I been keeping an eye on this tournament, and it looks like things are shaping up quite nicely. Will likely go spectate some hot live day9diggidy action. Lives at south riverside if anyone needs a ride.
If I didn't live in the far est I would've definitely go. Such lans are great for both the players and spectators and I hope there will be a lot of them once the game is released.
It is a great opportunity for new players to prove their worth and make friends in the community at the same time. Good luck to everyone attending, I'll for sure tune in the cast.

Entry into the online qualifiers will be 15$ (which will then cover spectator fees if you are knocked out). If you make it into the final 16 it will be 10$ more for on site lan costs. Hopefully this will cut out any flakey-ness and help improve over all attendance (we are aiming for 100 live spectators for the booths).
Once I get paypal account information for the lan center I will start finalizing the entry bracket and seating.
We are probably going to have a non-refundable pre-pay for participants to make sure that people show up. I will get a paypal or other link up soon for this still interested.
We have to play part of the lan tourney online and only 16 can play there? Or am I not reading this right...?

Never trust people from the internets. It could be a trap.
KawaiiRice, it seems like they're planning a 16 person live lan tournament for the game day, so any additional players beyond the 16 will be determined by an online playoff prior to game day.

There are 16 on site computers. Therefore in the interest of sanity we are limiting the in person lan number to 16. Rather than playing favorites (based on popular names or who managed to see this thread first) we will be running an online bracket to get the 16 finalists.
This will also help maintain a high level of competition for the spectators.

I think a first to two preliminary round would be better at the lan place in order to get to the final 16 than an online bracket. It would make it fair and a much better experience for the unknown players.
Going to get EVERYONE to play the online (0 risk) then of the 16 that qualify you are not promised to get all 16 to go to the offline. And each person that skips completely ruins the experience for at least one person but also it damages the integrity of the tourney itself.
You are better off capping the lan at 16 or 32 or something and holding an offline elimination round or w/e.
For a 1k$ prize you won't find a mob of angry people that DarkZergKing1334 was cut out from participating because the tourney was limited to 16 and 16 known/top level gamers committed whereas if you have people commit then decide they don't want to buy the ticket to the west coast (SHETH/HUK) after qualifying you will ruin the tourney.

Its not zero risk. People have to pay to play up front. Additionally I know I can trust some of the known names, but that doesn't total up to 16.
as far as online qualifiers when will they be? becuz if buy tickets earlier there obviously cheaper; but then if i lose in online qualifier i will disappoint.

Online qualifiers will be fairly close to release by necessity. If you buy tickets and dont qualify we can still set up show matches on stage for you among other things HuK.
Depending in the numbers I might be able to run a double elimination tournament as well. I definitely don't plan on running a single elimination qualifier so you should be safe.

I agree it would be ideal to have the entire event live, but I am far more concerned about time constraints. The booth is a single day rental only and it is expensive for the owners. Additionally I want to be done early so we definitely meet the clock time for any spectators that want to show up for the korean booth-live commentary solely.

One important argument for offline prelims is it will ensure greater turnout.
What time frame are you looking at? Is it really impossible to have a quick four match prelim (similar to Razer Domination) prior to the tournament? It wouldn't be unreasonsable to request the competitors to arrive earlier in the day and have the spectators later on for the main event.
In all honestly, the online preliminary would not be good. I'm on incontrol's side about this. I played live @ WCG seattle many years ago, and there was only 8 computers with 60 player turnout and it went perfectly fine and only lasted 1 day. Matches typically only last 15 min max, unless its a 30-40 min game which doesn't happen often. Myself and my friend are willing to purchase a plane ticket, to fly to cali and get to the Lan tourney. Its all about the experience. What if a known player gets beat out by a unknown player. That wouldn't be cool. It's all about the " live experience " imo. You could run the tourney WCG style once everyone is there @ the site. Group A with X amount of players, top 2 move on etc....and make it into a bracket or something??? Anyone else got ideas?
I know my voice doesn't count for a whole lot here, but I figure if you can grab 64 people to come down and experience the live tournament, wouldn't that be best? The original organizer even said up to 100.
64 is a power of 2, so it'd be fitting in that regard. If there's more than 64, you could arrange online qualifiers that way, but still get a larger player base for the event.
If there are only 16 computers maybe it would be possible to bring more??? I know I Could bring my computer maybe even 2. Though I am not driving from that far away. Just throwing out my suggestions. Since I would love to see everyone play there not online since this would be the first real SC2 lan tournament.

Seperate everyone to five different groups on first come first serve basis (or random). The groups play matches within themselves, as many as they like until time's up. All wins and loses are logged and ingroup ranking will be by pure win:loses. Tie-breakers are determined by intergroup win/loses (this is similar to the college football system).
Afternoon to evening: Tournament
The Top three ranking players of each groups qualify for the tournament, as well as one wildcard with the highest number of wins that did not already qualify. Tournament is pure brackets best of 3. Semi-finals best of 5. Grand finals best of 7.

Hey Diggity..I know you guys are working on this very hard and all...but I have a few questions...Doesnt the OP say that he is building the booths?

And now you are saying they are a 1 day rental...I am a bit confused. Can you please explain this? Also..I know that when I had spoken to the guy...He was very set on trying to get 100-200 people to show up...he made it sound like he had more then enough computers, at that time...So has the actual location changed? Please forgive my many questions, I just really want to see this be like one of the biggest and best lans in the United States, besides WCG of course.
Also, as for online setup - I hope you guys are ready and fully prepared to deal with any possible hackers. If you need help with identifying them and that sort of thing, please let me know. I'd be more than happy to help you in that area, if I can. ^^ Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to read this! I hope it all goes well!
yeah i agree online prelims kinda make it a lot harder for people who are planning to go from outside of the area... I'd like to participate for example but im not sure if i'll get enough $ in time to budget that, and sure as hell i dont want to pay for a plane ticket and then not qualify for whatever reasons to the round of 16... I agree its all about the live experience, if this can't be done in a full day, couldn't it be done in 2? i havent posted earlier because I dont know 100% if i'll be able to make it, but i certainly want to try... also: say i pay the 25$, pay for the qualifier and then i can't get the $ in time to book the flight? its not that im trustworthy or anything like that, but having qualifiers will give me even LESS time to figure out if i can get enough $ to fly !

Could this be a two day thing? Have the prelim bracket the day before, then top 16 w/ booths the next?
I will talk to him about extending the event to two days.

64-100 is completely unrealistic.
Hey Diggity..I know you guys are working on this very hard and all...but I have a few questions...Doesnt the OP say that he is building the booths?
The booths are being built on stage on site. Both the stages and the booth materials are rented from what I understand.

The location has not changed. He only has 16 computers on site.

I understand that this makes it more difficult for out of towners. I will look into the 2 day option. Even then I would need to cap at 32. Otherwise I would suggest getting the tickets never the less and showing up to watch the live event if you don't qualify. At best you play in the live event. At worst you get to hang out with a ton of starcraft players and watch an awesome live event.
There is one repeatitive statement that I am seeing a lot of here and I want to smash it.....hard.
LANs dont take that long!
Yes they do. At the last event I worked with (UCSD winter games fest) we had 30 players and 30 computers. The event lasted 12 hours and we ended up playing the semi finals in a janitorial closet while the finals weren't even played on site.
That was SC1, where yes we had TvT (though at UCSD WGF there were two terran total) but there was also ZvZ to balance it out time wise. Additionally mid-to-mid-high level TvT tends not to last 1.5 hours a game where ZvZ is still almost always 12-15 minutes.
Now there is SC2. ZvZ can still go ling/baneling, but every other match up potentially runs into the 30 minute length. If you are reasoning that a majority of the games will only last 10-18 minutes you are at best being optimistic and at worst lying to yourself. Stop it.
I am prioritizing what I assume will be a large number of spectators over what will most likely be 16-30 players. Sorry.
Also, I live in Santa Barbara, which is about 30 minutes from this location. If a few people need lodging if this does become a two-day event, I can probably sleep a few people. I promise it's clean, and I can get you back down the next day.

Id suggest putting in a losers bracket or something similar because Im guessing there will be a lot of people intimidated by all the high ranked players up there.

I want to see the total number of participants before I make any concrete decisions. If its not double/triple elim it will definitely be seeded.

When will you post a list of sing-ups or whatever???
I'm still somewhat confused on how this will work. So it will be on online qualifier, then pray 32 people who qualified show up in Ventura. I can't say that I like the outlook on this because if only 25 people show up out of the 32 who qualified, that is 7 spots of people who could've played.
I also understand the logistical issues of hosting a big tournament and the feelings of some who would travel cross country to play in a LAN and be bested in the first round. I think there could be a better way to do the next one for the future, to get players to guarantee their presence in the tournament. Either way, I'm still excited for this.
Is there a deadline for spectators? can they eat their own food how would that work? would they still pay for a seat?
There is no spectator deadline. You do not need to pay for a seat. Only food+drink.
If your going to spectate this event do you have to pay up front or pay over paypal?
You do not need to pay to simply spectate. Pay is for food+drink (and to help pay for the booths themselves). Paying over paypal would be extremely helpful. Please RSVP so we know how much food to prepare.
The finals stage area apparently can accommodate near 1000 people so lets pack the place out.

Any no shows for the round of 32 will be filled in by ranked alternates (who actually show up the day of the event).
I would love to cater to those who would like to travel cross country but logistically it is not feasible.
Any chance there will be online coverage of these events, for those of us who live in areas such as New York and can't afford to come down there? :D Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but I couldn't find anything.

The reason I ask is that I have dietary restrictions so most likely wont be able to eat the food and can forego a t-shirt. I am also bringing someone else with the same problem, so I would like to only throw $250 for transportation, accommodations, and living expenses for the weekend, and yes, I would like to save $30 for food I won't eat and a t-shirt I don't need. I didn't realize that part of that $15/entry was going towards funding the prize, which if it is, doesn't directly support the "SC2 community" but instead supports Green Forest E-Cafe since the prize money is pre-determined.
Given the comments it seems that money is more important to the community than the presence of its members. I guess Blizzard isn't the only one blinded by Activision's greed.
It's the same argument against you, since you're unwilling to support the organizers who put together this event for the community and sparing a miniscule amount of $15. The T-shirt is just an added bonus, I'm sure none of the participants look forward to getting a T-shirt and are just joining in for the fun. If you're not willing to spare the money, then it's understandable but to bash Diggity and his effort is a bit rude.

what's stopping a player from registering just for the online event for the sake of playing a tournament vs good players ?
Why would they pay 15$ to do that? I think you overestimate public desire to play vs good players, particularly when they can do it for free otherwise. Even if they are, the qualifier isn't single elim and I don't anticipate that any players will be in the top 32 that don't deserve to be there.

Shit... if "we" (all credit goes to organizers) managed to make something THIS BIG... hell, getting out there is worth a try as well!!! xD
It'd be great if a local news crew came to cover the event. It'd help spread awareness of eSports and people may recognize the game from the commercial ABC aired during the NBA Finals. Not to mention Green Forest E-Café getting free advertising.

Just drop it dude.. Youre making yourself look like a prick I now see why you dont want a t-shirt with your name on it..
Don't want this to get too far bumped down. But really, I'm only a little bit concerned that these guys don't have a website up yet, or more pictures of the booths and stuff.
If you haven't already provided it, please list your email and full name as well. I am going to start collecting data to maybe run some of the qualifier during phase 2 beta.

Also, if you need any help organizing, which I'm sure you got it all under control, hit me up. I'm a LA local. Valencia CA to be exact. Should be good, hopefully that stubborn Phase 2 starts sometime soon!
Also, what are the chances of getting replays posted somewhere of the prelims for other players before we head into the LAN finals? Just a question I've been wondering.
You're doing a great job Diggity, super excited to play and meet up with everyone from TL in Ventura.

I requested to be a spectator but I got thrown on the player list. This is fine by me as I understand it's still $15 to show up and play, probably lose early, then enjoy watching top players. Am I right on this, only those that make a certain cut go to $25? If not, please put me back on the spectator list only.
Please do not do the qualifier during the beta, because its not fair to those like me who do not have a beta account yet ( hopefully i'll have one w/ a comp that can run sc2 by early next week though) also, lets wait n see what the final patches are for the true release.
Outside of two text messages Green forest has been out of contact for 3 weeks now.
The two texts consisted of 1) 7/1 saying I would get a call in response to the message I left (which never came) 2) 6/24 a response to another phone call promising a return call after a meeting (which again didn't happen).
Since then I have been harassing them with phone calls to no avail. I sent a text message last night as well (even though I dont have texting). I sent a pm on TL on top of everything else.
I am not sure what is going on at this stage but I will let you all know once I have more information.
I'm still confused on the format of this tourney anyways. Like when and where do we pre-register for 15$? Why does it say online qualifier but not say anything else about online stuff? Is this some elaborate troll?

Agreed. FF's are so broken atm YOU JUST CAN'T force me to play ZvP xD

I wish.
The pre-registration is the biggest issue right now. I asked for them to get a paypal or alternative link up awhile ago and that is the big hold out on the online qualifier bracket release information. I don't want to release the tournament info until the paypal link is up for a bunch of reasons which I am sure you can theorize.
Since I still dont have the paypal link (or an alternative) everything else is on hold.
In theory if things suddenly start to go smoothly, once I get the paypal link, I will post it here, display the bracket, put people who have prepaid in green and start up the qualifier. (Aka you will be able to click to preregister on the paypal link). At that stage I will get something up on youtube and we will probably see a flood of people wanting to spectate.
So to give you a concrete order of events if everything works out 1) I get pay pal link 2) paypal link goes into 1st post 3) qualifier bracket is released (Xeris will be handling things from there) 4) people who prepay are put in green instead of red and they are ready to play 5) Qualifier runs completely smoothly with zero problems (yea right)
Just FYI I plan to run the bracket in round robin group stage top 2 advance

@Diggity, it's all good, man! Don't stress it too much. Get it figured out and update when you have some info. Everyone who's so impatient can find something else to do meanwhile. Digg is trying to have everything as smooth as possible. If he rushes, it might end up like Micro/Macro 2 -.-
We can definitely wait til the release. Speaking of which... anyone wanna go to SC2 release party on 26th hosted by Day9?! xD
What is the best place to fly into, I know Kawaii Rice is flying in from Seattle also like me, but I'm looking for transportation after that, from what it seems LAX is cheapest but also kinda far, as for POINT A: Los Angeles, to POINT B: Ventura, CA, I am running into a huge wall, the cost for a Cab is looking to be $90.00 one way. My Dates of arrival as it stands (no sure time during the day yet) is to fly in on August 13th, (friday), and leave on August the 17th. I am flying in for sure just for this so any offers or recommendations are appreciated at this point in time. So far I have me and my girl, we will be staying at a hotel in Ventura.

I think the real question is, will the tournament or event even be hosted? It seems that communication has been non-existent from Green Forest. I hope it will go. We could discuss the predictability of the Mariners and Seahawks versus the Padres and Chargers.
As a resident here at LA for over a dozen years, I can certainly say that you will have a much easier time looking for flights into LAX, and for much cheaper (If Southwest flies your airport, that's the cheapest possible). I remember reading somewhere that Green Forest is arranging transport from LAX to the locale. If not, one of us locals can certainly drive down there. No problem.
As for the concerns with Green Forest. Worst comes to worse, we'll crash a local's home and ruin the neighborhood
Umm, I live in the area and like this LAN center a lot. I'll go by there and talk to the guys that own/run it and see if they know about this controversy at all.

Browat!? I'm going there to meet celebrities, not play SC2 at a "LAN"! YOU BETTER BE THERE!!!
Best way to travel from LAX to Ventura would be to get a rental car.. As a 22year long resident of LA, you CANNOT do anything here without a vehicle! Who knows, find someone to split the cost of the rental car with you and drive/lodge together if you can.. then you can save a little $

False alarm! All is well! I called the cafe directly and found out that the number I was given was attached to a cell phone that was in the possession of a girlfriend for the past month.
I am told the paypal link will be sent to me today.
Status on other stuff: 1) there will be live casting of the group stages 2) The finals will be filmed and uploaded after the fact 3) we have 35 computers available on site now 4) Additional sponsors 5) for the spectators there will be a hardware raffle
I do believe we will have the largest and most prestigious SC2 lan once we are live
Once I have the group stages up those who want to play their matches pre-release will be welcome to, however the official online qualifier will be post release
Yay! Great to see everything's ok. Way to go Diggity!
Also, did the standby list get capped? I wouldn't mind being on standby if possible. Still, definitely traveling up with Rayeth to watch this awesomeness no matter what!
About to try to figure out what my paypal account is... -.-
Coming from LA. Let me know if you're in LA or coming through LA so we can possibly carpool. We can either rent a car (if you're flying in and split the cost) or if you're driving your own I'll definitely drop on gas! =)
My girlfriend won't come with me/take me so yah... stuck without a ride pretty much! (License revoked!)
Wow, just saw the update. I just found out I will be home in northern california i believe august 11th or 12th, but would need a ride up and down, which i'm not sure would be readily available, this would definitely be a hell of a LAN that I would love to check out. If anything is going down and up from south bay, silicon valley type of area, please let me know or PM me here on TL.
People can also fly into SBA, which is about the same distance from LAX. It's a much smaller airport, so in my opinion, is easier to manage. It's usually a little extra to fly into, unless you come in from like, San Fran, Denver, or Phoenix, depending on where people are coming from. If you're flying into SBA (dunno who would be?) I can always try and get a ride-share going or something like that.
Diggity, if you need help with transport logistics, feel free to PM me or something.
Hello people! if you need/have any transport questions, please PM me. If I can figure out where/how people are coming, it'll be easier to set up a ride-share or figure out how we're going to get people around. Even if it's just arranging a cab or bus, the more the merrier.
Woot! Let's get ready to rumble!!! *sighs hopefully I won't get too discouraged after getting my ass whooped by oGs.Ensnare in RO64 of GGI tonight... =(

I live in Irvine and will be driving up to the event and then back down after. I can't offer lodging but I could pick up/drop off, I'll be driving right past LAX. If this would help you out send me a PM, maybe we can schedule it to grab a couple of LAX inbounds. Priority for players I guess?
I have two tickets right now coming in from Seattle to LAX on August 13th at 9am Flight number 454 with Alaska Airlines. If someone could pick up me and Meechee it would be great. Big Thanks, sorry so early, currently we are planning on staying at a hotel but we are not sure yet.
You all should make a requirement of all 32 players to submit a copy of their paid for travel plans (reciepts for purchase) 1 week prior to the tournament, and if they dont they are replaced by someone

Thanks. I don't know if I can play in this one, seems like the list is full, but I'm planning to attend on the second day, and I'll definitely try to qualify for future tournaments!
Does it matter what division you are in, i.e., Bronze Silver Gold Platinum Diamond? Are we seperated in any way or is it an FFA where everyone plays everyone?
yo my paypal account defaultly has 14 dollars in and i sent another dollar to the account but it's been processing for a week. If it doesn't go through can I do 14 ? I'm coming 100% and will pay the extra fees when I get there anyways.
Here are some more informations about the tournament!!!!
Are y'all EXCITED?????
On 14th, players will be playing inside the Green Forest Cafe. There will be multiple 42 inch monitors for the spectators. It is free to watch the games, but if you want to come inside the cafe and get free pizzas for 2 days and chairs with your names on it, it will be all offered to you for a low amount of $15's. So come to Greenforest and enjoy your pizza while you are watching the live games!

!!!!!! Epic as K-tournaments in Korea !!!!!!! Before the final starts, there will be a Greenforest band playing Linkin Park music. There will be gaming booths just like there are in Korea. The Finalists will be driven to the entrance by an escort, and then walked to the stage on the red carpet. There will be 50 x 50 inch projector screen for the final game! Good luck to everyone! The winner of the event will be given a trophy and a big, fat, check! SO ARE YOU PREPARED?!?!?!
I'd like to be added to the alternates list if there is still time. (It's 11:17pm July 20th in my time zone)

I'll definitely spectate both days if I don't get to play, so you can include me in your RSVP!
One question though, do you require alternates to pay the $15 dollars right now or on-site? If it's right now, what happens if they don't end up filling a gap and playing? Is the money refunded?

The 15$ covers food/drink + t-shirt-named seat. If people make it into the round of 32 they will need to pay an additional 10$ for on site computer playing.

Sure, I'll drop a couple of bucks on a raffle ticket. I have a logitech optical mouse that is so old it lost all of its "easy glide" pads and sort of slides on a film of crud.

Well they are paying 15$ up front for the online so they would be forfieting that. I think it's a bit absurd to force people to prove all this shit just to go play in a lan. If I was traveling far I would just pretend like I live close to avoid the hassle of doing that. O_o

I officially announce that I will wholeheartedly cheerlead for whoever wants to pay for my entree fee as a Spectator. I will vigorously exemplify this particular gamer with zeal and outrageousness with my pom-poms... crutches, yes crutches.

if I prepay (currently on standby for online qualifier) and I don't get to play, how would I be refunded
The prepay also covers the food/drink/t-shirt and spectator seat at the lan itself. If you aren't planning on going to the lan itself unless you qualify... wtf?

i mean that's understandable, I might not want to go unless I was planning to play since it's so far and all. But as the guidelines state, you pay the 15$ and the risk is(if you wanna call it a risk) that you might not get to play. But as a consolation you still get free food, tshirt, epic event seat, etc.

Ah ok, I thought they were separate, like a tournament buy in for stars lol, this works out really well
I can't believe I just found out about this. I drive by this place every day on my way to work, literally 5 mins from my house. Funny to think so many well renowned players + Day9 are gonna be there. Turns out I'll be working both those days, but I'd love to stop by after. Does anyone know specific times on how late it'll be going on or when specific matches (particularly the final) will be going down? Thanks
I highly suggest adding yourself onto the standby list if you want to play and haven't already done so. I am estimating that 10 spots will open up from no-payers
Diggity/Xeris – how will replacements be chosen for the ro 32? Say if a player is detained by police or eaten by a smoke monster and cannot attend, how/will they be replaced on site at the lan?

Assuming individuals qualified for the round of 32 but fail to show up players will be filled in based on difficulty of their bracket and w:l ratio as determined by Xeris.
I guess I didn't think of it as a "free" spot. The people from ro 64 will have paid $15 to be in the tourney already. I have a sinking feeling that there may be 1 or 2 flakes in the ro 32. So, I was wondering if they were doing a seeding system to fill those probable gaps, or whether they would just let them go blank and a few lucky people get byes.
I guess a better way to phrase it would be,
"Diggity/Xeris, what happens if there are flakes in the ro 32?"
EDIT: haha, Diggity got to it before my response! Thanks for the explanation! I think that's a great way to handle it.
I just noticed I went from standby to RO64! I'm super excited. At what point should I expect to be added to a group, so I know who I am competing against for first qualifiers?
edit - Ugh I am a blind bastard. I was added to group A. Nevermind.

Hey UltraDavid, it's Soniti (that BB player from Denjin). I actually may be bringing some players of other games/casual SC players to spectate as well
I've made contact with ekke, tykonn, but still no contact with BenitoJuarez, which is my matched player, he has paid, but I am having trouble messaging him for the game tomorrow, he has paid, but I cannot, PM him, hopefully he will read this, or he will need to be replaced, which I hope not.
I've decided to help diggity out here. So I have a blog post for some hotels that are within a 2 mile radius of the tourney venue. Also, use it as a place where you can talk about carpooling. I might be able to help people get to the tourney from some hotels but no promises.
So check out my blog post and converse there about hotels and carpool arrangements.
There's a very good food places near this lan center. Just out of reasonable walking distance(bout half a mile). Chipotle(burritos) and Jersey Mikes Subs(subs obviously). Both cost 6-12 dollars depending how you order it. I highly recommend both. If you have a vehicle, further south down victoria ave there's an infamous half price sushi place called Sumo Sushi. I also highly recommend this place.
Since I will most likely attend, I can take anyone who seems like they won't stab/rob me to either of the mentioned places when I go eat. I will either be driving a mini cooper or bronco. So I can carpool 3 skinny people or 3 fat people. ^^

Right but that doesn't mean it ends at 6PM, which is the arbitrary time someone earlier posted.
I just don't get it. The LAN is 14 days away, and a guy is less than 15 minutes past the alleged "deadline" and you can't just let him play.
"Date & Time: The qualifier will be played Saturday July 31st starting at 3pm EST (running until however long it takes to finish). Format: Round robin, BO3 each match, start map: Metalopolis, loser chooses. Contacting opponent: PM Them on TL! (the names listed are their TL accounts). Advancing: Top 2 from each group advance "
copied directly from the thread... O_O;
Still, I think it is valid to say that "however long it takes to finish" kind of implies that it keeps going until it is finished.
Ya, but the point is the start time (3pm EST) ... :p
So editing an inactive hardly used thread on page one like 2days before the day the games are supposed to be played is considered notifying the players? Even after Diggity stated in the thread that since you were not around that he would be running things from the other thread.
Then why wasnt the PM diggity sent me on July 22nd including the time?? Thats Kind of a MAJOR detail to have in a PM sending to players when he stated every other piece of information.
I don't know, why can't you read the op of a thread? I don't know why you wouldn't either read the thread, or ask a question if you were unsure of the time.

This doesn't even really matter. Why can't you just let him play? Theres 2 weeks until the LAN, and you have to admit, you never made an official cut off time for play.
The issue here is that a player that payed isn't being allowed to play. Start time may be 3pm and it may be well noted but there was absolutely no deadline set for when someone would be DQ'ed. If you're going to disqualify a player while not having a "Matches must be started by..." time set then there's a problem.
Also, after reading the entire OP I see no information regarding the qualifiers, was that handled expressly through e-mail and private messages or is there something I'm missing?

I would like to thank Bubba for agreeing to play me, great sportsmanship. I really don't mind not qualifying aslong as i get to play and a fair chance at qualifying.
If it says "until however long it takes to finish" that doesn't mean in 10 days you go "ok, ready to start! Technically I can cause this goes forever until every game is played!"
There is a start time, people won't wait a ridiculous period of time for someone that can't be bothered to say "hey I'm going to be late" at a reasonable time. This transcends this event and is completely the norm for SC/SC2 matches.
I'm glad you got to play your games nero but you've been around long enough to know that if you are late without getting permission you are dq'd unless your opponent is a saint.
I dont know who I should be messaging. I've submitted paypal payment at 2:00 July 31st. There wasnt any notation on either post that the cut off for payment was at a specific time.
Geoff, ya I understand but in all the messeges I recieved it was never stated the start time. I don't understand why I can't just schedule to play this game? Also you dont need to grossly exaggerate with the 10days.. I'm pretty sure until however long it takes to finish was refering that the games would be played however long it took today to get them played. If not please explain to me what that statement is supposed to mean?
There was never a time that was considered the DQ time? Why can't I schedule a time to play the other person in my group?

There was a time, diggity said for today it was by 6 pm est. You can schedule a time to play the other people in your groups, but that was supposed to be done before today.

As I said , I don't mind if you get your games played if your opponents will agree to play you.
Can I get some feedback please... I've paid Via Paypal today the deadline. And just finished my games against Bullfrog and Skinjob. 2 - 0 Mine vs Skinjob 2 - 1 Mine vs Bullfrog.

The deadline was today at noon. (before the start of the qualifier). Not today at large. You were replaced by pgshock. Sorry
The noon deadline was never announced to me or shown on any of the threads regarding the tourney. I was given a deadline of the 31st which is today and I paid today.
Copied from the other thread... from now on PLEASE use the qualifier thread:
Okay Madison , can you pm me your results. You're staying in the first group ...
Secondly,
add : pgshock to Group O add : andrew to Group F
Can all players check the results I have listed in the OP and tell me if there are any discrepancies. Also, PM me further results if anyone has them. Hopefully everyone's issues are now sorted out!
I will be PMing players shortly.

Thanks for your patience guys, I had a big family emergency yesterday and I got home late today so there was quite a bit of chaos, but I hope things are solved now
Hey I would like to come and spectate. I might be bringing friends, but I haven't heard back from them yet. Do I need to pay the $15 before I go or when I get there? (if it comes down to it I can always pay paypal from my phone there i guess :/)
We can still go if we paid but if we lost right? or do i need to let you know i'm goin to be a spectator? just want to make sure, and how are you dealin with back ups in case people back out?

There will be an alternates list. If you already paid 15 you are set for food/drink/tshirt on site.
I poped in this lan center 2 days ago because I live only 15 minutes away from it. It was very respectable. Very clean Yogurt shop in the front with about 20 computers in the back. Very clean establishment. Accidentally talked to the owner without knowing it. He was extremely nice and said him and his brother run it(his brother was working the yogurt part). The back was fairly small for a lan tournament event so I asked him how many people he anticipated. He said about 100-200. I asked where will they all fit! He said there will be a stage built in the parking lot.
So all in all, should be a real nice event. There is also a Vons(safeway) next to it, so you can buy any snacks/drinks that won't be provided there.
Sir? Diggity, can you please edit my listed id "CopernicusToss" to say "CoffeeToss"? as per the pm I sent you. Im in the list of spectators, #7. Thanks!

If I didn't know about this event and I was driving through Ventura and saw an outdoor movie size screen with SC2 being played on it I would poop my pants.
Hey I was wondering, do the players who qualified get access to computers to play sc2 all day? Because I'm sure there will be a lot of down time before/after events where we'd want to be just practicing.

I did just speak to Chris from Green Forest, I wasn't able to get a clear cut answer to this question. Perhaps Diggity could shed more light into it.

I'll be very disappointed if I see any of the competitors using any cheese tactics! Anyone good enough to qualify for a tournament should not be cheesing!
This means no Protoss probes sneaking into a dark corner of an opponents base early in the game, setting up a pylon, and beginning mass production of photon cannons! That is BS!!!!!

C'mon, the potential for cheese is the only thing that keeps players honest. If nobody every 6-8 pooled in ZvZ I could 16 hatch every game without scouting!
What are the maps for the first rounds (still metal?), also are all ladder maps available for picking or are DO/ KR off limits?
I am working on that right now with Xeris
Other FYIs:
1) Right now they have enlarged the spectator area but reduced the number of computers to 12. I am going to try to talk them back up to 16 to make this run more smoothly. Just a heads up though.
2) If you bring mouse drivers they will install them for you. Otherwise you can use your own mouse and keyboard (optional)
3) Round 1 is MSL round of 32 style (double win advance/double loss elim)

Bummer, if I had know this on Saturday I wouldn't have put my laptop in for service. Would it be helpful for people to bring them? I figure it might not, since you would want people on the provided rigs.
So I heard day[9] doesnt even have a ride to this shindig yet. If thats the case I figure others don't have a ride either, so I'll offer transportation for 3 others from the Chino / Pomona / Ontario area if there is anyone interested, if your anywhere off of the freeways on the way to Ventura (134, 101 i think it is, even the 10 or the 210) I'll accept that too.
Idk where day[9] lives but if someone wants to pass the message on to him I'll go out of my way to pick him up lol
PM me if you need a lift and ill reply asap to get the pertinent info from you
I recently went to green forest for an all nighter(every saturday). They have the nicest staff. Their boba is pretty good too. I ordered a milk tea boba and had to get another latter that night! Their computers ran smooth and they had many people coming and going(never completely full, usually 10/14) and even 2-3 girls at one point. The only thing this place is missing is a 1945 neo geo arcade game and some cute asian employees. Female ones, they already have cute male ones ^^.

It's a lot of fun. I go when I work in the morning on Saturday, that way I can be there a while for a relatively good price. A few good players there, a couple better than me (I'm not that great though) so we always have fun.
Am I allowed to bring my own computer since the number got cut down? It also has streaming software installed so I can stream live if you don't have that set up.
I think day[9] is going to stream at least some of it, either with diggity or diggity is streaming some and day[9] is streaming some, it's not really clear yet. I just know there will be some streaming going on, especially the final.
Just general montage stuff. I told him to get shots of the viewing areas, the finals, maybe some shots of Diggity and Day9 casting, if there are player introductions, stuff like that. No plans for interviews or anything, just keeping it simple.
Hokay so I'm flying in and staying in a place called Santa Paula for the event. Does anyone going to the event have a car that is willing to pick me up on Friday and/or take me back? It's about 15 minutes from the event. Not going to have access to a car, not looking to take a shuttle or cab that far would be monstrous, will pay for gas.
How's the air circulation, and more importantly, the temperature in those progamer booths? Socal weather and boxed enclosures sounds friggin HOT AS HELL

I find it odd that four first-time posters with the exact same message (RSVP to spectate) all posted within minutes of one another. I'm going to this thing myself and I want it to be a nerd-party-go-nuts, but no need for artificial thread bumping, and a pretty terrible deception at that.
Thats all speculation on your part. This event is already big as it is, there is no need on any of our parts for the extra "artificial" bumping. Don't worry about it and we'll all have a blast
All razer mice allow you to save your driver settings as a .conf (configuration) file, which you can use to easily set up drivers on other computers (for LANs such as this one etc). Will you guys (green forest) let us bring in a usb drive with the .conf or let us e-mail the .conf to ourselves and download it ?
Of course the green forest admins would be there the whole time to make sure nothing fishy gets on the computer.

Hello, Good question!
20 staffs worked together for 2 months. You will see the rules once you get here. Basically there will be 2 computer technicians standing by, installing any drivers you need to play on our computers. You can bring CD, USB Cable, etc... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bracket Controller(2)- Controls the bracket whoever wins or loses the tournament. And place 32 offline gamers to the . Controls obs.
Gen Manager(1)- Crowd Control. Decision maker. Controls full security
Hall Manager(1)- After registration, does interviews and takes the gamers to the bracket controller. Once the gamers are placed, hall manager is responsible for gamers equipments. Once game is done hall manager is responsible for the post-game interview for the winners.
Hall Clerk(5)- Responsible for offline qualifiers and spectators registration. Responsible for food, drinks, t-shirts and coupons
Security(6)- Controls crowd, spectators and offline qualifiers.
Camera Manager(2)- Controls the camera and live streaming
Interviewer(1)- Interview offline qualifiers and winners.
Computer Tech(2)- Responsible for the equipment’s drivers. (installing) --------------------------------------------------------------------
so after reviewing who was playing and who was going to be there (day9 and diggity aaaaaaaghhh so much fun commentating) im sooooo super excited to see such quality showing up.

And live casting equals live streaming? I don't think so. And I asked Diggity whether there's going to be a livestream coverage and he replied with "no". So it most likely IS some last minute decision ;P
I was there at the tournament today, it was good to watch the high level players in action.
And I suspected it but this confirmed it for me, a Starcraft tournament is a nerd convention. 90% of the people there fell somewhere in the nerd category, from mild to severe. I was more in the mild end, I felt. I was also probably the oldest person there, or at least in the top 5, I think!
So it was fun in a couple ways!
I'll probably go back tomorrow to watch the finals and see if I win anything in the drawings for computer parts.
I was there today aswell. QXC needs to commentate more, his commentary for iNcontroL vs KawaiiRice was hilarious! Going tomorrow as well and can't wait to more Starcraft 2!!!

Fair enough but the English is wrong. You can't cast in the same locale, you can commentate though. The definition in this context is about pushing outwards, like a net or 'broadcast'.
Still, having to go out of your way to track it is disappointing, but for any stream of this calibre I think we're all thankful. And the next time you guys do this I'm sure the stream will have proven your success to all those who couldn't go or who were on the fence this time.

Big thanks to all that participated/ helped/ observed or just hung around. Thanks to qxc and PainUser for donating their time and expertise. Also thanks to the accommodating staff of Green Forest Cafe, who let us play until 2AM to get through the semi-finals.
For the spectators: Viewing is free but please help the community out by chipping in 15$ which will get you: food, drinks, and FREE T - shirts with registered gamers’ names on the back
Definitely an awesome planned event, shame for their being no LAN thus far in sc2..Blizzard needs to get on that.
Aside from this, it was a bit unexpected when 15.00 was required, as we understood it was up for offering donation(not trying to be a cheapass, some of us are barely getting by, and wouldn't have even second guessed contributing if I had planned on eating/wanting the shirt); additionally viewing areas were a bit difficult to watch as the screen in the front was flooded with light, and the screens in the back were clogged with people attempting to watch with little to no seating.
Anyway, great to see the community flourishing, just wish spacing was appropriate and certain logistics worked out prior to going live.
Must say, Day9 and PainUser are both freaking tall. I know Day9 says it all the time on his stream but man you just don't expect it when u see him stand up and then he towers over my own 6 foot self.
GreenForest did a sick job with the computers and then the stage for the finals, all in all a very sweet event!
Also, must say it was totally awesome getting to meet all the pros (QXC FIGHTING!!), i never expected iNControl to be such a hulking dude, his arms are bigger than most peoples heads... inKa was also super chill, was glad to see him representing toss at the finals. And i must say watching Kawaiirice's fingers move at an average of 400 APM was among the sicker things i've ever seen, theres alot of own coming from that lil asian kid.
Gotta give alot of credit to Psionic, he didn't rage at all when QXC kicked his ass, and he actually played extremely well and even got off an EPIC nuke against a good zerg player.
Oh and last but not least Diggity was a total baller doing all the casting on day 1, was really fun standing next to him and getting to hear him and Day9 cast live.

well when you have 100 people in in a 40 person room...
great event can't wait for the next and possibly events in vegas or santa barbara
is anyone still playing at the lan? I am so sad that i didnt get to play with day 9 there but I didnt have a place to sleep. We are posted up an hour away and want to get some games in though!
<-- Daniel from esunited.net and just wanted to say I just got home and had an awesome awesome time at this event. Big thanks to the Green Forest owners, staff, and diggity for hosting and organizing this whole thing. Obviously I'd also like to thank all the competitors and spectators that showed up and viewed over the live stream. They had some technical difficulties and I'm sad that the stream didn't work out 100% but hopefully the content can be salvaged or at least re-casted at a later time.
Made a lot of new friends and hope to keep in touch so we can all expand on the esports scene. Both Green Forest staff and I got lots of pictures and interviews with some of the competitors so there should be some awesome content coming out within the next days-weeks depending on how long it takes to process and upload.

Vegas or Santa Barbara?, lets get some SB SC yeaaaaah:D
I had a great time at the event on Saturday (unfortunately couldn't make it on Sunday), had fun playing my group play games and getting reminded that my ZvP is terrible by Newport. It was great to put faces to so many names.
BIG THANKS TO: Green Forest and the whole team of staff there, they were working their asses off with no complaints to some pretty demanding (although fairly) players. Diggity Xeris
I had a blast doing my first ever live commentary!!! The best part of it was some people actually seemed to enjoy it to my surprise. The qxc v machine match was very entertaining and very tough to call. QXC had WAAAAAAAY too many drops to follow at one time although after a while I just started assuming that if I only saw one drop, I was missing yet another one. There was one game where I literally thought Machine was crashing through, qxc barely held it off and then Machine called gg, it turned out that qxc was dropping at the same time!!!
I had a good time there although I was only able to attend on saturday. I'm hoping green forest plans another one of these events sometime in the next few months. There were a few logistical problems and things like that, hopefully it'll be worked out for next time. More chairs and maybe a 3rd TV in the back room for viewing the matches.
And we'll have a better and more reliable internet stream too.
But not bad at all for the first SC2 tournament like this.
Had an AWESOME time this weekend. Thanks Green Forest E-Café! Thanks everyone! Watched fantastic games, saw some awesome people (new and old friends), made some signs for the lulz, ate some delicious sushi... several times. XD
Whoever asked if I'm 'QXC's hot Korean girlfriend'... No, but thanks. It became a running joke... especially with EG. Ahahaha. *Serious face.* >:[
I am a good friend of the 'stink terran,' so... back off! Yeah!
Huuuuge congratulations to PainUser! Amazing games all the way to the end. I should have just rooted for you the whole time. I mean, QXC isn't very good (j/k j/k! <3 QXC). Really cool to see your dad see you win. I don't know why it's such a big deal to me. It's just one of those things... He 'finally understands' progaming. D'aww, go you! It was sweet.
Not gonna lie: the setup for the finals was soooo sick. At first I was like, 'wtfbbq,' but NO. It was AMAZING. PLEASE do it again, and pay the finalists to fake slow motion when they get out of the car next time, too, thanks.
Special thanks to AWEAdam for driving us up to the event and being awesome with his curiously murderous permanent smile and to the waiter who served me sushi on saturday for being ungodly hot (call me).
Looking forward to the next event. I'll be competing at MLG Raleigh, actually, so I hope to see you guys again!

I spoke with the owner, he says he's hoping to do one every 6 months, and wants the next one to have bigger prizes!

You forgot me @_@ (Daniel at esunited). I'm processing and uploading your interview right now
seemed like an awesome event, but for the people watching it on stream we were very disappointed with the technical difficulties throughout the event but that just means room for improvement next yearrrr!!
EvasivE, we understand your concerns and we know that there were technical difficulties.. However, we're all working on salvaging some video to post as VODs. I'll certainly update if/when they are posted

And you as well Daniel ^^ Your contributions to the esports community will never be forgotten. Keep up the good work sir.
Thanks everyone for making the event so amazing. Especially all the guys at Green Forest. Also thanks everyone who helped my pops understand what SC2 is all about. He really enjoyed meeting everyone.
I'm sure if you search through psyonic reaver's justin.tv you'll be able to find something somewhere.. but I think they're being worked on in the mean time to be posted in a presentable manner. Once that happens, everyone will be able to watch them easily.
Incredible Event! I had a lot of fun and met a lot of other players with the same passion for the game I have. Big shouts to the greenforest employees for doing above and beyond to please everyone, and even letting us throw an extra small tournament the first night. I'll be coming back for sure.
Great games from all the players involved in the tourney, I hope to watch some of the prelim matches I missed while I was at work on Sunday. Gratz to PainUser for taking the cup.
Great job from all the casters, Day9 and Diggity did such a great job, there wasn't a second that went by that the crowd wasn't entertained by laughter or anxious from the great tactics described on the screen.
The only downside was hearing people stole keyboards, and spectators leaving trash all over the place and not bringing back chairs. I even saw someone had tagged on the back of one of the chairs. Greenforest did an amazing job with the tournament and spent a lot of time and money setting up the show. The least you can do is show a little respect and clean up after yourselves, or am I expecting too much from gamers?

I am going go try to get an estimate for damages and create a donation drive to help greenforest out.
I've hosted semi huge LANs several times. People will not clean up after themself, some stuff will be broken, and keyboards \ mouses will be stolen. What we did ? Basically had a disclaimer for signing up that we where not responsible for computer equipment. And cleaning up we just had to do after the LAN. Vandalism sadly happens, and we had to pay the venue from the money we earned.

Highlights are now available! It wasn't ideal internet connection so many games were lost due to disconnects/random acts of God. I saved what I could. Enjoy!
It's finally time for Electronic Sports United to have a contest for the Pro Gamer Autographed Posters. We're giving away 6 autographed posters from names like Evil Genius', EG.iNkA, Zelniq, Root-Gaming's qxc, FnaticMSI's KawaiiRice, PainUser, etc. etc. These posters were gathered from the Green Forest: Socal Lan 5 and had the Pro Gamers autograph them on-site.
