Galactic Civilizations 3 Commonly known as GalCiv 3
Galactic Civilizations III (commonly GalCiv III or GalCiv3) is an upcoming 4X turn-based strategy PC game by Stardock. It is the sequel to 2006's Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords.
On October 15, 2013 Stardock announced that the third installment in the Galactic Civilizations series was in production. It will be made exclusively for 64-bit PCs. While no release date has been announced, "Founder" packages have become available allowing individuals to pre-order the game. While details are sparse it has been revealed that it will be the first game in the series to feature multiplayer and hex-based game tiles.
I played the shit out of Gal Civ 2. Surprised I missed this when it was announced last October. It looks like they're making good improvements to pretty much every part of the game. Player influenced battles, strategic resources, ideologies and technology specialization, a little more depth in planet building and the economy. Between this and Civ Beyond Earth, it's looking pretty good for space strategy games this year.

I really hope that was a joke. :D
I'm a pretty big Stardock fan. They catch a lot of grief, but I really appreciate what they try to do. Especially with AI- instead of giving it cheats, more stuffs, and smoke and mirrors, they actually try to make decent AI's to offer a challenge. Doesn't always work out, sometimes it runs into problems, but GalCiv 2's AI was considered one of the best. On top of that, Stardock as a company does really great things for the industry as a whole (investment fund etc) and for people interested in working on games.
Hopefully Fallen Enchantress will adopt the Civ 5 hexagons as well. :p

correction screamingpalm, it is the best ai on turn-based games... although it does have its own problems, i don't know any ai that comes even close to this wasn't this originally an indie game that got notoriously popular because of its ai?
really appreciate it too... making games visually pleasing is easy nowadays but making ai smarter is another thing. hex is better than square in every way.
I played it for around 9h with some during the lasts betas. As a background I have played very little of GC2 so I cannot really compare. I'm a big Civ5 player.
Pros: -I find it very pleasant to look at and play. The UI is good with lot of interface shortcuts to make managing fast and easy like ordering constructors in starbases or assigning waypoints from the govern menu. -Battles are cute to look at but could use some better camera controls. Although after a while you'll probably skip them but the major ones. -I like the whole improvement synergies and the whole colonization and planet management part. Starbases specialization is also good -Ship designer seems to offer a lot of strategical and cosmetic options but it's too soon for me to say and I mostly used predesigned ships.
Cons: -The AI felt average so far. Maybe it will be improved but I was a bit disappointed to outtech and have bigger armies than the AI on my second game on Challenging (normal +1). -The second half of the game feels rather limited. A bit like vanilla civ5. Planet improvement slow down etc -I don't know why the game takes so much RAM space... first game I ever had alerts for a lack of memory (I have 8G). And it's only on large size map (the middle ! it goes up to insane which is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE).
I was able to get the game a long time ago for around 30$. Worth it at this price at least. If you're a fan of GC2 it still seems to give more or less as much features (not exactly the same) but I'll be more curious when they make additional content and features like governments or more lategame terraforming.
Edit: To be fair it is a bit like many early access and kickstarter games. It is not exactly finished and I expect a lot of patching in the following months.
