Also, does anyone own a Mexican Fender?
I'd love to have an HSS strat, but I'm not sure the Standard Strats are worth the cost.
Do I end up paying mostly for the name?

This video goes over really nicely on the differences from squire to custom shop models:

"Fairly cheap" is a rather weird term for me when talking about ~600 Euro. As a student, that's quite a bit of cash. I have to work 60 hours for that. But then again, I spend so many hours on the intruments that it's worth it in the long run.

I went to a store yesterday to fool around a bit and came out with an overall good impression of the ROS-06, but it definitely sounded worse than the Breedlove models I messed with. Granted, the Breedlove models were more expensive, but I like the general sound of their instruments more ... they didn't stock a C200/SMP though (aka the budget line I'm most interested in), so I can't accurately compare. D: Or if you have a cheap recommendation for me to look at (~$300) that is also not a dreadnaught (too uncomfortable, do not want, something more OM/000 is my style), then feel free to throw some at me.

I got it for $950 at wildwood guitars. (Both a store and an online shop.) I've never looked back. I was deciding between the fender american standard and some PRS SE models. None of them were as solid as this guitar. Everything Reverend makes felt like I was playing up a price point. Hey people. How do you find people to play in a band? I think we all know the "Hey, yeah I'd love to play with you sometime" conversation that never actually pans out. I'm not good so I don't think I could attempt to join a band that already exists, but I want to play with other people... somehow. I spend my guitar playing time learning solo songs, jaming with recordings, or practicing rhythm/scales/etc. Please tell me if any of you have ideas. These are my ideas: Play in a local "jam" (They have these at restaurants, but they are very intimidating. You get on stage and everything.) Join the college band. (I don't even know if they use electric guitar. When I sent them an email they never responded to me.)

I'll try looking around there! No it's not lefty. I just took the picture with my computer. It reverses the horizontal axis so it doesn't feel like a mirror.

All other picks feel too big now.Are those the Dunlop red picks you are using? If so, high five. Speaking of strats, i'm thinking swapping the stock pickups on mine. Anyone got any tips for some nice vintage ish single coils? I use that guitar for blues and some clean/crunch on classic rock songs mostly. I ordered a couple books for learning proper classical guitar method. I have an extensive musical background so I figured I might as well put it to use and learn classical guitar. So that means I get to go classical guitar shopping this weekend. I haven't gone guitar shopping in 3 years so it should be fun. I have a few in mind I want to try out. The local shop has a few La Patrie guitars that I liked, and I've yet to find a bad review for any of them. Plus they have semi-gloss finishes and are made in Canada (I believe where they also make Godin and a couple other brands in Quebec). I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to pickups and stuff now as I am totally happy with everything I have, but the Vintage Noiseless set I have in my old strat is decent enough for bluesy stuff. I'm sure there is probably something better now for the blues/rock sound in a Strat. Also here's a fun picture with a friendly reminder to always cover your pickups when doing a fret polishing job. If you don't, the particles from the 0000 steel wool can really mess up your pickups. + Show Spoiler +The particles clung to the magnet through the tape. Also, note one of the many nasty chunks out of the finish on the lower horn. This guitar was put through hell but I absolutely baby it now. Here's a couple more pictures of fixing that guitar up. I just found them randomly. I don't remember taking them. To block the Floyd Rose I have an eraser I carved to fit in underneath so it stays up and doesn't fall in the cavity. I used to be able to do a full setup on a Floyd Rose-equipped guitar in about an hour, now it takes me 2. Though I did a whole bunch to clean up other stuff though. + Show Spoiler + Almost fully taped off neck. I leave the last few frets and tape them as I finish polishing the previous because they are so narrow and I am too lazy to cut tape. The steel ruler is for doing the truss rod. How I tape over my pickups. I use low-tack masking tape obviously, same with for the fretboard. Finished polishing the frets. Shiny After that I redid the truss rod because it was waaaaaay out of whack, then cleaned up the Schaller Floyd Rose bridge because it was icky (which is a proper German-made Floyd even though it is Jackson branded, not like those new cheapy Floyds they have on many guitars now), then threw strings on and set it up.

Better picture My current guitar. Thinking of getting SH2N and SH4N to mimick a guitarist's tone :D Coilsplit is so delicious. I'm so happy with this guitar. I think if I'm ever buying a new one, it would be one of those ESP Japanese custom artist series, they're pretty badass.

I will be starting off tomorrow. I will be learning on my own... at least to get some basics and get a feeling for the guitar itself. I don't want to visit a music school without having at least a bit of feeling for it, but I consider it after getting a few things. I got myself a nice Yamaha Pacifica 112 BL and a Peavey Vypyr VIP 1. + Show Spoiler + Hope to rock Wish me best of luck! :D
