New Gaming Laptop for March 2012 time period I am looking to buy a new gaming laptop, the main thing that I want the laptop to be able to accomplish is BF3 on ultra settings with no visible lag / low fps and if possible to shoot beyond that and get a laptop that will be able to handle newer games on ultra settings for a year or two. I know its a lot of power to ask from a laptop and i should probably just get a desktop but im sticking with a portable gaming rig.
The few computers I am looking at are:
The Malibal Nine X7200 with a Intel® Core™ i7-980, 12MB L3 Cache, 3.3-3.6GHz, 2x GTX 580 M's and 16 GB's of ram for $3400
The IBUYPOWER Batallion 101 P150hm with Intel® Core™ i7-2960XM Mobile Processor Extreme Edition (4x 2.70GHz/8MB L3 Cache) and a single AMD Radeon HD 6990M 2GB GDDR5 and 16 GB's of ram for $2600
The NP9270 / Clevo P270wm with a Intel® Core™ i7-3930K, 3.2-3.8GHz and 2 GTX 580M's and 16 GB of ram for $2899 (Is not "out" yet due to CPU being delayed by intel for a month)
The money isn't that big of a deal to me, but I'd much rather spend 2600 than 3400. I have a few questions though. Is it worth waiting a month to get the new intel cards, or is an extreme 4 core i7 like the 2960xm more than enough to handle any game i throw at it? Id really like to go with Radeon and get dual 6990's but i havent found many companies that will do it. Most companies go with dual gtx 580's or a single 6990. Is a single 6990 or gtx 580 going to kick BF3's ass, or is the mobile GPU barely going to get me the ultra settings I want? The IBUYPOWER laptop is a 15", while the other two are 17". I've never owned a smaller laptop than a 17" afaik so is down grading to a 15" going to disapoint me and waste all the power i put into the laptop on a small screen? Should I just wait a month until the new 6 core's are out and re-evaluate my entire line up? The only issue I have with this is that I just got back from a deployment and I really want to start gaming asap and im about to go on leave so i'd hope by the time I get back (late march mid april) that my laptop is in my hands, BF3 is installed, and im ready to go.
If you have any other suggestions or own any laptops that you play BF3 on and can recommend or review the parts in them to help me out please feel free! Thanks you TL! I miss you~

I would just wait until Ivy Bridge anyways. they are lower TPW so battery life is longer..
Also the when u plug an ivy bridge laptop into the wall it about doubles the cpu's TPW.. more power going into computer means more performance (to an extent).

All those laptops are better than my PC and I can play pretty much any game max settings with 60+fps. The best for your money is to wait for the newer tech imo.

Okay but what justifies waiting for a 6 core mobile CPU when I can get a 6 core desktop CPU crammed into my laptop now that will still be more powerful than any mobile CPU and probably less expensive?
Just to specify, the 6990 is a 6990M, not the ultra powerful dual GPU 6990 for desktops

dual 6990s is like quad 6870, Which means that you're battery Life would be stupidly low. Also no ONE crossfires 6990s. ONE 6990 is already a beast.
perhaps you could look at HD7970 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=7970&x=0&y=0
ONE could Always go with AMD, and save a whole lot of Money, and sacrifice a bit of performance
"is down grading to a 15" going to disapoint me and waste all the Power i put Into the laptop on a SMall screen?"
hell with all those specs you could probably run a 50" tv off of it, and it wouldn't lag. maybe a bit.

I wish I had such a huge budget for buying a computer...

Join the military, do a deployment (westpac) and get tax free, come home, buy rediculous laptop.

Haha my friend in the Air Force did that both of his deployments. After Qatar a Macbook Pro, after Afghanistan he got an ASUS G series laptop and seems to really like it. I'd say either check out the G series, or look at one of those boutiques where you can customize exactly what you want. Either way, I'd probably ask some of the Tech Support forum geniuses like Myrmidon and skyR.

just ignore your feelings and choose common sense. Make a great desktop for $600 and buy a relatively good laptop for $400.

I just bought a laptop from XoticPC.com for $1000 dollars and couldn't be happier. It tears SC2 apart.
*Edit: Also I would go with your last choice, the wait shouldn't be too bad. Definitely check out the prices for it on Xotic, I've never been happier with the service and speed of an online purchase.

why didn't you post this in tech support? those guys are pretty goodat this kinda stuff

MaV_gGSC - I didnt post in tech support because i dont like clogging tl.net with personal threads.
SKTerran.117 - Navy (Submarine)
Im almost 100% sold on this MALIBAL that ive been looking at for 3000, I cant build anything comparable to it without going over 4k. I just cant decide between crossfired 6970m's or sli'd 580m's. Its about an 800$ difference in the latter but i dont know how much the 6970's will hender the performance later on :/
Any adviceee?

OP I would wait for new tech, but I understand if you don't wqnt to. Don't downgrade to a 15'' you will regret it. Btw what branch are you in?
i built a good computer for 600 bucks that plays bf3 at ~40 fps on ultra. spending 3 grand on a "gaming" laptop is stupid and a waste of money. better to spend 500 on a laptop, and a grand on a desktop and have 1.5k left over.

I'd do that if money was a real blocker. But since money is no issue (or not a big issue) I would buy whatever fulfills my needs the most.
For me personaly a Laptop is much better then a desktop. I don't have space for a desktop/monitor anywhere and I spend just as much time at my sofa table watching movie/streams/whatever on my laptop as I sit at my desk. I like to be able to bring my pc with me when travelling without loosing my ability to play the games I like.
I don't know much about the specc's but about the screen. My previous laptop was a 17" and I found it to big to be really "mobile". It just took to much space when traveling. The one I have now is a 15,6" and I like it. It's big enough that the screen doesn't feel small and small enough to still feel mobile and easy to carry with me. But again buy what fulfills your needs. If you don't move around your laptop that much and want a big screen buy 17".

Did you ever consider the new Alienware revisions coming up? I.E. the M18x R2 and the M17x R4?

indeed. some people have have it like that. other people have it like that and choose to save their money for a rainy day. =]
