Not to mention the included hardcore difficulty, CDR going back to old roots of gaming.

It was both a combination of tactical positioning and some twitch-style movements, all great imo. Not to mention the included hardcore difficulty, CDR going back to old roots of gaming. Maybe great for consoles but this is not typical of PC RPG games. And I am an old school PC RPG gamer and I don't like twitch gameplay in my RPGs.

Maybe I am just paranoid because of the experience with Gothic 3 where the transition to a really big open world game failed miserably. Additionally I like RPGs more with more concentrated worlds like The Witcher 1 and 2. Most of the time they are just a little bit more atmospheric.

Also, to all people complaining on difficulty, balance and shortness of the 3rd act. It was vastly improved in patches and enchanced edition which was MOTHERFUCKING FREE.

Only thing that needs to stay is the awesome voice and his model. If I remember correctly they wanted to change one of those for Witcher 2 and there was a big community upheaval. @Archangel, as for combat I believe strictly RPGs should focus on the story first which Witcher does wonderfully, combat is great and all but that's hardly a good hallmark of a great RPG(see PS:T). Combat wasn't really dumb-downed, it was still quite tactical(maybe slightly less to witcher 1) but it's to be understood. Witcher 1 used aurora engine which in its basic form is based on rounds which naturally leads to more tactical play. I don't know in other difficulties, but in dark mode you couldn't just bash spam attack and kill everything.

Higher difficulty only needs you to spam keys more. Games like NWN and even W1 had tactics. W2 has very little to none. One character + no pause means little to no tactics. Control scheme that is more similar to FPS then to click and move equals to little to no tactics. And then W2 had this awful tendency to do these whole animations that lock you out from control as well as move you to places where you didn't want to move. It was a bit better later with patches but not much. I only played W2 to half way and because of the whole combat system I could not force myself to finish the game.

Spamming keys doesn't work in high difficulties throughout the game. It's a good way to get one-shotted by bosses, though! Anyways, I'm excited for Witcher 3: Live Neutral and Plough Hard, which as far as I'm concerned is the working title for any and all Witcher games.
