How do you feel after dramatically grabbing your victory and advancing to the finals?
I didn't think I would be able to make it to the finals like this but after I kept on beating my opponents one by one, I was able to get to this point. I feel like I've just died and came back to life.
You gave away three games to Last due to strategic macro games.
Our build orders crossed over and I allowed myself to get shaken up so I gave up three games. But thankfully, I was able to win the fourth game and rediscovered my momentum. After giving him three games in a row, I couldn't help but feel embarrassed. After being down 0-3, how did you pull off your mind control?
Last wasn't playing a standard macro game so I decided to just stay calm as best as I can and play my macro game. I'm not sure if Last got nervous or what but I saw him mess up his micro so I told myself that I had this. In the beginning of the fourth game, you suffered some harassment from reapers.
Honestly, I got hit pretty badly since I didn't see that reaper harass coming but after I blocked his attack well and retaliated successfully, I was able to pull off a comeback.
Your opponent is not known for using siege tanks, and yet he used them positively today.
I didn't practice a lot against siege tank scenarios. There is a strong timing attack that Terrans can do with their siege tanks but if you can force that timing to pass then the Protoss grabs the advantage. So I think the biggest reason why I was able to win was because I decided to stay calm as best as I could and just kept playing my macro game. You have OSL, GSL, and WCS back to back to back but so far you've been doing really great.
I told myself that I should try to grab a championship from at least one out of the three so I am happy that I was able to make it to the finals of the OSL like this. I'm going to prepare well for the my final remaining match so that I can grab a positive result. How confident are you for your upcoming match against Mvp in the Ro4 for GSL?
Mvp is someone who is great at controlling his mentality factors, a great macro player, and someone who has tons of experience so I see the match being incredibly difficult. I am really going to have to prepare extensively for him. Who do you want to face in the finals?
Since this is a finals where I want to be the best that I can be, I would like it if DRG could make it. Instead of a mirror match finals, a PvZ finals would be so much more invigorating. You used to watch your T1 teammates advance to the finals. But now that you yourself made it, how does it feel?
Going to the finals is a dream that is almost impossible to achieve but my teammate hyungs would often make it up there so I would always be so impressed. I saw that Fantasy hyung was having a hard time because he got second place for the previous OSL so I comforted him by telling him that he won second place in the midst of six billion people. I also will head to the finals with that kind of mind set. The players who shined for SC1 seem to be playing sluggishly for SC2 but you are stellar in both SC1 and SC2. What is your driving force?
I don't think I did that well for SC1 (laughs). I just think a lot about the game. When I first started SC2 I would keep thinking about what I should do even as I was trying to fall asleep. I didn't focus on anything else and just focused on the game as I consistently studied the VODs of really good players. Anything else you would like to say?
I want to thank my teammates for practicing with me, and since I was able to difficultly make it to the finals like this, I promise to show a great match and finish off well. I want to ask that people do a lot of cheering for tomorrow's GSL match, and state that I will show a great performance as Korea's representative for the WCS that will be held in China.

Thanks for the translation

"When I first started SC2 I would keep thinking about what I should do even as I was trying to fall asleep."
That's what seperates the uber gosus from everyone else, keep thinking of that one thing even when you're not doing it.

so fricking OP. Win WCS, GSL and OSL! Win it all!

is there a vod of this? down 0-3 and making a comeback, i must watch it.

no he will lose wcs in the first rounds, not even sure he can qualifier in asia (but he has a FUCKN easy group to semis and way to the worldchamps (no gsl guy in it) so i think he can
but then ... he is someone prepare alot over vods etc and on wcs finals where he have to play so much so close ... vs so strong opponents different from each other i cant see his style working ^^
but GOGOGO SUNNY RAIN !
|
Definitely one of the most impressive comebacks I've seen in SC2.
GL in the finals, would be sick if you could get a double!
|
Ahh, there is the interview. Thanks.
My biggest fear is that the OSL finals will have tons of empty seats, where is it going to be located at anyway? Besides, i definitely don't want a PvP. I like both MC and DRG but gooooo DRG!
|
Rain <3 When I checked the result and it was 3-0 I was almost certain you wouldn't make it through, happy! Now crush Mvp in the GSL!
|
lol MVP is gonna all in siege tank him and 2 rax

No offence, but that statement really sounds like something you pulled out of your ass... In some of Rains recent matches in WCS, GSL and OSL he has beaten players such as:
- Leenock (2-0) - Jaedong (2-0) - Curious (2-1) - Byun (2-0) - Happy (2-1) - Taeja (2-0) - Polt (2-1) - LiquidHerO (3-0) - MKP (1-0) - DRG (1-0) - Parting (3-1)
In other words he has been beating Code S level Koreans left and right for the last few weeks, and yet you doubt that he will make it against a bunch of no-name Chinese and Taiwanese players? There is no player in WCS Asia that Rain is not AT LEAST on par with!

I wonder where Rain got the 600,000 number from. Not sure if there were even that many BW players in the world at the time.

Wow he reversed an 0-3 into a 4-3. As much as I hate the annoying elephant talk and BW elitism, I'm starting to be very impressed by the KESPA players and how quickly they're improving. It must take a very strong will and good mindset to win from an 0-3, that's really impressive.
edit: Also thanks for all the hard work seeker.

about 60k players in korea/taiwan ladder currently http://sc2ranks.com/stats/league/fea/1/all http://www.gametrics.com/news/News02_View.aspx?seqid=8095 starcraft1 ( 스타크래프트) currently about 6x more popular in bc-bangs that makes 360k minus lot of the taiwan players but since sc1 has been on quite a large decline lately, i guess about year ago 600k would be pretty accurate number of SC1 players, probably some article stated that number and it catched on as your average starcraft 1 player amount in korea
edit: or he just meant out of 6 billion like stated above

So many opportunities thrown at him altogether all too sudden, hope he continues to believe in himself as he goes for the big titles.

I have a lot of respect for Rain! He is playing fantastic and even despite the disadvantages, he can turn it around so quickly! I am rooting for him to win GSL and the OSL! I hope he can take at least 1 of the 2! Good luck Rain!

With this, I am officially backing Rain in both OSL and GSL. Who I wanted to win GSL was entirely conditional on how well Rain did, and he's doing really, really well.

That's a pretty sick comeback being down 0-3. I imagine Rain is going to win at least either GSL or OSL I imagine.

by.Sun has the same mentality we saw in Stork when he was young and fresh to the BW scene. I think age plays a big factor here in his adapting to SC2. Along with his outstanding skill he really is quite amazing.
|
Sun will dominate sc2 pretty hard for some time.
|
I'm glad that last year around the start of the year (and even 2010) me and the other 20 or so users who understood how good KESPA players were when compared to the B teamers and... foreigners? said that KESPA players would start to dominate very quickly in SC2 because of how bad everyone really is happens to be happening. I'm glad foreigners are being phased out again, they don't spend nearly enough time playing.
The elephant has been real this whole time, and it was obvious to anyone who watched BW compared to SC2 players. Most foreigner SC2 players are simply garbage and the rest mediocre with the exception of Stephano and a few others.

I'm expecting Taeja to study up a bit on Rain, and have a little more preparation for the hardcore lategame Templar drop harass. He'll probably get more missile turrets and whatnot. Also since it is a best of 7 so I expect him to throw in some shinanigan's, which hopefully Rain will be better prepared for than in this series.
All in all though I HOPE, regardless, that it ends up being a totally awesome mind blowing series!! :D

Hmm true, even though he's really good, I got a feeling that MVP is going to crumble a little easier than Last did. He always manages to provide entertaining games though, and has pulled off upsets before, so it's anyone's game.

Normally he has such a big economy that he can afford to build extra production, so even if he loses a battle, he can come back. Due to drops he didn't, so every lost or traded battle was a smack in the face. But maybe i remembered it all wrong. Tends to happen sometimes.
But ontopic, this was of course a great turn of events. I came in during the 3-0 for last and was sure Last would win at least another game by some ridiculous cheese or something. But rain fought back really well. The last game Last was sweating a lot and i really felt the pressure on him. Great series!

Yes, the vast majority of games that rain won against very good terrans (last isn't one of them , he is gimmicky and has no clue how to play in the late game, vs protoss at least), he won because of drops, taeja lost because he fell apart to drops in multiple games, not necessarily because of lack of multitasking skills, but because it's really hard for terran to deal with any form of harass if proper defence isn't already in place, such as turrets and more importantly, a separate army, which creates a different problem altogether that I won't be discussing here.

I don't think "BW elitism" should apply here. afaik, rain didn't actually have any major accomplishments in BW, whereas players like Jaedong dropped to code B (flash is certainly doing well though). I think Rain would have excelled at SC2 no matter where he started. TLPD shows a pretty average record (literally - 50% across all matchups total)
Rain sounds much more like an "MVP" type of character - floating around the A team, with streaks at times (I think right?) but overall average, and being much more adapted to SC2.
Granted my facts could be wrong - please correct me if they are but I think I'm relatively accurate.
All that said, the kespa players are certainly doing well, but I don't think they're doing well enough to prove that hte whole elephant in the room thing was true. You might be able to argue "they haven't had enough time" but how much is enough? And its also, imo, easier to adapt to a metagame (kespa) than invent it. THAT said, what they've done is definitely a testament to their practice regime.

OSL, GSL, WCS, and this is his first 2 months in tournament play, amazing. I am so excited to see his future, and maybe he will go with a foreigners team eventually due to so much money being over seas.

Rain wasn't like MVP, 'floating around the A-team'. He was fresh off his rookie year as one of the best rookies in the game along with Soulkey, and became a mainstay in the SKT SPL lineup incredibly quickly. He lacks experience, but he was no doubt a rising star at the time of his switch.
Given one of his biggest weaknesses in BW was a lack of experience rather than a lack of drive/skill, I'm not surprised at all he's doing well - though I couldn't have expected such strong results.

He was a strong up and coming player. Won rookie of the year, and was on a 5 game winning streak to finish his Brood War career. He wasn't a Flash or anything, but given time, he would likely have developed into one of, if not the best protoss in the game. Iloveoov on Sun:
@eunsu111: There is rumor that (P)By.Sun is ranked number one in practice. Is this true?
A : By.Sun will grow into a force to be reckoned. He has a gift that leaves him no choice but to be good at this game. He can watch his teammates' games and copy their strategy and management on the fly. I'm not talking just the overall, I'm talking timings down to the second, building placements down to the very pixel, and harassment like you were watching a replay. He is an intricate copy machine. in bw the relevant period of 'strength is basically after flash wins his osl. the level of play has increased a lot and the "major accomplishments" of older players degrade very fast in present value.
having merely decent win rates in the current proleague format is already so much more of a skills accomplishment.

OSL WCG GSL champion at the same time. If Rain gets it all I think he might be the only person to achieve this in SC2 history!

On top of this he knows how to adapt and think outside the box, and win the game when he has the advantage. He thinks when he plays so he will grow into a great player. i consider oov to be the most important strategic genius in bw history so yea i'm a huge fanboy for anything oov says. so smart <3 only one who can compare is savior

Anything is possible though Why Taeja > Rain when Rain just crushed Taeja 2 weeks ago? I'm expecting Taeja to study up a bit on Rain, and have a little more preparation for the hardcore lategame Templar drop harass. He'll probably get more missile turrets and whatnot. Also since it is a best of 7 so I expect him to throw in some shinanigan's, which hopefully Rain will be better prepared for than in this series. All in all though I HOPE, regardless, that it ends up being a totally awesome mind blowing series!! :D The problem is it is really hard to prepare against Rain. Rain's strength is waiting to engage at the right moments. And drop harass is just a free advantage for him. He doesn't need drops to win. As long as he can move in position fine then he will win. And from the last matches it looked like he could force those against Taeja. Sun just has better map awareness.
Of course. Kespa player always had great map awareness.
Most likely due to great mini-map awareness that was much needed in BW.

map awareness and minimap awareness are two different things and both are still included in sc2...

edit: Also thanks for all the hard work seeker. I don't think "BW elitism" should apply here. afaik, rain didn't actually have any major accomplishments in BW, whereas players like Jaedong dropped to code B (flash is certainly doing well though). I think Rain would have excelled at SC2 no matter where he started. TLPD shows a pretty average record (literally - 50% across all matchups total) Rain sounds much more like an "MVP" type of character - floating around the A team, with streaks at times (I think right?) but overall average, and being much more adapted to SC2. THAT said, what they've done is definitely a testament to their practice regime.
you can't compare MVP with rain. rain was never floating around the A-team. the better comparison for MVP would be ssak.

Thanks for sharing, Seeker
Not a huge fan of Rain, but damn he's good. He is a true progamer and competitor.

He's so good he doesn't have to read opponents, he can control their minds.

I hope I don't get warned for this but, I bet you're Filipino (sinigang is what I had for lunch the other day here in the Philippines).
Anyway, elephant talk aside, I think the Kespa pros can catch up and surpass the ESF pros if they maintain their extremely strict training regimens. Still, in retrospect, I think it was a little unfair to discount the talents of the ESF pros.
From here on out, I don't think talent's an issue, it's what ESF and Kespa do to augment their players' natural talent.

That's right. Rain was a member of the A Team.

Hopefully I'm just being Romanian, but if not... you know that Boxer is the coach for Sun's team...?

Wow, I don't remember this interview... probably dismissed it at the time as "coach talking big about his player." Guess Oov was serious
Also, eh, Flash did do some major TvP innovation with his fast Armory builds, and he was one of the leaders in making Rax CC defensible vs P. But I agree that his best point wasn't his crazy strategy-defining builds, but his overall game sense, macro, and micro.

Who woulda thought Sun would come from BW semi-mediocrity to just.....monstrous SC2 player? Dang. I guess some people are just more attuned to certain games/ideas etc based on who they are as a person and their approach to things...

I wouldn't say he was semi-mediocre as he was a pretty solid A-teamer (who was still continuing to get better). He never showcased any results in the individual leagues in BW though so it is kinda surprising to see him at the top of the world right now.

So OSL Ro4 is Bo7 now? Also is it Bo7 for the finals too?

Not that surprising. Sun was a much better BW player than Zergbong and look how far he went.
