Good bye BCS, hello College Football Playoffs! Not really much to discuss in terms of rule changes, just some adjustments to the highly controversial 'targeting' penalty.
For conference changes, the major ones include Maryland and Rutgers moving to the Big Ten from the ACC and The American respectively, while Louisville will take over from Maryland in the ACC, coming from The American.
What else to talk about? Spring games have already started, and many interesting QB battles across the country have already erupted. One from the top of my head is Max Browne and Cody Kessler over at USC. Anyone from USC want to comment on that?

Dorial Green-Beckham suspended indefinitely today for team rules violation. Will be a pretty big blow for them imo since he seems to be a high level threat.
As for Maryland and Rutgers moving to the Big 10 I think it's kind of funny that Ralph Friedgen is joining the Rutgers staff and will be playing against them. Rumor has it that GT tried to hire him after he was fired because he was with the team when we won our last national title but he refused and said he wasn't coaching anymore. It's also said that he burned his Maryland diploma after being fired but idk how true that is. Sounds like he holds a pretty big grudge and Rutgers gives him an opportunity to act on it. Also in their Big 10 division they'll have to play Penn St and their former head coach in waiting James Fanklin each year so they're probably going to be punished real hard.
I'm just hoping anything relating to targeting goes better this year. I feel like it really killed some games. I'm a GT student but I won't even deny that UGA got fucked by the targeting rule against Vandy last year. With so many of the ejections being overturned it was just dumb that you couldn't challenge the penalty too or at least have it reduced.
I'm also interested to see how it will all go down with the playoffs and if 2 SEC teams are going to get invited in leaving a major conference champion out. Like this last year Michigan St would have probably been left out by a lot of people but I felt like they showed some really good games and would have been a good fit in the playoffs instead of Alabama. Not really a fan of title game rematches even if the Iron Bowl was ridiculously close.

Also, shame that such a talented player has gotten into trouble so many times, but it's his fault more than anything. He has no one to blame but himself. Either way, all of these indiscretions will see his draft stock fall, maybe like Randy Moss in 1998. I guess that's probably true. I guess I still live in a fantasy world where suspensions matter haha.

Maybe I should have taken the million esports dollar bet. I'm pretty surprised he got completely kicked off. You don't really see that all too often these days I feel. I mean, I guess Mark Richt ends up kicking out a few players each year but overall you don't hear about it that much. Unfortunate for Auburn that they won't be able to get him before he's draft eligible

Poor guy, he looked pretty good when he filled in for Franklin when he was injured.

old news now, but i knew kessler would be the QB over max browne. max browne has better NFL measureables and may throw a better looking ball, but he's not up to game speed mentally yet, he hesitates too much with the ball. kessler was the starting QB of a 10-4 team that ranked in the top 20 in the final polls. he wasn't going to be unseated.
i'm excited for our defense, which should be really good this year. on offense, our biggest question mark is the o-line. we finally have the players on our roster, but they are all frosh/sophs. otherwise i think we're in good shape. we have 4 stud RBs and i think we finally have a legit red zone target in darreus rogers to go along nelson agoholor's playmaking ability. sark is moving to a fast-paced O, and his schemes tend to utilize TEs more so hopefully we will be spreading the ball more frequently than what we saw with kiffin.
i can't wait for football season to begin!

Look at that turnover. I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC went back to its feasting defenses this season.

Yeah. afaik the only ones that have had any real starting experience are Dylan Thompson and Maty Mauk. Hutson Mason played 2 games last year for UGA after Aaron Murray went down but I wasn't impressed. I'm not sure what Coker did at FSU before transferring. Pretty much lost almost every top QB they had in the conference.

pretty sure coker had the unfortunate role of backing up both e.j. manuel and jameis winston (which is why he's able to play immediately this season, having graduated i guess).
speaking of them, if winston does get drafted in the first round next year, that makes it three fsu qb's taken in a row in the first round (ponder, manuel, winston). can anyone name a college who's done this before?

Preseason conference media poll picks
SEC: + Show Spoiler +East - South Carolina West - Alabama Champion - Alabama
ACC: + Show Spoiler +Coastal - Miami Atlantic - Florida State Champion - Florida State
Big 10: + Show Spoiler +East - Ohio State West - Wisconsin Champion - Ohio State
Big 12: + Show Spoiler +1st - Oklahoma 2nd - Baylor 3rd - Kansas State
Pac 12: + Show Spoiler +North - Oregon South - UCLA Champion - Oregon
Not really any surprises although the ACC Coastal is usually a shitshow so it wouldn't really surprise me to see anyone but UVA win it. Hoping Michigan State can pull off another Big 10 win rather than Ohio State. I'm moving to Big 10 country so I guess I should probably find a team there to root for and will probably go with Michigan State since I saw them beat UGA live at the Outback Bowl and got a Spartans hat while there.

I immediately thought of early-mid 80s Miami with Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, and Vinny Testaverde.
Looking it up, all did go in the first round, though there might be some caveats there; Kelly was the clear starter but was injured most of his senior season so Mark Richt (lol) played, and Kosar went in the supplemental draft.
edit: oh shit, Steve Walsh went in the first round too.

Whoever wrote that article is an idiot.
1. He did need surgery on the the shoulder back in February. 2. He didn't play in spring ball and did not even begin throwing a football until at best late last week, while going through rehab the entire time. It's not like he only threw a tennis ball for one day since his surgery and was just like 'YAY LETS THROW A FOOTBALL NOW!"
