I will update this thread every Saturday after we record matches, every Monday night to include a new poll, and every Thursday to name our new competitor. -------- LATEST UPDATE 5/23/10: VODs are up for the qxc (T) vs. HuK (P) match in glorious HD below!
Week 11 with co-commentator Sean "Day[9]" Plott + Show Spoiler +
That'll do it for us here at the Showcase Series guys. It has been a pleasure to bring you these matches throughout the weeks. I hope you guys enjoyed it and thanks for letting me be a part of the community.
Till next time! We're not done with SC2 quite yet. -------- What is the KotBH Showmatch Series? GotFrag and Major League Gaming are pleased to host and broadcast a Starcraft II, King of the Beta Hill exhibition tournament. In a winner takes all, last man standing format, the winner advances each week and the loser sits out a week. The action will be intense and the matches should give everyone, whether or not you have the beta, a chance to see what the game looks like being played by pro players. Every match broadcast with expert commentary and insight by our veteran Starcraft broadcast crew.
One match, streamed live, and one winner each week. The winner each week advances to next week's match to face a new player voted on by community. A group of players will be selected each week by MLG and a a poll created. The poll winner each week will earn the spot in the next week's match against the previous week's winner. Once a player loses, they must sit out a week before being eligible for another poll vote. Matches are best-of-five. Final winner is determined the last week of beta, last man standing takes all.
Map Rotation This rotation will not change throughout the series.
Lost Temple > Steppes of War > Desert Oasis > Kulas Ravine > Scrap Station > Steppes of War > Lost Temple
Feel free to ask any questions in this thread and I'll try my best to respond to them. We're trying to be as transparent as possible with the community so the cast is the best out there. If you have any criticisms, concerns, or feel like just flatout flaming us because of how horrible we are, feel free! Criticism helps us make the show better for you guys.
How do I get added to the poll? Simply preform well on the ladder. I'll be playing close attention to replays and talk of replays. Innovative players will earn a spot in the list most of the time. One big thing to note is that Blizzard employees cannot participate in the showmatches. This means that KHB, CGM, Dayvie, etc, will never be in a match (unless they request to be thrown into the poll).

We're working on a prize perhaps for the very end of it. No details yet though and probably won't be for awhile. Thanks for the criticism!
Personally, I would like to see if people can counter (particularly a terran player) Oversky's ZvT, and he's a very solid player - so voted for him. I also would like to see if CGM can get inspired to play for one of these, though I would understand if he didn't (especially considering the blizzard cap )
I just want to say - JP you are doing a wonderful job. Even though the PvP wasn't that interesting to watch I think it brought TONS of attention to the fix that it needs. Louder is an excellent player (obviously response is too) but there isn't much to be done in that matchup.
I think these showmatches (KOTBH style) are great to bring attention to great players showing the amazing parts to these matchups as well as the flaws.
Oversky will be great. He has played TONS (no way to over exaggerate that!) of games.
If CGM is willing he would be an excellent Terran to showcase.
Either way - Even if it is the "red-headed step child" it is good to see some MLG sparks forming over there. I hope this type of competitive RTS at least passes the oh-so-imba WoW Arena that has a bit of a following.
Maybe this has already been answered somewhere, but why is Idra not an option? Even though he's in SK he plays on the NA servers if I'm not mistaken. Wouldn't it be a great advertising hook to have the "American progamer in Korea" participate in the showmatches? Is he missing from the poll because he's signed with CJ Entus?
Personally I hope Oversky beats Response... mainly to avoid the possibility of another PvP for a round. Then I would like to see CowGoMoo, Idra, or Smuft.

His latency situation is less than optimal right now, so a match would probably just leave lots of room for back-and-forth speculation about who would have won without lag afterward.

It's mostly that I'm an idiot and didn't include him, but I also figured he wouldn't be interested in the match. That being said, both him and Nony will be in next week's poll. Six more hours until I announce the winner! + Show Spoiler +
Anyone know a quick way to get in contact with OverSky? I've tried PM'ing him on TL.net and checked for him in-game all day. Need to talk with him to confirm tomorrow nights match >.<

itmeJP should be posting the matches on youtube and updating the thread sometime today (according to the OP)

We record the matches around 7 pm CST on Saturday and usually takes us 3-4 hours before matches are uploaded. I'll keep the thread updated as soon as I know a better time frame.
Could we add Gretorp to the poll next week? He is a Terran user, and #1 in the platinum division. He has some unique builds/ideas that differ from the mainstream I think.

Our uploads won't be in HD for quite awhile. The reason they are in such low resolution is because our current mixer is a live-situation mixer and not HD capable. That being said, our shows will be live once we think they are ready. The quality for VODs is something we're working on though, and should be getting better in a week or two.

Toss me some replays (via PM or just a reply) and I'll check him out.

I don't really have any replays of him but you should definitely add him in. He was a top player in sc:bw too. He streams on here occasionally if you want to see him playing.

So here's the thing. This week hasn't gone so smoothly. Last night (Saturday) we waited for ReSpOnSe to come online and he never did. I'll take the blame for this, though, because I waited until Friday to contact him again and he probably already had plans by then.
OverSky still wanted to play so we told him we'd reschedule for Sunday night. Twelve hours pass by and still no response from.. ReSpOnSe -- I hate this alias!
I decided to start looking for replacements to take ReSpOnSe's place early Sunday. After talking with OverSky he informed me that he had a family dinner on Sunday at 6:00 PST and then another time conflict with arose with Day[9] having to take care of stuff from 4:00 - 6:00 PST. That being said, OverSky will be returning next week for our Showmatch Series since he was the poll winner this week and ReSpOnSe was a no-show.
Next up I had to find two new players. We wanted to produce content! I talked to probably 10 players or so and TeamEG (Lz), a Terran user, is confirmed to be one of our players tonight. The other will be Machine, a Zerg player.
Will let you know once we start uploading. Plan on recording tonight at 7:30 CST. Hopefully the community approves of the match-up. I looked for players on the poll and everyone was busy / not available.
Whats funny about this match.. is me and machine are friends.. and at the same time allways been rivals in 2009 wcg usa finals.. it came down to me and machine In a bo3 to decide who moves on from group play to the final 4~ and even though i won 2-1 it was a super close series. So he's looking to redeem himself while im looking to prove im better then him not only at scbw but now sc2 ! !
Something's better than nothing I guess You didn't mention, were you able to work around Day9's schedule or is there a new guest commentator as well this week?

Matches are complete and will have them uploaded ASAP although I wouldn't expect them for about 3-5 hours. Thanks to Lz and Machine for playing this week!

cool cool I am looking forward to it. I have really enjoyed both week 1 and 2 commentary and game play.
In regards to your post future, I agree. Out of all of the cups and tournaments for SC2 beta thus far this series has raised the bar for professional polish, communication and community involvement. Looking forward to this every week JP :-)
A note to the observer: It would look much nicer if you used the arrow keys or mouse3 to scroll around instead of mouse scroll at the edge of the screen. This is especially evident at the start of game 3 when the obs is scrolling around Machine's natural. The mouse cursor moving about so much is distracting and to make matters worse the obs doesn't scroll to where he wants all the time.
1 - last minute match despite all the hiccups! Wow, keep this up and the community will love MLG! 2 - I really appreciated JP's knowledge. He's obviously following the scene daily, watching streams, etc. Props!
Very entertaining, thanks for pulling through even though you were sick Day. The commentary from JP was good but at some points he talks for a long time rather than make precise comments or analysis.

I agree. I do believe he is getting a lot better and clearly has been doing his research, but at times he doesn't address some important things. Enjoyable games nonetheless, very well played by Machine.
Damn LZ's win on desert oasis was so sweet, I'm really starting to like those hellions alot.
It does feel like you need to harass a good zerg, not face him head on. First after you've done the appropriate damage through harass can you start securing an economic lead/superior army.. but it's tricky for sure. Also i think LZ should have gotten some ravens, would have helped him ALOT vs machines superior numbers. I'm pretty sure that unit will become a must in future TvZ's
Production is top notch btw.. good job JP/day9
Edit: Damn this became my 1000th post.. oh well it's a decent thread to have it in i guess

Agreed. While week 2 is a definite, huge improvement, there is definitely areas where the observer can still improve.
I'll throw in my 2 cents: you should have your observer use mouse drag when observing small areas. Edge scroll is just too clunky. Keyboard scroll works, of course -- it works for the Koreans, but Starcraft 2, unlike the first, offers mouse drag, which is much more elegant, aesthetically pleasing way to view the map, when feasible. If you want to see an example of this, see Blizzard's Battle Reports. Admittedly, they take it to the extreme, spectating entire games with mouse drag, but it's a new tool that's not really being used in commentaries or videos at this point. I think it's an important tool if we want to make Starcraft videos more appealing and watchable to a broader audience. It's just a much, much more natural way to view the game when the action, or just plain observing, is focused in a small area. Imaginably, it would give more leeway to the observer too because he could just readjust the camera without having to jerk it around the screen. (That last sentence sounds kind of naughty.)
Anyway, appreciate the efforts by MLG, JP, and Day9.
I wanted to say thank you to everyone at Team Liquid for the support and feedback. Just like the game is in beta, so is our production.
The production is designed for live broadcast and these have basically been test recordings of that; produced live with no post production. The technology to broadcast live HD signal from games is still developing. We hope to have a resolution upgrade installed very soon and the show will actually begin live broadcast very soon as well.
Thank you for the insight on observer and camera operations, those suggestions and comments will go directly to our production.
A huge thanks to JP and Day9 for casting, and JP for organizing, promoting and executing the operation of this tournament.
JP how much Sc2 do you watch/play because you get 3x smarter in Starcraft every week. Loving the love from MLG, really cool to see console gamers commenting that they're interested in the game and want to learn more about it.

I don't play enough at the moment because I've been really busy, but I plan to play a lot this week.
New poll for our week 4 competitor is now live! Make sure to check out Week 3 VODs below! Nony would not be able to make the match so he was excluded from the poll.

That being said, OverSky will not be back in the poll and iNcontrol will have to win the poll to play. Machine will play this week's poll winner. Its flawed system but I am not sure what else to do.
Maybe it's anonymousunanimous among EG, but I think there are lots of really good players who could beat Smuft and I think there are probably a lot of different people who various people think are best.

Yea, I actually meant machine, I get him mixed up with Incontrol for some reason.
I voted Smuft cuz i wanna see the creator of the 3 warp gate build in action. If he can create something that needs a Blizzard patch to fix he has to be pretty good.
I really like the 2nd commentator (not Day) a lot out of all the English commentators (I think his name was Jay McDaniel). He knows a lot of of info and details but doesn't try to convey that he knows it all or sound too fake or over enthused. He just needs to work on his word fumbling.

Yea, He's KingHillBilly, he's been to a few SCBW Lan events in So Cal and he played a lot of wc2, and is a tester for blizzard afaik. So he has a leg up being allowed to play in the internal alpha/beta of blizzard. Blizzard obviously doesn't want to release a game and have their employees going around playing in events etc for a number of reasons.

Yea, Oversky was playing a lot of wc3 and bw in preparation for sc2 beta. And he was very very eagerly awaiting the beta. He was even playing like nonstop sc2 alpha at blizzcons.
I think what happened is he overhyped the game to himself. And once he realized that the game is still beta and not really very interesting as of yet, he kinda burned out on it. (Basically just roach/hydra/infestor every game).
I'd bet a lot that he'll be back after some significant changes take place or for actual release. In fact I'd bet he'd even be back if he drops to 2nd place. He's played a total of 29 games since last Wednesday.
So if anyone wants to see InReach back in action, dethrone his ass on division 1.
Maybe I can talk him back into playing on MSN or something.
Sorry Idra, but im kind of curious to see what all the fuss about Smuft is. It'll be intresting to see if he can beat a solid Zerg player, which I also see as the strongest race atm.
Just a comment on the OP formatting - it would be nice to add to each week a line about who casted it, just for those of us that aren't keeping up as much. Thanks!

First video is still processing but YouTube spit it out for some reason. That's why the quality is so god damn horrible. The second one is done processing so its better.
Hi JP, thanks for doing a great job bringing this to us all.
After watching the first game of the Machine vs Idra series, I have one suggestion (if others agree): Force the players to select distinguished colors. It could have been because the vid quality was low, but pink and purple was a bit tough for me to differentiate between. Maybe force Red and Green / Yellow (defending champ chooses?).
Other than that everything was great. You sound a lot more comfortable now, the obs is doing a lot better, and Day9 is always excellent.

We talked about doing something like this earlier tonight. Going to see how much of a quality boost we get once we setup component connections this week and then make a decision from there. Great idea though!
that build was so clean and seemed really refined -- it makes me really giddy for the future of the game because I haven't really seen anything like that in all the games / replays I've played.
I felt like Machine was screwed a little. He was under the impression that Idra was playing Protoss, so he prepared accordingly. How great is that, he prepares all week so he can put on an entertaining game. So when we find out Idra is playing other races, suddenly all his time, practice, and strategy is greatly diminished. I think in this situation, the audience is mostly at a loss because it makes for a less entertaining game and a less equal game. I think if you want to have your race random, you should have to choose random. Otherwise, select the races you plan to play beforehand so each player can prepare accordingly. It would be like locking in a roster.
Maybe I'm just totally off base here, but I feel predetermined races, like maps, allows players to prepare more and offer more entertaining games. It's just pretty bunk that one person prepared for a style of match up that didn't happen.
are there any replays? want to show some great games with nice strats to a friend on my laptop in lessons (like lucifron vs dimaga round 3 semi finals esl pro invite cup, recommended watch!) need the last game ofc
Those roach battles on creep are very hard to watch. I'm not sure if it's because of the unit models or because of the pink/purple colors, but it's a bit annoying.
The colors are hard to distinguish already as it is, especially roach/hydra mirror on creep and streamed, the players picking similar colors sure doesn't help.
'twas a good watch though, even if I find ZvZ at this level quite dull
I didn't have a problem distinguishing them, in game 1 Idra's forces were clearly darker.
Also there's already a button near the minimap that can color the units the standard red and blue, it just doesn't work yet but it will, it'll work like it does in WC3.

That series was the first where I felt like Korean progaming style training really could make a difference in SC2. IdrA's builds and macro were just more crisp than Machine's and you could tell IdrA has been mass gaming like mad to get everything worked out.

I agree, but I think IdrA might of been upset if I just told him 10 minutes before the match. Might make a decision earlier in the week this time around.
watching now, is there a way to get higher res than 480p? You can't really read the numbers on the observer tabs at this resolution. Would be great to get higher def if you're going to keep putting these on YT
First off all of this "poor machine he didn't know Idra's race" crap needs to stop right now. In NO way do I think we should even attempt to pass any kind of regulations as to what races players can pick in any specific match. If you have worked your zvz hard and you think it is good enough to win a match vs. a Z main race player and you can pull it off, all the more power to you. I for one have been playing with Idra since the beginning of the beta and he has been playing Protoss almost exclusively. If he decided to pick up zerg for a little bit and train one matchup, and WIN it, all the more power to him.... Are we to say RANDOM isn't allowed? The reason people generally stick to one race is because they are more proficient at it. It is also easier to master all the builds and nuances of one race than all 3.

No one's crying "poor Machine." The whole point of these casts is to entertain. My argument was that it made for a less entertaining game because Machine was unprepared, even though he put in the time to prepare. It most certainly affected his frame of mind going in. Is this his own fault for assuming that Idra would just play Protoss? Maybe. And yes, the games are still quite fun to watch, but I can't help but feel that Machine's preparation would have made the games even better, especially considering that Idra does this for a living, it's his life, so any extra preparation would have been beneficial. Part of what makes the Korean games so entertaining is that the players prepare against specific races with a set of strategies, so we see carefully executed game plans. Nothing, at least going in, is improvised on the spot unlike what we (making a leap here) saw from Machine. Again, this makes for more entertaining, sophisticated games.
Yea I just felt bad because IMO the games were not that great to watch, I had practiced my zvp in order to create a high level games for people to watch, but by him not playing protoss he was able to take away all of the practice that I had gone through in order to defeat him. The fact is that I usually win vs Idra in all of the games we have played recently so he must has just switched to zerg and massed zvz in order to defeat me. Had I known he was going to play zerg, I too would have had a week as well in order to prepare for the match, and the games would have been much more entertaining.

According to the cast, he has two beta accounts (in two different realms) and plays P on one, Z on the other. Assuming this is true, it's not really like he used some random other matchup just to snipe you; he mains two races atm and in each game he picked the one he thought would most likely let him win.
All the games were interesting but this weeks were by far the least entertaining and I think that falls squarely on one player being able to prepare and one essentially not only not having that week to prepare but wasting a week preparing for the wrong thing. I'm fine with random players but as one person posted, if your random you have to pick random. If going forward MLG wants to let people pick their races at the last minute they should be more forthright about it so that players can mentally prepare ahead of time to take on whatever. Anyways great shows overall and the commentary is stellar. OMFG.fm could really learn from this show in that regards.
I don't think misinforming your opponent about your race is a good strategy on IdrA's part. The point of these MLG showmatches is to provide entertainment and prove your superiority over another player. Neither of these were achieved.
First game was interesting. I felt like Machine just underestimated how much economy Idra had going, and if he had realized, probably would have hung back and let Idra come to him. I don't understand why he didn't get the second queen. I just assumed that all zerg players get the second (and sometimes even a third) queen pretty early when they FE. The contrast between the roach regen and the extra armor upgrades from Idra was also interesting. I'd have thought the regen upgrade would make a bigger difference and/or that he would have burrowed and popped more to take advantage. This game pretty much highlights why ZvZ is by far the most boring and terribly matchup to play or watch. Zerg NEED Lurkers with anti armor bonus to break up the roach vs roach garbage mid game. Otherwise this matchup will continue to be a boring roach/econ waiting game.
Second game was terribly played by Machine (sorry man, you're a terrific player, I just think this was a badly played game). As a silver league random player, even I know you can't actually roach push against the fast expand like that. You either need to commit to a lot of zerglings to smash the FE, or you need to FE yourself and play the waiting game. I felt like if I had been playing in place of Idra, I'd have won that game too. He played a totally conventional strategy that will beat that rush every single time. I don't think you can ever push roach vs roach unless you've softened up his economy with lings, or you have the speed upgrade (or you have burrow and he doesn't).
Roaches are so slow before upgrades that early game you will always have the advantage if you focus more econ and make roaches just a little bit later than your opponent. I am always trying to pool a little later than my opponent in ZvZ unless I intend to go for a ling rush/push. Then FE as quick as I can, and then delay roaches just a little bit. You end up with the same ground force and 2-3 extra drones when he attacks. If you want, you can even put down a spine crawler if you are gas limited. If you pull down the extra queen it's basically impossible to get rushed roach vs roach if you expanded right.
Third game, that was some interesting cheese. Obviously if Machine had seen that cheese before he'd have just built the two spine crawlers further out and sooner, and easily crushed it with crawlers and lings. This works vs bunker rushes, cannon rushes, etc. Looks like most people just don't try this creative stuff in Platinum league US leagues, because it's common in silver/gold level matches. Drop a quick creep tumor and you can even migrate your spine crawlers all the way out to the ramp if needed. One thing Idra might have done is used that position to grab the gold mineral expo on the right side early on. Any time you've got a sustained camp like that you might as well grab the gold mineral expo. Still it's really effective because zerg really needs the FE to get map control. Desert Oasis sucks as a map though, so hopefully they remove it soon.
Finally, colors need to be chosen FOR the players in show matches. Red vs Blue, period. This pink vs purple or blue vs purple crap makes it impossible to follow same race matchups, especially in 480P quality.
Idra is such a douche sometimes (and by that I mean all the time). I wonder how much he would have bitched if someone he was going to play with changed the race he was practicing for a week against? Then when he gets cheesed and loses he throws out insults and calls people noobs but then proceeds to cheese himself......okay?
where's superdanielman when you need him to rage on him again.
If the MLG KotH matches were just to entertain, then why bring back the person who won last week? Why not script the games to be the most entertaining? Why would they let us choose the players if the players weren't in it to win it? Why practice a matchup all week if your just trying to be entertaining and not competitive? I thought Idra's race switch was a brilliant mind game, especially if he simply let machine assume he was playing protoss but never claimed to recently.
Without echoing PainUser too much I just want to point out that once again Idra is providing a different type of entertainment with the KotH series; just like the draw to watch every dayvie game in the first couple weeks of beta, now Idra is a player who people want to beat, and is also offering very refined competitive play. Imagine if Idra or smuft goes on a 3 or 4 series winning streak. If the games aren't complete blowouts, won't it be just that much more intense as challengers attempt to dethrone them? The MLG has largely targeted the competitive scene with most of their productions, so let them give us the most competitive environment possible. That will be entertaining, as it was here. If your interested in a more casual entertainment oriented production you might be better off with TotalHalibut's SHOUTcasts ( http://www.youtube.com/user/TotalHalibut ).
Don't limit creativity or competition, or you are forcing SC2 to be the "dumbed down" "micro-less" "good but not SC1" game that so many people fear it will be. Give the game a no holds barred chance, and see how it goes. Forcing a one month old game to try and be entertaining by adding rules to the game is the easiest way to destroy a games potential that I can imagine.

I think there absolutely has to be some rule in place for races. First of all, who gets to decide the matchup if both players are race pickers? What if Machine wanted to switch to terran after he saw Idra switch to zerg, is he allowed to do that? Is Idra allowed to switch back to toss after that? Do they just switch back and forth until the timer runs down?
Secondly there is the issue of voting. A lot of people are going to vote in order to see a specific matchup. I personally voted for Idra because I wanted to see a high level PvZ game, not ZvZ. I think it's fine if Idra wants to play ZvZ instead of PvZ but it should list him as a (Z) in the poll instead of a (P) so that both players have a chance to prepare their builds and the people voting would know beforehand.
As far as random is concerned I think it's a fine choice given that it's the listed option in the poll so that both players and voters are aware of it.

The point is that this is more for the fans than it is about winning. Hence SHOWmatches and polls every week asking who we want to see play. if race wasnt important, why would it be included in the poll? part of the desire to see certain players play is the ability to see certain matchups.
Last year, during the Valor foreigner tournament that GOM casted, IdrA had a bit of chat to start a game. Dan was angry about it and said so, and eventually IdrA said something like "I have no fuckin clue what you foreigners are gonna do" and it made Dan so pissed he refused to say anything for the rest of the game. After the game Dan vented for about 5 minutes about how upset he was that IdrA not only talked, but used profanity, and said repeatedly how disappointed he was with his manner.
I redid the poll. Sorry to those who have already voted, but these new choices should be better. I cannot confirm that Lucifron, Orly, or DeMuslim will be able to play. In the event that these players win the poll and cannot attend, then I will go down the list until a competitor is able to attend.

Still trying to decide that. I will post my decision about it when I post the information about our live show (or not live show, depending on things). Expect it Wednesday or Thursday.

What... Why?
I've been noticing he's been playing as zerg a lot in custom games lately... He was practicing it quite a bit with Quick.

I don't think so, Lucifron can definitely beat Idra.
I think Lucifron might be tied up this weekend as well (in the TL.net invitational it was said he was busy and couldnt attend -- same for orly).
That being said, I might see if iNcontroL is up for playing since I've been such a douche to him with things lately and he was pretty high up on the poll one week.
filthy #1 div6 random 2215 would be awesome, im sure he will be up for it i would say glade too but then idra will pick zerg and i dont wanna see a mirror matchup again =)
So I've asked everyone except Fayth and SLush right now. Everyone has something that conflicts with the times that IdrA can play this weekend. Also, with the TL.net Invitational happening, its hard to find players.
Sean is currently working on asking some other Europeans so hopefully by tonight we'll have a player decided. IdrA has also confirmed me that he will be playing Zerg this weekend regardless of his opponent.
Sheath is a really good top North American Zerg you might inquire about, although slush is also really good. Another really good player would be CauthonLuck, he has some pretty interesting TvZ, beating Broom a #1 zerg in the OMFG showmatches and doing pretty well in the recent 32 man USA cup.
And we have a match! The poll this week was a complete failure (because of who I added in). That being said, CauthonLuck will be playing against IdrA Saturday night in a TvZ Showdown!
This match will not be live as we are still working out some kinks
CauthonLuck! I predict this will be the best MLG showmatch yet. nice job JP, I know you've been having a hard time finding players but Cauthon is awesome

I don't understand how this isn't streamed live yet? Surely it must be possible to utilize the same streaming services used in the MLG.WoW casts?
I don't want to complain, but it seems you (JP) are fighting more than technical hindrance here, maybe also "the Man" of MLG? Honestly, with no WoW at Orlando and the WoW license being so expensive, why aren't MLG all over this? It should be much more than a personal hobby project at this point, just look at the success of TL:Invitational - sure it was laggy at times, but we saw some great games and the stream had over 6k simultaneous viewers!
With Day9 already on board on your terms (not his stream), you're pretty much set for success and extraordinary exposure for MLG to the StarCraft community.
Don't waste this <3 The WoW coverage with Vhell & Co was good enough to carry a really bad spectating game (impossible to see what's going on without premium stream, even impossible to read player names) - let a proper game (SCII) carry MLG to new heights now :>

We're waiting on the custom video player to be built. Currently MLG is quite busy running the MLG Combine this weekend and then in two weeks MLG Orlando, but we're thinking we'll have it done before Orlando.
Also, working with a connection at a convention center is quite different than a connection at home in terms of bandwidth. Things like Livestream, etc, are options to eliminate the amount of bandwidth to stream out, but MLG has its reasons and likes to keep everything in house (with the exception of the YouTube channel for more exposure). Not to rain on anyone's parade but 6K simultaneous viewers is extremely low when compared to the numbers that MLG has for its LAN events, but man were those matches incredible! Sean was going crazy, haha
Even as an ex-WoW guy (and I guess I still kind of am a WoW guy, even though I don't play?) I completely agree that SC:BW and SC2 completely shit all over WoW as a spectator sport. Just give it and us some time and all will be well!

We're done recording now but I can't give a time to expect for uploads to finish. The files are quite large with the higher quality so it might be extremely late into the night for them to finish.

tbh, I always kinda liked Idra, his rage was sometimes funny, you know, it's Idra, it was like his way of gg'ing, but tbh, not gg'ing and just leaving in 2 of those games, really lame imo, not what I would expect from a top player like that.

Agreed... I especially don't like it when people create arbitrary rules about the game then try to make other players adhere to them... Totally agree with Day9's stance on this but I wouldn't call anything cheese really.

Always fun to watch these. I would enjoy it if they were perhaps live, but they are still great games that are made into VODs really quickly so I can't really complain too much.
I'm surprised Idra didn't comment, "Making banshees is a good skill to have." There's a lot of new blood in SC2 and with this series and the SC2 TLI this weekend I had a very enjoyable SC2 weekend.

Sweet! Can't wait to see the result of all your hard work! Keep it up!
So does anyone have any suggestions on how we could cram 1-2 more matches into next week's show? I'm open to anything right now.
I was thinking maybe just take the top 2 or 3 poll winners and if all can play then just have the #1 voted player play first, winner goes on to play the #2 poll player, etc.
Fun series to watch! I would also be remiss if I didn't post my "this only happens once" replay of me cheesing and beating CauthonLuck a week or two ago as TvT. =P
Why not set it up so the current beta king plays the winner of the #1 and #2 most voted players? Or, round-robin style for three matches.
Alternatively, you could set up larger tournament brackets (8, 16, 32, or so) and cast two of those series per week... but that's a bit of a departure from what I think you want.
JP and Sean I love you for doing these. Some really nice games in there and also very well commentated, you two go well together (diggity, you too ofc).

Seriously, keep up the good work!
Thanks man! Maybe next week I can work on announcing the correct race for CauthonLuck
This is really great. I used to hate MLG for all their xbox and WoW coverage but it seems you guys are taking a step in the right direction with all this SC2 casting. Keep it up!

I was thinking maybe just take the top 2 or 3 poll winners and if all can play then just have the #1 voted player play first, winner goes on to play the #2 poll player, etc.
On March 29 2010 14:56 ArdentZeal wrote: @JP: You could also take the #1 and #2 poll winner and let them battle out in a bo5 who will be the next contestant for CauthonLuck.
Most likely will probably do something like this or make the match a best-of-seven. I think with how the games are playing out right now that BO7 would be a better examination of the skill level of each competitor.
Yeah, I don't quite understand the need for TV equipment if PsyonicReaver can stream like 720p, but I'm sure JP is doing the best with what he's got. Thanks JP!

Agreed... I especially don't like it when people create arbitrary rules about the game then try to make other players adhere to them... Totally agree with Day9's stance on this but I wouldn't call anything cheese really.
Oh by the way, very good games this week! I saw how short they were and was a little "aww man" but the outcome definitely delivered.
Also makes him very predictable to play when you know he hates cheese so much that he will never do it..

So, ironically enough right after the match I went to message IdrA for playing etc, and stumbled upon his latest games played. The first game after his last match against CauthonLuck lasted 2 minutes 50 seconds and he only mined 200 minerals while his opponent had 300. IdrA won the game. Did he drone rush? :O

he will never get to be good in sc2. or maybe in the time that game dies down he will be on top.
korea gave him mechanics, which one doesn't need that much in sc2, and a huge ego, which failed at TSL.
On the other hand, this terran guy made some great moves. after watching dimaga play, seeing a terran beat a zerg that easy, makes me feel game is more balanced than i though it is.

I've decided instead of sticking on an extra match or two this week, we'll just extend the series from Best of 5 to a Best of 7. The last two maps will be Lost Temple (6th) and Desert Oasis (7th). That makes the Map Rotation:
Lost Temple > Steppes of War > Desert Oasis > Kulas Ravine > Scrap Station > Lost Temple > Desert Oasis
That being said, its poll time! I've included a couple extra people this time around, including Europeans. I will try my best to contact them and see if that have any interest in playing if they win, but if they don't want to play then I will simply go to the second highest, third highest, etc. (Poll in OP)

I don't think it's fair to dump all over Idra. He took time out of his schedule to play these games, we should be thankful for that. With that said, there's no excuse for poor manners, either. With all said and done, though, it does seem that he lets his anger get the better of him, ultimately to his own detriment.
I would vote Lz/Artosis but they already went. White ra is a baller but thelittleone has great games and since he's random we'll see more than 1 match up! I vote for thelittleone.

awesome! voted tlo, if the invitational was any indication then the matches should be excellent
Voted TLO. Cauthon was pretty innovative with his stuff against Idra. Especially on Desert Oasis in game 3. TLO of course, is very popular recently with the Invitational. I think that game will see some exciting strategies and different less standard games. Can't wait!
Voted for artosis, since he has done a lot for the sc community, and since he seems to want to take revenge he will probably get some good practice in for the game and show us some good games.
But it also seems that TLO has aquired a lot of fanboys, so it's gonna be hard to get artosis to play :p
Idras zerg play was quite the dissapointment..but I guess if the T would have played "standard" Idra would have won beacuse of superior mechanics. But wait, there is no standard play or big emphasis on mechanics in SC2 yet so that argument doesn't really work, doh.
I voted for TheLittleOne, but I don't understand why White-Ra isn't getting more votes. I think he deserves a chance at a showmatch at some point. I'd be happy to see Artosis play again, but I think White-Ra should get a match before Artosis gets another shot.

Artosis has won the poll and thus will be playing against CauthonLuck this Saturday. VODs will be posted after the match is recorded. Not sure if it'll be live this week, still working on figuring that out.
Also it will be a best-of-7 and not best-of-5. Map rotation is below (and might change prior to Saturday).

CauthonLuck v Artosis for possibly 7 games? Take all the time you need.
So, long story short: Internet was out today at the producers house so we had to play the matches without having him there. I recorded the audio of me and Sean shoutcasting the matches and saved the replays.
These replays were then sent to my producer and he will try to get something figured out by tomorrow at the earliest. I am not sure when the matches will be uploaded, so I am not going to give you any times. Sorry for not being able to give you guys anything tonight, but it was out of our hands.

The replays save the observer's camera view, so the producer only needs to put it into the observer's view and click on the camera view thing, and record the matches. After that he could add the shoutcasts into the videos.
Also, if the videos are going to be replays, one suggestion is to also hide the length of the replay, just so it doesn't spoil anything. thanks for persevering through any technical difficulties.

I know i'm being picky, but do you think you could change the text in the spoilers into hyperlinks? I can understand if you dont want to, as all it does is save a copy and paste
Brightcove fucking sucks, it takes a million years to buffer five minutes and you cant even leave it to buffer because it automatically starts playing after some time of buffering no matter how hard you press the stop button.
Also that fucker of a media player forces me to see that god damn length of the video every time I have to switch to TL while it buffers, so you blocking the game length with that huge ass MLG icon is not of use when that thing is right there fiuefnwskljfnzdli raeg and so forth.
Man this is a real shame, didn't even realise it was out of sync till the helions came up to the main but now its just painful. And the 2nd game is outta sync the otherway
I absolutely love the MLG logo over the duration, perfect fit. Really just goes to show how slick this cast (usually) is.
(btw the 3 month thing was a bad joke, the op even says every sunday, just didn't like the other poster being railed on for asking for an update)
Nice job with the video quality this week. I don't mind the brightcove player so much but there are definitely reasons to dislike it and octoshape. YouTube has it all beat for compatibility anyway
besides the sync it was yet another great week of matches, enjoying them so much. Also really like how much you and Day9 are enjoying yourself, makes it even better
if someone could reupload these somewhere else I would be thankful, been trying to watch the first 15mins of game 1 for over an hour now, do not care for this player at all
Please upload the games on youtube. I can't watch on the new player, it's too laggy. I probably won't be watching this series ever again unless it's on youtube...
Current player works but it's out of sync and quality isn't the best, it is pixelated when blowing up fullscreen. Cudos to Cauthonluck for taking home another victory as well as JP and Day9 for casting. Looking forward to next week and perhaps another host for the vods
i'd like to thank artosis for displaying his in depth understanding of the game that the rest of us mere mortals on US/EU servers lack. (point of reference- his latest fnatic interview).
The video for this week's game was laggy. Normally I would just pause it and come back later after it loads up, but this player doesn't give the option for loading while paused. Quite disappointing. Hope a different video player is used next week.

wow just watched the first game and the sync was terribly off. the commentator said something about medivacs dying when there werent any to be seen anywhere. pls try to do a better job with the syncing next time!
To everyone posting about the videos being off sync: it is incredibly hard to sync audio with video when you have no idea when the starting point is. This is partially my fault in not setting a good starting point for my producer to do everything in post.
That being said, all of these from now on (with Internet cooperating) will not be made with replays and audio files, but recorded like previous weeks. This is a one time thing.
Also, the new video player is in beta phase right now. One of the things that we forgot to implement was lower resolution (like YouTube) for those of you with poor Internet. This will be changed in the near future.
We've also ordered and received a new video card on the mixer with component out, so the quality should increase even more this week once we get it setup.
That being said, I hope everyone enjoyed this week's cast, even with the multitude of hiccups. See you guys in Week 7. I will put up the poll when I get home from class tonight, but I'm pretty sure TLO is going to win.

In addition to quality issues, I like to watch the games while doing something else on my other monitor which I cant do while fullscreen (most fullscreen things go out of full screen when you click away, even on another monitor). I'd be fine watching non-fullscreen but maybe its my resolution but the player is currently tiny, maybe 1/6 my screen. I realize this is kinda a unique and selfish reason but I definitely would prefer a different player.
Thanks for doing all this JP!
P.S. Lucifron for future weeks!
Edit: Problem somewhat fixed by using ctrl + zoom.
Hey JP, any idea when/if this kind of stuff will be posted on the MLG site? Most of us who don't follow the Starcraft scene had no idea this was even going on.
still can't watch them, I get like 90seconds of buffering, then 10seconds of video, tried pausing for 10mins and still only got about 10seconds of video after.
I love this series, but I can't tell you how unbelievable irritating this weeks player is. I've only been able to get through one match of the first three so far. Please please PLEASE put them on youtube!
Quick question - aren't players who previously loss eligible again after one week of being off the poll? I ask because I didn't see LZGamer and Idra as options for this week's poll. Nonetheless, TLO is going to be awesome!
Uploaded all of Week 6 games to YouTube and replaced the Brightcove player URLs with YouTube video embeds. Audio synchronization wasn't touched though.
Next week we will go back to using the Brightcover player (we fixed the problems).

Happens to most people to varying degrees, I personally mess up quite a bit even on the ladder due to nerves. I can't imagine what the pressure of playing a match thousands of nerds are going to watch would feel like.

TLO will not be playing tonight. Working with Sean's casting schedule, my schedule with finals, and my producers / camera mans schedule it was just a nightmare. He will however be playing in 2 weeks from now against tonight's winner.

Or up your void ray play. If you had just gone for the scv's / marines instead of the gass you would been in a much better place, having the void rays powerd up full just rapes low number of marines. The time you had those void rays there before he got vikings out would have wrecked his econemy.
Yes marauder is maby abit imba against toss, but cathonluck just outplayed you with much better harass each game.

The 2nd game? He never expanded and should have been mined out even faster than me with MULEs. He won purely because marauders cost less than pretty much every protoss unit and yet win in a 1v1 fight. Oh, did I mention then also take less time to build?
And people also complain about Sentries being able to modify/create terrain at their will and funnel an opponent's army to selectively engage in battles he knows he'll win. Frankly, every race has its backers and its haters. When will you realize that leading this hateful crusade isn't leading anywhere? :D
Look at Huk, Nazgul, Mana, Zotac today, etc; P is doing just fine, and so can/could you if you didn't resort to scapegoats every time you lost.

Sentries cost 100 gas and require micro. Marauders cost 25 gas and you just attack move to win.
If you can't see how marauders are way too cost effective when compared to every single protoss unit, you're retarded and shouldn't be playing this game.
It's simple math. I didn't want to turn this thread into a debate but for some reason you guys feel the need to attack me out of no where and say i'm blaming every loss on scapegoats when there's an obvious imbalance if you had any concept of basic arithmetic.
How am I attacking you? I am simply calling out anything anyone with two eyes on these boards/your stream can read for themselves. You like to complain. A lot. Every loss of yours is due to an element totally escaping your control.
Yes, Marauders are cost effective and easy to use, just like Roaches and Hydras. Yes the Protoss race requires more micro than T/Z. No, this does not mean that P lacks the tools to deal with whatever is thrown his way. For some reason you seem to think that there should always be a correlation between cost and ease of use. If you don't like working with what you have, simply change races and quit ranting. If you don't like the way P was designed, why are you sticking with it? Obviously your hatred spans over much more than simple cost efficiency.
I will agree that changing the trinity's mechanics can only help the game, but you seem to think that you're losing simply because of their existence, when everyone else is managing. Hence why I'm simply telling you to take a step back and think things through before mouthing off about imbalances.
The games are up on mlg youtube account if you want to watch them. There is like some chatting at the start where it seems like you didnt know you were recording that made me lol, especially at beginning of game 3 haha.

Yeah I was going to post you might want to hide those until they've been clipped a bit at the front, it's not really appropriate for the level of professionalism usually in these broadcasts.
Great games though, I frequently watch orb and I think he's a decent player but needs to focus more on improving his own play than blaming stuff when he loses.
Then again, he has mathematically proven by math every balance statement he makes
On April 11 2010 17:15 0neder wrote: lol @ orb crying imba before matches. We love your sentries orb, although your nerd rage can be quite annoying.
What are you talking about?
I don't know. I guess I meant after the matches. I agree that marauders are imba, though. GGs man! I really enjoy your playstyle and micro, pretty sick. Best FFs and storms I've seen.
One thing I did want to point out though was that day9 mentioned that immortals were really the only units that are really the "building killers," but 3 marauders are actually going to kill a nexus quicker than 1 immortal for similar cost (300/75 vs 250/100). Then when you factor in stim (which they will always use when killing a building) it's even more ridiculous.
A marauder without stim vs an armored unit (i.e. a building) does 17.76 DPS. An immortal vs an armored unit does 44.95 DPS. Thus 3 marauders are doing 53.28 DPS, AKA more than the immortal. Then with stim a marauder is doing 26.64 DPS. Thus just 2 marauders with stim are going to kill a nexus faster than an immortal would at much better cost effectiveness.
Then with how fast marauders move with stim they can get back out of there extremely quickly + Show Spoiler +
If you watch the video and look at the time stamp he literally kills the nexus in less than 3 seconds, which in my opinion is just ridiculous. You could never kill a nexus that fast in brood war.

I also strongly support putting Huk on the poll after his latest run of results this weekend.
Particularly, Huk's performance against top terran players such Kawaiirice x2, QXC, and Cauthonluck during Inflow, Craftcup, and Triple Strike gives me hope that he can pull off a Protoss victory in this series. I know many of the games he played were best of 1 and it seems like Huk frequently plays hyper-aggressive/borderline all-in in some cases, so I'd love to see what he can do in a longer series.
His play against Zerg and Protoss mirror (god forbid) is also very strong and would make for entertaining games in the future, should he win.

Idra rages about imbalances too, but he's usually a lot funnier. I remember his replays vs. Protoss from TSL 2, where if he loses he would say something to the effect of "don't you feel bad about this" or "this is really fair."
@9:40 in game 2 was one of the best use sof Forcefield I've seen with a nice supporting storm. The game should've been orb's, but he sacrificed an Observer at a really bad time, allowing ghosts to basically walk through his army and expend a few hundred energy from his Templars. Ohterwise, would've been a Marauder massacre.
could u maybe add the date when the games were played on the vods always? have been 2 weeks on holiday and prefer watching games i know exactly the patch number
and wow u could hear the love for your job in game 3 ( tech choice "yeeeees" )

You could never kill a nexus that fast in brood war.
woops! I misspoke! I intended to say that, for harassment, the immortals are only REALLY good for building killing. Sure they can shoot workers a bit, but it's the buildings where I think they really hurt.
that said, everything you posted is wise and true!

ye but can you crono boost a marauder to build in 20 seconds?! i think not ^___^
i just don't understand why you build colossi against pure marauder armies? i think every min/gas for colossi (tech, range upgrade, units themselves) is just wasted (unless there are a a lot of marines mixed in). specially game 2 (steppes), if you use that money für immortals/chargelots you are way better off (the surplus gas even nets you around 2-3 HT's or 4-6 sentrys if you wan't to go that route...).
of course there were other factors that hurt you in that specific game. you caught some devastating emp's etc. but just from an army composition standpoint those colossi did almost nothing for you while immortals especially with attack upgrade rape marauders...

It's cool, orb doesn't chrono boost enough for that to matter =p.
I honestly think hes a good player and that if he worked on using his chrono boost more that his army size wouldn seem so much lower. Look at the videos and note the energy bar over the nexus. So many times he coulda benefited from chrono boosting the nexus to recover probes faster. Its like he only has 1/4 a macro mechanic compared to terran. And I realize a lot of good protoss can't keep up with using chrono boost off multiple nexus later on but I'm talking even earlier on. Like 3-4 min in and its way up there in energy (see the game on desert oasis for example).
Good set of matches. CauthonLuck showing his dominance for the 3rd week in a row. Good job to Orb as well for stepping up and trying to beat the "man-to-be-beat". Hope to see some more exciting matches soon!
2 weeks without KotBH? thats gonna be tough good that there is alot of cool stuff happening these days
first week of CauthonLuck was suprising and impressive, now he has taken out Artosis and Orb, he is really making a name out of himself, really looking forward to see him in HDH tournament now

It's been pretty quiet around here but I hope to be able to share some great news with everyone in the coming days -- a lot of complaints have been taken into consideration. Also, our match is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST on Saturday between CauthonLuck (T) and Liquid`TLO (R). Can't wait to cast them as well as share information with everyone!

Awesome, TLO is playing, should be a fun match. Looking forward to it.
CauthonLuck's play is so solid, no fancy trick just solid build + macro but can't help to wonder if TLO gave up too soon those last games.
Maybe in the last series but versus me if you don't call what he did fancy tricks rather than solid builds I'd really like to see your idea of a fancy trick lol

Lol i didn't see this post til now but I don't think you understand how chrono boost works. Even pre-nerf to immortals with full constant chronoing you could only get out immortals 2-3 seconds faster than you can get out marauders (except that since they cost so much more and the production buildings cost so much more you're only building 1 at a time whereas terran is building multiple marauders at a time). Now post-nerf even with full constant chronos it takes 7 seconds longer to make an immortal than it takes to build a marauder. Plus it takes 3 chronos to keep it constantly chrono'd and while protoss would be using its macro mechanic to make immortals slower anyways than marauders, terran would be making mules and still making marauders faster than the immortals.

First of all, i'd like to say i love the show. Really was sad that there wasn't one last week but so happy to see the double header or this week.
Something that is irking me a bit though, and ill try to write it with as few words as possible.
Video Quality: The quality of the games, and commentary is really great. Though i feel that the video quality is something that could improve a lot. Personally when I render the videos, i render them into 10mbit VBR files and end up as 720p on youtube with a very high quality (Here is a sample). It would be 1080p but my "old" 20" screens dont support 1920x1080. I can give you some tips, or help you out in setting something up to make the rendering better quality.
Production Value: I really like the intro's and outro's, as well as the map show up at the beginning of the match, but the production value feels flimsy when I keep hearing you two talk just before the "Intro music" starts. Feels a bit "basement editing" if you know what I mean.
I dont know who is doing the rendering/editing, but as i said, i'd love to give a helping hand.
Another enjoyable matchup, wish TLO had done better but anyway..
I just have one request JP..
Can you please stop referring to drones/probs/scvs as Peons? I'm willing to deal with supply being called Food but for some reason the word Farms & Peons being used in StarCraft really annoys the crap out of me haha.
CauthonLuck's play is so solid, no fancy trick just solid build + macro but can't help to wonder if TLO gave up too soon those last games.

Specially his harrasement. He comes in early takes, always manages to take a few workers out, goes back masses MMM and then comes in for the killing blow. Solid play.
I was expecting opponents to pick up on his play and figuring out something but man cauthonluck is just *shrug*.

Looks like Nony's gonna win the poll, but I voted White-Ra. His play is just unbelievably solid and I think he and Cauthon would have some extremely competitive matches.
hmm please dont put white-ra vs cauthonluck, its looking PRETTY certain that they will face each other in the HDH next week, would be a bit unfair to them if they had to play each other in a for fun showmatch 1 week before the biggest tournament of SC2 beta so far, neither of them would use their ace strats...

ya... going to have to 2nd that as much as i'd like to see it.
Just watched the Cautholuck vs TLO match, wow Cauthonluck still steamrolling everyone.
Helleyeon.hybillisk (random) was 2153 with 69% ratio (105-47) just before patch 9, and Attero.attero (random) was 1940 with 67.11% ratio (102-50). These two would be good candidates for next week's poll.

Any idea why Lucifron can't play? He came in third in the poll. I know ra is in the HDH and Nony has finals so why not get Lucifron. I really think hes the only player who can beat cauthon right now. I don't understand the decision to put slush in since he hasnt made that much of a name yet.

SLush is actually 2-1 against CauthonLuck. I opted to not ask Lucifron this weekend because of scheduling problems.

Yeah... that noob slush just destroys everyone in the triple strike every week, as well as coming 2nd in the last Gosucoaching tourney ( losing only to a korean ex-progamer ) and also he won 5-3 vs white-ra in a gosucoaching showmatch last week... yea what a noob he surely isnt as famous as "G3nXsiS" maybe you should play.
lolol G3nXsiS.. Slush hasn't made a name yet? maybe if you're not paying attention.. he's a great player and would no doubt provide an awesome showmatch
Slush is pretty sick. If I had to pick 3 zergs from the US server it'd be Idra, Sheth, and Slush. Zelniq, Ruthless, Catz, and Arcology are also up there. ^^

Which games? I thought I told our producer to change them all but apparently not all of them have been changed!

Week 5, 6, 7. The rest look good actually, I just had started watching on week 5.
Just asking for a small favor: Could you add a spoiler with the current King of the Hill? It would be easier to decide for which player to vote next and what match up it'll be. I usually can't remember who won last time.
Other than that, I'm really enjoying the series. Didn't miss a single game so far.
Just as a random comment; your casting has improved a lot JP. When you first started you leaned on day[9] for a lot of the heavy lifting, but in the past weeks it seems you've really come into your own voice for SC2. I genuinely enjoy hearing your casts as much as anybody's now.
Hey s2pid_loser can you spoiler that post please? thanks!
Oh, and yeah. What a night of testing! We had our ups, we had many downs, but we actually did a live cast. The matches have been played. Some of you saw it live, and for those that didn't we will be posting these to YouTube as usual.
I want to personally thank everyone who tuned into our live beta stream tonight. It was on UStreamTV. While the website does provide great streaming possibilities, we were simply testing our own hardware and not the site. We don't plan to remain on UStream for very long.
It's pretty easy to say that we're doing a horrible job right now in the realm of live casting -- and to be honest, we are compared to everyone else. People have been streaming HD since day one. We're making sure that once we go full-blown live that everything is perfect. So off-time live casts like this, with little-to-no prior press, will be somewhat of a familiar thing. In the future I'll try to be more open about when we'll be doing them. Literally ten minutes before the cast tonight our producer asked if we wanted to go live and we decided too.
That being said, I might not be posting a poll this week for our next opponent. I really just wanted to thank those that tuned in and apologize for all of the problems in tonight's cast. See you next time!
It had a cozy sort of intimate feeling to it, trying to figure stuff out and you guys did a good job of reading chat and talking to the viewers which made the whole thing feel more inclusive.
I for one dont expect flawless execution of these things, hell even the Olympics have problems with their broadcasting.

For a show that's unannounced, midnight showing, that ran at the same time as the zotac grand final featuring idra, it has been quite successful drawing more than five hundred viewers. Looking forward to the next MLG KoTBH!

VODs are now available. The 3rd match was cut in half as our producer fatal errored halfway through. There are two separate videos for this making eight videos in total. It looks like Match 3 video 1 and 2 are labeled properly. I put them in the correct order in the spoiler tags though. Sorry.

wow, really? i haven't seen or heard of those matches, anywhere you can see them?
+1 on seeing more of Slush in tournaments in the future
Great show this week JP and co, seemed to lose a little steam over the past few weeks but last night's games/casts definitely recaptured the excitement and intensity. Keep up the great work =)
We'll be going live this Thursday night around 10 p.m. CDT (right after the Day9 Daily wraps up) with qxc (T) vs. SLush(Z)! You can view the stream at our Ustream.TV Page.
Can anyone post the score of Slush - qxc please? I'm on a slow connection atm, and can't open those videos -.-
One more thing: if someone want's to know the results for previous MLG matches, where can he get the results without viewing the matches? I think results should be uploaded in OP.
IMO this was one of the best KotBH matches in the last few weeks. The CauthonLuck matches were just too one sided - even the week he lost. A lot more suspense in yesterday's games. Keep up the good work JP, Day[9], and MLG!
I don't think so. qxc went and played machine in the ITL match immediately after this and also had some epic games there. And machine didn't use roaches at all, qxc just pulled out some amazing micro/macro victories.
Slush just had an off day I think, likely due to the patch making him uncomfortable/not enough practice time, not the actual patch content.
The roach nerf threw my timingt really off and it forced me to do things i havent practiced vs good players. qxc is a really good player so u can'T really win with unpracticed strategies, i'm a really big fan of the roach and roach mechanic and i think this nerf will give me a hard time in the few days to adjust.
Right now if you give me the choice of making an hydra or a roach i would pick the hydra, it tanks more shots from a marauders than a roach. And roach has one of the worst dps and range in the game. So im really curious of what blizzard is trying to accomplish with the roach in the game. Right now i think it's the worst new units (roach, marauder, immortal).
If you guys have any questions i'll try to answer.
Watched the whole series and even though I'm a terran player I gotta agree that this patch was pretty harsh.
Still some amazing play from QXC though, it's rare that I see a game and my jaw literally drops from how good a player is, but this happened several times during this series. I think his micro versus baneline/zergling/muta combo is the thing that impressed me the most. If someone does this strat to me it's pretty much a guaranteed loss since I just don't have the micro skills to deal with it no matter what unit composition I have but QXC managed to not only counter it but simply dominate it with straight up MMM and flawless micro and macro (upgrades).

Yeah qxc really played well so not to take anything away from that.
Watching how pitiful roaching even in the hands of an incredible zerg like SLush just makes me a sad sad panda (-_(-) Good luck working out new strats, I look forward to seeing them!
As always thanks to the player the casters and MLG for another week of entertaining series!
Definitely not a fan of the forty minute halves. It's easier to watch, yes, but I have turned my YT account into a library of bad ass SC VODs, meaning I like to pick and choose what goes in there. Plus I like being able to fit in a match here and there between other things and I'm not a fan of having to find my place again if my session gets interrupted. There's the criticism you so desperately wanted!
JP, this series has launched you to the second favourite caster spot under Day. I am really impressed, keep it up.
So it was just announced that Phase 1 of the SC2 Beta will be ending on May 31. Due to me having to travel starting next Tuesday and being gone till June 7, this week's KotBH will most likely be the last (unless me and Sean co-cast from his house next week, might be possible). I'll let everyone know by the time we do the cast Thursday night.
Alright guys here's the deal. I'll be going out of town for the next two weeks so we're wrapping up the KotBH this weekend and we're going out with a bang.
Throughout the series, people have bitched and moaned about wanting to see high quality videos and what have you, but we were never able to bring it to you. That's changing this weekend and we're going to double up.
We had qxc (T) vs. HuK play earlier tonight. The winner of that series is going to play CauthonLuck in another series on Saturday afternoon. We're going to record both of these and then play it back for you guys on our stream (which might be a new stream, trying to find the best quality streaming site -- I think livestream).
These matches will be a tease of what you guys can expect from MLG in the future: HD streams with the best production value. After the live broadcast of the matches we will be posting them to YouTube.
On May 23 2010 16:52 ChickenLips wrote: Day9 really hyped up the HuK vs. qxc series so I can't wait to see those games. Any idea when / where we can find them?

VODs are up for the qxc (T) vs. HuK (P) match in glorious HD in the OP!
That'll do it for us here at the Showcase Series guys. It has been a pleasure to bring you these matches throughout the weeks. I hope you guys enjoyed it and thanks for letting me be a part of the community.
Till next time! We're not done with SC2 quite yet.
thanks again for doing this, and what a series to end it on Qxc vs. HuK game 3 was truly a great game.
if nothing else you've really improved how you cast, from the observer to the conversation and the HD'ness, so I'm looking forward to a great return when SC2 hits the stores.
