TL SC2 Open #2 FAQ
What is the prize pool? How is it distributed? The total prizes are $200: 1st - $100, 2nd - $50, 3rd/4th - $25.
Who is playing in the tournament? Where is the bracket? The current registered player list is located here. Please note this is not a final list, as check in is not completed yet. The bracket will be released when check in completed.
Will replays be released? Replay pack will be released after the tournament concludes. You are free to cast the replays afterward, but please credit the event and link to TL in the description.
Will there be a live stream? It will be part live and part replay. Pre-approved TL Streamers will have the option of streaming matches live before the Ro16 if both players agree. If either player refuses, there will be no live stream for that match. From the Ro16 on, all matches will be cast through replays (distributed to the pre-approved streamers). The Semifinals and Finals will be cast from replays by Chill and djWHEAT.
Ro512 to Ro32 = Live casts by pre-approved streamers IF both players agree. Ro16 & Ro8 = Replay casts by pre-approved streamers. Semis & Finals = Official TL cast by Chill and djWHEAT.
Why cast Ro16 through replays? We chose to do it this way because there is no method to 100% ensure player integrity when there is a live stream. Currently we cannot effectively delay the stream, and we do not have a way of checking if a player has it open in the background or is receiving messages from a friend watching.
But other tournaments cast live, can't you just trust the players? We have always felt that competitive fairness is the most important thing in events with money prizes. All TL events follow these guidelines, and while we understand a live stream is preferable, we will not compromise our fairness standards for a marginal increase in viewer excitement. In the future, if there is a way to delay the stream or ensure nobody cheats off it, then we will cast live.
No observers? Players can say "No" to streamers? We feel that many tournaments are burdened with multiple observers in game. This leads to competitive fairness issues, lag, and other logistical problems. Our goal is to make the tournament experience as enjoyable and smooth as possible for the players, while simultaneously maximizing entertainment for our users. All fans can watch the casts during the tournament or watch VODs and replays afterward.
Who are the referees and approved streamers? The full referee and streamer list will be available to players after check in. When the tournament is running, the streams will be on the sidebar. Each will be streaming a different match. As stated earlier, semis and finals will be casted from replays only by the official TL channel.
What if things go terribly wrong? We hope the TL SC2 Open #2 is an enjoyable and entertaining experience for both players and fans. However, if things don't go according to plan, we hope you guys understand that this is our first large scale open SC2 event. It is a learning process for us, and we reserve the right to modify rules or procedures to fit the circumstances.
Full Rules + Show Spoiler [Show Full Rules] +Tournament will be held on Bnet NA Server. Note: In game observers:No observers outside of designated TL casters. Their IDs will be listed in the rules here. If your opponent tries to have observers, you must stop the game and contact a referee. This means you can leave if he invites his friends or just starts the game. It is your responsibility not to allow it. Format- 512 Man Single Elimination
- Tournament will be held on the Battle.net NA Server on Saturday, Oct 02 4:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00).
- Bracket will be displayed on TeamLiquid. Participants must log in to view opponent NA IDs and Codes to contact their opponents for matches.
- Players must contact each other through Bnet chat and arrange a host (unless Ro16 or later).
- From Ro16 on, TL referees will host the game.
- Winners will report results and upload replays after each round.
- If a game's results are disputed (both players report win), Tournament Referees will check replays and determine who advances.
- Best-of-1 until Round of 16 (Round 1-5 is Bo1).
- Best-of-3 Round of 16, Round of 8, and Round of 4 (Round 6-8 is Bo3).
- Best-of-5 Finals (Round 9).
TL Open Rules- Any violation of TL Open Tournament Rules may result in game forfeit and future suspension from TL Opens and other TL events.
- No cheating in any way. This includes any sort of hack or illegal program and receiving messages from friends watching the stream. This also includes account sharing or playing under an ID that you did not register under.
- Players must set status to busy during tournament matches.
- Players may not have stream open in the background when playing.
- Players must arrive within 10 minutes of the end of the previous round. After 10 minutes, every 10 minutes is a game loss for the player who is not present. Ex: with one player present for 20 minutes, 1-0, 30 minutes, 2-0.
- Players may change race between games.
- Players may not play in another tournament that conflicts with TL Open play time. Referees may disqualify players that delay the TL Open due to scheduling conflicts.
- Referees may warn and disqualify players for chat violations, including excessive or abusive insults toward players, observers, or referees.
Maps and Host Rules- Games will be hosted on one of the approved maps.
- In a Bo1, host must create on designated map for that round.
- In a Bo3, first game will be played on designated map, loser picks the next map from the pool.
- Maps cannot be played twice in a series.
- It is the player's responsibility to check the map pool. If a player protests an incorrect map after playing a game on it, the game will not be replayed.
- Map Pool: Meta, Xel, Delta, Blistering, Scrap, LT
- Note that Kulas, Desert, and Steppes are NOT in the map pool
- Round 1 (512) Bo1 - Delta Quadrant
- Round 2 (256) Bo1 - Xel'Naga Caverns
- Round 3 (128) Bo1 - Metalopolis
- Round 4 (64) Bo1- Lost Temple
- Round 5 (32) Bo1 - Scrap Station
- Round 6 (16) Bo3 - Blistering Sands
- Round 7 (8) Bo3 - Delta Quadrant
- Round 8 (4) Bo3 - Xel'Naga Caverns
- Round 9 (2) Bo5 - Metalopolis
Disconnects and Lag- If your opponent is disconnecting, players should take a screenshot of the lag screen and contact the tournament referee.
- If a disconnect happens in the first five minutes and there has been no player-opponent contact, game will be replayed.
- In a Bo1, if a disconnect happens after player-opponent contact, disconnecting player receives a loss. The Referee will make the final decision after reviewing the screenshot and replay.
- In a Bo3, if a disconnect happens after player-contact, player must contact Referee immediately and Referee will decide how to proceed after reviewing the evidence.
- Referees and Tournament Administrators reserve the right to overturn results or award wins based on evidence they see.
- If there is persistent unplayable lag (lag screen comes up more than once in a short time), players must contact a Referee who will decide how to proceed.
Coverage and Observer Rules- TL will officially cast both semifinals and the finals.
- No observers are allowed in games other than those designated by TL.
- TL will designate "approved" observers who will be allowed to observe and broadcast games.
- TL referees are also allowed to be in game.
- There will only be a maximum of one observer in each match.
- If the host invites a non-approved observer to the game and starts, game does not count.
- If game lags with an approved observer in game, that observer must leave at the request of a player. If a TL referee is in game, he will make this decision.
- Observers and broadcasters are subject to the same rules for cheating and abuse as players. TL may suspend observers from future TL events if violations occur.
- If you would like to be an official observer / broadcaster for the Altitude TL Open, please apply by PMing Hot_Bid. The more information you can provide about your stream, average viewers, and casting experience, the better.

Kiwikaki is out lost against Taurent.

Mothership strat was an interesting idea. It obviously didn't work, but I didn't see the rest of the game outside of the final push to see what sense it made. Seems risky just up front though. Good FF and timing push by Taurent.
|
|
Yeah seems hard to pull off the mothership thing if your natural is so open (Xel Naga) and you're playing a good player. He should almost always be able to take advantage of the timing where the mothership isn't done yet.

MorroW lost in the first round? Wow, I wonder what happened.

Definitely a risky thing to do in a best of 1 unless you know for certain you are outclassed by your opponent and need to pull off a gimmick to win.

Oh okay. Thanks. I totally didn't see the numbers there.

Gah. Was up all night watching the GSL. Forgot to set my alarm again and woke up literally 10 minutes after the start time and ran to my computer but was too late for the check in.

Kiwi lost to it against LagLovah last night in some showmatch or tourney. Must have figured he'd give it a shot himself
|
Taurent beat Kiwikaki and LzGamer pretty solid.
|
Wow, looking at the field that's left.. It is VERY protoss heavy.
|
Well, kiwikaki put himself in a bit of a hole with some mothership nonsense. But Taurent did a nice job of scouting it and attacking before it came out.

Noni vs Lalush is gonna be fun. Whos gonna cast that one?

i believe all games ro16 onwards are casted from replays to prevent cheating. so you might be waiting a while for those casts.

WTB epic Z v P !

Pretty sure lalush vs nony will be next on ragequit.tv. (Edit: That's what Ipp is saying, anyway. Yeah, first game's coming now.)
|
Wow nony is playing so terrible.. throwing away high templars, not using forcefields despite having a billion sentries.
|
Yeah, that looked pretty gross. X_X
|
noni's control is absolutely horrible. keeps suiciding templar, engaging just before upgrades, missing storms.
|
And then he left because he didn't know it was a bo3 or something?
|

that is a gold level mistake, not a top pros. thats no excuse. also even when he had storm he ran in templars headfirst into the zerg in thefinal battle, only got 2 meaningful storms off.
the bad aftertaste from that game isnt helped at all by irritating commentating sorry for being a dick but if you have a speech impediment it might be best not to be commentating on big tournies

Still he attack moved the high templars to the opponent's forces... which is a pretty elementary mistake regardless of whether he expected the research to finish or not.

Game of Nony vs lalush was so anticlimax. Was looking forward to game two, then suddently there was no game two... I hate this replay casting, its so shit, takes away all the fun=[
I know they wanna keep it safe and i would understand if there was alot of money on the line , but to do replay casting for tournament with 200$ in prices is just stupid.

Nony

Why are brackets not getting updated anymore? :/ Is there a reason?
EDIT: They just got updated and I look like a fool.

Nony would been told it was BO3 if it had been casted for sure.
My second point was that there are tournaments all over the place doing live casts with more money involved. Live cast just makes it so much more fun for the viewers, and taking a small risk like that to make it more fun for the viewers is preferable.
And btw, nobody said cheating is fine, stop making stuff up and come up with solid agruements instead of sarcasm bulllshit.

How is a live cast "so much more fun" anyway? Most of the times when I watch a go4sc2 final/semi there is lag and the players complain, that's not a lot of fun as a viewer.

I've always had this theory that Nony doesn't actually play SC2 and is just waiting for the most standard builds to evolve so he can come in with better mechanics and be among the top. I've never seen anything but astoundingly mediocre play from him, and he was so much better at BW that there is just no explanation other than sheer inactivity

Im thinking it would have come up in the lobby before the game or someone would have messaged him instantly after they saw he wrote "gl in the tournament" , or someone would have called him instantly after he logged off.
Ofc we cant know for sure, but it seems likely.

First off, casters doesnt know what games they gonna get, so you gotta switch around 3 casters all the time to see if they have started casting what you would like to see. If it would been livecast, they would say what they are gonna cast next etc.. Secondly people look at their game history and write spoilers in chats.
Its also easy to tell that the casters know how long the game is gonna be, so when its close to the end they start "predicting" the winner and you know then its not gonna be some epic comeback.
Last but not least- you know its not live. How does it feel to watch a recorded game of soccer even tho you dont know who won?

nony is actually one of the rare players that tries new stuff out, its just 1 loss.. dont look too much into it
oh yea and theres a limit to how much you can grow mechanicly in sc2 as opposed to sc1, the skill gap that existed between players in sc1 will never happen in sc2

If it would been livecast, they would say what they are gonna cast next etc.. Except Ipp knew like 30 minutes in advance that he was casting lalush vs nony.

Yeah or they could just have a pretty good idea of who's winning when the game's one-sided, and be able to reasonably predict the winner. Your evidence will be the same, but the explanation is pretty different. It's up to you to decide what the better explanation is! (Hint: Not yours.)

Hotbid just announced it on stream; we have the players playing on guest accounts this time around so GL finding out those details and spoiling the results!

Instead of using guest accounts, why not just designate someone to leave first and play on those locked maps that can't have match history viewed. Players can just gg to signal defeat, and just not leave, but have the designated person to leave first, so it will always show as a win for one player and always a loss for the other, which doesn't spoil anything.

About 2 more sentries and it wouldn't work. Forcefield to cut the zerg army, keep colossi back, infestors won't be able to reach them

Nice series. I guess I would have been playing a few games myself if they played TvT. Two good players off-racing is quite interesting imo

Two players off race, zerg vs protoss. Pretty much a given whos gonna win
Impressive game two by sjow, but shows in game 3 that he doesnt have to think about early pressure as terran very often, very poor defending. queen 4 lings 5 drones taken by 2 zealots and a probe?

It was worse than that.He lost his queen when he easily could have saved it and then lost 5 drones to a single zealot when his roaches were away from his base.If he just attacked instead of coming back with the 3 roaches he could've done a lot of damage :/.

Sjow didn't play well in games 1 (pure ling/hydra vs stalker/sentry/colossus... lol) and 3 (handling 2 gate poorly and bad spine placement) and Select really should not have attack with one colossus in game 2.
Really liked Lalush's first game though, despite the late range.

the game on xelnaga was extremely lagged/delayed. My colossi in front was because I couldn't control them. So not saying I would of outright won that game but My obs scouted his spire and I knew I had a perfect window.
2nd game was just botched.
My micro must be pretty bad if I won previous games being down 50+ supply in P mirror.
Regardless lalush played solid and deserved that series.

Why did you make 4-5 phoenixes in the second game rather than 2 voidrays? Having 3 voidrays would've done some serious damage before his hydras are finished, and could've defended that roach push.

This drives me bonkers, and I see it all the time in TvZ these days. Why do Terrans bother to attack roaches with their hellions? Why not run by? You never saw BW pros attacking dragoons with their vultures...the goal should be to slaughter drones no??
|
Select is running a TvZ clinic right now. He should just throw in a reaper just to rub some salt on the wound.

So terrans harass allmost ended the game. Medivac hellions harass is so incredible strong, why the hell didnt rainbow use em on fruitseller is my question.

Select has insane hellion controll. Maby it has to be standard to throw in spinecrawlers in the mineral line since roaches/queens are just too slow to defend against incredible mobile hellions

He just kept pounding him. I wonder if lalush wasn't a bit to comfortable after doing awesome reaction to the bunker rush. I mean I'd say select was quite a bit behind after it failed, but his hellion harrass was just way to effective. Spines would've definitely helped stop it from doing so crazy dmg.

why is this finalist zerg not spreading creep? 4 hatcheries and no creep spread.

wise words lalush, wise words.

Stupid words lalush, stupid words.

Lalush over committed in that game. Well it's not the first time he's done it. When he has the advantage he just starts throwing his units away into the Terran defense.
|
That was silly to put his name out there with that comment.
|
Wasn't Lalush being nice to Select, saying (since he's korean, sort of, korean american), he plays proper zvt, and he also said gg.
I'm confuzzled
|
|
Lalush is correct, no europe/us zerg stands a chance against good terrans atm, you need to be able to do what fruitdealer does, and that requires insane skill.
|
On October 03 2010 07:46 UnholyRai wrote: why is this finalist zerg not spreading creep? 4 hatcheries and no creep spread.
Not enough multitasking.. you could see that he was just putting constant aggression on the terran and trying to delay push with infestors, and trying to defend his expos from drops. On top of that he has to inject larva and expand/tech. It's pretty hard to do all this and still spread creep regularly.
|
lol completely outplayed, lalush really need to expand and spread creep more and push for the late game. Not flood units in to bunkers and siege tanks for 10 mins olol
|
Nice play by select and gj lalush in getting so far. Good cast as well jiji.
|
Lalush is a very impatient zerg that likes to throw away any advantage he gets, then when the Terran comes back he blames imbalance.
Not trying to flame him, Im just stating his general tendency in threads on TL and inside the game.
|
I'd like to see SeleCT play Fruit.
|
Yeah SeleCT played well, GG! SeleCT is the king of TL tournaments ^^.
|
Lalush just played badly, throwing units away to try and end it early. Should have sat back, defended, droned up and rolled with hive tech when the T push actually came.
And no, that doesn't take a korean.
|
On October 03 2010 07:49 GenoZStriker wrote: Lalush over committed in that game. Well it's not the first time he's done it. When he has the advantage he just starts throwing his units away into the Terran defense. Aye, the last game I'd say lalush threw it kinda. I mean he defended against that reaper harass very well which ended in him far ahead. Trying to pound a fortified position like that... esp. with that back bunker owning things up... It felt like he'd have the game in his hands if he had just played passively, spread creep and made sure to be alert against drops.
|
On October 03 2010 07:46 UnholyRai wrote: why is this finalist zerg not spreading creep? 4 hatcheries and no creep spread. This is why people think ZvT needs major tweaks: Zerg while staying alive, not letting Terran play safe NEEDS to spread creep. There were many discussions about creep. People are starting to think that creep is more of handicap, than a proper help. All those things take a lot of APM. Also,I think those Ultras with a bit more lings and 5~ roaches could turn the tables,sadly... 3-0.

Lalush should take a lesson from off-race Sjow on creep spread. Did you see his insane creep spread in his matches?
Select played very well, but the first couple of matches must have been very disheartening for Lalush. He handled most of Select's harassment very well and he still was behind. It's so hard to get ahead as zerg unless you are a superman like Fruitdealer.
|

SeleCT showed some awesome and quick unit control, never missing a beat with his stutter micro or hellions.
And on scrap station, when you meet 4 hellions in the middle of the map you should know what's coming up next and that your roaches should move back to your mineral lines instead of the terran wall.
EDIT: Just read on wikipedia that SeleCT won the WCG in dawn of war of all things. Twice even.

lol what? Sorry, LaLush doesn't have replay maphack to help him fully assess whether he has an advantage or not. I'm pretty sure that when he was banking on his mutas coming out and he gets his spire sniped in half a second by marauders that he doesn't feel in control.
My opinion is that hydras would have done very well instead of 6 extra infestors. I know TL thinks they are worthless in ZvT right now, but I'm pretty sure that's all it would have taken.
I am not sure why LaLush loves roaches so much. Seems speedlings would help him a lot more.
As to his final comment; whatever. I'm not sure exactly why terran has so many fast, hard hitting harass units. Seems like zerg would be the race of choice for those attributes seeing that T has so many spells/defensive abilities.
Kind of boring finals to watch. Maybe LaLush would have handled that harass better with speedlings and a couple crawlers.
