you have say an infantry army lead by a general fighting, and then i bring in my cav army lead by another general to help... I know they join forces, and avg the moral.. however what happens to the generals?
Which general is in charge? If one has a higher fire, and another has a higher shock... does it take the highest values of either? But if it does that, wouldnt it be better to have pretty much 2 generals in every fight...
I also noticed that when i helped a infantry army with a cav army, thati crossed a river with i got the -1 crossing modifer.. but does that also now apply to the infantry? Which never had it in the first place.. that doesnt seem right..
2-I have sent 2 merchants to a CoT, and both got in, apparently giving me something like 30 ducats, however.. in my financial list, where the sliders are.. teh trade value there is only like 1.6 ducats.. whats going on.. not to mention tax ducats are like 6... yet thats less then half of my capital... How do u tell how much yearly lump sum of ducats u get too.. none of this is clear..
3-I have way too many diplomats all the time.. what can i spend them on that is actualy useful, do i just spam royal marriages???
4-Seems like the only thing that matters in this game is trade/ducats... If i want to focus on diplomacy or war, u have to have money, alot of it. So whats the point of having war/diplo/other focuses when all you should do is do your best at riches then u can do whatever u want. Why isnt war or diplomacy profitable at all... so many negative modifers and or costs...
5-BIGGEST question of them all... Why do moral even matter? I mean.. if i chase away the enemy from a battle.. they just get to recoup themselfs...Who cares about how much moral damage i do if all they do is just keep running away.. i dont get this? -Does moral in someway also effect casualty damage, ive noticed that after the fight if i chase the army i do loads of damage.. how come i didnt do this load of damage when the enemy was getting low in moral during the first fight? Not to mention on the forums at EU3, they say moral just lets u keep fighting, not do actualy do bonus damage..Not sure how this works..

So the Ottoman Empire has Serbia and Bosnia as Vassals. Cool.
But, can I annex them? They are a different religion which means no. And I can't find an option to send missionaries to vassals. So is the only way to fully annex different religion vassals to actually break off the vassals and do it with war?
|
How come in the great men screen, for example it costs 10% culture to buy a certain tax guy, but when i "buy" him it only reduces my culture by something like 3-5%?
How do u gain culture? Seems like spamming mags into paintings is the only way...Seems like the culture annual gain is weird too.. says .5 but i lose a base of 5%?? so basicly id always gain culture but at 100 culture id lose 5%?
I dont understand how great men culture costs dont actualy reflect how much u use up recruiting them..
Also, whats the point of CoT's, even if i spam one with like 5 of my merchants.. which costs me atleast 50 gold to do... within a short time frame they just get pushed out by other merchants.. doesnt seem very worthwhile.. just losing money?
Still dont get what capturing and having ownership of provinces does... seems like im just adding instablity.. captured provinces are giving me like zero tax income.. whats the point?

In time, annexed provinces will become core provinces and get you good tax income. I think it's 50 years. From start to finish you have 400+ years, so it often takes time to see results.

So I just bought the game, and I was playing a ton. Here are my brief answers from what I've discovered. BTW, this game has been a ton of fun and I have loved it so far, so thanks TL for the suggestion!
How do you gain culture?
Spamming paintings works, there are random events and advisers you can use to get culture up, but paintings work fast. However, magistrates are very valuable if you have a large empire and you need to spam forts or other buildings so paintings may not always be an option.
Also, whats the point of CoT's, even if i spam one with like 5 of my merchants.. which costs me atleast 50 gold to do... within a short time frame they just get pushed out by other merchants.. doesnt seem very worthwhile.. just losing money?
You need to invest in trade tech or other advisers to make your merchants more competitive; you can see in the slider the likelihood of your merchant being accepted; so it makes sense to auto send them to places that they are likely to be accepted and that have a high volume of trade.
Still dont get what capturing and having ownership of provinces does... seems like im just adding instablity.. captured provinces are giving me like zero tax income.. whats the point?
It depends on the resources of the province, religion etc. Basically if you take a place that produces gold i.e. Aztecs you will get a ton of money; if you take a place that has no people and produces grain it will cost you a lot in the short term. However, over time they will get added as cores and it will be a net gain, so you have to choose a strategy about how much you want to expand; where you want to expand etc.
5-BIGGEST question of them all... Why do moral even matter? I mean.. if i chase away the enemy from a battle.. they just get to recoup themselfs...Who cares about how much moral damage i do if all they do is just keep running away.. i dont get this?
If a stack hits 0 morale I believe they surrender so you can mop up an enemy force and finally kill them off by chasing and killing it or surrounding it and then having it retreat into a unit with full morale (it worked this way in Victoria II which is based off of this game).
If you have questions you guys should just check the EUIII wiki it was very helpful for me.

How do I not run into debt? lol i always run into debt and the game takes a loan from me and i cant pay it back and then i have to take another loan again and yeah how do I not get here in the first place
|
Also whats the point of moral? I have a choice between a unit with 1 shock and 1off/0def moral Or a unit with 0 shock and 1off/1def moral
I mean.. one can can actualy cause casualties.. and the other doesnt take moral damage as easily...
This doesnt make sense to me, because if i lose a battle on moral i can just regain it.. and if i lose men i can also regain them... How is one better then the other etc?
Also when u use a unit and attack another... do u use your units offensive stats only, for all the dice rolls? Or do both armies attack once and then defend once for each phase? I ask cause if im always the initator in combat means i could make without the defensive stated units... However if u use defensive stats after your attack, against the computers counter attack then i guess it would matter.. anyoen know?

Loans are very very bad do not let yourself take them. First, basically don't ever hire mercenaries they cost a shit ton. Second you need to adjust the inflation bar to run positive cash flow, that prevents debt, but of course dont let it get to high (i.e. never above 20%). Use merchants to get money, get good provinces upgrade them etc. to get positive cash flow. Also in times of peace, you can reduce your military upkeep and save a ton of money!

Morale helps when you try to win a siege by storming the fort. More importantly morale helps, while actually fighting because your men will retreat when they run out of morale, so higher morale means you can stay in combat longer. If your men retreat into something and have 0 morale they surrender and they all die; likewise if you catch a retreating army with morale and they have none you win. In general, I find morale more important, and you are correct they both regenerate, but in times of war you often don't have that luxury.

Me and GGTeMpLaR kicked the living shit out of this game last night. I highly suggest that you try this game in multiplayer. It's tonnes and tonnes of fun. GL HF see you tomorrow. Join the hamachi channel! /sleep

just a small note about something people might be unaware of. if you rightclick your game in the steam library you get the option to view the game manual. it answers some of the questions asked in this thread.
