Interview

Byun, as MVP of Team Prime
Q: How does it feel to help your team make a comeback and advance into the round of 4?
A: This is my first time appearing on GSTL after the transfer. I'm very happy to be able to get the 3 wins, and I am even happier to have helped my team advance to the round of 4. Previously, I used to have a very bad record in GSTL, but today's performance showed everyone my abilities.
Q: You were sent to play when you were 2:4 down. Was it very stressful?
A: Previously, when I played against Bomber in GSL round of 8, I also went down 0:2 first before coming back to win 3:2. I thought today's situation was pretty similar to that, and that I just have to get 3 wins.
Q: Ever since that scandal, it's been 173 days since you last played.
A: The incident happened after my first team transfer, and that made me really stressed. I was trembling when it came to the competition. I took a drink twice, and both times, some of it spilt out.
Q; How did it feel when your ban from competitions was lifted after you published your apology?
A: Even though the ban was lifted, I still wasn't able to play, so I kept reflecting on myself.
Q: How did you feel when you knew you were going to play today?
A: To be honest, I didn't want to play. I was afraid I would be scolded again like last time. If I had lost, people would have been saying nasty stuff to me. I was quite scared and worried.
Q: When you defeated Squirtle and the camera was on you, it looked like you were almost crying.
A: It was a similar situation to when I was eliminated from Code S. At that time, I lost under similar circumstances to this. When the situation occurred again today, I thought I was going to lose again.
But as the game went on, the game went in my favour. That made me really thrilled. After the games, I went behind the booth and cried for a little while.
Q: With these three wins today, I guess you have made an atonement to the team.
A: Nope, there's still some way to go for that. Even though I helped my team advance to the round of 4 today, it still doesn't make up for the mistake I made. Even if I helped my team win the entire tournament, it wouldn't be enough. I will continue to keep working hard.
Q: Say something to your fans.
A: I frequently search for my own name on Starcraft 2 related sites, but basically it's all just scolding me, and very few in support of me. I am very grateful to the small minority of fans out there who support me.
But no matter how many people want to scold me, because it's due to the mistake that I made, I can accept that.
Q: After this long period of rest, you seem to have matured a lot. How did you get past this period?
A: I basically just practised on battlenet, and then I realised that I took up the first to fifth place on battlenet. And then because of that, I got scolded again, so now I just stick to one ID, and use that ID to put myself firmly in first place.
Q: You still have to play in the GSL Code A Qualifiers tomorrow.
A: I think there's still some difficulty in qualifying for the actual tournament. I'm just too nervous now. The games today were won by the build orders. In the booth, the monitor and the surrounding conditions are very good for playing. But for the qualifiers, the monitor is different. I think the games will be very difficult. I'm very sensitive to the equipment and the surrounding conditions.
Q: What are your plans towards your games in the future to repay everyone?
A: What's most important now is for me to keep winning. In the future, I will not treat tournaments as if they were just games. Even in practice matches, I will play properly. In this long period of rest, I learnt what it means to really thirst for competition.
Q: Any last things to add?
A: First, I want to apologise to my coach. I will repay him with even more victories in the future. I also want to thank my team mates around me who trusted in me.
I also want to apologise to all the viewers, and I will never make such a disgraceful mistake again.
I was so nervous today that I woke up at 3am.
I made a resolution in the last GSL round of 8 when I was 0:2 down, that if I could make a comeback, I would go to church and pray, but I didn't do that then. In the booth today, I made the same resolution, that if I could take the 3 wins, I would go to church. In the future, I will go to church every week.
Finally, I want to apologise to Coca. We prepared for the Code A qualifiers together yesterday. Hope he'll be able to qualify for the actual tournament.
