If I don't get that one, I'll probably be picking up a cheap TN panel like the ASUS VE228H. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236100 TT1 has this one. I'm not tied to asus but just looking at price/quality these seem like my best choices. Thanks for the help.

I mean, if you're used to CRTs and play competitive Quake, that's a different matter, but that doesn't really apply.

Doesn't seem strange, the Asus VG23AH can be tweaked to run at 75hz. A few IPS monitors can actually do this, I think there's a AOC 27" 1920x1080 IPS monitor that can, apparently, run at 100hz with some custom timings. .

Lots of people game on monitors with similar (or slightly worse) motion performance, like the Dell Ultrasharps. If you've been using a crappy TV, I don't think this is such an issue. Is there anything else close to 21.5 that would perform better for relative cost?

I'd say the VS229H-P is even slightly better than the ~$220 U2212HM because the gamma curve in the factory settings is closer to 2.2 across the board. The greys and colors are also accurate enough. And the overdrive is adjustable. The things that you don't get are a great stand (though it has VESA holes so you can install your own), USB hub, and nicer Dell warranty. I haven't seen anyone measure the S2240L yet, but I'd imagine it's not very different compared to these two. Performance differences aren't huge, but there are still some important factors that I think were worth noting and maybe basing a decision off. (the ultrasharp's gamma dips to around 2.0 across the board, so the image will be somewhat washed out and it will look worse despite the better gray accuracy).

Asus VS229H-P 21.5" - 145$ BenQ RL2450HT 24" - 180$ BenQ Rl2550HM 23"(?) - 200$ Asus VS238H-P 23" - 151 (140$ after rebate) Any ideas on which on I should choose? I am gaming on a 1080p laptop screen right now and I don't want a monitor that is going to see any drops in FPS from my current setup (my laptop has a GTX 660M).

If I were you I would drop any ideas of playing starcraft at a professional level and just start playing LoL.. Its a much more fun game, and has a much better community supporting it. + Show Spoiler + jk, go for the 21.5 ASUS

BenQ XL2420T vs ASUS VG248QE Any opinions on those two?

Edit: They're using the same panels as each other. Asus tends to have better OSD options and better presets so they're the better choice.

The IPS234 model has slowish response times: http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/2012/test-lg-ips234v-pn-teil6.html#Reaktionsverhalten though not as sloooow as some previous models: http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2011/review-lg-ips235v-part8.html#Responsiveness
