So protoss themed Geysers. I like that. Now we have some for terran(Industrial) some for protoss themed maps and natural occuring ones for the rest, which also suits Zerg themed maps.
Not that we see alot of Zerg themed maps.

What would be a Zerg themed map? Just lava with some Zerg doodats right?
Honestly, I'm going to make an infested space platform map soon enough I guess, you're right, not enough Zerg themed maps.

Alot of it comes down to the fact that the Zerg brings its theme with it through creep. And that is naturally not something that can be used as terrain.
Still i feel Blizzard themself nailed it down pretty well with the 2 campaign ones. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Campaign/Gates_of_Hell http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Campaign/All-In
In those missions even when you wasn't on creep you definitely got the feeling that you were not on homeground and you were not welcome.
I think mapmakers might have avoided it due to alot of the risks involved. The terrain doesn't contrast alot with creep. Lava and fire can be tanky for the hardware if you aren't careful.
But hey leading an invasion against the Swarm on their homeground just once would be nice rather than always defending our own cities. Or facing them in a jungle, or on a glacier or under the water or another Jungle or another area of highly questionable military importance.
Good luck with the work.

I realize it's a sort of sidetrack, but it's not exactly a new map.
As for a Zerg theme, there's gonna be some really strong stuff coming in HotS(obviously), but way back when, I managed to pull off a pretty good approximation of the new char tileset, though the real thing is obviously going to be better. New doodads, cooler textures, whatnot...

If I were to try it again, the execution would also be better, but I had it lying around, and it was a good idea, so might as well show it off.

Looks good, I concur, we need more Zerg maps. You can also use creep for balancing reasons. Like put creep into chokes or something. You can probably use models of Z buildings in doodads with the data editor to get something cool.

This looks like a glorified version of star station. I like it, i hate star station, its too simple and waaaay too open.

I like the third options especially with those rocks. To me this is mirror symmetry done right!
And those new vespene geysers look cool!
|
I’m not a fan of 4 player maps but I like this one. Although I’d definitely fix the choke at the third so that you can’t land on it; or swap it for some good looking destructible wall (I prefer them over fixed chokes because space plays such a huge role in race balance).
