Unfortunately the devs haven't responded to my interview I submitted over a month ago so I kinda lost interest in the game for the time being. Is anyone still planning to play this at retail?

I think the major problem, however, with Salem and Haven is that there is extremely high turnover of members; People die all the time, and then they usually end up quitting the game. Obviously a village can be royally screwed with one hostile encounter where a couple villagers are lost, because replacing those villagers is extremely difficult, considering the limited pool of talent TL provides. Although I might start playing Salem again, I definitely feel that it is far too much of a timesink for anyone to be able to play it "casually". Also, the system of permadeath really doesn't fly well with most players (especially after they die, lol). The final problem is the lack of lategame in Salem. Last time I played, there was no quality system, so once you reach a certain point there was no reason to work for anything. What ended up happening was that people would not have anything to do, and thus would go running around amok on rampages pursuing the "lategame fun" of crushing newbies and dying, which once again causes them to quit the game. The lack of lategame and permadeath system cause extremely high turnover in village members, which leads to an extremely volatile village. There may be bad days where several villagers die, and I can be quite certain that, barring the hardcore, those villagers will not be returning. (This has been experienced by me personally in H&H) If anyone does decide to start playing Salem again, I would recommend extreme caution and vigilance, for losing villagers is one of the worst things that can happen. Get defenses up fast, and try not to lose anyone. Of course, the last time I played this game was a couple months ago, and there have been many patches released. Thus, take my comments with a grain of salt, for all these things could have been fixed already. EDIT: I accidentally a spelling.

Being an older guy, do any of you other 30+ know a nice village or maybe form one together? Got 2 family members going to play as well, same age group. We have a nice village with the 3 of us in H&H too but it's a bit boring with so few. Having played mmo's etc for years, we don't want the typical epeen adolescent guild anymore, that's all about stats progress and their own chars, where nobody says anything where you log on and say hi, but when you link loot you get 20 replies. Instead we're looking for a nice little community of friendly people. Not too aggressive but very capable of defending our property. Teamliquid village sounds good, but I fear it might be too large for our taste. Prefer villagers to all know eachother.

Newbies joining villages have no skills and usually don't know what they want to do or what needs done. Village vets tell them what the town is lacking, usually boring tasks that no one wants to do. Lots of newbies lose moral as they get stuck doing boring unskilled work while they skill up. Each person usually takes up 1 industry and it is up to them to keep it going. It requires a lot of self motivation to keep it up and active and when a town loses that person it really hurts the town because if just lost a whole industry. In our H&H village we had maybe 5 active people and then a bunch of people that cycled through which was hard to deal with. Don't get me started on thieves and spies, it just makes it that much more of a pain to get a village up and running smoothly. All this said however I wouldn't mind joining a village after the restart. It is fun but people need to know this game has more non game challenges then in game challenges.
