Back to the present. How are the old ninja so damn strong? You'd think that with each new generation, they'd be getting stronger (developing/improving techniques). I thought the Raikage (probably prime of his life) was strong, but the kage before him in addition to all the hokage seem to overshadow him. For comparison's sake: Sasuke faced the Raikage head on, almost killed him (maybe, damn you Gaara). Sasuke has a heart attack the instant The Second getting pissed off. I don't think Sasuke (or anyone else) is needed to stop Madara. Just send the first second and third in there. If I remember correctly, the Third was stronger than the first in his prime, so with infinite chakra he should be pretty strong even in his state.
The Third was never stronger than the First. You're simply falling in the most common pitfall for Shounen, Hype and Feats/Capabilities. Hiruzen is almost entirely all hype, with little impressive showings because of his age. The First is a combination of both hype and feats
(Hiruzen was one of the most powerful shinobi in history, so much so that he was admired as the God of Shinobi (忍の神, Shinobi no Kami) in his prime, and was said to be the strongest Hokage that Konoha has ever had.) -Taken from the wiki But yeah, it is rather pointless to think about power levels when things are as they are right now.
Did you even read what I said? While I don't doubt Prime Hiruzen is one of the strongest, the only manga evidence of this is hype from Iruka. His greatest feat is redirecting Kyuubi's bijuudamas and using Edo Tensei on 1st/2nd/Orochimaru's arms, both are impressive however that's not enough to prove that he's the strongest Hokage.
I think you are confused. Hiruzen could never use Edo Tensei he got rid of Orochimaru's arms using the http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_Demon_Consuming_Seal he did the same with the resurrected 1st and 2nd hokage(they were not at all near full power as edo tensei was still not perfected) using his clones.

As I recall it, Kakashi once said that you're born with the amount of charka you're stuck with. So I guess everyone in the past had godly charka pools where they could create giant gates and summon Buddha on a whim. Isn't the new generation > old generation theme supposed to be a big thing in Naruto?

Well that fits the character we all saw at the chapters before ^^ Hell it will be even more funnier if he will resume to tell about the battle right away

tbh it's not like these summonings are impossible for naruto. Hashirama did use Sennin jutsu and Naruto is capable of using things with just the same or more power. For example, Fuuton: Rasenshuriken which is theoretically the strongest and most deadly jutsu of all, is exclusive to him - and he can throw 3? of them as a sennin.
These two fighting are the top of the top, of course they are so freaking strong.

But Naruto uses kuubi charka and sage mode. These guys just use their own pool. Even if Harishima went into some kind of sage mode at the end there, he was still spawning giant wooden beasts and rashumon just by himself. As I recall it, Kakashi can only use his lightning hand a few times and he's out. These guys can create apocalyptic jutsus and not bat an eyelash.

Oh god my sides lolol
"Madara, enraged that hashi could throw stones farther, believing it was ashaming his clan, sacrificed his best friend and brother to obtain the ultimate power. Now he can summon the kyuubi to throw stuff for him, and it actually CAN reach the other side. Mwahahahahaha take that hashiiiii."
Then hashi will defeat him and madara will go "noooo my stone throwing is not enough!" and decide the world isn't fair so he will do the moon eye plan.

Yes but these 2 guys are probably the 2 strongest since rikudo sennin and are only going to be surpassed by Naruto and Sasuke. From all the 1000's of shinobi who have lived only 5 and possibly RS's sons are ever going to reach this level so in that sense it's not surprising they're this strong.
As overpowered as it looked. Susanoo-Armored 9-Tailes looked pretty damn badass. Wonder if that's a "preview" of what the 10 tails will be like as a 3rd transformation after it evolves again and somehow still needs power from Madara.
Amazing chapter! lols at the flashback in a flashback XD Great to see that he is fleshing out Hashi and Madara'a story so that maybe we can get some answers. Anyone else see a resemblance to Naruto and Sasuke at valley of the end?
Lol it's not a backstory of a backstory. It's Hashirama explaining the past to Sasuke from the very beginning, and Kishi just decided to be creative and sandwich that explanation between glimpses of their final fight. So it will likely be: (1) showing the fight up until the point we saw, (2) showing the development of Madara Uchiha and his relationship from Hashirama from the beginning, (3) finishing up with the rest of the fight to show how Madara was defeated.
I'd be surprised if this whole story gets told in fewer than 4 chapters. Honestly, I'm expecting 10 or 11 chapters. We have to learn about:
Madara and Hashirama's relationship as kids.
How each of them came to lead the Uchiha and the Senju.
Madara's murder of his best friend, and his subsequent decision to take his brother's eyes.
The different clashes between the two leaders and their clans over the years, including whatever fight they were referencing in this chapter where Madara said, "I've changed since then."
Peace and the formation of Konoha.
Madara leaving the village.
Whatever lead directly to this fight.
Hashirama somehow tying all this shit together into an explanation of what ninja are to Sasuke.
Hell, that story could be an entire manga that spans longer than Naruto has so far.
