Tried some suggested builds in here but nothing really gave me the all around goodness of this one. You get amazing survivability and you have great aoe/single target dmg with good regen. The thing I learned in hell is that rare mobs are hard to snare, and if you are slowing them/ccing you're in a really vulnerable spot, so instead I took up mirror image which is AMAZING. It's 7 seconds of pure awesome distractions and they take up the same heatlh pool as you in total, that's over a diamond skin worth of damage, and against fast mobs that destroy ranged it's the best survivability you can get. Add that to diamond skin and you can have a permanent rotation on a lot of mobs, even rares. Arcane orb is op simply put. The only weakness of it is is that it's slow so fast ranged casters are gonna evade it easily, but other than that, the damage on it is the best per arcane cost and most general situations. The masteries you can mess with. I just have the lightning stun for versatility, but you can go with arcane regen or something else as well. All in all, great overall build for anything. Hmm, I'm trying it out now but it isn't working out all that well for me. Found a pack of fast bastards with the chain bonus, molten... knockback. Just overall a bitch pack. Problem is, they kill the illusions more or less instantly and eat through diamond armor in no-time and then you're completely screwed, you don't do even close to enough damage to finish it and the cooldowns are too long, you die before you can bring up another mirror image (and even if you do, the enemies still oneshot the illusions).

Am i the only one who think arcane torrent is one of the best spell for boss or rare mobs ? I tried all the other spell and dps wise it is really the best.
And I just hate arcane orb, even if it deals a ton, it's too damn slow, and boring to play with such spell. I very much prefer using meteor and kitting or blizzard + x even if it's harder.
|
I'm using, right now (level 32):
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#acXkSY!ZcW!ZaZaaZ
Features: 1. Magic Missile with Splitting + Prodigy for Arcane Power management. Just spam these when you're out of AP. 2. Frost Nova + Meteor for large packs. Freeze and AoE them down. At level 32 you can use Wave of Force with Forceful Wave rune to do the same initial damage of Meteor. 3. Arcane Orb for raw damage and extra AoE after Frost Nova. 4. Magic Weapon and Diamond Skin - Extra damage % and the best wizard spell. In early levels you want Familiar instead of Magic Weapon (12% vs 10%).
I've been liking this build a lot. Went through act 4 on normal with no sweat at all. VS Diablo I swapped Frozen Nova for Mirror Image for extra survivability.
|
If you're rocking your diamond skin (with decrease to arcane costs) and start channeling the shit out of arcane torrent (with the rune that weakens opponents for arcane magic) you can cause a lot of pain to bosses. While your diamond skin is recharging you can run around while spamming arcane hydra.
conclusion: not so good against mobs, asskicker against bosses imo.
what do you guys think of my melee wizard build: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#WSXdTg!aTc!YcaYZb

+1
i have set it as my main attack since it really just drains ur magic if u channel it hard. I love its versatility too, need aoe just channel it and move the mouse in the area u want to demolish, need to kill that boss just channel it on him. and its so nice for kiting aswell, since if u click an enemy instead of the ground it homes on him even if the animation shows the missiles wandering off.

Why would you use Magic Missile with splitting + Prodigy instead of, say, Electrocute with surge of power + Prodigy? Do the 3 magic missiles each proc prodigy where electrocute jumping still only procs once?

question about my wizard build. i am trying to do a cold damage wizard, but it doesnt feel that strong. its mostly an anti-boss/strong enemy rather than AOE. however, the blizzard does mop up. i am a level 38 wizard. any thoughts?
1. i use diamond skin. 2. i use two passives (magic weapon, sparkflint) 3. i use ray of frost as my main attack. 4. i use blizzard. 5. havent decided on last skill (i am using electrocute currently, but since arcane is so low on ray of frost, its unnecessary).
should probably add that the build is based on the passive cold blooded that increases cold damage 20%. i also use glass cannon and astral presence.

Maybe it's just me, but I really don't like ray of frost. With single target dps, standing still is how you die and having to channel your main single target nuke = bad.
I also only use diamond skin vs bosses so far. I'm about the same level as you. What's your damage? I just swapped in a 2h mace and my damage went from ~400 -> ~850 with familar up (no magic weapon though).
I use this setup mostly:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#aiYdRj!XaY!aZZaaa
Works pretty good for me. I can kite with magic missile while doing good dps (with hydra down also attacking with aoe) and I can do huge aoe damage with disintegrate. I like having wave of force & frost nova because I can keep people off me for long periods of time. Typically I can nova, force, then nova again.
I dunno too much about cold builds though
I hear Blizzard is pretty meh, how do you feel about it?
Edit: Just curious, but have you considered using Ice Armor with the passive chilling effect as your last skill? I imagine this would be helpful paired with cold blooded.

i am not liking this cold build. on paper it seems strong, but its kind of meh, and like you said, you have to stand still to channel. i do like blizzard though because it keeps the guys away from me. i have about 3k life, but low armor so i take a lot of damage (glass cannon), which makes diamond essential, lol.
edit: i am considering ice armor, but i never like to get hit so i think i will use teleport instead.

Lol yeah I had to give up ~860 hp when switching weapons, but gained double my previous damage. I have about 3200 HP so I guess I will be a glass cannon as well.
I might switch out frost nova with magic weapon, seems like it might be better overall.

Right now I'm using this as my build:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#acXQSj!Xba!aaaZZa
Magic missile + charged blast, Arcane Orb + Obliteration are my main nukes I spam. I'm lvl 37 right now, in the latter half of act 1 nightmare. Magic missiles do 400-600 dmg / normal hit, and my arcane orbs do 600-900dmg per normal hit. My normal dmg (shown in character screen) is ~440, but with magic weapon + familiar it rises up to ¨629 (!!!). That's almost 50% increase in damage, it's insane. As defensive spells I use Diamond Skin + Crystal Shell and Teleport with wormhole.
Teleport is for kiting mobs, I am not dead even if I run into a dead end. I can just spam teleport right past the mobs chasing me. Diamond skin.. well, it's obvious why I chose that. I like my build quite a bit.I guess it's better vs big hordes, but it's not BAD vs single targets, especially when you can just teleport away to recharge or heal yourself.
I used to have "glass cannon" as one of the perks but I had to give it up because of nasty nightmare elites that kept killing me.

Anyone else soloing, in act3 Hell? Act 1-2 hell were decent enough(albeit much slower than nightmare), but Act 3 is totally eating my cheerios. Would love to have input/discussion on builds/gear/etc.

I use this setup mostly: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#aiYdRj!XaY!aZZaaaWorks pretty good for me. I can kite with magic missile while doing good dps (with hydra down also attacking with aoe) and I can do huge aoe damage with disintegrate. I like having wave of force & frost nova because I can keep people off me for long periods of time. Typically I can nova, force, then nova again. I dunno too much about cold builds though I hear Blizzard is pretty meh, how do you feel about it? im at about 1200 damage with a wand that has rubies in it. i am a serious glass cannon. i only put on equipment that increases my dps--nothing else. i am not liking this cold build. on paper it seems strong, but its kind of meh, and like you said, you have to stand still to channel. i do like blizzard though because it keeps the guys away from me. i have about 3k life, but low armor so i take a lot of damage (glass cannon), which makes diamond essential, lol. edit: i am considering ice armor, but i never like to get hit so i think i will use teleport instead. Lol yeah I had to give up ~860 hp when switching weapons, but gained double my previous damage. I have about 3200 HP so I guess I will be a glass cannon as well. I might switch out frost nova with magic weapon, seems like it might be better overall. i give credit to kiante (one of the first posts) that made me decide to use magic (force) weapon + sparkflint. they add +25% and +12% damage respectively. glass cannon adds +15% and cold blooded adds +20% cold. party up with barbarian/monks and laugh while they get hit over and over again, and you dps the shit out of the enemy from a distance. <3 sorcerer. I will probably switch out frost nova with magic weapon (force) when I get home on Monday, but I think it's only +15% dmg (tooltip reads that it "increase the bonus damage of magic weapon to +15% damage"). Using both sparkflint and magic weapon leave you only 4 spell, with 1 or 2 defensiv the result is that the gameplay is quite limited imo.
Think is though I only use frost nova every now and again. I mostly just use disintegrate/magic missile/wave of force/hydra and repeat. For bosses I swap frost nova out with diamond skin anyway. I keep familiar up, but that's pretty obvious.
I dunno, I just don't think I utilize frost nova enough to have it worth taking up 1 of my slots.
