that's me, a kid who goes to my school heard about this on our CSL team's facebook page and decided to make a script to vote for me "as a prank". not the best prank and not the best decision but that's why I'm "beating" you... I think roughly 70-80 of my votes are fake.
edit: xeris/csl are aware of the situation, see his post a few pages ago

Got home from my classes here at 9:30 PM and it took me about 5 minutes to realize that I was on that list. Its been a long day haha. Voting for Yata (Sick protoss!), Qxc and ostijoy.

So why wasn't I included in the Terran group (not that I have any chance to make top 2 =P, much less high at all), when I'm ranked higher from last season (not all of those names were in GM), and have more wins and matches for CSL this season?
Also, HeavensLight FTW, where's his support? Same for BINSKIIIIIIOIIII
...and does even Spanishiwa ever play much anymore?
edit: Okaydokie, I get it now :<

Again - the list was an average of 4 different lists from admins.

Makes more sense logistically and at the same time give spots to schools who are well-deserving (obviously by making it to grand finals). Yeah that honestly seems like the best option. That way there is still the chance for an up-and-coming player who didn't make it on this list to still have a shot, and it doesn't require any additional work from CSL admins. And anyway, not all coordinators know all of the players well enough to make it any less of a popularity contest. Just let each finalist pick a player and it's good to go.
Yea that makes a fair bit of sense
As it is now,the final stage is quite literally a popularity contest. I dont see any other way to describe it. Seems like pulling out mvp performances to win CSL games or lans only gets people on a list that they cant possibly win because they lack TL presence. Up and comers have close to no chance, I think its better to leave them out rather than get their hopes up if a poll vote is the final criteria.

Why does the NBA All Star voting have more than Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul on it - no other guards have a chance at making it from the poll... that logic won't really take you anywhere. This poll has over 4,000 votes, that means a lot of the people who are on this poll that aren't "known" now have gotten a lot more exposure than they ever have. Everyone's gotta start somewhere, and this is as good a place as any.
Maybe they won't win the poll, but maybe it will be a staging point for them moving forward !

To be fair, AFAIK this is how most "all-star" events are done in big sporting leagues (except the NHL which has the most badass schoolyard system). Players are nominated internally and then voted on by the public.
Not saying the best players are going to go through, and an open qualification slot would have been nice. Maybe that is what the coordinator vote is for?

Yes but alot of the popularity some of those players garner is outside the framework of the CSL. Kobe isnt getting voted on the all star game because of what he does in other leagues. Its the same league and thats the only outlet for people to know him or anyone else (except college yeah but lets be real). I dont see how thats a viable comparison. I get your logic and its fine to some extent. But the comparison is poor, this isnt "[SC2 semi pros/pros of the] CSL All Stars" is it ?
And really all that aside. This isnt the NBA or any other big league, as much as we'd all like that to be the case. I hope you dont do something just by the rationale that all the other big leagues do it, thats just silly.
Just saying an open spot on pure CSL merit for best players on the winning team or finalists or whatever seems like a good idea. Even if we do take it as an apples to apples comparison with the big leagues, The bench spots on the all star game arent via fan ballot, so potentially deserving players who aren't popular do make it on "some" kind of merit, that isnt popularity. They dont get snubbed outright. Think of the last couple of spots as that.
Hell that open qualifier idea between the losers of the poll isnt a bad idea either. Thats fair to, atleast they have a chance.
Making it to a poll will be forgotten in a matter of days. No one who doesnt know these players will care unless they actually see them playing starcraft (and no, they wont go to their streams.)

UNCjer for protoss! real nice dude, helped me out with my pvp a little while ago. super solid player also

Sorry but why is spanishiwa even an option? He went 6-1. All-stars typically show up for at least half of their teams games.
I think this should have been done behind closed doors. Its taking what should be a reward for a great season and turning it into a social media and name-recognition contest. And it also includes a lot of people who don't know or give a darn about the csl.
|
I think they considered last season performance as well. For example, my performance this season has been absolutely terrible. 0-2 in 1v1, and 1-0 in 2v2.

None of which included my list, because I didn't make one! Redirect your pitchforks!

Ostojiy just went to reddit and made a post promising people a reward if they voted for him. How is this fair ? Also spanishiwa doesn't play anymore does he ?

They're gonna have to clarify how the "coordinator vote" will go down, but as it stands it feels like it's just going to be a smaller sample of what we already see in the main poll. So rather than just picking the next 2 most popular players, why not throw in a few of the CSL finalists just to see how they match up against the voted players. That would create a cool story line as well, since people will be interested to see if a couple of potential underdogs can hold their own against the most popular.
The addition of a couple qualified players might not be completely in line with what the admins intended, but I believe that it would add value to the tournament from both a spectator and player perspective. And the focus of the tournament is still very much an all-star match, since the community is voting for most of the players.

What's stopping anyone else from doing the same?
I like stalife's idea a lot, that'd be fair too. I've always preferred qualifiers to invitationals just because then you remove the popularity factor out of the occasion for the majority of players. Open qualifier for 6 players + 2 popularity contest winners > vice versa imo. Or even just having top 4/6 teams selecting players, etc, etc
