Stephen A. Smith poised to become richest talent in ESPN history
Quite frankly, Stephen A. Smith is going to be richer.
Smith is in line to become the highest-paid on-air person at ESPN by potentially boosting his salary to $10 million per year, according to people with knowledge of the upcoming negotiations.
The Post spoke with multiple executives and agents to figure out the number that Smith could garner, and the consensus was in the $8 million-to-$10 million range. By comparison, Mike Greenberg is paid $6.5 million to host “Get Up!,” which is the network’s highest publicly known salary. PTI’s Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser are believed to be in Greenberg’s neighborhood.
Isnt it sad that this hack is getting valued this much? I mean as a media professional myself I get the schtick. What troubles me is the deliberate dumbing down and stupidification of cultural narrative, in this case sports analysis. Even JJ is doing a better job throwing controversial bombs and hot takes for everyone to fight on. Although I notice JJ has a rather shy personality to do the fake outrage gimmick in person front of the camera. I guess, SAS being as popular as he is, people get what they deserve.

I see the NBA is fully embracing the "the fans are bigots" mentality that seems to be sweeping entertainment.

You do realize the time of day when his shows air right? He's popular among unemployed men and (maybe) college students. This had (maybe still is) one of ESPN's blind spots where they continually failed to monetize podcasts. Podcasts are still small money, but you can actually sell them better if you are saavy because its a much more affluent (employed) demo.

My point is to be paid that much to say that garbage that SAS does is a crime against humanity in whatever context.

He's the Trump of espn, doens't know wtf he is talking about, 60 % of the country hate him. But the 40% love him so much that it doens't matter how many times he says absolutely wrong shit they keep on loving him.
Bledsoe got kicked out 3 mins into the game with Phi tonight. If those two teams meet in a 7 game series it is going to get nasty!

AAF ending is sad, I’ve already read about 4 guys I never heard of getting signed in the NFL. They really could use a Developement league. It just has to start small scale and with NFL money.

Mia sure wanted this game bad and played physical and hard. But the Raps just too much horse power. And MIP of the year was a monster in OT. Looking forward to playoff BBall.

Yeah. Although the West still outpowers the East, the balance has been restored within conferences not that in the West OKC, UTA, DEN, and POR have stepped up, with the sneakily strong SAS and HOU not to be underestimated. In the East, PHI, MIL, and TOR have truly come of age, with the young BKN, ORL, and IND on their heels, plus some sketchy BOS and DET to make it interesting. This is more than Lebron transferring to the West, in fact scratch that, the same could be said even if he remained in the East, I think the top 4 East teams would destroy Lebron in the playoffs had he stayed.
As an aside, Wall needs to go. I have always found him iffy, like someone with too much chip on his shoulder and being disproportionately arrogant about his talent/value. WAS needs to build around Beal and get another A-level superstar (Durant is from the city, so there's that.)
|
wall is about as untradeable as it gets. not only is he going to make shit ton of money, that contract hasnt even started yet. i dont think wash can even throw in enough sweeteners to trade him at this point in his career, if you take into consideration everything about wall (attitude, health).
and i dont think of durant as a guy who would want to play in his hometown

Yap. KD to NY seems written in stone already, unless some wild postseason maneuvers happen.
Wall seems like a first-class asshole tbh, which greatly diminishes his already weak star power.

I'm not some fundamentalist who thinks the Eurostep needs to be banned, or they should call them all for carries on every possession, they just have let it go too far and I want good defense to be rewarded when it is played. There are good eurosteps and there are pilgrimages (Embiid, Giannis, etc.) I agree. The league should tip the balance back to defensive plays and not call foul on every baiting shooting motion. There was a foul called on Harden last night when he "elbowed" the defenders armpit, totally ridiculous. Those fake shots into freethrows are the worst calls in the league. Why is it possible for refs to identify when a shooter kicks his legs out artificially (offensive foul) but not to identify a contorted shot only attempted in order to get freethrows? When a shooter jumps forward or launches his arms forward into the defenders arms it should be a no call or offensive foul. That shit is just ridicules and ugly.

The Wizards have always been talkers. From the Arenas version to the Wall version, they keep bragging about being the best team in the east without ever accomplishing much. They've made it out of the first round twice maybe? They definitely are Washington DCs team in that regard.
They also that one-sided rivalry with Lebron. lol

Are you going to have to eat every fucking chicken?

If htat is true, and it likely is, that is embarrassing as hell, whats wrong with him. But good for the Lakers.

REJOICE!!! REJOICE!!! REJOICE!!! HALLELUUUUUJAH!
MAGIC IS FINALLY OUT OF THE LAKERS!!!

https://lebronwire.usatoday.com/2019/04/09/lebron-james-was-put-off-by-magic-saying-he-didnt-want-cleveland-all-over-again/
Although LeBron James aligned with Magic Johnson last summer and signed up to be on a team built in Magic’s vision, some early season comments by Johnson rubbed James the wrong way.
Specifically, it was a statement that Johnson made amid questions about the Lakers early in the season in which he said that he didn’t want LeBron’s role to be like ‘Cleveland all over again.’ In an exhaustive report on the Lakers season by The Athletic’s Bill Oram, James’ feelings on that statement were revealed for the first time.
