But I think something is missing. HxH does not have the same depth as before a lot of things are rushed. + Show Spoiler +what happened to gon? To his old friend, Killuah etc, no big fights At the moment I am little disappointed but I hope it will get better.... Do you feel the same? I hope it was a legit bump. I'm quite happy. I don't mind the abrupt arc ending because to be honest I was beyond tired of it. It was not great. I think the author felt the same; he had some build up for big fights but he decided to drop them to end the arc I believe. I still watch the HxH Greed Islands OVAs pretty much every year. I've watched them like 10 times at least. That's what HxH is all about. Everything before this arc was great so I'm hoping he jumps into a new arc soon and that it becomes better. P.S Love how we see Gin in the last picture of the lastest chapter (315)... at least I'm pretty sure it's him. 100% agree. Loved greed island so much. I think its time I start that up again Don't think I agree with that; after all Gon technically already beat it . The main problem with this entire ant arc was that the author went through like three to four LONG breaks. It completely broke down the pacing of the story, and despite having some of the most heart wrenching fights in the series (e.g. Gon vs. Pitou in particular was just astonishing, both the fight itself and the prelude - chapter 304 for those who are interested) the lack of updates just completely obliterated any hope of it actually being a good arc and finishing off strong.
Yeah, to be honest I'm just really confused about what's happened to the main characters. I guess this arc is over now...

I wouldn't call the Chimera Ant arc bad at all; as a matter of fact I enjoyed the invasion of the hunters very much, but overall it was a huuuuge tangent that seemed to go nowhere, and this chapter abruptly brought things back on track imo.

Was not really a bad arc, but the massive amount of hiatus killed it.

Ant arch is worth reading. It's been a while though so the only bit about the ending I remember is that it just sort of happened.
But that means we can get back to the main story now.

Loved the anime of this series. Loved the first OVA. HATED the second two OVAs about that MMO Greed Island etc. Everything just got so exaggerated and everyones nen-power just got out of hand and the story sucked. I haven't read the manga but I would suspect that it continues like that for the rest of the manga and so probably for the rest of the anime if new episodes are coming? Or does the manga actually get good again and not turn into DBZ?

I felt that at the end of Greed Island, Gon and Killua were still weaker than the main bad guys they fought in the previous arc. If you think they should have comparable strength to Hisoka then I don't think things got too crazy yet. The thing I like about this series is how drastic a distinction there is in the tone of the story between each arc. I like how the author recognizes the potential of the world he's created to write very different stories, but it doesn't feel out of place that the same characters and rules apply to a different setting. But yeah, the powers do get bigger in the next arc.

I love this anime, characters are amazing <3

Haha this is funny. I always wanted to read Hunter x Hunter. But my mom forbid me when i was a kid cause the mangas are so damn expensive (like 5-6€). Now this thread reminds me of this.
Guess i will start with the anime first. Cause she was right. They are damn expensive. ^^

Anime was super awesome. One of the first animes I ever saw.
Regarding the Manga - those insane breaks mid arc really made me forget majority of the stuff relevant to the story. Which is kinda urging me to re-read the entire series from the start.

^that was the plan all along.
lol no jk but for reals it went on hiatus for so long i don't even remember what was going on.

Don't really get what's going on like 1/10th of the time in this ant arc; like at the ends of these chapters the narration goes to these people and stuff happening in the world and im not sure how it connects to gon (the main cast) and the ants.

Just dropping by to say that I loved this anime! Haven't read the manga, but might pick it up

I'm so lost with the manga since it started up again

We'll see if he can bring it up to par.....

Yeah me too. Even though I try I really can't get back into it anymore. Hiatus mid arc killed the manga for me ;/

Great news that the anime is starting up again. I tried to check out the manga (after the OVAs left off) but i didnt like it at all. Probably because of the reasons most people with an issue with. But i've been dying to see the anime again. I once made a promise to my self that if would ever get filthy rich i would commission a continuation of the anime. Guess i dont have to worry about money any more

Hunter X Hunter is still by far the best fighting anime out there.
Anything past the greed island arc though...that's absolute trash. The ant arc is just flat out terrible. It doesn't suprise me because that guy kept taking long as hell breaks.
And no it's not that he's unhealthy, it's not that he has personal problems, the guy is just plain lazy. He got in the big bucks with his yuyu and hunter so he didn't have to write when he got bored. And he got bored often.
The ant arc pretty much destroys the beauty of hunter X hunter. The main characters were weak, the world didn't revolve around them and even the strongest fighters in the world of HxH aren't monstrously strong.
Most fight shows like Naruto or Bleach or DBZ feel like they have to keep ramping up the size of the atacks to keep the sense of progression.
But less really is more at times. When freeza blows up an entire planet, do i really give a shit? Am i really sitting in awe? No i am not, it's too out of this world for me to relate too. It's fun, but it's not gripping stuff. Gon sacrifcing his own hand to pull of a cheap shot on a stronger opponent, that's a lot more intresting.
This ant arc just introduced characters that survive nukes like it's a joke. The series has taken a hard fall and the author is entirely to blame for that fall from grace. He should wrap it up and just resign because it's obvious he wants to.

Give the man some credit for keeping the manga going instead of just taking another break mid-arc.

Honestly, I don't know what's happening anymore.
