I see two problems: - 14 year olds who just dont know better and think its cool to BM and being annoying (trolls) - haters and unintelligent people who speaks to quickly all of the time (not really trolls)
I think the only way to change the trend is if mods are just super strict and time bans immediately, even if a few good one gets caught its still worth it. There are enough people anyway to keep the community alive. Banning people more frequently people will start to behave more. I do believe 90% of community members want to read awesome posts, not rude BM right and left.
Rude BM about awesome players ----> immediate ban
Edit: But of course this requires awesome mods, hope TL have enough of them.
How ironic that the very next post was this:
So incredibly happy Naniwa lost.
DRG or MC to take it all I hope.

Well done Naniwa! I was shattered today that I couldn't watch your games against DRG today, but from the results, you have clearly upped both your attitude and game play. Thrive on these results and push harder next season, we will be watching and we will be cheering for you!

LOL. Im getting more disgusted about people who are defending Naniwa as soon as he is mentioned on the forums
Why do you think almost every pro player comments negatively about what he has done in the past???
I recall Catz, everyone on team MVP, Idra, incontrol and many others who said naniwa is a very difficult person to
interact with. These people said this cuz theyre "just" jealous about his accompolishments??????? LOL
face it , he is a douchebag, but still a great starcraft player. I just dont know what to say when his mad fanboys
go "He can be a dick when he needs (LOL) to! dont bash him !! Enggggrish is not his first language, so people often
misinterrrrrrpret what he actually means!!"

There's a whole thread which discusses the matter here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=352339

And blind hatred for Naniwa as a personality isn't disgusting? Double standards say: "Hi"
Guess Naniwa really is a magnet for this stuff. He doesn't even need to cause controversy nowdays to get reactions =P

I was going to type out a long response but in the end I realized it wasn't worth it. The point of it was basically going to be that you shouldn't judge whether someone is a douchebag or not if you've never even interacted with that person in order for you to form your own opinion from personal experiences (or if that person's been a dick in public or something like that, but from what I can recall, naniwa hasn't really done that?). I'll agree that he comes off as someone's who's pretty socially awkward, but there really isn't anything wrong with that.
Saying someone is a douchebag when you don't even have any personal experiences to back that up, makes you an even bigger douchebag imo. I agree with you to some degree though, fanboys who just agree with/defend everything a player does/says beyond reason are also pretty dumb.

I was responding to someone who said "a lot of foreign SC pros are douchebags" and meant to put the word "douchebag" between 'successful' and 'foreign', but I missed it out -_- my bad The thing is that Naniwa isn't a douchbag. He's a passionate character with a bit of a troubled past and likes to speak his mind. I see so many people on these forums misrepresent Naniwa's personality as one with 'malicious' intent. I guess that's the cost of being different. Anyway, there will always be haters. All I know is that Naniwa proved a lot of people wrong tonight. No, Naniwa definitely goes beyond being passionate. Please don't think I'm just a random Naniwa hater, because it's not that. It's not a secret that I don't like him, but I'm not one of those people that doesn't like him just because he's popular or whatever. Like I said earlier in the thread in Providence I didn't know him, I didn't really think anything of him good or bad at the time. I barely knew who he was, I'd just heard his name once or twice before. I was getting autographs from pro players, and it was a great experience, the pro players tend to be a great group of people that laugh and joke and are generally friendly. Then there was Naniwa, who I didn't know, and I felt bad not asking for his autograph because I had gotten literally everyone else's in the room, so I thought I would ask him so he didn't feel left out and insulted. He asked me what if he didn't want to give his autograph, and I just smiled and shrugged because everyone else was good natured and the mood was pretty good and he just exploded. Other pro players and their people shuffled away, and then he stormed off after about 7 mouthfuls of abuse while I was trying to figure out what set him off and trying to calm him down. Other fans apologised to me for him. >.< So yeah, to me, I think he's a jerk. If he's changed since then well then good, but I've got no way of knowing that, but speaking as someone that met him not THAT long ago he definitely had a very angry streak. That experience totally messed up the rest of that MLG for me. All that said I'm glad that he performed better today than I expected him to because even if I don't necessarily like a person I do enjoy seeing people improve and play better games. Edit: And for people comparing him to IdrA ... IdrA is actually pretty laid back in person. Had a great experience with him talking about making the IdrA face. We were talking and laughing and I asked him if it's ever difficult for him to make the IdrA face. Mid-laugh he just stopped and put on the :-| face, and it was hilarious. Hahaha, that story is awesome. This story only makes me like Nani more. I really like it when people are not just big pussies all the time, and Naniwa can be a dick when he needs to be. I don't get why people expect pros to always walk around like big carebears. Naniwa isn't a cuddly toy there to please you dude, he is a SC2 beast who wants to rip out throats! Anyway, sounds like you deserved it. Walking up to Naniwa for a pitty autograph and then being suprised that the guy just does not roll over for you... Also, the results suck, Naniwa should have won. Let's not put our standards here like it is ok he lost to DRG, he should not lose. Next time, Naniwa GSL champion, nothing less! Giving fan an autograph instead of responding by randomly spewing insults and storming out = just being a big pussy OK. Dude..he was not a fan, he did not even know who he was! You only hear one side of the story here, and it sounds awfully fishy. hahaha, i read your first reply and it was exactly what i was thinking when i heard that story. and i agree that it's very convenient for this guy, and it's even better that everyone just takes it as gospel truth... the best part is when they start accusing people of having social disorders and being serial killers (LOL!) when someone calls the guy on it.
Learn some reading comprehension bud. It's evident the guy has a social disorder because he's saying Naniwa acting in that way is acceptable and "badass" and that the guy asking for an autograph had been a "crying nerd" that didn't accept Naniwa is just there to "crush SC2 nerds" or whatever. He wasn't calling the guy out on his story, he was stating that it was a good thing for Naniwa for "not letting himself get walked over"...because he exploded in rage over someone asking for an autograph. Even if this isn't what happened, that guy was saying that Naniwa's behavior in this situation was a good thing..which obviously shows he has some kind of social disorder because he's looking at the situation as "Naniwa sticking up for himself"...
Sorry bro, if you think it shows you're a badass who doesn't take shit when you rage at a fan over literally nothing, you probably have some problems of your own when it comes with interacting with people. Kind of obvious no well-adjusted member of society would find that desirable "role model" behavior.

Thank you for typing this, because that gives me a chance to respond to some points specifically. Mainly this:
I recall Catz, everyone on team MVP, Idra, incontrol
I don't know about Catz, but Naniwa has said that he has a hard time following korean culture, it is just a big culture clash, and I can imagine him not being very compatible with their culture, but I think the koreans have shown some incredible hypocritical and demeaning behavior towards foreign players at times, so yeah, nobody is perfect.
As for Idra and InControl. I am just not sure what has happened there, but they have taken every opportunity for the last months to bash on Naniwa. Naniwa must have made some death threats towards Hobbes or something . I like Idra and InControl, but let's be honest here, like Naniwa they can also act like misguided dicks. It is ok though, but that does not mean that I take everything (or anything) serious that comes from them in particular.
Also, there are also people who are positive about Naniwa, but they are maybe less vocal. I don't need to mention Sase, but also Destiny was quite positive about Naniwa in a recent interview at HSC. Anyway, sure, he is not the most loved person in the pro scene, or has the most friends, but he does have fans and friends who don't enjoy people taking every chance to shit on him, just because their favorite player does not like him (I am looking at team EG in particular here).

Not yet. Naniwa has only been in code S for 2 seasons. Jinro was in code S for 3 (4 if you include GSL open season 3). Huk was in code S for 5 seasons.

All I can say is watching Nestea fumble around in every game like that was like finding out your parents were lying about Santa Clause. A part of me died and won't be coming back.
As for Naniwa, he looks good, but still a bit too tunnel-visioned. His unpredictable 1 gate expo looked quite predictable by the series' end. And who cares if he has a temper? Maybe you have a mean temper, but no one knows about that because no one cares. Some people have tempers. Maybe Naniwa has an alter-ego where he dons a cape and fights crime at night. Maybe his temper stems from a long-life of charity and goodness scorned by a cruel world, making him justifiably bitter? Could be. Could be.
Naniwa is surely not the only pro to lose him temper or his patience, although keeping it from effecting your gameplay is surely a "useful skill toi have".

Sure...I have a social disorder...now stop teasing me with it, I am a bit shy about it...Not that it is important, but for clarity sake. I did not say crush SC2 nerds..I meant Naniwa is there to play games, and crush other pros in matches. He is not there for fan service....there are more players like this (Tyler comes to mind). It is good for a "fan" to at least know if your favorite player appreciates being disturbed between matches. And he did not even know Naniwa! With Naniwa he would have known there is a sign there that says "Don't feed the bears". Second, I know he keeps posting that story, that is why I made a harsh post, because after a while I get tired of someone who keeps repeating the same shit about someone, without accepting or giving Naniwa a chance to apologize.
Anyway, I guess I have said enough on the subject already. I should get to my therapy, get that social disorder in check .

I can agree with statements like this, your wording before was very poor. The way you wrote, it sounded like you were mocking the guy who posted and assuming he did something wrong. Just came across as strange that you seemed to be agreeing with Naniwa's actions in the story regardless of whether or not it happened. Maybe Naniwa just lost a very important match or something that would excuse his behavior, but if you look at the OP's story that is not an acceptable way for a person to act---if there were other pros around signing autographs, and the OP knew Naniwa was a pro, I don't see it as being "disturbed" unless Naniwa was doing something like eating food by himself.
Regardless of whether or not the original poster was a fan, either Naniwa was not aware in which case it doesn't matter, or Naniwa was doing himself no favors in attempting to gain new fans. There's not a ton to discuss there though because at least in the past Naniwa was known for his anti-social/BM behavior, it'd be beating a dead horse. From what I recall Naniwa has said he doesn't really care about his fans and just wants to win but I may be incorrect---along with his history it's understandable to see how he may have alienated people in the past. I'm not Naniwa's mom to chastise him for his behavior, but if someone dislikes him for that reason it seems like a justified dislike to me.
I feel somewhat bad for mocking a social disorder but still, it just seems a very strange thing to say in Naniwa's defense.

he may have an easier time with swedish fans because according to him they interact with him in a "normal" way (to what he's used to growing up in sweden) as opposed to mainly some (a few?) american fans who apparently are way too loud and noisy (not his words exactly). I think he does care for all of his fans and has said so himself here on tl. People take everything a person say way too seriously here, if Naniwa once said "I only care about winning" then it remains true for all eternity in some peoples minds. Which is pretty ridiculous as it most likely wasn't even true when he said it...
I am not what people call a "fan" btw. I can actually like a person as a player and still believe they can have flaws, even deep ones. It's called being human

Byunjwa for GSL Code S 2012 Season 3 champion! Too bad Naniwa couldn't make it through to ro4 as well, but he put up a good fight.
|
naniwa should be a long time code s player if he continue to practise hard and perform. that first set vs drg like wow, using a well thought out plan to defeat a overall better player is the way to go. kinda like what byun did to nestea, but nestea really fucked up those blocks and died twice to bunker rush...

(why was game 1 so recommended though lol, it wasn't thaat great... people just like seeing foreigners win? xD)
dammit naniwa so close I learned not to trust recommended games always whenever there's a foreigner involved. Game one was a cool build by Naniwa, but it could have been a lot closer had DRG played much more intelligently. He sacced 2 queens, lost his hatch, and also lost a lot of Zerglings/wasted larva early on. Oh yeah, I guess you're right. Unusual builds (especially when they win) are appealing :D
Nothing unusual happen actually. I got no idea why Artosis act as though it is a new build. Just 1 gate expand into heavy 4 gate pressure to force units and possibly kill the third and then transition into another all-in(mass blink stalker with+2 or mass stalker/sentries/etc).
DRG probably never practiced against it and got caught off-guarded.He adapted well throughout the series and won.

right now he's at the same point as idra/jinro who were in code S for 2 seasons. (Idra was in all open GSL's though). I think huk has been code S longer then naniwa as I feel like I remember huk being in code S for like 5-6 or so but I could be wrong.
