No, it's not viable at all when it only lists that there is a lobby for x map, and you can't specify settings without titles. If I were for example want to practice XvX on Y league level, all I can do is make a melee lobby, and hope for a 1/100 chance that someone joins that meets those requirements. You can make the argument of being able to resort to 3rd party alternatives, like the practice partner thread here on TL, but the fact I have to resort to that because it would otherwise be near impossible is horrible, and you can't expect everyone to be aware of 3rd party alternatives. Other examples would be certain arcade maps with challenges, let's take blizzards left2die. If I want to do the X amount of nights on highest difficulty achievement, I'll have to make lobbies for days to find someone both capable and knows the strategies Now all that can be fixed by allowing users to set tittles for their game lobbys. If only there was a chat tab for the arcade in the bottom right hand side of the screen. Along with the dozen or so other big public chat screens you can access in the SC2 lobby. Oh right, there is. It never worked. Not sure why you need the sarcasm. His point is something a lot of other people, including myself, miss extremely about BW. It's probably my #1 disappointment with SC2. AOE II had awesome custom maps and functioned similarly as BW (the system was actually a bit better) All the things being requested are already available. The chatrooms, the open maps. The only thing disliked it not the content available but the feeling the content available gives. Nothing blizz will do will change your guy's minds.
No they aren't. You have an alternative, that while good in theory, never worked in practice. Not even remotely.

Hell, there are so many great games that rarely get full, because most people do not use the open games system. Ppl even leave a popular 4 player map. Just imagine the fun of a 8 player circle td getting full! of the 12 player peon wars map or simply the new awesome 4on4 Tessera map. Etc. Get back to a more conventional (better) open games list system, where you can still keep the rank system etc and put it into the list; but forcing everyone into the top 10 maps is so super wrong, anyone does see it but blizzard - DO YOU EVEN PLAY THE GAME, BLIZZARD?
ps: You should stop talking about the bad sites (refresh) of the old system.. it can easily be fixed and it's not the point of the thread, is it?
I do agree that not enough of the more niche games get played. And I do agree that the system needs to be improved. I just think that trying to backtrack to nostalgic systems is the wrong way to do it.

i agree; the current system of custom games is not really used much at all. i suppose that has something to do with how well the matchmaker works (nevermind that mmr is screwed atm).
not really sure if there's anything that can be done; there is already an "open" selection in the drop-down box. nobody plays custom games really. this battle.net has no soul...you don't get that community feeling you did back in broodwar. it's just you and some cold, calculating machine...

Actually i also think that the Chat was a huge plus, because socializing was the reason for many great years with BW. We had tons of clans and clan leagues and lots of UMS games with people you were able to meet on the chat rooms. Also lots of strategizing after games. There is hardly any clan scene and even less clan leagues going on in sc2. Sc2 has hardly any social aspect. Most people just ladder and ladder and ladder more.

Instead of writing up a decent OP about your issue, you take about 1 minute to write it and make no attempt to engage anyone who might not know what UMS maps are (I actually do, but found it more effective to begin my posting as I did) or to edit it into an easier to read format etc.
Instead of engaging with someone who potentially doesn't know what something is or responding positively to criticism, you state 'gtfo noob'. Great way to bring people into your discussion. This attitude will not help you, or this game, or any other game for that fact. I expected nothing more considering your poor OP though.

"Social mobile games" did not replace popular PC games with tons of user-made content like Minecraft and CounterStike Source, and there are many examples where modability and user-made content paved the way for new fully-fledged games.
I think Blizzard just really fucked up and missed an opportunity to make SC2 popular with casual gamers. Instead of pushing SC2 to be a competitive esports games, they should have taken the best parts of BW's and WC3's custom games system and refined it further. Probably the whole port forwarding was the biggest issue for the non-computer savvy users. Also, BW and WC3 becoming esports games was a total fluke. The whole MOBA genre (AoS, DotA, LoL, HotS) wouldn't exist if it weren't for UMS games. CounterStrike wouldn't exist if it weren't for Half-Life mods.
