Looking to send some money Amazon's way when my pay comes in http://www.amazon.com/The-Advancing-Guitarist-Mick-Goodrick/dp/0881885894/ This book is very difficult to get into. (I'd recommend reading inside a bit before you buy.) It is a book on what to practice. You need to be able to read music to understand it. http://www.amazon.com/Art-Practicing-Guide-Making-Music/dp/0609801775/ This book teaches you how to practice. It's written by someone who does meditation. Most of the advice is about how to turn a practice into something that gets you ready to preform. It also covers important issue of how to avoid getting injured playing an instrument. http://www.amazon.com/Melodic-Rhythms-Guitar-William-Leavitt/dp/0634013327/ This is a book for learning how to play guitar melodies from a musical staff. It is awesome. If you're looking for a book specifically on music theory I've never found a good one. They are always painfully obvious or too complicated. I'd recommend reading wikipedia and using youtube. + Show Spoiler [Music Theory Channels] +

As funding was tight in my primary school, I didn't get allocated a 'proper' loan instrument, despite being able to sight read (albeit in a limited range of keys and staves) at 8 years old. Sort of cba with formal musical tuition after that, good job I haven't really found that many good resources on my own that suit my own way of assimilating information but will give some of these a try. The problem I find is that usually it's a 'oh that all makes sense, I get that' only for it to disappear from my head within a day or two, if that makes sense. I think if nothing else I have to properly grind out stuff until it's stuck there, thanks man!

Speaking of, I tried to join a band. I got an audition, but I was rejected... T_T This is going to be a long journey. I've been using Craigslist and asking pretty much everyone who is looking for a guitar player.

I've been in a band for the last year and a half, my first band ever! lots of cherrys popped with these guys, first proper gig, first fail moment on stage, first groupie(albeit she is a krazy with a capital K). We have members who are technically amazing, and some who aren't the most technical but do exactly whats needed extremely well. We've had ups and downs and all that shit and we have barely traveled more than an hour outside our town lol. I play gtar and recently my pedalboard has turned into a spaceship(pics soon hopefully, no camera phone D https://www.facebook.com/BobbyShadesBand Check us out, any feedback is gewd feedback!

So far, I've sanded it down and rewired everything. Instead of 2x vol and 2x tone (who needs that anyway) its now just 1 volume (push-pull pot) and a 3-way switch. I've invested in some new humbuckers which can be coilsplit with the vol-pot. I've moved the 3-way switch from the usual top-placement and re-used a pot-hole in the bottom for it instead. I have a bad habit of pickup-switching when strumming, but no more,. http://imgur.com/nJ1q96v a work-in-progress picture, from when I thought I wanted a tone pot also. Its equipped with stock-pickups just so I could get an impression of a finished result. The new PU's dont have covers. Also re-using a pot-hole for jack-input, because the standard placement kept dropping my cable. Also I thought it was a snassy place to put it. All the modding and wiring has really opened my eyes for what can be done yourself with your instruments. I'm already thinking of making my P-bass active and maybe adding a second pickup. It is as though I can costumize an instrument to get exactly the sound I want, and it kinda makes me not want to buy a "pre-fitted" instrument when I can just make one myself. Well so to say. Maybe, just maybe, if I used all the time modding on actual playing music instead, I'd make all the customizing and money spent worth it

Would this be a good starter for someone wanting to learn his first guitar? Is the brand ok for the price or would you guys recommend other ones? I've asked before but I didn't get any replies so I'm trying here again! Any feedback is greatly appreciated thanks!

I'm not familiar with that particular instrument, but I've had good experiences with every Yamaha I've tried. I'd say go for it and start playing! Make sure to get a strap! (Not a bad idea to get a clip-on tuner too. An ipod will do the trick with free apps, but you'll need everyone to be quiet for it to work.)

I was thinking a Peavey 6505+ Combo. Peavey 6505+ Combo Has anyone had experience with this amp? Any other suggestions? Just in case anyone is wondering: Guitar: Epi G400 '66 Pro Current Amp: 15w Crate SS Owned effects: Digi rp255 Stuff I Play: Almost anything except Country -__-. But I do lean more to Metal. I've played Classical guitar and acoustic my whole life, and just recently decided to get an electric guitar.

If you are playing at home only and lean to metal, I can suggest the Peavey Triple X. I own the head version and its awesome and can be played at low volumes. The 6505 is a great sounding amp imo but it is not that versatil. And you have to crank it to get good sound...

Thanks for responding. I'm having a hard time finding any place the carries a Peavey XXX. I'll check out local pawns to see . Also looked up and it's also a 60w combo tube. Won't I have the same volume issue? Two questions ^_^: 1) What versatility issues does the 6505 have? 2) And how are Peavey Valveking Combos or Randall RD Combos ? 3) How many watts should my tube be?

How many watts really depends on what you're using it for... My buddy has a Blackstar... I can't recall the model but I want to say it was either 40w or 60w with 2x12" celestion speakers. Sounds amazing playing it quiet or loud, and it handles itself quite well playing with the whole band. I'd say the best thing to do would be to either try as many amps as you can in person, or look up stuff on youtube to try and get an idea of the tone you get from various amps. I love my buddy's Blackstar amp, but that's just me... maybe you'd like something else better

I've got a 100W Peavey ValveKing 212 and I can tell you that it's awesome for metal but, as Sewi pointed out, it's not really made to be played at a low volume.
