http://gpl.garena.com/index/news_detail.php?aid=25 The SEA region will be splitting in S5. Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau will compete in the "League of Legends Master Series(LMS)" and Vietnam, Singapore/Malaysia, Philipines, Thailand, and Indonesia will continue competing in the GPL.
Both leagues will hold a 2 split season, Spring and Summer.

Splitting Taiwan and Vietnam makes me sad because Vietnam can compete with Taiwan and have some legit players like optimus and archie but oh well at least the Viet fans will enjoy their free money. Though Indonesian LoL intrigues me

RIP SEA scene. (as in SEA proper. The change is great for TW&HK) Vietnam got the short end of the stick here. Their teams have always been surprisingly strong compared to the flop that is SEA in general. Now SAJ/SF5 are in the position that TPA/S were in the past seasons.
Solely for competition I would have preferred just a FFA circuit; screw country representation! From a business standpoint I understand Garena's priorities influencing their decision though.
Anyhow I now have zero reason to watch GPL anymore, since TW casters will focus on LMS and probably won't be covering GPL.

This team is my dark horse at the expansion tournament. Probably the strongest jungle/mid duo alongside Santorin/LOD at the tournament. Plus, from the ranked 5s games I've seen, Cacks is adapting pretty well to top.

Lol, with how Inori tends to tilt in important BoX, that's pretty ballsy call. Hope Santorin doesn't make LCS though, will be fun to add him to "best chokers in history of LCS" roster.
+ Wiz or The Dude making LCS again will be hilarious by itself, so i will root for those bitches a bit. Probably not that hilarious as maplestreet making it but still.
Actually, are there any rumours about WE/TPA going for OGN Winter next season?

Does it belong here? Anyway Apdo now made CN rank 1 after 3 weeks instead of 3 months and earned his 1 million CNY so about 160k $ according to Reddit. Pretty cool, also streaming to 100k Chinese viewers on YY probably gives some revenue aswell?
|
160k$ for reaching n°1 ? Who did he had a deal with ? (sry broken english hue)
|
The streaming site YY offered 1 mil. CNY to the first one to reach rank1 on the Chinese ladder with YY in his name within three months. Apdo was the clear favourite right from the start and he certainly delivered.
It's also not that surprising that they blow that much money on League if you look at the viewer distribution on their site.

YY.tv, one of the biggest streaming platforms announced few months ago that they will hold a competition for anyone. You just need to put their labels in name + be #1 in CN Challenger, so you could participate and win.
Some games of Apdo were really hilarious when there were 10 competitors in each game.

Starting from scratch or if let's say you're already rank #1, and you rename you get the money ?
|
Starting from scratch I'd very much assume. As I just read there were some additional things that you had to do, including to somewhat regularly stream on YY while you ranked up your account. Needless to say, it was a really good marketing opportunity for them. The 1 mil. price definitely wasn't charity.
Pretty sure all those masses of LPL teams that are sponsored by DoyouTV feld a bit sad.

If they (LPL players) were in it for the money they'd just left to become full-time streamer outright I'd say. Much more lucrative.

Wasn't the contest for #1 on korean ladder by the end of the season? Or different contest.
