So here is my question: Are there plans to make TheStaircase less complicated and more accessible? Edit: SC2 Gears automatically saves and analyses your replays. Wouldn't it be better to use this software instead of ggtracker?

I think you are overestimating bronze players. i can win against low bronze terran just makeing probes.

I got up to Platinum simply by making Marines. When I added gas, I was promoted to Diamond, and now I've beaten a couple Masters just with Marines and upgrades. Derp.

Derp.[/QUOTE] that's kinda my point the whole idea of the stuff league up to platinum is misleading, really only aplicable to Terran with their marines, i won't say OP but they're definitely the ultimate macro-play unit. its an over-simplifcation that unit comp doesn't matter, as a toss player try facing a plat Terran with only zeolots and no AoE... lmao, u'll get owned.

Been there, done that, got to Diamond. Masters is when unit comp, scouting, and micro start to matter a lot more. That and GM Spending Skill is a lot easier to get than it sounds, especially when you're only making one unit. Also, planning your engagements well instead of throwing Zealots into the meat grinder is a good thing to do. But of course, the point of TheStaircase is to improve, not to win.

Protoss is my offrace (and I don't have hotkeys quite down for it) and I could easily do this. You're underestimating the power of macro.

Edit: Turns out I played almost all my games during season lock. lolz. Expect to be promoted fast :D I've skipped playing a couple of days, and already feel my macro has slipped a lot. I'm so supply blocked I might as well be bricking up the front of my barracks as they complete. Still positiveness will prevail. My spending after a couple of games went back up to GM/Masters. I HATE reapers, require far more mirco than I currently posses to do anything half decent with.

If you are macroing properly, you can get to gold league easily with step 1 for any race, maybe even platinum. Also, winning doesn't matter for moving on to the next step. On May 03 2013 03:33 ProbeEtPylon wrote: The point of TheStaircase is not so much following every step of the staircase precisely; it is rather convincing low leagues players that focusing on macro is the way to go if you want to improve rapidly. Although your method is an effective way for improving, your spreadsheet is rather complicated and the explanation video is in need of improvement. I'm not going to elaborate these points, as I am sure you are aware of it yourself. So here is my question: Are there plans to make TheStaircase less complicated and more accessible? Edit: SC2 Gears automatically saves and analyses your replays. Wouldn't it be better to use this software instead of ggtracker? The staircase is going to be much less complicated and more accessible because there will be a specific staircase program within ggtracker (for free) that you can use and will tell you whether you pass or fail as well as which area's are your weakest/strongest. and the point of TheStaircase is to provide players with an alternative method of improvement to the "do only one build" method, which can be very unfun and monotonous. Convincing a player that macro is the way to go is not enough. Many players need help learning how to improve their macro as much as why they should improve it. Just create a custom game against no opponent, build your 3 hatcheries and at least 4 queens (3 for inject, 1 for creep) and begin injecting while spreading creep. You are done when you have covered the map in creep. Do this with a 80% race macro percentage or higher 3/5 games and you win!

On the minerals only stage I only managed to get to the top of bronze (in the HotS beta) before passing the benchmarks and moving on (although I feel like I could have done it indefinitely and not got promoted). I was going for Masters benchmarks so I don't think I was macroing THAT horribly either. I mean to beat mass slowlings all the other person has to do is wall themselves in and tech to any AoE .. it doesn't matter if you take 8 bases, 3 colossi will kill infinite slowlings. I should point out I was only ever attacking after getting saturated on at least 2 bases though (I mean this is a macro exercise).. so maybe that's why. Any zerg out there manage to make Gold without taking a gas? (and without early pooling, obviously it's already been demonstrated you can make GM if you do well enough that but that hardly helps your macro)

Edit: Also "Get Out "? .. hate to see that from such a good player.

When I was on pure Marine, I found myself losing most games my opponent decided to build tons of Banelings, Hellbats, or Colossi. The only times I won were when I was on 3/4 bases and I contained my opponent on 2/3. It could also easily be the case that micro is a lot more important for massing Zerglings than it is for Marines and Zealots; Zerglings are a lot faster and a lot weaker. Oh, and you don't even have Ling speed at step 1. Yeah, I'm seeing how this could be the case. Although I wouldn't bet on it until you are consistently hitting GM spending skill.

After all this time messing with sc2 and making all the noobs help tools you are talking about gold and platinum. It just makes no sense that you haven't improved one tiny bit over this time. I don't want to be mean or whatever, but come on - when are you finally start playing the game Jak? I mean - everyday i see this threads of yours getting a few new pages but somehow you are all missing the point about playing a game. You actually have to play the game not just get ready to play the game...eventually...maybe one day..

Unfortunately, not all of us have 5hr+ per day to play Starcraft (as sad and depressing as that may seem)!
