I'm having quite a bit of lag in Global Offensive on my mac... I have everything on low settings, and I have at least the minimum, but 75% better than the ones that Valve said worked for the game. I keep trying to play, but am getting flamed because of performance issues, but it's very unbelievable if I were to blame it on lag, and I get kicked or disconnect anyways because of it. Maybe are there any ways to make the graphics even lower, maybe some variables.txt in GO that I have never seen before, or some software that can make it so that GO is more playable?
And please don't say stupid things like get a pc, I already know and I'm going to get one but I want to use this mac the best that I can before I actually get a pc.

I thought west coast had some pretty sick players during the 1.6 era. Method was pretty amazing for a while imo, along with a handful of others.

I have a late '08 unibody macbook pro 15" and the game plays fine (50-60 fps) in bootcamp/win xp. Source engine games have a pretty big performance hit in osx. Are you able to set up a bootcamp partition?

spec? Anyway you should run your game under Win7 using bootcamp. MacOS is shit when it comes to gaming. Once in Win7, dl the latest drivers, put everything low (cut the anti-aliasing & co off), dl game boost and also upgrade your ram maybe to 8g if you have a mid-2K10 MBP. It won't give you 100FPS but it will be playable. I type max fps 50 instead of 300 because I don't want to have any fps drop in my game and I play with the lowest resolution possible because I'm used too (and also because I only have a Mac at work :/)
hope it helps.
PS: Another thing annoying under Mac is when your MBP gets too hot, your performance somewhat decreases for I don't get the reason.

i was so baffled that EG became this american dream team a few years ago. when i was growing up and gaming EG was Canada's team and they made an amazing run one year!
here is an even earlier video of EG Canada I found on my old HDD.. I think I was 12 when I first seen this. Oh man..
No. vest+helmet > vest Some guns will 1 shot you in the face without a helmet and won't with a helmet. Tagging is drastically reduced as well (e.g. glock)

This is universal behaviour for modern processors regardless of operating system. It's common for laptops to overheat because they have narrow-finned heatsinks that get blocked with dust very quickly, and MBPs have less cooling margin than many laptops.
I don't know if these laptops have accessible heatsinks. Otherwise you can clear the heatsinks somewhat by blowing hard into the exhaust vents.

Is CS: go better than the original CS and source?
tofucake is right when he says it's a different game. I know you're probably looking for something a little more solid, but really, the game is a hybrid between 1.6 and Source (or tries to be). The one thing I can say about the game though is that it is 100% worth 15 dollars. I mean, in this day and age...that's cheap as fuck. I got my 15 dollars worth during the first day as I was trying to get my fingers to move correctly for an FPS (DAMN YOU MOBAS/SC2!!!!). Also, it's still a very new game and I think most of us are expecting some good changes in the near future. 1.6 didn't start as 1.6 =D
EDIT: This game certainly has a much better starting foundation than source did though, imo. (I played different mods than CS back in the day, so I can't say for certain what the early days of cs were like foundation wise).
On September 20 2012 01:05 Maedi wrote: Having played this game extensively, I can tell you the little things that irk you when you first play for the first few weeks will go away. Especially from a 1.6 background, everything is almost offensive.
You'll get used to the maps, maps are bad right now anyway, the game just came out. (Official developer maps always suck, sup steppes of war.)
Models seem bloated and not simple, you get used to it.
Recoil seems bad, spraying doesn't work; You get used to it, the bursting is pretty keen, the spraying is generally detrimental unless you're a good scenario for it. Even so, the spraying patterns are so extreme that if you have any background in Counter-Strike, your muscle memory will give you a one night stand and leave you crying.
M4 Isn't necessarily "weaker", it's just not as a strong because you can't spray people down as easy/no silencer. The AK is still and always has been good at bursting people down though. I think the issue moreso lies in the shitty netcode or whatever's wrong with spraying,
I do encourage people, however, to please give this game a legitimate shot. No, it's no 1.6, no it's not Source. It's something in between. Do we deserve better? Probably. But in this day and age of what is considered "popular FPS", aside from washed up people like myself playing 1.6... it's a pretty damn good compromise. It can only get better from here with patches, community support and feedback and ideally it will thrive into a competitive title we can all enjoy.
It's interesting comparing the release of SC2 compared to Global Offensive. Even though it's not a "direct sequel", it will hopefully be the successor to Counter-Strike. Almost the same things are currently "wrong" with GO that was "wrong" with SC2. Maps were bad, mechanics were dumbed down, game seemed too fast, glaring imbalances, etc. The communities for Counter-Strike are so divided and so conflicted. Makes me sad.
Farking this....HOLY COW the recoil feels so different from Source. Not saying it's bad, just that my muscle memory from mid Cal/CEVO-M level Source has been raped with a rusty pitchfork and thrown out back to rot. It's burst or nothing for me right now. I dislike what they did with the AWP, but I was definitely an AWP whore back in the day, so I know I'm biased. I can still rape with it now, it's just impossible to be as fast as you were in Source, which I will miss, although I will agree that at all but the highest levels of play, it makes good AWP play almost untouchable by anything but a better AWP.
Deagle still = sex though, feels exactly the same.....as random and amazing as ever.
Oh, and can we please, please for the love of Gaben, can we please have mill and ruska soon?
Hey guys I'm currently making a video series on CS:GO for FPS and/or CS beginners. These videos cover the absolute basics. The first video is already up and it covers the foundations of CS, aiming and what to think as a beginner.
The second video which covers movement tricks and weapons is currently being uploaded, and will be available in a couple of hours.
If you're looking at getting your friends into CS:GO but don't have the time to teach them or can't be bothered, let my videos do it for you! Also there's a guy on YouTube called HattonGames who does very detailed sessions on weapons amongst other things, so you guys should check him out.
Thought I'd leave a heads-up here about the Dreamhack Valencia CS:GO tournament which is starting today (first match in 3 hours): http://www.hltv.org/?pageid=82&eventid=973
Only 8 teams, but it will be interesting to see what VeryGames will be able to bring (they were one of the best CSS teams as I understand?). Hopefully they will be able to give NiP a run for the money.
