I've been here for a while but reading and watching streams only so this is my first post so again BIG HELLO to everyone.
I'm Sickstee - casual player from Poland, currently like high diamond level and I'm writing this to show you my little idea of how to harass while being a protoss player - we all know it's really hard to even think about it
When I tried to google it I didn't really found any new posts about this. I saw that few people had the same idea in the past, but noone really tried this ingame. I also wrote about this already few months ago on one polish forum, but I think I got too much excited about how awesome this idea is so everyting I got then was a big "LOL" from everyone. So after a while, when I figured out how and when to do things with this - ladies and gentleman let me introduce you to...
THE SENTRY DROP
I know this doesn't sound any dangerous, but before you judge - please watch this 5minute "trailer" I made:
Now if you watched I hope there is something in your head telling you not to laugh and that this may actually work, so let me write something more.
At first I was rushing to it without any general thoughts and only in PvP, cause I thought it would be a great way to harass other Protoss player in the early game, but I got rolfstomped too many times vs people who know how to punish 1gate robo opening [I tried this after 4gate shanegigans too but finally I started playing whole PvP differently so everything I write here is mostly based on PvT and especially - PvZ]. Then I tried this in other match ups and got to the point where I can tell you for sure - this is a nice and fun way to harass, but you CAN'T RUSH to do it.
What is most important - THIS IS NOT some super duper strategy with crazy build order that will win you every game when you do it. This is a way to harass as a Protoss player, and you can do it everytime you want during the game.
So the basic idea is to establish a safe situation, when you know you have a while to use you Robo for building a Warp Prism, and you can take away 4 sentry's from your defense [we all know how important it is to have them when there are MM or roach push coming to deny your first expo]. Then you fly to the opponents base, drop the sentrys behind the mineral line - put force fields all around the nexus/CC/hatch so nothing can get in or out and GO. If you execute this correctly and fast, there is a possibility to kill up to 16-18 workers per one drop!!! Most important thing [after not losing the warp prism to any static defense of course] is to start force fielding as soon as possible with your first sentry that got out from the WP. If you wait for all the sentrys to drop and then start force fielding it's too risky, cause opponent can run away with workers or get a bunch of zerglings or near standing stimmed marines etc right on top of your poor sentrys. You have to keep the sentrys as far away behind the force fields so they cannot be reached by opponents fire but can reach the workers. If this is vs zerg you can easly pick up some free queen there too if your opponent want do defend with queen - even if queen start attacking before sentrys get out - it won't make it to kill the warp prism or if opponent is focusing the sentrys - he will maybe kill one if you miss micro
As I said I don't have any special build order for that, cause it is a thing to use anytime but you have to adapt to what your opponent is doing. For example in PvZ I begin most of my games with gate assim cyber assim gate robo, after first zealot I bbuild 4 sentrys, then a warp prism from robo. When warp prism pops out warp gate tech should end, then I warp two more sentrys, expand and get an immortal for better defense. If there's no push coming I'm just taking 4 sentrys and go for a drop that's all. In PvT I just get an obs before warp prism to see if there's no banshees or other friggin terran push coming.
It works only on maps where there is not too much free space behind the mineral line. So trying this for example on Tal'Darim Altar is not the best idea...
If you want to watch a few replays and see how I was or am doing it and how I follow up - there they are:
http://www.mediafire.com/?5gv3zu0q3i4gpgt
But beware - there's a lot of lame actions in this replays too ;P Some of these games are from the ladder but some are custom, also with lower ranked players.
I'm not a top notch player and I don't even care about doing everything perfectly. Unfortunetely I don't have time to put myself 100% into training and playing this game seriously, but I have a lot of ideas like this one and I just try to have fun with them. I sometimes even get a lot of BM from my opponents cause they feel like being trolled by me because of my play style lol. Yea that's true - some people think that when they are top diamond/mid master they are so pro that I'm wasting their time and it is bad mannered when someone is having fun and does stupid things that don't make sense in their opinion ;P
I don't know if there's a level of play where this won't work at all, but if you like to have fun, harass while playing protoss, get an early advantage, or just piss off your opponent and make him whine about how much force field is imba - this is a trick for you
Let me know what you think about it!
GL, HF and see you on bnet!!!
