The bng champ qualifiers ? They are better value than dailies if you have a win percentage better than 52%.

Guys ... 3 CMC. Rise of BW Humans and decline of UW verdicts?

3 CMC card advantage that punishes Wraths. Huh. This has potential in Modern. Legacy I'm a little less confident about since it still doesn't dodge Terminus. Still, costing less than 4 definitely puts this into playable territory even finding the right shell might be a bit hard. (Ajani why couldn't you have been 3 CMC zzzz)

"Gives opponent a choice" is always a detractor. Card isn't going to be as good as it seems. Certainly not in modern where the premier removal is exile. Also, it only becomes a god with 3 (most often) other creatures on the board. I don't think terminus is going to be the thing keeping it from play.
Having said that, I'm no pro deck builder, and I've been wrong before.

My body exploded. This thing will replace my necros.

From a standard point of view, I think this will be good sideboard versus control in Orzhov Weenie decks because they can't afford that life loss if you're applying sufficient pressure. I don't think it's good versus many other decks though unless you're already far enough ahead that the life loss will kill them.
Also, why replace Necros? Run them both!
edit: Just realized...would this be really good in Melira Pod decks? Well maybe not because it shuts off the combo. But could a different kind of pod deck come to life with this card?

Wrath yourself, get an army AND get your cards back :D

Quick side question: is it a replacement effect such that a card like Ashen Rider would not trigger, or is it a trigger that happens once the creature hits the graveyard (such that something like Scavenging Ooze or Deathrite Shaman could eat it)?

It's a trigger. "Whenever [condition], [do stuff]" type abilities are always triggers.

For absolute certainty, we can refer to the 614.1 of the Comprehensive Rules which specifies exactly what a Replacement Effect is. It is generally very clear when something is a replacement effect, because it tells you to do something exactly as written.
614. Replacement Effects - 614.1a. Effects that use the word "instead" are replacement effects. Most replacement effects use the word "instead" to indicate what events will be replaced with other events.
- 614.1b. Effects that use the word "skip" are replacement effects. These replacement effects use the word "skip" to indicate what events, steps, phases, or turns will be replaced with nothing.
- 614.1c. Effects that read "[This permanent] enters the battlefield with . . . ," "As [this permanent] enters the battlefield . . . ," or "[This permanent] enters the battlefield as . . . " are replacement effects.
- 614.1d. Continuous effects that read "[This permanent] enters the battlefield . . ." or "[Objects] enter the battlefield . . ." are replacement effects.
- 614.1e. Effects that read "As [this permanent] is turned face up . . . ," are replacement effects.
Triggered effects as jampidampi said are conditional and often use words like "when". As 603 of the Comprehensive Rules states:
603. Handling Triggered Abilities - 603.1. Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as "[Trigger condition], [effect]," and begin with the word "when," "whenever," or "at." They can also be expressed as "[When/Whenever/At] [trigger event], [effect]."
For your specific question, when Ashen Rider dies (i.e. leaves the Battlefield for the Graveyard its ability immediately triggers. This trigger occurs before Ashen Rider even hits the Graveyard. Therefore you can't "negate" the trigger by trying to remove it from the Graveyard. The trigger has already occurred.
The issue of this being a replacement ability is irrelevant to the case at hand tbh. More accurately, your opponent has two creatures (the DRS and Ooze) who both have activated abilities. Neither of these can replace the trigger or interrupt it so there's nothing they can do short of casting something like Stifle.

I really don't like how at odds this is with the current BG strategy, at least in standard. There are quite a few cards like Jarad, Nighthowler and Shadowborn Demon based around having many creatures in your graveyard, so getting rid of them seems counterintuitive. The deck wasn't especially weak to wraths either, so that's definitely not where this fits in.
|
I agree. I just don't see where this card fits...and the ability isn't anything special either. The only thing she has going for it is the low mana cost.
|
This card is meant for some kind of more aggressive build. Too bad BGx is missing good two drops. Might try to brew this with some kind of aggro-jund for additional resources.

Doesn't seem great but it is a very cheap threat. Since I'm thinking of playing junk I'm tossing up between her, athreos and karametra. The main attraction of these decks is that you have access to this kind of curve
1: experiment one, soldier of the pantheon 2: voice of resurgence, sylvan caryatid, pack rat, fleecemane lion, cartel aristocrat 3: herald of torment, courser of kruphix, sin collector, loxodon smiter, boon satyr 4: desecration demon, reaper of the wilds 5: blood baron
Past this your curve goes into ajani/vraska/elspeth and the whole package is supported by golgari charm, selesnya charm, abrupt decay, ready/willing, putrefy etc.
There are two ways you can go, IMO, one is to push aggression with soldiers, fleecemanes, demons, smiters etc. The other is to be annoying and grindy with experiment one, voice, fleecemane, reaper etc. lots of 'answer me now' threats. Athreos helps the former more than the latter in theory, but in experience I've found that the grindy deck generally needs to get just a few more points of damage through so athreos might help it a lot.
Looking forward to the BG mythic and uncommon that seem like they should be coming in this set too.

So the UG God got my inner Timmy all worked up, and I jammed a whole bunch of Bant gold cards into a pile:
Tapped Out + Show Spoiler +2 Beck / Call 3 Courser of Kruphix 4 Detention Sphere 1 Horizon Chimera 3 Hydra Broodmaster 1 Karametra, God of Harvests 3 Kiora's Follower 1 Kiora, the Crashing Wave 3 Kruphix, God of Horizons 2 Prophet of Kruphix 1 Simic Charm 4 Sphinx's Revelation 3 Sylvan Caryatid 3 Urban Evolution
4 Breeding Pool 4 Hallowed Fountain 4 Temple Garden 1 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx 1 Forest 1 Plains 4 Temple of Enlightenment 4 Temple of Mystery 3 Temple of Plenty
Sideboard: 2 Archangel of Thune 1 Beck / Call 2 Cyclonic Rift 2 Horizon Chimera 2 Prophet of Kruphix 1 Scavenging Ooze 2 Selesnya Charm 2 Simic Charm 2 Syncopate
Sideboard plan is to bring in the creature package against B/U devotion decks, Syncopate against Rev/Jace decks, Selesnya Charm against monsters of various colors, Simic Charm as super secret anti-DSphere tech, plus a few others to tweak as necessary.
Thoughts? I'm fine being told that it's just nonsense, but if you see a way to turn it into something reasonable, I'd love to hear it.

Needs more 1-ofs.
EDIT : regarding BnG qualifs, yeah they have better EV than Dailys but well they're also nearly 3 times as expensive and longer to play. In the end I don't really know if they're worth it (went 4/1 in the last one I played so I'm already qualified anyway).

I dunno, my Junk deck is basically Caryatid/Voice to Smiter to Demon to Blood Baron/Obzedat into Elspeth. Starting to think the Smiters should be Reapers, but given that Wraths are the best way to deal with Reaper, I'm inclined to run Athreos at least in the sideboard, probably in the main because I'm running Obzedat.

But tons of players already got the qualification so they just go back to daily events (playing them just increases the number of possible players so there's no reason to play in them if you're qualified as BnG boosters dropped so much).

turns out you can Melira pod combo with Atheros
So do y'all think Atheros would be a good 1 of (side or main) in Melira Pod?
