The first proleague of LOTV is at dire straits before it has even started. Last October, Prime has been involved in match fixing, completely demolishing the entire team, and is now unable to take part in proleague.
Now, LOTV Proleague faces yet another obstacle. The expected 7 team league process is hampered by Sbenu's SC2 team. Opinions that Sbenu's poor financial state will affect the team as well are gaining more support as time goes on. Their logic is that a stable 6 team league will be better than another shaky 7 team league.
Trustworthy information says "The league information was supposed to be released on the morning of January 18th." the information also reports "The possibility of a 6 team Proleague is actually growing."
OSEN has looked into it, and interviews show that opinions are currently split. The players and coaching staff are siding with Coach Lee Seon Jong through social media. One said "Sbenu is going through hard times because of the sponsor, but it doesn't look good to reduce another team in an already small community where new players are hard to find. It's gonna be hard, but I wish we could stick together."
Another declared "Sbenu's league entry will show where exactly LOTV is currently at. It is a new league, and every team, every player is important.", showing his support for the 7 team format.
Some showed their doubts as well. Some management and staff say that the team will struggle monetarily with the lack of sponsor. "Unlike the LOL team, the SC2 team has received much less money this year than the last. The LOL team can also request support from Riot if worst comes to worst, but the SC2 team has to spend personal money. We can't help but think of the nightmare we had last year. It's going to be better to play safe with a 6 team format"
Another also voiced his concern. "Sbenu is going through tough times. That's going to impact the team's play. Prime's low scores came not only from matchfixing, but also because the players lost confidence. We must take some time to think rationally. Can they make it through this turmoil?"
KeSPA quotes "we're looking at various opinion to find an answer. We'll come through with a plan soon. If we get the team format, we'll announce the sponsor and other details."

I don't mind 6 teams so long as the SBENU players get a partnership with another team. Maybe MVP or something.

Half of this is due to Blizzard basically restricting the Korean scene in my opinion. Other half is of course, due to the scandals that Prime and SBENU/Startale face. The Korean scene is very top heavy. I mean just look at Prime last year. They were the laughing stock of Proleage like how Philadelphia is in the NBA right now.

startale noooo! you've made it this far, c'mon guys...

Rip 8th team. There wount be one.
If they let SBENU die to itself instead of support SBENU (maybe under new name and soon under new brand), 6 team ProLeague is doomed to stop existing in 1-2 years. 6 Team ProLeague will live the same life as 5 team GSTL

This is just sad news

That blows either way. No new Team 8 and possibly only 6 teams :s.
Not promising for Proleague and thus SC2 in Korea.

at this rate proleague and the korean scene will disappear completely by 2018

Would be nice to convince the military to sponsor a team. No one would expect them to win but it would give the few players that have a chance at a post military career a way to stay sharp if not competitive.

when will Freeces start adding players?

I'm sure the foreign scene and WCS will continue longer than KR, with the new system I think a long term shift is coming. The Korean scene is not getting any new players(DRGling the only exception) and teams are falling with no replacement. Every year we have less and less teams in Korea. We used to have 8 teams + eSF teams, now we have 0 ESF teams, no Axiom and 6 Kespa teams remaining.

I remember OGN's LoL league opening with the former KeSPA chairman and current IeSF chairman vaguely pledging support for teams in trouble, timed very closely after the SBENU incident got big in Korea. It would be unfortunate if that only applied to SBENU in LoL (formerly Prime) and not SBENU-SC2 (Startale).

I agree that foreign SC2 scene will live longer than Korean SC2 scene. That is why I am both happy and worried about WCS Circuit. Foreigners must be protected to keep the scene alive as much as possible, and Korean players will need a place to go to when Korea's SC2 scene gets fucked over again.

To be fair they did support IM and they're doing just fine, they just don't have a SC2 team anymore

If they go six teams, that means get ready for more retirements :/
