Love him or hate him, our good friend Dayvie has posted a few thoughts on the direction Terran is headed right now in HotS.
On general mech:
Our latest thinking on HotS mech:
1. All mech revolving around Siege Tanks makes Terran want to sit back and defend for a very long time. We're not sure what the correct ratio of this sort of play would be against how Terran players play now.
2. Mech revolving around a more all round/slightly mobile didn't work out with the Warhound.
3. Widow Mine being a more useful option is looking to be a really fun add to mech. We really want to focus on making this unit awesome for now and see where it goes.
4. Battle mode Hellions being built as a separate unit feels good for now due to how different this unit is from the hellion. We've been playing around with Battle Hellions that have Biological flag (can be healed my Medivacs), and are seeing more bio + mech cominations.
So overall, we think it'll be good if players in the beta really focus on the Widow Mines and Battle Hellions in the next couple weeks to really figure out their potential.
On the idea that "To play Mech" doesn't mean only make units from the Factory:
We're starting to go this direction too. Putting so much focus on mech units only hasn't really worked out well, and we think it's better to think of the race as a whole. On Widow Mines:
Widow mine is a 160 damage unit that instantly 2-4 shots the strongest, latest tier units in the game. Not to mention you can build them two at a time with a 20 sec build time on each. We don't think it'll be a good idea to have these guys be 1 pop especially for the 200/200 supply cases.
We do agree that the Widow Mine is not at an amazing place right now, but we think fixing the unit itself to be good is a priority than just simply lowering the supply cost to 1.
We have more changes for the Widow Mine this week as well so please check them out, and please note one of our top priorities in the up coming weeks is to have the Widow Mine be a really solid unit. This guy is so out of fucking touch with the desire of terran players to have a pure mech composition that's viable.

I think he's trying to make bio-mech more viable so that Immortals are better dealt with.

This isn't true for TvZ. Terrans would be better served trying to delay Protoss Robo/Templar tech as long as possible and would probably do so using bio drops or hellion play.
It's also ironic that the other races are predicated on sitting in their base waiting for their later tech and Kim and co seem to be fine with that.

Added source links for you guys.

Except it's not at all, because the two units have entirely different roles. If anything, this is concerning to me because MMMH might become a viable playstyle. We can only hope that Immortals and the production cost of Marauders versus Reactor Marines would invalidate this.

Get helion to bio, make it stand up, rename to firebat = profit.

Yeah, I know, just kidding. But I think a nice idea Battle Helions as full Bio/Mech Hybrid, much like Viking is a Mech/Sky Hybrid.

Its a good thing there looking toward terran as a whole instead of mech only should be interesting. Its getting exciting theese widow mine changes.

That Battle Hellion is sounding absolutely terrifying if it gets double the heals from SCVs and Medivacs, I mean it's better than a Firebat already ...

Fucking David Kim... This is so sad.... Mech IS the Tank. The Tank IS Mech. Why don't they see this????
Mech=slow, unstoppable force, made of mechanized units.

Well, I'm oficially put off by the fact they want to make everything bio mech and not just mech.
Mech is the style I love and enjoy. mech is slow pushes, immobile and a strong force. Why force me to play with bio units I don't enjoy using?

Where did they say that they want everything to be bio mech? I took it to mean that you're gonna have to deal with making factories + Starports, which you basically have to do anyway.

Sorry I must have read it wrong, I kind of posted it quickly inbetween watching Morrow play and he got in an engagement. :p
My apologies, I generally don't try and post like that, I was kind of confused by his first point. I'm really excited about dropping becoming better with mech as right now medivacs are dead supply to mech (I mech in WoL), so I'm happy with that change! <3

There are answers to players sitting back and defending.
Sure it is potent, but that's a good thing. As a Protoss player, we are getting buffs/additions to our stargate units and the answer to someone who defends is always to take an economic lead. For zerg, the viper also neatly helps out with this problem, allowing zerg to swoop in and pluck tanks from the high ground or wherever, or blinding cloud clumps of poorly positioned tanks.
edit: If maps need to be adjusted, the community will sort it out.
Let the players figure out the "correct ratio" of this sort of play. That's what the community is for. Very sad to see Kim and Blizzard stumbling around so ignorantly.
