In Brood War the Ro16 players has been pretty much remained the same with about 1-2 lesser skilled players alternating in over the past 3 years. If we assume these are the best of the foreigners in SC2 then all you should be concerned about is cheering for good games. If new players are to join the bracket they will have to get better and qualify. And not having Koreans isn't a reason for the tournament to be stale either. I could watch Jaehoon play Larva 20 tournaments in a row. That will never get old for me because I simply love watching Brood War that damn much and I know these players practice hard and care enough that they will deliver their best. If it were foreign tournaments, I would say the same. I would love to watch eonZerg vs Julia ZvZ every tournament. That would just create a hilarious matchup where I'm sure Julia's comments would be gold. Having the same players consistently in these tournaments is great too because it creates story lines. If Nerchio and Neeb end up playing each other in the next 3 tournaments suddenly a rivalry is created and added excitement is there.

I will for sure cheer for Snute. He has been performing really well lately, especially in his games against ByuN. Losing two bo5's within 24 hours to a player outside the top 5 is not really something I would point as a fantastic performance.

As long as the games are good, I'm not quite sure why "new blood" needs to be introduced into the game. If new blood wants in tournaments, new blood needs to perform better. I want to see the TOP players, and right now it looks like these guys are it. So I will cheer them on and enjoy the tournament!

I'm beginning to enjoy the WCS Circuit more and more, since more storylines arise and we get too see who's the most consistent over time. And I think that's probably what is/will be a good draw to these sorts of tournaments. The exciting part is seeing different players being able to compete for the finals. Of course we have Showtime, Neeb, Snute, and Nerchio, (and Hydra and Polt who really have not been performing all that well) but we also have other players like Marinelord, Masa, Elazer, Harstem, Scarlett, and Mana (among others) who have demonstrated an ability to compete with the best foreigners. I don't mean to say that locking the Koreans out was the best idea or that I don't miss and prefer to see them play, but when an iem had half Koreans and half foreigners, it was pretty certain that the Koreans would kill and the foreigners lose (except for that one foreigner). But now, it's a lot less certain that a mid-high Korean will always beat the best foreigners.

No Koreans, no new blood... it really feels stale. :/ Banning Koreans from Shanghai... most desperate move ever. We all know how much better the koreans are, just let em play. Nobody cares if foreigner 1 beats foreigner 2 in the finals, its getting old pretty fast. I agree completely. I don't mind region locking Koreans out for WCS, but locking them out of weekend tournaments is just horrible... From what my friends in Korea have told me, many of the Korean players are losing their passion now and are playing other games in their free time. I'm really sad that this is the solution that Blizzard/SC2 fans have for bringing back SC2's popularity. Killing off the best players because some people can't empathize with them.

It was always the same players at the top and facing off against each other, but no one cared because it was Korea or something. Also, we have new blood playing better in Reynor and Rail in particular along with early bracket appearances for players like Lillikanin in most events.

Doesn't matter if Neeb or Nerchio is Top 3 in the world right now. They can wreck WCS noobs, but that doesn't make it a spectacle. Fact is, Korean leagues are more stacked with top players (as were the weekend tourneys pre-2016 and region lock) than WCS and IEMs now - hence why the quality is different, and yes, better. It's not about seeing the same or new faces. It's about having a tourney with a lot of top players fighting out, same or new, Korean or foreigner. Sorry to hijack the thread with a WCS region lock rant. I know some people enjoy watching WCS, as do people enjoy watching the Europa League, and I respect that. But let's not pretend that this IEM will be as stacked with top players and great games as Korean starleagues or previous IEMs.
