No it isn't. Unless some of the pros aren't pretty horrible to look at all is good. And none of the pros are ugly. You really don't need more.
awkward looking people does NOT help non-gamers views of the progaming scene. People have an idea of gamers, awkward, nerdy, geeky, socially inept, non-hygienic etc. Good looking pros that people can say "he's sexy" and such is GOOD, because people will watch because people are simply attractive. Look at any girl streamers view count, people will watch because she is a girl. Girls sometimes watch football because the men are muscular and such. Think about it, not EVERYONE that OBSERVES cares about skill.
the korean scene has plenty of odd lookers as well though... they only show the 'pretty' faces on magazines
poor flash...
although i feel that the western world hunk look is more like tanned, toned, tall hard bodies. in korea it's like a hunk is a weedy childlike frame with anime hair.

heh, reminds me of anypro
But, one must remember its a different culture, and he probably gets all the women he wants, so who am I to judge?
I wonder how much is correlated with their skill. I think Bomber is pretty good looking, for example, but he's also one of my favorite players. If he played like the average NA terran I probably wouldn't think so highly of his appearance even though he would still look exactly the same.
For another example, Sheth is generally described as being a "big teddy bear", while Total Biscuit, who is clearly smaller, is simply called fat. To be honest I don't agree with a lot of TB's decisions regarding how he carries himself, but there is clear bias from the community. If you show a picture of Day9 to someone who doesn't know him they'll probably think he's an average looking guy, possibly a little on the scruffy side. Many fans of his, though, think he's hotter than the sun.

I'm a little worried about the reasoning behind this. It's true that SC2 will not live or die based on the hotness of the players. But there's a definite vibe among a lot of the more nerdier fans that should be addressed. Working to make yourself look attractive isn't a "cool" or "manly" thing to do in the west, at least among nerds. Putting in effort into your appearance is seen as effeminate when it should really just be part of being a functional adult. Gamers give a pass on people who don't take showers, don't shave, don't use deodorant, and don't exercise.
Part of this is due to the male gamer wish fulfillment fantasy. The average SC2 player is probably a little overweight, and let's say, "not handsome by popular norms". Wouldn't it be great if you didn't need to put in any effort, didn't need to exercise, and could still get fame and fortune just by playing games all day? While it's certainly true that some people might be able to do this, the reality is that the vast majority of people need proper exercise, hygiene, and a little style to be appealing to anyone.
To be honest, I'm extremely pleased at how progressive SC2 is. Seeing crowds of people cheer on someone who isn't your stereotypical blue eyed white dude is beautiful. The amount of racism and bigotry and hate seems extraordinarily lower than most other crowds. Celebrating attractive progamers seems like another great way to erase hurtful stereotypes. There's no need to bash the "aesthetically challenged", but focusing on the better looking players some more would be great.
When OSL switch to SC2 I'll ditch GSL in a heartbeat. I just think their production value is a lot better when it comes to promoting players. GSL has resource for the production value but the execution is just inferior imo.

A guy can play great, win championships and everything else, but if when he shows his face on screen, if he hasn't been taking care of himself (I'm not talking about whether he's appealing or not, but his hygiene here) it's going to turn off people. Well, girls mainly. I can see how guys wouldn't really care. Anyone, appealing or not to begin with, that works out or takes care of themselves is going to be seen in a better light than someone who stays up 22hrs out of 24 and only showers once a week.
tldr; I agree with a better image for pro gamers, and I don't think white-ra looks funny ;o! But he has gotten a pot belly (._.) someone take that man to the gym! He could be so sexy <.< such a waste!
unattractive males that are unattractive due to their own choice, I.E. not taking care of their hygeine, hair, facial hair, or having absolutely no sense of style makes me NOT want to watch them, or root for them in tournaments regardless of playstyle or skill. I'm a straight male at that, so I could only imagine what a turn-off it would be for a straight girl or gay man to see a sloppy person in eSports, and formulate thier opinion of it as a whole off of them. A single negative image can outweigh multiple positive images.
It's unfortunate but it's true; appearance matters.
Being fat is not unnatural, there can certainly be advantages (physically) to it. Just because someone isn't overweight doesn't mean they aren't unhealthy as shit.
Also I don't get how someone would not root for a player based on their facial hair or "lack of style." If that is you proof that apparence matters, then we have different definitions of what "matters."
Then they aren't really "fat", they're just "big". Fat, in today's language, implies a degree of overweightness that is unhealthy and/or not attractive.
This, i wouldnt really consider Incontrol "fat" for example like aparantly a lot of trolls have, especially considering he can bench nearly 200kg.
There is a difference between bodybuilding and actually lifting weights for strengh which a lot of people dont see, bodybuilders usually just seek to make themselves "look good" and not actuly get the best lifts etc, which requires a lot more body mass.
That's only the case if you're in a heavy-weight class, where the you can wheigh whatever. Having more weight will give you better leverages and allow you to lift more but more muscle is better than leverage. So if you compete at 100kg, someone at 10% bf will lift more than someone at 20% bf, assuming equal strength training.
That is a complete lie. There is a reason why Bodybuilders cannot actually lift the same weight as power lifters, bodybuilding is very unhealthy for you. You are literally starving and dehydrating yourself on purpose to reach that body. Powerlifting requires a lot of core muscle, which is located at your belly button. That is why they seem to be fat.
The only reason bodybuilders(most) lift less than powerlifters is because they train differently, and I clearly stated same training in my post. And no matter how strong your core is it will never make you look fat, because abs and obliques are very small muscles. Big obliques will make you appear wider, but not fat. They look fat because they are fat. Nothing else.
Any bodybuilder who goes into a contest dehydrated is retarded since it's both dangerous, and because you WANT water to fill up your muscle cells, which makes them look bigger. By not drinking any water you will look flat and soft on stage. Also, Bodybuilding isn't even remotely unhealthy unless you pump your ass full off anabolic substances.
I believe this to be off-topic so I won't engage in further conversation about this.
I always find myself far more "cut" when im dehydrated.

Well if you work out / do amateur bodybuilding you never should be dehydrated .-.
Also it's true you should never look fat UNLESS you use steroids, in that case you can very well look fat even with a 5% body fat percentage, I'm not sure why but steroids are pretty fucked up.
Also yeah bodybuilders would never go to contests dehydrated because yeah that makes you look worse usually, and as a bodybuilder your fat % should be less than 10 anyway so there's no way you even need to be more "cut" for some reason
It's quite dishonest to call InControl "fat". His size is very much intentional. That said, his body type isn't similar at all to that of movie stars or signers that the public generally accepts to be hot. A hot bodybuilder type is actually kind of rare, maybe someone like Swarchenegger would classify but that type is definitely not a broad appeal type.

his size is very much intentional? are you joking?
the only part about his size that is intentional are his muscles.... if he's not careful he has a tendency to become fat, of course he currently is in fairly good shape and very strong but his body type is one that becomes fat very easily obviously
it's not like people like me or like TLO or w/e are intentionally skinny, we were just born that way

Um what? Taecyeon is 185cm (6'1"), which, considering the average height of a Korean male is 5'8", is quite tall. More than tall enough for me, and certainly tall enough for Korean girls. What about him is childlike or weedy?

w/e there are also some westerners that are small and childlike but on AVERAGE koreans tend to be much smaller
