Hi there. Bow style is very viable. Actually very strong right now and it is not at all hard to level it without making a "farming-character" first to get yourself currency / items etc.
I like this build for both tornado and split arrow setups. I love puncture as main attack. Your friends / the linked forum can help you finding the good link setups =)
This is pretty much a "glass canon" style. At least it is not very tanky, but it is not extremely squishy either if played right. I think I died 2 times or so in rampage league, so that's a few weeks of playtime. Bandits = help oak on normal, help oak on cruel and either help Alira on merciless (if you decide on going for power charges) or kill all bandits.

well anyway i'd be looking for raw HP. Everything else should be doable I think.
TBH if ur looking to farm wealth and not necessarily make a busted spec to clear super-endgame content then u should just run piety a lot until you feel comfortable running dominus, then run him a lot. Do it in 6-man drops for the gear
Yeah, I read a bit about boss farming and seems like my build should do it really easily. Bosses are like monkeys with the totems and I generally just AFK while they run around deciding which totem to attack while dying.
As for the chaos, yep, first time I've ever had a positive chaos res character, hell my 80 something LA ranger was still -60% i believe. I'm not sure how it happened but I got a few pieces (rings/boots/chest) that have insane dual/tri res, so on other pieces like gloves, helm, amulet I went full life/chaos res/amour etc. Also in this build, you get 4 +life +chaos resist nodes which certainly helped.
I'm not even sure it's worth having so much chaos resist but some how it's happened and it seems kinda neat.
My HP should start getting up there now that I've greedily taken most all of my fire/burn/totem damage nodes. I was greedy and took those before a lot of my life nodes because the build just felt so safe while leveling. It was a nice change of pace as I'm generally incredibly safe and get all my life nodes before taking any offensive things.
Shockwave Totem is much better.
I know, in retrospect, I'd never play this build again. It's not that fun, nor is it better than other totem bro builds. I ultimately tried this because it's a new skill (for me) and my friend was already doing SWT may he RIP in piece. In the end, at least searing bond builds level fast and are incredibly CHEAP.
This character will do nicely farming piety/dom and maybe some maps until I accumulate enough wealth or get bored enough to reroll something else. I really loved my cycloner, maybe I'll try that again.
What's wrong with totem builds? They clear decently fast, benefit from player stats (e.g. power charges), allow MF and protect you pretty well. Personally I find any build boring after a while, my biggest gripe with totem builds has always been the slow clear speed (even back when spork totems were "overpowered"), which is why I miss my selfcasting MF discharger.
How do you MF with a selfcast discharger cO
That was on Standard with voll's amulet. Get powercharges en masse with voll's armour and ice spear, discharge, have a ton of endurance charges, ice spear, full charges (never went for frenzy), discharge, 80k dps. Had MF on all items that allowed it (except for amulet, obviously).
ezpz
Had 350 iir 150 iiq.
oh well volls ammy keke ^^ cause standard burn discharger would be mediocre mf i guess ^^

Thanks heaps, this is exactly what I was after! <3 I'll let you guys know if I start playing enough to be a useful group member.
If you're looking to be tankier(this is debatable) here is my lvl 80 version of the tornado shot build with 204% life/no crit/high armor i played her in the beyond league til she died at lvl 82 to fracture hand of na'ems. Idk in POE u cannot make a character that can live through everything. As an example though, i had not so good gear and 5.2k life 12k resting armor and 36k armor with a granite and jade flask up.
edit -i was just looking at the post directly above mine and didnt read everything u wrote about being a glass cannonamnd im going to assume ur playing softcore. Don't play the above build, lol. That build above is one of the tankiest builds u can currently make in POE and still do dmg.

Well the game mechanics almost don't allow you to take damage without sustaining it by doing damage which you then leech back. The only way to go AFK and still survive is imo Aegis Aurora + ridicouls armor + life reg. But even then you need to have lucky block/evade rolls ^^

Well... u can get like 10% regen and ridiculous life and good armor all together, but you won't deal damage... that should be enough to afk most things though.
I've started an Arc build, still seems to be ridicolous. So fun as it's really easy to play, since Arc kinda autoaims. Makes grinding much easier since monsters that flee etc. are not annoying. I've bought a wand with +2 lightning skill gems level and a total of about 80% spell dmg for just 1c... that kinda seemed too cheap for me. I'm using it to great efficiency right now. I'm just missing a faster casting, but the levels make up for it (beside the wand being pretty good itself anyway).

Uh, your build is missing 3 very good critical nodes... The ones at Shadow. They're better than the Heartseeker nodes (by far). I would ditch the 3 accuracy&crit nodes for them, as getting high accuracy is easy. Still this is a very squishy build, but you said so and he wanted one so that's fine I guess. You will need to be very careful of physical spells like from Undying Evangelists or Glacial Cascade from frogs or Hailrake.

Why not take all three clusters? The build is only at 99 points which is around lvl 80. You have no way to travel for any of those clusters so you can always decide what you need most at the time and respec the other for the moment.
For the physical dmg part: That's why I don't like Evasion builds for HC. There are some rare cases with phys dmg where Evasion does nothing for you. And then it's suddenly over. I think playing an evasion build in HC makes Lightning Coil kinda necessary.

so much dex to then make it could for nothing.
been thinking about tanky tornado for a bit
when u go iron reflexes doesnt all that dex essentially go in the bin? it gives no evasion and therefor no armor?
and yeah i have no idea how peopel dont die with evasion builds in hc. its a fact that you are gonna get crit in the face at some point by something really powerful straight after losing say 10-15% of your hp ... you are dead even if he couldnt one shot you. Its just a matter of time. Also the 30% dodge skills i think are logically way overrated for previous reasoning.
I just did a softcore crit tornado shot with huge evasion to prove the point to myself, i feel like im kiting like a boss every single fight. I daren't face tank anything for even 2-3 hits or i nearly die ... only lvl 60. I died 4 times - 1 to an ice nova chest when i just moved to merciless adn the other 1 shot in sarn starting area in merciless. The other 2 were a laggy desync that i would of avoided in beyond and me being a retard and leaving room whilst in grace period.
This is where i got to - really regretting not getting the evasion + hp nodes at start but really wanted to test to low hp thing. But then basically got all other local hp nodes - they arnt enough. lvl 60 i am basically 1.8k hp, i need to be at more like 2.5 at least probably trying to push 3.5-4k mark. + Show Spoiler +
other things, because of the need to hp, then wanting to run 2 auras (grace + a resist as i am using basically self found), i never really got to finish all the dmg nodes which i wanted to get prior to then ramping up the crit. On reflection i think i needed a more balanced approach to dmg and crit - the little crit i got has a great effect and has value despite low dmg imo.

You have major flaws in your argumentation. There are some mechanics that 1) reduce ur effective chance to be hit majorly 2) makes you take less damage even if you have few armor. Evasion and Dodge are both different mechanics to nullify any incoming physical damage. Therefor when you have 50% evasion and 30% your enemies essenatially have (0,5*0,7) effectivly 35% chance to hit you. Factor in Ondar's for projectile attacks and this decreases to 0,175 ergo 17,5% chance to be hit. 50% chance to evade is very mediocre so yea. For non-bow builds you can go ahead and calculate that with at least 25% block chance.
The big unique for almost every acrobatic build tho is Lightning Coil converting 40% of the raw incoming physical damage to lightning damage therefor you have about 30% "natural" armor due to lightning coil and assuming 75% max res. Popping a granite + topaz + jade flask should make you facetank everything that isnt Accurate and has major Extra damage mods.
A neat addition to all this (especially for melee) is CWDT + Ice Nova/Fire Storm + Blind. Blind reduces enemies chance to hit by another 50%.

Playing the EV version of the build - Puncture/Tornado Shot without crit; currently level 84. I have enough buffer to take a crit and can flask back up to full life. Blaming RNG for your death is pretty much the cop out to I misplayed and RIPed. (Phase) Acrobatics is not much worse than armor for your EK (and other stuff that can't be evaded) mitigation. As long as you're using immortal call it shouldn't kill you anyway unless you get one shot. The real benefit is that playing a bow build with ondar's guile makes reflect a cake walk.
The mechanics that killed you (ice nova on a box) probably would have killed you regardless of what build you were playing. Getting one shot by perpetus because is because you only have 1.8k hitpoints in act 3 merciless. Not because you're playing some EV build ^_^
Does anyone know whether the % increased cold damage on quality Herald of Ice is global or only counts for Herald? If it's global it might be worth linking Enhance to it.
Trying a Spectral Throw build using the high crit bases and high flat phys dmg to crit-->freeze (and knockback) everything. Running Hatred and Herald. Atm. Right now, I can freeze almost everything except bosses and resist/high life rares and I havn't even put one point into any crit multi. Will see how it goes when I reach maps. Btw. why is Hege's Era so expensive? It's like 15ex on Beyond. I got a staff with similar DPS and a bit less Crit Base for like 10c. It only misses the cool PCoKB and +1PC. That's not really worth like 14ex extra, lol.

As far as I could gather from my testing everything you link to HoC applies only to the on death trigger part. Therefor I would assume the %Cold from quality also only applies to the Nova breaking out from the dead targets.
The progression of Damage from the HoC-Nova makes me even more certain the quality bonus only applies to it. Herald of Ice Lv20 141-211 Ice Nova Lv20 185–289

Huh? It doesn't even affect the added cold dmg to spells/attacks? That's very badly worded then.

The quality does affect all damage according to Vipermagi.
