Think I'm gonna try and stay loyal to my local scene and watch the P4K weeklies, though, even though some other stuff like the Foundry has more reknowned players. So, I mentioned the Big House article and staff being busy a few posts ago. What IS the current outlook on the TL Smash community? The team? Actual news articles? Does TL need more volunteers? we can always use more people to keep the wiki up to date, I think optotyper(who is awesome) did basically everything for TBH4

It'd be something like... (where the numbers are their rough worldwide rank) 1-5 - Olympic 6-15 - A+ 16-30 - A 31-60 - A- 61-100 - B+ 101-150 - B 151-250 - B- 251-400 - C+ 401-600 - C 601-800 - C- 801-1200 - D+ ok I'm not totally sure what I'm saying right now since it's very late... maybe SSBMRank should rate people in iCCup ratings instead of that "1-10" scale? :D also, I'm probably still in the mid-D+ range Still, Melee is a bit different from BW in that each game is higher variance, and there are a lot more matchups, so people have some chance to beat players even 2-3 rating classes above them if a bunch of stars align. There are too many hidden bosses in various regions (japan, south america etc.) that also come into play when you start calculating anything within the 100 range

I'm actually going to a small ~15 man tourney on friday. There will be some players I was pretty easily beaten by a few months ago, so I'm curious as to how I've improved since then. Gotten way better at wavedashing/landing and pretty much 100% increase in l-cancels so I'm aiming to do some upsets

If you don't travel a lot or haven't played at some nationals it's really hard to gauge. It also gets even harder above the top 100 player range because you start not being able to recognize every name that may be ranked above you. For example Laudandus traded games pretty evenly with my brother and placed 1 spot higher than him at a national. Another player from my state placed the same as Laudandus. Both that player and my brother beat me a good 70% of the time we play at the moment. Assuming all 3 of those players are in the same range, I would be a tier or maybe two, accounting for familiarity with the latter 2, below them. If Laudandus is A-, then I'd be B-B+ . As you can see it's not too concrete when accounting for matchup strengths, familiarity, and other things. That's why you have to travel to tournaments to find out how good you really are though, which is one of the things I love about smash. On the flipside though, sometimes I wish we could play lagless online too (like Iccup) because there's not always time to travel.
