I think as this gets bigger and the rankings get stabilized, rank-named rooms (like NTBL-A, NTBL-B) are the best way to find even matches. Personally I think matchmaking is unnecessary, and if blizzard says it's against the ToS then there's absolutely no way they would ever let it happen, even with a clever workaround.

With no matchmaking people would be more inclined to pick the matchup we they are best at. For me it would be ZvT. No at first glance that would be kind of dumb. But if your opponnent is best at TvZ (to the point where thats all he wants to play) then he would likely have a god TvZ as well. So what I see this leading too would be better matches. Simply put, if you can choose your best matchup, assuming no cheese, then the will be good games. For example, ZvZ would only be chosen by two opponents who both like ZvZ alot. Meaning no "7 pool double spine for easy win herp derp" bullshit I think ultimately the goal of this is mostly to provide a practice ground that has a good map pool and more open skill metric than the blizzard ladder. Real competition happens in tournaments and I don't see that changing. If people avoid certain match-ups, they are only hurting themselves. Also, we do plan on adding match-up statistics in the future.

did you just find an opponent? how did you restrict people playing people their skill? like D's not going to play with A's how to restrict people from only playing 1 map? (e.gg an easy map for one race?) How did they restrict people from only playing 1 matchup? or keep on playing one person?

You joined the server (iCCup) and based on your rank you were moved to a channel. Ladder D (1-X) Ladder C (1-X) Ladder A-B (1-X) D was for D-/D/D+ C was for C-/C/C+ A-B was for B- until Olympic (the one above A+) You wrote in channel for example [B+] me Terran MOTW /msg this means you are B+ and you only want to play against B+, you're Terran and you want to play the map of the week (always 2 maps or a few more). After you got messaged you can host a game and play. If you play on MotW it was +130 points (vs equal rank), if you lose -X (depends on the rank, iirc -140 if you were A- and higher, -100 if B- until B+, -75 for C ranks and -50 for D-Ranks)
