So of the $40,000 prize pool, MLG wants $14,400+ of it (192 x 75...for those who sign up early, lolz) to come from the players themselves?????

I don't understand the frustration, coming from Call of Duty 4 PC community, teams of 5 often paid 350 € entrance fees and 90% of tournaments were entry-fee-funded.

Well, nobody is forcing you to play. :/ Certainly not, but it sucks a lot for any pro player who flies out to Anaheim, loses, and watches Polt stand on the stage with a big check made out to him from their money. People wonder why SC2 is dying, well, a total lack of financial support for the people who ostensibly play it to pay rent and buy food and stuff might have something to do with it. Charging $75 to play in your tournament? Sheesh.

Gotta cover those operating cost. Also, Esports is one of the few competitive fields that doesn't charge an entry fee for most of their events. I don't know about many other sports, but when I rode Motocross it was ~$25 to ~$35 per class sign up, excluding camping and all that of course. I think it's totally logical to charge an entry fee to play in a large event.

yeah it's a lot of money, not everyone has that kind of money to spend on starcraft, but if you don't then why do you want to be at MLG anaheim? it's not like starcraft is a working class occupation, it's a choice to pursue gaming as a career and you should know it's not going to be stable
